Here’s controlled opposition, tolerated dissent:
“The trouble is that these jobs require temperamental attributes that are stereotypically feminine – things like patience, a pleasant demeanour, deference to the customer and the ability to empathize and connect.”
Ironically, this article – written by a female – lacks empathy with the male experience. Perhaps, if the author was empathetic with men, she would see that society still binds and judges masculinity to its traditional role far more than women.
Identify feminist hypocrisy but don’t question the dogma of “interchangeable gender roles” and don’t question how traditional roles must be destroyed.

Society does not bind men to traditional gender roles. It continues to expect chivalry and maintenance for children – but only in a very selective, perverse manner.
Saying the interchangeable gender roles agenda has not gone far enough is a PC way of protesting the current anti-male order.
But it’s not really opposition at all.

Many men who were contruction workers are becoming nurses because our crappy economy leaves less choices to make a living in.

There remains a nursing shortage, so even now, when the economy is tanking it remains impossible to fire even the most incompetent nurses. The fear of a gender bias/harassment suit also breeds fear of doing anything to bring discipline to the workforce in health care. For guys who are out of work it really is not so bad. There are many types of nursing outside of typical hospital floor nursing which are better suited to the male temperament: nurse anesthetist, operative nursing, radiological nursing, and so on. It is pretty regular hours and if you don’t mind female busibodiness–petty gossiping and backstabbing–it is not so bad.

If there is a nursing shortage, you can be damn sure it will be filled using non-White, dirt-cheap nurses from India or Bangladesh. And considering how well nuses get paid, is it too much to ask that they wear those white nurse uniforms with the white cap and black cape again? That looked so professional. You go to a hospital these days and you can’t tell the janitor from the brain surgeon. Another example of “equality gone wild”.
