ANGLO-SAXON BANKING PRACTICES: LOOK MA, NO SAVINGS!

“It’s not surprising that the Anglo Saxons have developed the credit/debt system of banking. They’ve always been this way. In history, the Anglo Saxons are the chief plunderers of the world.

“And they don’t see consequences. Germans, French, Japanese, and Chinese – they all have high savings rates. The British, Americans, Canadians, and New Zealand – they all are close to zero or below.

“We [we, being the French and Germans, as he is a little of both] grow up knowing we are poor. Above the door of the house in which I grew up, there was a sign that read ‘ora et labora’ [Latin expression for pray and work]. If we do not work, we will continue to be poor. And life will be very
difficult.

“This is also the ethos of the Puritans who came to the northern part of America. But where has that ethos gone today? The Anglos have not been concerned with tomorrow because they are not concerned with building long-term wealth. They want quick riches. Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead!

“Rabid consumer spending on credit is no different. Only now, they are plundering the future. And their influence on the economies of the world is farther reaching than ever before. They may not be concerned with the consequences of their behavior today, but it will have a lasting impact on
the global economy.”

QUOTATION

“There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million can diagnose.”

– John Maynard Keynes

The federal government is borrowing $450 billion each year to finance the war on terror as well as an array of new or expanded social programs.

THE PAST AND THE FUTURE

[Paragraphs from Daily Reckoning]

The spectacular growth of the past two decades, it now turns out, was a mirage generated by the smoke and mirrors of rising debt and the willingness of the rest of the world to accept a flood of new dollars. Just how much the U.S. owes will shock you. But even more shocking is the fact that we’re still at it. Like a family that has maintained its lifestyle by maxing out aseries of credit cards, America is at the point where new debt goes to pay off the old rather than to create new wealth. Hence the past few years’ slow growth and steady loss of jobs.

So why say that nothing has changed? Because today’s problems are new only in terms of recent U.S. history. A quick scan of world history reveals them to be depressingly familiar. All great societies pass this way eventually, running up unsustainable debts and printing (or minting) currency in an increasingly desperate attempt to maintain the illusion of
prosperity. And all, eventually, ?nd themselves between the proverbial devil and deep blue sea: Either they simply collapse under the weight of their accumulated debt, as did the U.S. and Europe in the 1930s, or they keep running the printing presses until their currencies become worthless and their economies fall into chaos.

[…]

In the coming decade, as the dollar suffers one of the great meltdowns in monetary history, gold will reclaim its place at the center of the global financial system, and its value, relative to most of today’s national currencies, will soar. The result: Gold coins, gold-mining stocks, and gold-based digital currencies will be vastly better ways to preserve and/or grow wealth than dollar-denominated bonds, stocks, or bank accounts.

THERE ARE TWO SCHOOLS ON AMERICA’S ECONOMIC STATUS HEADING INTO FALL 06. THE FOXIM SAY HOUSING’S COOLING, NOT CRASHING. THE ECONOMY IS SOLID, WITH EMPLOYMENT OVER 94%. THINGS ARE GOOD AND GOING TO GET BETTER. THE DAILY RECKONING LIBERTARIANS SAY THE ABOVE – THAT HOUSING WILL PROBABLY CRASH, THE U.S. IS ESSENTIALLY BANKRUPT AND CONTINUING TO FOLLOW THE SAME EASY-CREDIT HOME-FRONT, EASY-WAR INTERNATIONAL FRONT THAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS. THEY URGE GOLD, AS THEY BELIEVE INFLATION IS INEVITABLE GIVEN FEDZOG DEBT LEVELS. I BELIEVE THE D.R. CROWD IS CLOSER TO THE TRUTH. I URGE VNNERS TO AVOID DEBT, BUY GOLD, DEVELOP SKILLS, HAVE CHILDREN, STAY HAPPY AND IN SHAPE, LINK WITH LIKE MINDS – PLAY FOR THE AGES. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 25 (OneWorld) – A chief prosecutor of Nazi war crimes at Nuremberg has said George W. Bush should be tried for war crimes along with Saddam Hussein. Benjamin Ferencz, who secured convictions for 22 Nazi officers for their work in orchestrating the death squads that killed more than 1 million people, told OneWorld both Bush and Saddam should be tried for starting “aggressive” wars–Saddam for his 1990 attack on Kuwait and Bush for his 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The plan for what were promptly dubbed ‘Fasbos’ – anti- social behaviour orders for foetuses – prompted outrage at Westminster last night. The al-Qaida terror camps are gone from Afghanistan, but the enigma of Osama bin Laden still hangs over these lawless borderlands where tens of thousands of US and Pakistani troops have spent nearly five years searching for him. The last time authorities said they were close to getting him was in 2004, and in hindsight those statements seem more hope than fact.

US prepares to escalate conflict with Iran
      Sun, 2006-09-03 02:41

By Peter Symonds – World Socialist Web Site

The Bush administration has reacted aggressively to Iran’s refusal to halt its nuclear activities, with threats of punitive sanctions and an escalating, open-ended confrontation. A UN Security Council resolution passed on July 31, under pressure from Washington, set August 31 as the deadline for Tehran to shut down its uranium enrichment facilities and comply with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolutions.

US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, branded Iran’s failure to stop enrichment as “a red flag” issue and demanded that the Security Council now impose sanctions. While some US officials have hinted that any measures against Iran would be graduated, Bolton indicated that “a very tough sanctions resolution” was also an option as a first step.

More ominously, Bolton again raised the prospect of military action against Iran. In an interview with CNN, he said: “We’re exercising a lot of diplomatic activity to try and resolve this peacefully.

That’s our objective but no President charged with defending the American people takes the military option off the table.”

In a speech at an American Legion convention on Thursday, President Bush sounded the same menacing refrain, warning: “It is time for Iran to make a choice…. We will continue to work closely with our allies to find a diplomatic solution—but there must be consequences for Iran’s defiance, and we must not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.”

The references to “diplomacy” are completely misleading. The Bush administration has refused to meet, let alone negotiate with, Tehran. The White House rejected out of hand Iran’s offer on August 22 to hold “serious negotiations” over a package of proposals made in June by the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany to end the nuclear standoff.

One of Iran’s key demands is for a security guarantee, which necessarily must come from the US. American officials have ruled that out and repeatedly heightened fears of an attack on Iran by declaring that “the military option is on the table”. Far from being willing to reach a negotiated solution, the Bush administration increased funding this year for Iranian opposition groups and other activities aimed at “regime change” in Iran.

Iran, which is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), insists that its nuclear programs are for peaceful purposes. Tehran branded the UN resolution as “illegal” for cutting across Iran’s rights under the NPT to research and develops all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, including uranium enrichment. Iran has a small cascade of 164 centrifuges operating at a pilot enrichment plant at Natanz.

Despite a lack of evidence, Bolton told the media yesterday there was no doubt Iran was seeking to build a nuclear bomb. “There’s simply no explanation for the range of Iranian behaviour which we’ve seen over the years other than that they’re pursuing a weapons capability,” he said. The US media has highlighted claims in an IAEA report sent to the UN on Thursday to have found new traces of highly enriched uranium at a waste storage facility.

While it cannot be ruled out that sections of the Iranian regime have ambitions to build nuclear weapons, over the past three years the IAEA has failed to find any conclusive evidence of covert weapons programs. IAEA inspectors have previously found miniscule traces of highly enriched uranium, but later confirmed that the source was contaminated equipment bought from Pakistan. The conclusions of the latest IAEA report, like previous ones, were stated in the negative: that the IAEA could not verify “the correctness and completeness of Iran’s declarations” that its programs were for peaceful purposes.

The chief purpose of Washington’s “diplomacy” is to bully its European and Asian rivals into backing its ultimatums and threats against Iran. The alleged Iranian nuclear weapons programs are simply the pretext for US actions against Tehran. What Washington is seeking to avoid above all is a negotiated settlement to the dispute that leads to a relaxation of diplomatic tensions and the economic opening up of Iran. Such a result would only benefit the EU powers, Russia, China and Japan—all of which have significant economic interests in Iran—to the detriment of the US—which has maintained sanctions on Iran for two decades. The only means for establishing US dominance in Iran is for an aggressive policy of “regime change” in Tehran.

      Inter-imperialist tensions

All the major powers backed the July 31 UN resolution to send an ultimatum to Tehran, but divisions have quickly reemerged following Iran’s defiance of Thursday’s deadline.

Russia, which only reluctantly voted for the resolution, has voiced its opposition to sanctions. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared yesterday: “We have to take into account the experience of the past and we cannot ally ourselves with ultimatums, which all lead to a dead end.” He called for further efforts to draw Iran “into dialogue, and not isolation and sanctions.” China, which also has a veto on the UN Security Council, is likely to follow suit.

Speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, declared “this is not the time or place” for sanctions. “For the EU, diplomacy remains the No. 1 way forward,” he insisted.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is due to meet Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani in the next few days for talks over Iran’s offer of “serious negotiations”. “This does not mean that Iran has indefinite time,” Solana said. “We hope that at the next meeting, or couple of meetings, we have enough knowledge [about Iran’s position] to see if formal negotiations can start.”

US ambassador Bolton indicated that Washington had agreed to wait until Solana concluded his talks before pushing for UN sanctions. A meeting of the UN Security Council permanent members—the US, France, Britain, China and Russia—along with Germany, has been scheduled in Berlin for September 7 to discuss the next steps.

But there are growing signs of US impatience with the diplomatic process. An editorial in yesterday’s Chicago Tribune, for instance, entitled “Europe blinks again” contemptuously dismissed Solana’s efforts. It declared: “After years of futile bargaining with the Iranians, after years of offering up ever sweeter incentives only to be rejected by the mullahs, after years, in short, of getting diplomatic sand kicked in their faces, they hear ‘no’ [from Tehran] and still think it means ‘maybe’”.

Similar frustrations were voiced in Murdoch’s London-based Times. “So what now? Iran has defied the UN order to stop its most controversial nuclear work. It looks as if there will be a fudge by the European Union, dragging the US along behind. At yesterday’s deadline, which was supposed to be the climax of this long-running stand-off, Europeans blinked first.” The commentary pointed to the US-Israeli debacle in Lebanon as a significant factor, explaining: “In the strained attempts to muster a UN force to keep the peace between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, few want to pick a new fight.”

The Bush administration, however, has previously indicated that it is prepared to put together a new “coalition of the willing” to impose sanctions on Iran, if its demands are blocked in the UN Security Council. An article in the Los Angeles Times last weekend revealed that the US Treasury was pressuring European and Japanese banks to restrict their business with Tehran. Treasury spokeswoman Molly Millerwise told the newspaper there had already been results, including the Union Bank of Switzerland’s cutting off of relationships with Iran.

At the same time, agitation for a military strike against Iran continues. An editorial in Murdoch’s Australian entitled “A nuclear Iran is not an option” declared that if the UN fails to impose sanctions, “a military strike against Iran’s nuclear program might be the West’s only option.” It concluded: “The process of international diplomacy must still be given more time. But the world cannot wait forever. Thwarting the mad Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions by any means necessary should be a project that unites the world.”

The editorial’s rhetoric reflects rather the madness of the Bush administration. Having created one disaster after another—in Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon—through its reckless militarism, Washington is considering plans for another military adventure against Iran that will inevitably have even more catastrophic
      consequences.

      KIKING FROM HOROWITZ

Jews Who Hate the Jewish State
      By Paul Bogdanor
      JewishPress.com | September 1, 2006

“If they [Jews] all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.” – Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Hizbullah commander

“I say this without fear: for those who believe in freedom and dignity, we are all Hizbullah now.” – Norman Finkelstein, Jewish anti-Zionist

That any human being could proclaim his support for a movement whose goal is to annihilate all the world’s Jews must be shocking to the normal observer. That a Jew could take this position seems all the more astounding.

Yet Norman Finkelstein, university professor and best-selling author, is by no means unique among Jews in his allegiances. His mentor, Noam Chomsky, has publicly embraced the murderous Sheikh Nasrallah. In fact, during the recent war, Chomsky was among several Jewish signatories to an open letter offering “solidarity and support” to the “resistance” in Lebanon and Palestine – meaning Hizbullah and Hamas. And these pledges of loyalty to genocidal fanatics have become quite common among Jews who distinguish themselves by their hatred for Israel.

How is it possible for any Jew to support those who seek the destruction of his fellow Jews? This is the question that intrigued Edward Alexander and myself as we compiled our book The Jewish Divide Over Israel.

Our contributors – including Cynthia Ozick, Alvin Rosenfeld, Menachem Kellner, Jacob Neusner and Efraim Karsh – were all too aware of the tragic history of Jewish anti-Semitism. We knew, for example, that Martin Luther’s program of terrorizing Jews originated with a Jewish convert, Johannes Pfefferkorn; and that the myth of the Jewish world-conspiracy, which culminated in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, was assiduously promoted by a Russian Jewish author, Jacob Brafmann. We suspected that as the Pfefferkorns and the Brafmanns departed the stage, the Finkelsteins and the Chomskys made their entrance.

      WAR FOR OIL…(PHFFFFFF)…LY JEWS!

      9-2-06

More Baloney About the Iraq War

We were angered recently when we saw yet another public figure refer to the current Iraq War as a war for oil.

Suuure. Anyone who has studied the Iraq War cannot help but come to the conclusion that it is being waged for Israel’s benefit, especially since George W. Bush is probably the most pro-Israel president in history.

Indeed, Saddam had already launched Scud missiles at Israel once, during the Gulf War, and God’s Pets trembled at the thought that he might do so again, but with even more powerful armaments. Oy.

Nonetheless, let us put a finer point on this matter of war-for-the-Jews: so many wars have been fought by Whites for Jews over the years that we are amazed that so few White people know about that fact [1]. Why don’t they know about it? Censorship, for one thing, and also things like, for example, the White obsession with negroes throwing balls around on TV, a.k.a. professional sports. Who cares about foreign wars when your favorite boolie-coon is on the jewtube showing off his ball-bouncing talents, or, when that nifty TV sitcom is on, starring some bimbo with fake knockers? With all those neat-o distractions, why think about combat in a far-off land?

Maybe someday, White people will realize that it isn’t normal for White soldiers to fight wars all over the world every 10 years for influential schnozzim in America and Israel. Furthermore, since Israel loves to brag about how tough the Israeli army is, why don’t they fight Iraq, or maybe Iran? [that’s a trick question, of course. According to the Jews’ own Talmud, gentiles were put on Earth to serve the Jews, just like cows serve a farmer. Jews expect White people to do whatever they want them to do].

On June 1, world powers made Iran an offer they said Tehran shouldn’t refuse: suspend uranium enrichment in “weeks, not months” or face economic sanctions.

      Getty Images
      PROGRESS Iran’s new heavy-water plant.

      Readers’ Opinions
      Forum: The Middle East
That was three months ago. Iran hasn’t suspended anything, despite the passage of an Aug. 31 United Nations Security Council deadline. The six countries that made the offer — the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China — are still debating what to do. And last week, the day after the deadline, European Union foreign ministers meeting in Finland called for more dialogue with Iran before any talk of sanctions. “For the E.U., diplomacy remains the No. 1 way forward,” the Finnish Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja, said.

All of this activity, or lack of it, raises the question: When is a deadline not a deadline?

      1. When a deal needs support from a bunch of different countries. Because the United States already has placed heavy sanctions on Iran since the hostage crisis in 1979, it doesn’t have the leverage left to inflict much more pain by itself. Washington needs the people who actually do business with Iran — primarily Russia and China — to get on board. And neither of those countries are in any hurry to do so.

      2. When everyone is afraid that sanctions will hurt them as much as they’ll hurt Iran. World powers are also dragging their feet because they know Iran could retaliate by cutting oil production, which could drive up the price of oil worldwide.

      3. When few people think the sanctions will work anyway. That’s the crux of the problem — the sanctions that the United States and its European allies are trying to get the Russians and Chinese to support are pretty low-pressure, limited to things like travel bans and restrictions against dual-use exports. If Iran’s ruling mullahs really believe that a nuclear program is their inalienable right, will they be cowed by a travel ban? To really hurt Tehran, diplomats would have to hit investment in Iran’s energy sector. But that could bring about retaliation, in the form of Tehran cutting oil production, which could lead to No. 2.

So the deadlines keep sliding by. Right now, Bush administration officials say they hope they can get the Security Council to vote for a first phase of sanctions in the next few weeks. Maybe by mid-September, when the General Assembly meets in New York. Or by the end of the General Assembly meetings in late September. O.K., definitely by October.

      Or else.
