Regarding Pluto debate, Joe Sobran complains about Copernicus-biased media and schools. Very anti-Christian of them, not to accept the Bible view that the sun revolves around the earth.

Sobran says Copernicus’ theory is just “a theory, not fact.” When is it safe to accept a theory as fact? When you have experimented with it, and used it, and it works. Astronomers’ view of the solar system is used in the calculations that send rockets to the moon. The Bible’s view of the solar system is not used, because it is made up.

He also complains about the effects on astrology. I’m not sure if he’s joking.

But here is where the issue of media bias comes in. Nearly all reporting of the issue is framed by a loaded term: the solar system. Notice that this phrase presupposes the Copernican theory, the idea that all the planets revolve around the Sun. This threatens to become the whole premise of the debate. Question this theory, and you’re effectively shut out of the controversy, disfranchised, “outside the mainstream.” So much for pluralism.

The Copernican theory is just that — a theory, not a fact. It has a strong appeal to those who are too lazy to do the complex calculations required by the older, commonsense Ptolemaic view. But for generations, the simplistic Copernican spin has been tirelessly inculcated in our public schools — to captive audiences of impressionable children — by secular humanists and other self-hating Earthlings. Parents have had little say in the matter.

As a result, both sides in the Pluto debate are accepting a dubious premise. Yet as the eminent mathematician Bertrand Russell long ago observed, there is no logical necessity to believe that the Earth revolves around the Sun rather than that the Sun revolves around the Earth. And as Sherlock Holmes asks pointedly, what practical difference does it make? In a free society, one should be able to remain aloof from the current debate without being dismissed as Plutophobic.

Majority of South Believes God Gave Israel to the Jews

A recent national poll of over 2,000 Americans found that the majority of white evangelical Protestants and those in the South support the belief that the state of Israel was given to the Jewish people by God.

Among the surveyed religious groups, white evangelical Protestants stand out with 69 percent supporting the belief that God gave Israel to the Jewish people, according to the survey released by The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life last week. Moreover, a full 59 percent subscribe to the belief that Israel is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

The views were also well accepted among black protestants with 60 percent believing Israel was given to the Jews by God and 56 percent believing Israel fulfills the prophecy of the second coming.

However, the percentage supporting these views dropped significantly among Catholics and white mainline Protestants, which both raked percentages in the low twenties for both views.

Two plead guilty to knowingly hiring illegal aliens

The owner of a Wichita company along with his general manager pleaded guilty Wednesday to helping to supply documents so illegal aliens could keep their jobs.
Bob Eisel, owner of Eisel Powder Coatings Inc., and Kenric “Butch” Steinert, general manager face fines and possible prison time for their plea to one count of making a false statement on an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form.

The company’s foreman, Troy Hook, pleaded not guilty and will face trial.

The three men and the company were named in a 28-count grand jury indictment claiming that they had been told by the Social Security Administration that some of their employees had Social Security numbers that belonged to other people.

They also were accused of helping those employees get new fake documents so that they could keep working for Eisel Powder Coatings, located at 3500 S. Hoover Rd.

U.S. District Judge Wesley Brown will sentence Eisel and Steinert Nov. 15. A plea agreement with federal prosecutors calls for a $25,000 fine for Eisel, a $10,000 fine for Steinert plus a $175,000 fine against the company.

Mexican police officer arrested on drug possession

A Mexican federal police officer was arrested yesterday on Interstate 40 in Williamson County after drug dogs found marijuana inside a passenger bus.

The bus was stopped for following another vehicle too closely, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office reported. The driver gave sheriff’s deputies permission to search the bus, and a drug-sniffing K-9 found 13 pounds of marijuana inside a piece of luggage.

Police say the luggage belonged to a passenger named Alfonso Barrutia Dela Torre, 31, from Tempindy, Mexico.

Agents from the Immigration and Customs Service/Homeland Security were summoned to the scene. ICE agents identified Torre as a Mexican police officer.

State lawmakers hope to pass a ‘shoot first’ bill

Worthington resident Allen Davis allegedly opened fire on a group of high school students near his yard last Tuesday, critically wounding one. Davis is currently in custody facing felonious assault charges. While the senseless tragedy has prompted an outpouring of emotion in the community, several Ohio lawmakers have taken a more dry-eyed approach.

Concluding that shooting someone in Ohio currently leads to too much legal liability, 22 House members and 15 state senators have co-sponsored legislation that would make it harder to prosecute people who use deadly force in what they claim to be self-defense.

House Bill 541 and its companion bill in the Senate would immunize from prosecution or civil penalty anyone who acts with a “reasonable fear” of “bodily harm.”

The bill, which is similar to a recently enacted Florida law, eliminates the duty to retreat, which means that you would have the legal option of killing even if you could simply walk away from a threat without further danger to yourself. The bill also establishes that anyone who enters a home or vehicle without legal permission can be presumed to intend bodily harm, and therefore can be legally killed by the occupant.

“It’s a public-safety kind of bill,” said state Rep. Stephen Buehrer, the primary sponsor of the legislation.

2. Jerrold Schwartz, some Boy Scout leader HOMO, now being sued

O’Reilly follows the usual media tack of pretending that QUEERS AND HOMOS are actually pedophiles. O’Reilly, like Nancy Grace over at CNN, is afraid of the power of BIG FAG.

A former Scoutmaster praised for his selfless devotion to Manhattan boys admitted Tuesday sexually abusing an Eagle Scout in his troop.

Jerrold Schwartz, 42, pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree sodomy for molesting the teenager in 1996. Judge Charles Solomon told Schwartz he would face up to eight years in prison when he is sentenced in August. Schwartz was originally charged with 36 counts of sodomy over a two-year period.

The victim, now a 19-year-old college student, claims he was raped by Schwartz in his office and apartment after weekly meetings for Troop 666, a group based in a church and synagogue on the Upper East Side. The abuse continued on camping trips to Colorado, New Mexico and the Florida Keys, and even occurred on the eve of Schwartz’s wedding in Disneyworld, the victim alleged.

The victim, the son of a doctor and lawyer who were deeply involved with the troop, is suing Schwartz, the Boy Scouts, the church and the synagogue for $150 million. According to his mother, the teenager’s normal adolescence was destroyed by the abuse.

In a letter to the judge, she said he engaged in self-mutilation, cocaine and marijuana abuse, and promiscuity and would spend hours in the bathtub trying to cleanse himself. He first told his parents about the molestation after he was kicked out of college and sent to a rehab center.

The teenager’s lawyer, Michael Dowd, said Schwartz’s plea ensures he will be found liable in the civil suit. Dowd also represents more than 40 other clients who say they were sexually abused as children.

The heart of the prosecution’s case was secretly recorded audio tapes in which the victim confronted Schwartz about the abuse.

“I took advantage of you sexually,” Schwartz admitted in the April 2001 meeting. “I’m eternally, eternally sorry.”

He blamed the abuse on “a sickness” and said, “I did things that were not becoming of an adult that you looked up to, not becoming of an adult period.”

Before the plea, Schwartz’s lawyer, Joseph Bondy — who became an Eagle Scout in Troup 666 under Schwartz’s leadership — said his client made the statements in fear of the victim’s volatility, but acknowleged the “horrible, horrible tape” would be compelling to jurors.

Schwartz was involved with Troop 666 since his own youth, becoming an Eagle Scout, then an assistant scoutmaster and finally the leader.

CHINA…AND US (FROM DAILY RECKONING)

An article in Le Monde made us wonder again about China’s strange present…and possibly even stranger future. The country is still run by communists, we remind readers. How can a nation run by people who do not believe in markets actually function? How can it be the fastest-growing
economy on Earth? How can a place where the proletariat supposedly runs the show turn out to be the very same place where capitalists are making the most money?

It just goes to show how futile and worthless most of our ideas really are. Whatever we think, the reality is infinitely more complicated, subtle, and unknowable. That is why we are so humble, here at The Daily Reckoning. As we get older, the more we think…the less we know for sure. If we live long enough, we will surely know nothing at all. Still, that will put us ahead of most people, who know less than nothing. Thinking they know something, they misperceive, misapprehend, and mistake everything. Then, with confidence equal to their own ignorance, they run for public office. The next thing you know, they are passing laws and
starting wars…and that is how we get the world we live in.

The Le Monde article tells us that Chinese strategy “doesn’t put things in terms of means and ends, based on an advance plan, but more in terms of conditions and consequences.” The Chinese are forever trying to turn a situation, whatever it is, to their advantage. Their ideal is to profit in any way possible, without ever really having to fight. Or, as Sun Tzu explained, to turn things around so that by the time you face your enemy, he is already beaten.

A shiver went down our spine. What better strategy could the Chinese follow, we wondered, than what they now pursue? What better game could they play than to treat the U.S. like a pig being fattened for slaughter?

The hog slaughter works thus: the Chinese work around the clock making things for American consumers, who are too broke to pay for them. So much the better – the wily Chinese take bonds, cash, and IOUs. They unload their junk while taking and holding our capital. They may be atheists, but they’ve figured out at least one part of the Bible: “borrower who is slave to the lender.” They may be communists, but they know that it is capital that rules the modern world, not political theory and socialist claptrap.

As time goes by, American consumers and their government come to rely on suckling goods and money from the Chinese. Without it, the U.S. economy would collapse, and the feds would have to scrap for dough to arm its forces. American bureaucrats still talk tough; they still tell the Chinese what they should do with their currency; they still send U.S. fleets to maneuver off the Chinese coast. The bureaucrats still give the Chinese leaders the cold shoulder when they visit. But little by little, it is the Chinese who have gained the upper hand. They have the money, the manpower, the manufacturing base, the technology. We have Britney Spears…and Medicare.

GALLOWAY EQUATES ISRAEL AND THE LATE SOUTH AFRICA

THE DEFEAT OF THE REGIONAL SUPERPOWER COULD YET OPEN THE WAY TO A WIDER SETTLEMENT OF THE ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT

08/31/06 “The Guardian” — As the smoke clears from the battlefield of the 34-day war in Lebanon, it would be a mistake to count the cost only in fallen masonry and fresh graves. All is changed, changed utterly, by the defeat that the whole of Israel is now debating, from the cabinet through the lively press to the embittered reservists at the falafel stall. Practically the only person in the world who claims Israel won the war is George Bush – and we all know his definition of the words “mission accomplished”.

Reports that the Hizbullah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, expressed regret this week at having underestimated Israel’s reponse to the capture of two of its soldiers were misleading. In fact, Nasrallah thanked God that the attack came when the resistance movement was prepared, as he was convinced Israel would have otherwise invaded later in the year at a time of its choosing.

If the fierce thicket of the Iraqi resistance stopped the Bush war spreading to Syria then the extraordinary Hizbullah victory has surely made the world think again about an attack on Iran. But the main – and maybe the most welcome – shift in the 40-year-old paradigm of the Israeli-Arab conflict is the puncturing of the belief in a permanent and unchallengeable Israeli military superiority over its neighbours and the hubris this has induced in Israeli leaders – from the sleek Shimon Peres through the roughhouse of Binyamin Netanyahu to the stumbling Mr Magoo premiership of Ehud Olmert.

THE MYTH OF INVINCIBILITY IS A SOUFFLE THAT CANNOT RISE TWICE.

Over the past week I have picked my way through the rubble of Dahia in downtown Beirut, now resembling London’s East End at the height of the blitz, and across the south of Lebanon in towns such as Bint Jbeil whose centres look as if they have been hit by an earthquake. Here the litter of banned weapons lies like a legal time bomb – evidence of war crimes alleged by the UN and Amnesty International that in a genuine system of international justice would put Israel in the dock at The Hague. This, together with the beating Israel has received in international public opinion, is the collateral damage suffered alongside military humiliation.

Israel announced the capture of Bint Jbeil several times, but in truth it never held the town – or anywhere else for that matter – throughout the war. Despite raining down thousands of tons of high explosive on homes, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, ambulances, UN posts, oil storage depots, electricity plants and virtually every petrol station south of Beirut (the bombers seemed to have a crazed thirst for petrol stations, while telling the world that they were kindly inviting the residents of south Lebanon to get into their cars and leave their homes for a little while), the Israelis were given a severe mauling by Hizbullah fighters when it came to boots on the ground.

Paradoxically, some believe that all this has blown open a window in which it is possible to glimpse the possibility of a comprehensive settlement of the near-century-old conflicts which lie behind the recent war. Now that the status quo ante has been swept away, we may even see an FW de Klerk moment emerge in Israel (and among its indispensable international backers).

APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA

The leader of the white tribes of apartheid South Africa waited until the critical mass of opposition threatened to overwhelm the position of the previously invincible minority, and sold the transfer of power on the basis that a settlement later, under more severe duress, would be less favourable. Israel’s trajectory is now heading towards such a moment.

A comprehensive settlement now would of course look much like it has for decades: Israeli withdrawal from land occupied in 1967; respect for the legal rights of Palestinian refugees to return; the emergence of a real Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital – a contiguous state with an Arab border, with no Zionist settlements and military roads, and with internationally guaranteed Palestinian control over its land, air, sea and water. In exchange there would be Arab recognition, normalisation and, in time, acceptance of Israel into the Middle East as something other than a settler garrison of the imperial west.

Just as you can’t be a little bit pregnant, a settlement can’t be a little bit comprehensive. Attempts – like the one more than a decade ago in Oslo – to obfuscate, shave and sculpt such a package to the point of unrecognisability will founder on the new reality.

THE ARAB WORLD IS WAKING UP TO ITS POTENTIAL POWER.

It has seen the Iraqis confound Anglo-American efforts to recolonise their country, the unbreakability, whatever the cost, of the Palestinian resistance, and now the success of Hizbullah. If there is no settlement there can only be war, war and more war, until one day it is Tel Aviv which is on fire and the Israeli leaders’ intransigence brings the whole state down on their heads.

Nor is it only Israel that will pay the price for continued conflict: the enduring injustice of Palestinian dispossession has already poisoned western-Muslim relations and helped spill violence and hatred on to our own streets.

THERE IS STILL TIME TO CHOOSE PEACE.

BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, WITH THE VICTORY OF HIZBULLAH, A TERRIBLE BEAUTY IS BORN.

Another lie on Iraq

WHEN President Bush declared last week that “nobody has ever suggested in this administration that Saddam Hussein ordered” the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a large segment of the American public must have been very surprised.

They would be the die-hard supporters of the war in Iraq, the one-quarter to one-third of Americans who, according to opinion polls, believe to this day that Saddam was somehow involved in 9/11.

No one likes to think that their President is lying, but for Mr. Bush to casually reverse five years of rhetoric is like Bill Clinton claiming “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.”

No, there is no DNA evidence that we know of to indict Mr. Bush for perjury. But the public record includes repeated statements by the President, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and other administration officials that linked responsibility for the 9/11 attacks to Iraq, both directly and indirectly.

The alleged connection was the administration’s strongest selling point for the war, slaking the American people’s thirst for revenge for the 2001 attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C.

As Mr. Bush put it on Oct. 7, 2002, “We know that Iraq and the al-Qaeda terrorist network share a common enemy – the United States of America. We know that Iraq and al-Qaeda have had high-level contacts that go back a decade. … We’ve learned that Iraq has trained al-Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases.”

Here he is again, in his 2003 State of the Union address: “And this Congress and the American people must recognize another threat. Evidence from intelligence sources, secret communications, and statements by people now in custody reveal that Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of al-Qaeda.”

And in his “Mission Accomplished” photo op, May 1, 2003: “In the war on terror, Iraq is now the central front.”

Mr. Cheney was even more specific: In 2003, the vice president claimed that the government was learning “more and more” about links, before 9/11, between Iraq and al-Qaeda. This came even after the CIA had debunked any such claims. In 2004, the veep said flatly that Saddam “had long-established ties with al-Qaeda.”

Now, you can argue all day about whether faulty U.S. intelligence misled Mr. Bush, or about what the meaning of “suggested” is, but this much is clear: The administration relentlessly blurred what was a clear distinction between the militantly secular regime of Saddam and Islamic extremists like the 9/11 hijackers so as to create a laser-beam connection in the public mind that they were one and the same.

So for Mr. Bush to now claim that “nobody has ever suggested” that the Sept. 11 attacks were ordered by Iraq, as he did last week, is yet another lie in the chain of mendacity that shackles the Bush presidency.

Israeli diplomat arrested on suspicion of pedophilia

Following undercover investigation, Israeli who works for Consulate in Atlanta arrested and charged with computer offences and exploitation of children

WASHINGTON– An Israeli diplomat, Yosef Sagiv, was arrested Friday in the American city of Atlanta on suspicion of computer related offences linked to pornography and the sexual exploitation of children.

Captain Steve Morris, of the Columbia District Police in Georgia, told Ynet that the arrestee was a worker in the Israeli Consulate. He was arrested upon leaving his home and transferred into custody at a distance from Atlanta.

Daniel Craig, the District Attorney of Augusta, in the state of Georgia, announced that Sagiv used the internet and email in order to persuade a child to carry out illegal acts such as sodomy and severe sexual abuse.

The investigation has been going on for a considerable time by the Sherriff’s Department of the Columbia district in Georgia, as well as other government agencies such as the FBI. With that, the suspect was arrested only on Thursday after an indictment was approved. According to the decree, a search of the suspect’s home was also carried out.

The Foreign Ministry said in response that they were aware of the episode and were looking into details. It was also said that the suspect holds a diplomatic license but is not an employee of the Foreign Ministry.

This is not the first time that the Foreign Ministry has had to deal with embarrassing episodes: Three years ago the Israeli Consul in Sao Paolo, Aryeh Sher, was arrested due to suspicions that his computer held pornographic material.

Zachary Guiles knew he was being provocative when he showed up for school two years ago in a T-shirt that accused George Bush of being a war-mongering draft-dodger, a drunkard and a drug addict. What the 13-year-old may not have realised was that he would provoke a major free-speech battle that culminated this week in a court victory.

An appeals court in New York found that Zachary’s constitutional rights were violated when officials at his Vermont school made him stick duct tape over parts of the T-shirt. The shirt also said the president was undertaking a “world domination tour” and showed a picture of his head superimposed on a chicken’s body, along with cocaine, a razor blade and a martini glass. Zachary was suspended for a day, but continued to wear the T-shirt to school, complete with duct tape.

Lawyers for Williamstown middle high school argued the images contravened the school’s ban on clothes promoting drink and drugs, but the court rejected the idea on the grounds that the T-shirt expressed “an anti-drug view”. Mr Bush has spoken of his battles with alcohol earlier in his life.
The T-shirt “uses harsh rhetoric and imagery to express disagreement with the president’s policies and to impugn his character”, the court ruled, but the images “are not plainly offensive as a matter of law”.

“The standard that the court set was that a kid has free-speech rights as long as the expression of those rights doesn’t upset the normal workings of a school,” said Allen Gilbert, of the American Civil Liberties Union, which brought the case.

Zachary said: “I think this is a very good sign that even with the current administration … there can still be a justice that allows free speech.”

Once upon a time, the White West was great and free. In fact, the West was the greatest region mankind ever built. For example, the ancient Romans were using the wheel, and concrete, when the negroes were eating grubs and living in grass huts. [And the negro language – it wasn’t impressive: one grunt for “yes” and two grunts for “no.” In Detroit, many negroes still talk like that, e.g., three grunts means “uh-oh, here come de cops”].

But the West today? Today you either toe the p.c. line, or “officials” punish you in various ways [1]:
