As well as displaying great technical skill, Fragonard by his choice of subject matter is fond of femininity, true femininity, and Nature’s fecundity. Subjects European males are now forbidden to even think about.
After climbing out of the Dark Ages around 1100 Western art began going downhill again just before the start of WWI. In my opinion Western art reached its zenith from c. 1600-1850. By 1850 the Jews had come out of their medieval ghettos and infiltrated mainstream European society, like a plague. That was the beginning of the end for high Aryan culture.

This was all well and good for that time period, men wearing make-up and wigs, frills, all that Barry Lyndon stuff.
Times have changed. The message is the same, the envelope must be different.

Well said, McQueen. I love that Stanley Kubrick film Barry Lyndon. Beautiful cinematography.

Absolutely stunning piece of 18th century artistry. The only way it could look any better is next to Rothko’s billion dollar jagged boxes.
