  • One Response to “Open Letter to UW Campus/Note from the USHMM”

My oh my. See how they run.

The great worry here is that unsanctioned, atypical thinking has taken root. Once implanted, it can never be totally eradicated. Such an intrusion into an existing, carefully- crafted construct of historical understanding, of the disruption of a psychology designed to function instinctively separate from any intellectual and rational foundations, and the lack of a completely monolithic mass response are all very threatening to state – mandated beliefs. Once seeded, a field can never be fully cleared of the unwanted vegetation. It may be crowded out and remain dormant for periods of time, but eventually it sprouts anew.

Congratulations to Smith for his fine work. His job is done. He cannot do much more other than perhaps to liaison with a few brave and honest students and academics. If he has volunteers in the area, preferably those not at risk through formal relations with the Universtiy, a pamphleting campaign might be an effective follow-up. I would like to know what increase in his web traffic was generated from all this turmoil.

Let’s make no mistake about it. Much of the student population took note of this. And what they will remember is not so much the add, but of the hysterical over-reach of the ‘system’.
