Please remember the large majority of Vets did NOT feel that way, and the regime/media never gave them air time. Pearl Harbor vets that were not 18 but older at the time hated FDR and I heard Pearl Harbor Vets in the 70’s say he murdered their brothers.

May of 1946 Hoover met with General Douglas MacArthur. Based on the ones I’ve met in my life, I don’t think all WWII vets are arrogant braggards. Some are and others are not though I do agree the MSM constantly reminding them that theirs was the “good war” hasn’t exactly encouraged much reflection even among the more thoughtful veterans. (This latter group does exist, I’ve known a few, you just won’t find this type on parade, doing interviews for the Hitler Channel, or lording it over the rest of us while in their cups at the gun show, or at the Legion and VFW hall.)

I think Brokaw’s book was a big disservice to the country, the generation that fought the war, and the study of history in general and WWII history in particular. It consecrated and mythologized human conflict that should have been left to historians using emperical evidence to document the war, derive its beginings, motivations, and ultimate effects, and approach a truly nuanced debate about it warts and all, atrocities and all, dark chapters and all – for all sides involved in it, NOT just Germany, Italy, and Japan.

Of course, the Frankfurt School Left in the West has defined WWII as the pre-eminent war against their enemies – the “fascists” – the war in the aftermath of which, they were able to begin the subversion of the West. That being the case then, they naturally deem WWII as worthy of being the new national myth of the West and for the US and UK in specifically.

Pre-1945, it seems to me that the Founding Father stories had been the dominant myth. Of course, these somehow didn’t fit the “progressive” script, so we went from lionizing true greats like Jefferson, Paine, Washington, and Adams, to excoriating Jefferson and co. because they owned slaves and instead began to rhapsodize over those who fought in a war that, in Europe at least, was essentially fratricidal and possibly in both theaters, was possibly discretionary as well.

Prior to Pearl Harbor, the majority of people (as high as 90%) were opposed to any war. All through the 1930s, they heard a steady drumbeat of total lies to the effect that Hitler planned to conquer the world, including the United States. Later there was propaganda that “German masterminds” wanted to send American women – our wives and daughters!! – to “breeding camps.”

Still, most didn’t want war. However, when FDR’s government provoked the Pearl Harbor attack and stood down to let it happen, the propagandists went into full swing and won. The people were told that they had just been sucker-punched for no reason. Even then, they had to be drafted to fight. To be sure, every knucklehead competed to show how manly he was by hollering that he was volunteering – he wasn’t waiting for the inevitable notice from the draft board, he was signing up today to go kill “those bastards.” Somehow the bastards had swelled to include not only Japs but Germans. Of course, he would be drafted anyway, so it was false bravado.

The people were simply dragooned into war. Lied to for a decade…victims of a more or less false flag operation…then drafted. Remember also the Depression was still going in 1941 and lots of kids jumped at the chance to “do something” and get three squares.

The worst part of that generation is the continued bragging, the swagger, the overdoings of a guilty conscience. They were tools and somewhere deep down they knew it. Better to believe oneself a hero – a conqueror of evil Nazis – a good soldier following orders – a savior of America, etc., instead of what you were and are: a helpless dupe pressed into an evil gang that fought for the jews and helped to ruin the West.

I hear you there. I’ve had similar experiences. I was at an old RAF Bomber field near York while on vacation in the UK a couple years back. We were in the museum portion and I was looking at the .303 MGs that they had on display that the British used to have as secondary armament on their Lancasters and Wellington bombers. Anyhow, they had alot of WWII ex-bomber crewmen there volunteering at the museum. One sidled up to me and started to tell me about his time as a tail gunner on a Lancaster. I listened politely, asked a few questions about the guns, what was the longest mission in terms of flying time he’d ever been on, etc. I’m a historian by training so I didn’t mind hearing technical detail straight from the horse’s mouth as it were. Despite all that, I didn’t ‘thank him for his service’ or praise him for helping burn and dehouse a bunch of ‘Nazis’ either. Fortunately, unlike alot of US vets, this old duffer didn’t seem to mind and when we finished talking, he wished me a pleasant rest of my trip. He was a bit more gracious than alot of our vets. I suppose with so many American vets it’s the typical American (Amerikwan?) approach to life, i.e. “I did something Hollywood and the MSM approve of, ergo, I’m a star and you lesser mortals should give me the deference I deserve.” I don’t think that mentality is quite as advanced in Britain yet or Europe in general for that matter.

I have a question for people.

I grew up watching WWII flicks on the idiot box,and in some cases,even WWI flicks,since back when I was a kid,”The Blue Max” got shown as a movie of the week once a year or so.

And no matter what I was told to think,I could never,ever see them evil Germans in those movies as enemies. Opponents,maybe,but never as an enemy the way I think of an enemy.

Hogan’s Heroes aired just 20 years after WWII ended and it was produced, directed and even performed by Jews. Just 20 years after the imaginary Holohoax and yet there was never any hint made of “gas ovens” or “lampshades” on that show. In fact, there was hardly any mention anywhere of a Holohoax until the late 1970s. “History’s Greatest Crime” and even the whiny Jews waited over 30 years before they began bitching and moaning about it? C’mon.

Not all Germans were portrayed as buffoons on Hogan’s Heroes. The Gestapo Major Hockstetter was a cool character and so was General Burkhalter. One buffoonish character who wasn’t German was the RAF officer Colonel Crittendon. I actually thought it was a pretty good show.

I wasn’t really even thinking about “Hogan’s Heroes” when I wrote that post of mine,since even though I was in grade school,I recognized it as a Hollywood comedy that wasn’t to be taken seriously,but the observations of others remain valid.

And the other two TV shows that I sort of remember are “Combat” and “12 O’Clock High”,although enough time has gone by that I can no longer remember any specific episodes. These are the series that I can recall-there might have been others. And then we got fed a pretty steady diet of film releases edited for television as well-like I mentioned,on a pretty steady schedule. Every year one always got a chance to see “The Battle of the Bulge”,”The Great Escape”.”The Blue Max”(which I already mentioned),and others that I no longer recall. And since I quit watching television back in the mid 1980’s,I’m sure that there are a number of productions of which I’m not aware. And doubtless just as trashy and inaccurate as the bulk of Hollywood product.

But they never got me to hate my not-too-terribly-distant cousins. In fact,I always kind of quietly admired those celluloid squareheads. It’s nice to know that my sentiments are shared.

The greatest generation was not bad. It consisted of many decent and kind people that were suddenly thrust into war. They did what they were required to do. The problem was that they let the ball drop after building America to a level of greatness never know before. They let the ball drop and allowed evil elites to set the agenda for them and their families. That is a sin and a shame. That’s what ignoring politics and leaving things to other people will get you, while your’e having one too many Hawiian Barbecues.
