Slovjanski, I believe it is spelled, has long tried bringing some regarding Russian white nationalism to the table, and has been consistently mocked and dismissed as a defeatist, Jew, etc.; all the usual canards to ignore what an actually thoughtful person is saying and go on chirping happy nonsense to each other. The hobbies of these Russian skinheads is nothing out of the ordinary in Russian society. This is what Russians, who are not selling drugs or their bodies, do with their time. These guys just happen to draw swastikas at railroad-xings (note the age and attire of these uh, revolutionaries: http://www.nso-korpus.info/images/actions/070610rz/01.jpg) and listen to knock-off RAC bands. The Russian state is not anti-Jew. All claims of “links to the Duma” – and I think I could link myself to it, at this point, given a few degrees of separation – must be taken with a very large block of salt, like the kind given to horsees to lick.

Russia will not save us. These skinheads, however many dozens of Aks and commando knives they can boast, are not abnormal in the context of modern Russian society, and are most certainly not any kind of factor in the direction of the Russian state.

When they start dragging Jews out of their offices and back to the woods for summary execution, I’ll eat my words. Until then, people are just foisting their hopes upon Russian white nationalism. It does not occur to them that the larger number of “white nationalists” – which must be taken very loosely – and after all it is still not so very large, depends on a few factors which have nothing at all to do with the inherent attraction of “white nationalism” or the readiness of Russians to accept/act on it. The Russian population is estimated at 142,000,000 (2006); the “skinhead” – NOT “white nationalist” – population is, according to one oft-repeated number, thought to be in the area of 10,000. That is less than 1%, and probably an exaggeration. Our population 300,000,000, and just to take a random figure, there are 52,000 US Stormfront memberships (considering that many, if not most VNN readers, and readers of other WN-related websites, have or have had Stormfroth memberships). These are mere numbers; the people in question are vastly different. A greater number of Russians are actually in the woods, drinking and shooting and heiling the night away; while we are online, talking more or less intelligently. Those Stormfrothers, how many are moles? Etc. Plenty of variables which are routinely glided over just because numbers exist and it’s “cool” seeing some buff tattooed skinheads “stomping” a Caucasian immigrant.

In reality, none of this matters. White Nationalists think that because the Russian state has slightly greater control over industries that this is a sign that Putin is the messiah; in fact it means only that Russia is relatively “backward”, thus preserving more folkish power in government, but does not mean there is no extra-folkish involvement, and where the Jews are concerned, any involvement is akin to takeover and at any rate poisoning. Jews control whole provinces of Russia (Kamchatka, for example), have a large stake in Russian industries, a major – though nowhere near dominant – presence in the moral life of the major cities, etc. One must also make reference to the trend of Jewish population movement in recent history, which has been, with the exception of Israel, almost exclusively East to West with America as terminus: it is, then, no surprise that we are more greatly determined by Jews than Russians, but it does NOT MEAN IN THE LEAST that the Russian state has nothing to do with Jews, or is even discreetly suspicious as some like to suggest, and indeed one can more easily demonstrate Jewish “links to the Duma” than, say, some neo-nazi guru playing out in the woods surrounding Moscow. What are the “links”, usually? Someone knows someone whose uncle, a general, is now a Duma functionary; he has some military decorations, been around since Brezhnev’s time, etc. He is “sympathetic” to “the cause”, or whatever language is employed. This is not politics. Moreover, given the tenuousness of it all in their local scene, what possible importance can it have for us? Absolutely none!

Furthermore – and this is most important, I believe – what is the quality of life of these Russians? I’ve never been to Russia, and maybe someone who has can help me out, but I would, tentatively, not equate the living standards, natural and cultural surroundings of Russians with that of, say, Germans and Scandinavians. What are the moral qualities of these young Russians? Probably not as high as the average serious American white nationalist, who is often, if nothing else, a morally decent creature. European societies are no model for us, neither the demographic dross they excrete. America is all about space, cleanliness, biblical morality. European cities are cramped, cold, gray, over-priced and depressing. Consider Russian “white nationalism” from that perspective, from the ground, so to speak. DON’T think of it as though it were a few states over from you, among people like you, speaking the same language and living in the same kind of housing under the same same sunny blue “skah” and Rockwellian waves of grain.

Russia is not America. America is not “Weimar Germany”, which no WN can even pronounce correctly. America is not salvageable, and if it were, it would have nothing to do with what some sleazy Russians are doing thousands of miles away. There are no “lessons” because cultural conditions do not permit “lessons” or imitation. So no one cop out by saying we can “take lessons” from Russian skinheads. If you want to find this Swami Hitlerov outside Moscow and be his disciple, complete with shaved head – though we all know what you really want is one of those cute little “byrds” the Russians do so love showing off – so be it, but don’t claim this has anything to do with the American political or white nationalist scene.

If this topic is raised on the next FTL, I might call in about it, if I can get my shit to work.

One more thing: I also object to calling this “resistance”. Hamas is resistance; Chavez is resistance; Lukashenko is resistance. This, on the other hand, is an underground scene which, by being slightly less underground than it is elsewhere, but no less ridiculous and ineffectual, fools people into thinking it’s a major, growing, or revolutionary force in Russian society. In fact it shows no sign of revolutionary ferment. If it were truly revolutionary, it wouldn’t be getting so much coverage. No Brits went globetrekking into any al Qaida training camp and glibly christened their movement a “major threat”. This “nazi” guru here, he mystifies us with the usual shady “links to the Duma”, but does not say he wishes to overthrow the Duma or Russian state as such. They’re very public, so one could reasonably expect a statement of purpose: instead we have a smoothly-designed website, recycled “WN” clichés about negroes and immigrants, and the inevitable Hitler code of Europeans (“18”) wedded to yet another vaguely-organizational-sounding catchword (“format”). But hey, I can’t read Russian, so maybe they’re saying all kinds of wild molotovian shit on there. It’s hosted in the US though; that should tell you something. One must ask what such people propose, in all seriousness: overthrowing the entire legal-political apparatus because their websites are outlawed? and what comes then, mass-heilings and Kolovrat over FM? It’s all just scenesterism writ large by gullibility. Every month there’s something else that proves tomorrow belongs to us: the latest installment of Russian skinz AtTaCk!, this or that peripheral government or media functionary letting slip an unflattering word about Israel, a weepy crusading soccer mom or new YouTube exposé on dancing Israelis, East European birthrates, Aryan Day in Tajikistan, Chain moves to Estonia to find paradise enow (but so-and-so’s been to Transnistria it’s soooo aryan), or my all-time favorite, Bill White’s ecstatic “DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN GEORGE LINCOLN ROCKWELL AND SAVITRI DEVI”. We’re always “turning a corner”, as Tyler says. WAT PARR!
