The trial of an author charged with denying the Holocaust resumed in a German court yesterday, coming at an awkward time for Europeans citing freedom of speech to defend the publication of cartoons that have enraged the Muslim world. Ernst Zuendel, 66, in jail since he was deported by Canada last year, faces charges of inciting racial hatred and denying that the Nazis killed 6 million Jews. Saying the Holocaust didn't happen is a crime in Germany, Austria, France and several other European countries. Mr. Zuendel's work includes a book called "Did 6 [Six] Million Really Die?" Another Holocaust denier, British historian David Irving, faces trial in an Austrian court beginning Feb. 20. He was arrested during a trip to Austria in November and is in jail in Vienna. The cases could provoke accusations of double standards by Muslims offended by cartoons of the prophet Muhammad first published last year in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and reprinted in several papers across Europe in defense of free speech.

DRESDEN - A Real Holocaust
By GEORGE T. PARKER
Sixty-one years ago, on the evening of February 13, 1945, an orgy
of genocide and barbarism began against a defenseless German city,
one of the greatest cultural centers of Northern Europe. Within
less than 14 hours, not only was it reduced to flaming ruins, but
an estimated one-third of its inhabitants -- possibly as many as half
a million -- had perished in what was the worst massacre of all time.
As Jewish propaganda again reaches a crescendo in celebrating
the Soviet "liberation" of the famous Auschwitz internment center,
it is fitting that we consider what an actual holocaust is -- one which
is not a Hollywood trademark, but rather one in which millions died in
the most horrific and excruciating manner: not only in the genocidal
rampages of America's Communist ally in Eastern Europe, but also
in the systematic, targeted mass murder of German civilians in
deliberately created Anglo-American fire storms.
In such places as Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Kassel, Würzburg,
Darmstadt and Pforzheim, among many others -- but especially in
DRESDEN, victims were roasted alive in an orgy of Allied sadism
and fiendishness without equal, which now stands as a symbol of
genocide and evil for all time. The following account, taken from the
Feb. 1985 issue of the NS Bulletin, tells us what a REAL holocaust
is like.
Toward the end of World War II, as Allied planes rained death
and destruction over Germany, the old Saxon city of Dresden lay
like an island of tranquility amid desolation. Famous as a cultural
center and possessing no military value, Dresden had been spared
the terror that descended from the skies over the rest of the country.
In fact, little had been done to provide the ancient city of artists
and craftsmen with anti-aircraft defenses. One squadron of planes
had been stationed in Dresden for awhile, but the Luftwaffe decided
to move the aircraft to another area where they would be of use.
A gentlemen's agreement seemed to prevail, designating Dresden
an "open city."
On Shrove Tuesday, February 13, 1945, a flood of refugees fleeing
the Red Army 60 miles away had swollen the city's population to well
over a million. Each new refugee brought fearful accounts of Soviet
atrocities. Little did those refugees retreating from the Red terror
imagine that they were about to die in a horror worse than anything
Stalin could devise.
Normally, a carnival atmosphere prevailed in Dresden on Shrove
Tuesday. In 1945, however, the outlook was rather dismal.
Houses everywhere overflowed with refugees, and thousands
were forced to camp out in the streets shivering in the bitter cold.
However, the people felt relatively safe; and although the mood
was grim, the circus played to a full house that night as thousands
came to forget for a moment the horrors of war. Bands of little
girls paraded about in carnival dress in an effort to bolster waning
spirits. Half-sad smiles greeted the laughing girles, but spirits
were lifted.
No one realized that in less than 24 hours those same innocent
chilren would die screaming in Churchill's firestorms. But, of course,
no one could know that then. The Russians, to be sure, were
savages, but at least the Americans and British were "honorable."
So when those first alarms signaled the start of 14 hours of hell,
Dresden's people streamed dutifully into their shelters. But they
did so without much enthusiasm, believing the alarms to be false,
since their city had never been threatened from the air. Many
would never come out alive, for that "great democratic statesman," Winston Churchill, in collusion with that other "great democratic statesman," Franklin Delano Roosevelt, had decided that the
city of Dresden was to be obliterated by saturation bombing.
What where Churchill's motives? They appear to have been
political, rather than military. Historians unanimously agree
that Dresden had no military value. What industry it did have
produced only cigarettes and china.
But the Yalta Conference was coming up, in which the Soviets
and their Western allies would sit down like ghouls to carve up
the shattered corpse of Europe. Churchill wanted a trump card -- a devastating "thunderclap of Anglo-American annihilation" with which to "impress" Stalin.
That card, however, was never played at Yalta, because bad
weather delayed the originally scheduled raid. Yet Churchill
insisted that the raid be carried out to "disrupt and confuse"
the German civilian population behind the lines.
Dresden's citizens barely had time to reach their shelters.
The first bomb fell at 10:09 p.m. The attack lasted 24 minutes,
leaving the inner city a raging sea of fire. "Precision saturation
bombing" had created the desired firestorm.
A firestorm is caused when hundreds of smaller fires join in one
vast conflagration. Huge masses of air are sucked in to feed
the inferno, causing an artificial tornado. Those persons unlucky
enough to be caught in the rush of wind are hurled down entire
streets into the flames. Those who seek refuge underground
often suffocate as oxygen is pulled from the air to feed the
blaze, or they perish in a blast of white heat, heat intense
enough to melt human flesh.
WOMEN AND CHILDREN TARGETED
One eyewitness who survived told of seeing "young women
carrying babies running up and down the streets, their dresses
and hair on fire, screaming until they fell down, or the collapsing
buildings fell on top of them."
There was a three-hour pause between the first and second raids.
The lull had been calculated to lure civilians from their shelters
into the open again. To escape the flames, tens of thousands
of civilians had crowded into the Grosser Garten, a magnificent
park nearly one and a half miles square.
The second raid came at 1:22 a.m. with no warning. Twice as
many bombers returned with a massive load of incendiary
bombs. The second wave was designed to spread the raging
firestorm into the Grosser Garten.
It was a complete "success." Within a few minutes a sheet
of flame ripped across the grass, uprooting trees and littering
the branches of others with everything from bicycles to human
limbs. For days afterward, they remained bizarrely strewn
about as grim reminders of Allied sadism.
At the start of the second air assault, many were still huddled
in tunnels and cellars, waiting for the fires of the first attack
to die down. At 1:30 a.m. an ominous rumble reached the ears
of the commander of a Labor Service convoy sent into the city
on a rescue mission. He described it this way:
"The detonation shook the cellar walls. The sound of the
explosions mingled with a new, stranger sound which seemed
to come closer and closer, the sound of a thundering waterfall;
it was the sound of the mighty tornado howling in the inner city."
MELTING HUMAN FLESH
Others hiding below ground died. But they died painlessly,
they simply glowed bright orange and blue in the darkness.
As the heat intensified, they either disintegrated into cinders
or melted into a thick liquid, often three or four feet deep
in spots.
Shortly after 10:30 on the morning of February 14, the last
raid swept over the city. American bombers pounded the rubble
that had been Dresden for a steady 38 minutes. But this attack
was not nearly as heavy as the first two.
However, what distinuished this raid was the cold-blooded
ruthlessness with which it was carried out. U.S. Mustangs
appeared low over the city, strafing anything that moved,
including a column of rescue vehicles rushing to the city to
evacuate survivors. One assault was aimed at the banks
of the Elbe River, where refugees had huddled during the
horrible night.
In the last year of the war, Dresden had become a hospital town.
During the previous night's massacre, heroic nurses had dragged
thousands of crippled patients to the Elbe. The low-flying
Mustangs machine-gunned those helpless patients, as well as
thousands of old men, women and children who had escaped
the city.
When the last plane left the sky, Dresden was a scorched ruin,
its blackened streets filled with corpses. The city was spared
no horror. A flock of vultures escaped from the zoo and fattened
on the carnage. Rats swarmed over the piles of corpses.
A Swiss citizen described his visit to Dresden two weeks after
the raid: "I could see torn-off arms and legs, mutilated torsos
and heads which had been wrenched from their bodies and
rolled away. In places the corpses were still lying so densely
that I had to clear a path through them in order not to tread
on arms and legs."
The death toll was staggering. The full extent of the Dresden
Holocaust can be more readily grasped if one considers that well
over 250,000 -- possibly as many as a half a million -- persons died
within a 14-hour period, whereas estimates of those who died at
Hiroshima range from 90,000 to 140,000.*
Allied apologists for the massacre have often "twinned" Dresden
with the English city of Coventry. But the 380 killed in Coventry
during the entire war cannot begin to compare with over 1,000
times that number who were slaughtered in 14 hours at Dresden.
Moreover, Coventry was a munitions center, a legitimate military
target. Dresden, on the other hand, produced only china and
cups and saucers can hardly be considered military hardware!
It is interesting to further compare the respective damage to
London and Dresden, especially when we recall all the Hollywood
schmaltz about the "London blitz." In one night, 1,6000 acres
of land were destroyed in the Dresden massacre. London
escaped with damage to only 600 acres during the entire war.
In one ironic note, Dresden's only conceivable military target,
its railroad yards, was ignored by Allied bombers. They were
too busy concentrating on helpless old men, women and children.
If ever there was a war crime, then certainly the Dresden Holocaust
ranks as the most sordid one of all time. Yet, there are no movies
made today condemning this fiendish slaugher; nor did any Allied
airman or Sir Winston sit in the dock at Nuremberg. In fact,
the Dresden airmen were actually awarded medals for their role
in this mass murder. But, of course, they could not have been
tried, because there were "only following orders."
This is not to say that the mountains of corpses left in Dresden
were ignored by the Nuremberg Tribunal. In one final irony,
the prosecution presented photographs of the Dresden dead as
"evidence" of alleged National Socialist atrocities against Jewish
concentration camp inmates!
Churchill, the monster who ordered the Dresden slaugher, was
knighted, and the rest is history. The cold-blooded sadism
of the massacre, however, is brushed aside by his biographers,
who still cannot bring themselves to tell how the desire of one
madman to "impress" another one let to the mass murder
of up to a half million men, women and children.
NEVER FORGET THE VICTIMS OF THIS
UNSPEAKABLE CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY!
*Although it will never be possible to obtain an exact count
of the victims, a reasonable estimate can be adduced by
taking the number of registered inhabitants of the city,
doubling it by a factor of 2+ to account for undocumented
refugees in the city at the time, and then extrapolating the
number of dead from analogous instances in other German
cities subjected to Allied saturation bombing of civilians
during World War II, notably Hamburg, Darmstadt, Kassel
and Pforzheim, inter alia.

On Monday, February 6th, the Anglican Church of England voted to end financial investments in companies supporting Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories. The General Synod, a policy-making assembly, overwhelmingly backed the call by the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem to divest from "companies profiting from the illegal occupation ... until they change their policies."
One of the companies identified as a target includes Caterpillar Inc., the American manufacturer that produces the bulldozers Israel uses to build the West Bank separation wall. Israel also uses them to demolish Palestinian homes--since 1967, Israel has demolished 12,000 Palestinian homes, leaving 70,000 homeless.
The Anglicans invest about 2.5 million pounds in Caterpillar. The move to divest follows months of negotiations with the company about Israel's use of their equipment.
Caterpillar insists publicly it does not provide the militarily-modified bulldozers directly to Israel. It claims the US military sells them to Israel, a possible violation of the US Foreign Arms Export Control Act of 1976. This law limits the use of US weapons against civilian populations.
The Daily Telegraph reported the vote does not bind the Church Commissioners, the managers of denominational investments. Still, it is "hugely symbolic" since it is now a stated position on the morality of the Israeli occupation and companies abetting it.

Like it or not, the "circus act" has always occupied a place, albeit a dubious one, in the boxing world.
Nikolay Valuev is a giant of a man, standing at 7-foot (by most accounts anyway) and regularly weighing in at over 320 pounds. Though many people may not be aware of it, he is currently the heavyweight champion of the world, at least as far as the World Boxing Association is concerned.
The former basketball player from St. Petersburg, Russia, who now fights out of Germany, won the title on Dec. 17 with a 12-round majority nod over John Ruiz, a decision that was hotly disputed by the Ruiz camp and many in the crowd, which had been overwhelming partisan toward Valuev when the night began.
Controversy or not, both his life and career are good for Valuev right now, and with plenty of opportunity staring at him, there is the chance to become a worldwide star if everything goes right from here.
Valuev, however, could have easily found himself reduced to little more than an oddity put on display for the amusement of gawkers.
"The guy has been through seven promoters by now," says Don Majeski, the peripatetic matchmaker and agent who makes his living on the international front, "and he was never looked upon as a fighter. They all looked at him like some kind of freak show, and promoted him that way. So of course they had a lot of guys laying down in front of him."
Valuev, who turned pro in October of 1993 weighing 312 3/4 pounds, nearly always enjoys a weight advantage of 80-100 pounds over opponents. He advanced to the point where he had won both the Russian and Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) heavyweight titles, and had found himself inserted into the WBA's world ratings in November of 2000, but his career wasn't really going anywhere, largely due to the lack of a believability factor.
In 2003, Valuev joined forces with German promoter Wilfred Sauerland and began to make some genuine strides.
"Sauerland treated Valuev like he was a real boxer, which nobody had ever really done before," said Majeski, who serves as an advisor to Sauerland. "He began to put him with the right kind of opponents, so that he could develop. I mean, this guy didn't really learn how to fight until about a year and a half ago."
Under Sauerland, Valuev posted wins over journeymen Bob Mirovic and Dickie Ryan, former WBC cruiserweight champ Marcelo Dominguez, Italian Paolo Vidoz -- who would go on to win the European heavyweight title, previously undefeated Gerald Nobles (who was DQ'd for low blows and reportedly terrified) and Swedish import Attila Levin. He won a majority decision over Larry Donald last Oct. 1, which led to the WBA world title bout with Ruiz just 10 weeks later.
Valuev's ring style is nothing unique. He's more or less an orthodox fighter, who throws out a long left jab, uses his reach to tie his opponents up, and can do some damage with either hand, if he catches his foe just right. That's what happened to Clifford Etienne, the former contender, outweighed by 115 1/2 pounds, whom Valuev dispatched in three rounds last May, in a fight that led to the WBA elimination bout against Donald.
Even getting that far placed Valuev in a class well above all the 7-foot fighters who came before him.
There is very little comparison one can make between other seven-foot fighters and Valuev, who has accomplished more, has better rudimentary skills, and has better movement in the ring than virtually all of the aforementioned.
This is not to say that Valuev should be confused with a ballet dancer. But when considered within the context of other giants who have competed with gloves on, his presence has already been more significant than any of them and Valuev stands alone in terms of elevating himself into a position of true world prominence.
There is a bit more of an aura about Valuev as well. The fact that he does possess some basic ability has gone a long way toward cementing a psychological advantage against many of his opponents, as a function of his immensity.
But while Valuev's size may well be an intimidating factor against a certain class of heavyweight, there have been no shortage of people who wish to step forward and challenge him. Valuev's people appear to be in no hurry to put the WBA crown at serious risk, and those "people" now number among them one Don King, who became a promotional partner when he made a deal prior to the Ruiz fight.
Not surprisingly, the opponent slated for an April 1 title defense is a fighter from the King stable -- Owen Beck, who earned his shot by virtue of consecutive defeats to Monte Barrett and Ray Austin and an eight-round decision win over Darnell Wilson, a natural light heavyweight.
When Valuev comes to the U.S. in September, it will most likely be part of a doubleheader with WBA middleweight champ Arthur Abraham. The possible foes being discussed include Austin and Kevin McBride, the so-so New Englander who stopped a discombobulated Mike Tyson last June.
The rationale is not hard to figure. There is one fight on the horizon that would mean far more than any others, at least from a financial perspective.
"Of course, the fight I think they'd eventually be aiming at is with Wladimir Klitschko, if he winds up beating Chris Byrd for the IBF title," says Majeski. "The gate for that fight would be colossal, maybe the biggest live gate in the history of boxing in Germany."
Valuev has drawn big crowds in his adopted homeland, but curiously, very few people in America have had the opportunity to watch him fight. In fact, during the television era, Valuev may be one of only a couple of fighters who, at the time he won a recognized heavyweight championship, has been almost unrecognizable on U.S. television. (Former WBO champ Herbie Hide may fit in here, too.) There may be a certain design associated with that, because mystique has a way of disappearing with exposure, especially if your ability does not match your dimensions -- and in Valuev's case, how could they?
But the fact of the matter is that the demand for Valuev in America is rather elastic to this point. The fight with Ruiz was unwanted by any U.S. television networks and was only able to happen because of $1 million that came from European TV. The title fight against Beck is as yet unsold to any television entities here. The plan is that the September fight will be on HBO, and if Valuev gets past that, surely a fight in December with a mandatory contender will be worthy of more television interest.
There are other reasons for not rushing over to these shores. One of them has to do with basic economics. There is simply more money to be made through live audiences and television in Europe, which is more familiar territory for Sauerland.
Another is that a New Jersey-based businessman, Joe O'Donnell, has a claim to Valuev's promotional rights in the United States. Indeed, he did promote Valuev's fight in Atlantic City against George Linberger in 2001, and after O'Donnell won a preliminary round in court the case is still being contested, with the issue of international jurisdiction complicating things.
And then there is the matter of an assault charge Valuev now faces in Russia, where he is said to have roughed up a 61-year-old security guard at a skating rink, because he allegedly was rude to Valuev's wife.
It may be a stretch to say that Valuev is the "heavyweight of the future." But people his size are getting more agile and athletic with each passing year. Many of those athletes have gravitated toward basketball, but what if Valuev were to put together a significant title reign? Would it cause a change to the way boxing's so-called "governing bodies" lay things out in the heavyweight class, mindful of the fact that they are always on the lookout for more opportunities to earn sanctioning fees?
After all, in the days of Joe Louis and as recently as Rocky Marciano and Floyd Patterson, top-flight heavyweights often weighed less than 200 pounds. Long after it was well-established that leading heavyweights were getting naturally bigger and stronger (notwithstanding occasional exceptions like Leon and Michael Spinks, Roy Jones or James Toney), the cruiserweight division was instituted, in order to fill the vacuum that now existed between the 175-pound limit (light heavy) and where the "real" heavyweights were.
Will there be a point where fighters under, say, 220 pounds might be unable to compete with any kind of consistency in the upper reaches of the division? If Valuev experiences success, and there are some indications that he may be a harbinger of things to come, could a "super heavyweight" classification soon become part of the fabric of boxing?
Hank Kaplan, a recent Hall of Fame inductee who is perhaps the foremost boxing historian alive, can see a possible shift in that tide.
"Depending on how well this guy (Valuev) does," says Kaplan, "that will inspire the 'super dreadnaught' class, if you get two or three more of those kind of guys."
Whether Valuev himself is one of "those kind of guys" is something that remains to be seen. And when it comes to most people on this side of the pond, the phrase "remains to be seen" is something that must be digested in the literal sense.

Military commanders yesterday stepped up security for British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in the wake of a video apparently showing soldiers brutally attacking defenceless Iraqi teenagers.
The video was shown on TV channels in the Arab world just as ministers and Muslim leaders are trying to dampen the row over the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, and when thousands of British troops are preparing to be deployed to the hostile environment of southern Afghanistan.
It has come at a "bad time", a senior defence source admitted. The Ministry of Defence, still reeling after a series of cases of alleged abuse of Iraqis by British troops, said that the video appeared genuine, describing it as "extremely disturbing", and saying military police had begun an urgent investigation.
The film is described as a "secret home video" which was obtained by the News of the World, and apparently was filmed from a rooftop for fun by a corporal who is heard laughing and urging on at least eight of his colleagues. It shows the troops repeatedly kicking and punching civilians with batons after seizing them following riots two years ago in the Basra region in which British forces were attacked. Another soldier, apparently a corporal, mocks the youths and urges his colleagues on. The newspaper declined to name the regiment, understood to be based in Germany, to try to avoid reprisals.

COLLEGE PARK, MD, United States (UPI) -- The Bush administration trade deficit is now costing the U.S. $1 trillion each year.
The Commerce Department reported Friday that the 2005 trade deficit was $725.8 billion, up from $617.6 billion in 2004. In December, the trade deficit was $65.7 billion, up from $64.7 billion in November. My forecast for the December deficit was $66.2 billion.
In the fourth quarter, the trade deficit exceeded 6 percent of GDP, and with consumer spending slowing, a growing trade deficit will weigh down economic growth in 2006.
In 2005, the deficit on petroleum products was $229.2 billion, up from $163.4 billion in 2004; prices for imported petroleum rose about 37 percent from 2004. In December, the petroleum deficit was $21.8 billion, down from $23.0 billion in November.
The American appetite for inexpensive imported consumer goods and cars was a huge factor driving the trade deficit higher. In 2005, the deficit on non-petroleum goods was $537.6 billion, up from $487.6 billion in 2004.
The Wal-Mart effect was broadly apparent. In 2005, the trade deficit with China hit $201.6 billion, a new record. In November and December, the deficit with China declined for seasonal reasons--stores stock up for the holidays in October. The deficit with China will begin rising again in the New Year.
This situation is likely to become worse in the months ahead. Crude oil prices are rising again, and an overvalued dollar continues to keep imported cars and consumer goods cheap.
The dollar remains at least 40 percent overvalued against the Chinese yuan and other Asia currencies.
China continues to peg against the dollar. Although China revalued the yuan from 8.28 to 8.11 in July, and announced it would adjust the currency to a basket of currencies, the yuan continues to track the dollar very closely. Currently it is trading at 8.06.
China is permitting the yuan to rise at a pace of 1.2 percent per year. Since implicit value of the yuan rises about 5 percent each year, the yuan will remain at least 40 percent overvalued for the foreseeable future. The overvalued dollar will contribute mightily to the U.S. trade deficit until the Bush administration takes decisive action.
Together, higher oil prices and a strong dollar will push the trade deficit to new record highs. The trade deficit will likely exceed $800 billion in 2006.
High and rising trade deficits tax economic growth. Specifically, each dollar spent on imports that is not matched by a dollar of exports reduces domestic demand and employment, and shifts workers into activities where productivity is lower.
Productivity is at least 50 percent higher in industries that export and compete with imports, and reducing the trade deficit and moving workers into these industries would increase GDP.
Were the trade deficit cut in half, GDP would increase by nearly $300 billion, or about $2000 for every working American. Workers` wages would not be lagging inflation, and ordinary working Americans would more easily find jobs paying good wages and offering decent benefits.
Manufacturers are particularly hard hit by this subsidized competition. Through recession and recovery, the manufacturing sector has lost 3 million jobs. Following the pattern of past economic recoveries, the manufacturing sector should have regained about 2 million of these jobs, especially given the very strong productivity growth accomplished in durable goods and throughout manufacturing.
Longer-term, persistent U.S. trade deficits are a substantial drag on growth. U.S. import-competing and export industries spend three-times the national average on industrial R&D, and encourage more investments in skills and education than other sectors of the economy. By shifting employment away from trade-competing industries, the trade deficit reduces U.S. investments in new methods and products, and skilled labor.
Cutting the trade deficit in half would boost U.S. GDP growth by 25 percent a year.
These effects of lost growth are cumulative. Thanks to the record trade deficits under President Bush, the U.S. economy is about $1 trillion smaller. This comes to nearly $7,000 per worker.
Had the administration acted responsibly to reduce the deficit, American workers would be much better off, tax revenues would be much larger, and the federal deficit would be about half its current size.
Were the trade deficit cut in half, $2,000 would be recouped but $5,000 per worker in lost growth is essentially lost forever.
The damage grows larger each month, as the Bush administration dallies and ignores the corrosive consequences of the trade deficit.

It Happens To All Comedians
Comedians become unfunny as they age. Young people delight at discovering life's absurdities, but when you're middle-aged, you lose your edge. Absurdity is no longer new or funny, it's just a pain in the fucking ass that you have to deal with day after day, with no end in sight. Like everyone else, and maybe even moreso, comedians have relationships that break up, kids who take up their time and patience, more relationships that break up, alimony, agents... they get jaded. And they get rich. After a decade or so of being rich, life isn't the same as it was when you were a young, edgy person trying to kill at comedy clubs.
I remember watching comedians who'd been funny to my parents generation. Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Milton Berle. These guys had clearly seen better days. I went "Wha?" when I was expected to laugh. When I saw some early sketches of Steve Allen's on a retrospective, I was surprised at how funny they were, since I had only known Steve Allen as an utter bore who was glued to a piano seat behind his strangely flame-haired wife. It must have been a John-Yoko kind of relationship because Jane Meadows was as talented as a hatrack and nothing her once-famous husband said or did made either one of them memorable as anything other than an obnoxiously self-involved couple. Sid Caesar was another comedian who seemed funny in his old clips, but I was most familiar with him in his incarnation as a deadly unfunny pontificator on the philosophy of humor. There's nothing less funny than a comedian who starts going around defining what's funny.
It happens to all of us. Life gets predictable, we start taking the path of least resistance. To famous comedians, the least resistant path is picking up a huge paycheck for very little effort. Hey, at least they get the huge paycheck. Most of us who age out have nothing at the end of our path but Social Security. It happens to songwriters, too. Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder... great pop songwriters of yore who continue to churn out musical glop thirty years after their last decent song saw the light of day. It's always noted that Irving Berlin wrote tons of songs, but never mentioned how godawful those songs were after he reached a certain age. And directors.. Alfred Hitchcock put horse-drawn carts in "Frenzy" in the 1970s.
The songwriters continue to get recording contracts and the comedians continue to get movie backing because the entertainment industry knows these guys have a long-time audience who will buy anything of theirs, no matter how crappy it is.
Honestly, when was the last time a brilliantly funny 60 year old comedian was discovered? Rodney Dangerfield is the oldest "newly discovered" comedian I can think of and he was in his 40s when he achieved fame.
The 50s are a comedy killer.

Woman Carrying Human Head Arrested in Fla.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
Airport baggage screeners found a human head with teeth, hair and skin in the luggage of a woman who said she intended to ward off evil spirits with it, authorities said Friday.
Myrlene Severe, 30, a Haitian-born permanent U.S. resident, was charged Friday with smuggling a human head into the U.S. without proper documentation.
Customs and Border Protection officials found the head Thursday, after Severe arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on a Lynx International Airlines flight from Cap Haitien, Haiti, said Barbara Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami.
"It still had teeth, hair and bits of skin and lots of dirt," Gonzalez said.
Severe told authorities she had obtained the package in Haiti for "use as a part of her voodoo beliefs," ICE Special Agent Erick Hernandez wrote in an affidavit in support of a criminal complaint.
"Severe also stated that the purpose of the package was to ward off evil spirits," Hernandez wrote.
Severe, who also was charged with failing to declare the head and transporting hazardous material in air commerce, faces a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted of all charges, prosecutors said.
Severe remained held Friday in lieu of a $100,000 bond. She is due back in federal court March 2.

MOSCOW, Feb. 8 -- A grandfatherly figure, his bearded face wrinkled into a smile, peers down from billboards around town.
In a scene from the televised version of Solzhenitsyn's "First Circle," an inmate in one of Stalin's "special prisons" is played by Aleksei Kolubkov, center. The work deals with some of the Soviet era's darkest episodes.
It is surprise enough that the man is Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, the once-exiled writer, Nobel Prize winner and, of late, octogenarian scold. It is even more so that the billboards advertise his adaptation -- broadcast on state television, no less -- of one of his fiercely anti-Soviet novels, "The First Circle."
Solzhenitsyn has been called the conscience of the nation, but his reputation has risen and fallen as tumultuously as Russia itself since the collapse of the Soviet Union. "First Circle" has once again placed him on the national stage, reaching an audience that would have been inconceivable to him four decades ago, when he smuggled the book out of the Soviet Union.
The show, a 10-part series that began Jan. 29 and ends Thursday, is part of an industry here catering to what seems to be a growing interest in adaptations of the great works of Russian literature, some of them books that were banned in Soviet times. It began with Dostoyevsky's "Idiot" in 2004, includes less familiar Soviet-era works like "Master and Margarita" and "The Golden Calf," and will reach a climax of sorts this spring with the broadcast of a Russian adaptation of "Doctor Zhivago."
The first episode of "The First Circle" was the most watched program in the nation last week, narrowly edging out "Terminator 3," according to TNS Gallup Media. By this week, though, it had slipped to fifth place, at least in Moscow -- national figures were not yet available. But it was still attracting 15 million viewers a night.

It is striking to see how Norwegian politics differs from Danish politics. Europe is turning Muslim and the major threat to European secularists comes from extremist Islamists. While the Danes have been engaged in a conflict with Muslim extremists, the left-wing Norwegian government parties are appeasing them by fighting the Jews. Last Thursday Kristin Halvorsen (45), the Norwegian Minister of Finance, said that she is in favour of boycotting Israel.
Halvorsen, who is also the leader of the Socialist Left Party (SV), told the newspaper Dagbladet that she never buys Israeli products, such as oranges, and that she supports all Norwegian municipalities and provinces that boycott Israel. Halvorsen prefers Cuban oranges instead.
On 15 December the province of South-Trøndelag officially called for an economic boycott of Israel. The boycott entails that the provincial authorities will no longer buy Israeli products. They have also called on the province's 270,000 inhabitants to do the same.
The boycott was initiated by the far-left Red Electoral Alliance (RV). It received the support of all three Norwegian governing parties - the Labour Party (Ap) of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Halvorsen's SV and the environmentalist Center Party (Sp). It was also supported by a provincial councillor of the right-wing Progress Party (Frp) of opposition leader Carl I. Hagen.
The center-right Oslo newspaper Aftenposten remarked sardonically that South-Trøndelag is in "the good company" of Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Iran, the only members of the Arab League that still strictly apply the 1951 Arab League economic boycott of Israel. The 1951 boycott was based on the 1922 decision of the Fifth Arab Congress to boycot all commercial activities of Jews in Palestine. Aftenposten pointed out that clearly South-Trøndelag wants to be more radical than most member states of the Arab League.
Halvorsen's outspoken support for the boycott caused a row in the government last week. Fearing that Norway's role as a traditional mediator in the Middle East could be in jeopardy, Oslo was quick to stress that boycotting Israel is not its official policy.

Apparently he was persona non grata at the fascisti lovefest (CPAC) that's been going on this week. According to the Post, Barr was quoted:
"Are we losing our lodestar, which is the Bill of Rights?" Barr beseeched the several hundred conservatives at the Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park. "Are we in danger of putting allegiance to party ahead of allegiance to principle?"
Barr answered in the affirmative. "Do we truly remain a society that believes that . . . every president must abide by the law of this country?" he posed. "I, as a conservative, say yes. I hope you as conservatives say yes."
But nobody said anything in the deathly quiet audience. Barr merited only polite applause when he finished, and one man, Richard Sorcinelli, booed him loudly. "I can't believe I'm in a conservative hall listening to him say [Bush] is off course trying to defend the United States," Sorcinelli fumed."
That exchange sums up the Pug party in a nutshell. The Pugs are so cowardly they can't conceive of a way to have both security and liberty at the same time, like their fathers did during WWII, Korea and the Cold War. The first sign of trouble and these guys turn tail. As Al Gore pointed out, we lived for 40 years with 10,000 nuclear warheads pointed at us, ready to strike at a moment's notice. Is Islamoterrorism so much more of a threat that we're will to throw out the whole Republic to stop 15 guys with box cutters?
Funny thing is that I thought there would be millions of conservatives who would see through Bushco and react as Barr does. But I vastly overestimated the Pugs' adherence to principles. Aside from Barr and a few others, they're sheep. Nothing more.

Danish paper cancels plans to republish cartoons about Israel

The Danish newspaper that created a storm in the Arab world by publishing
cartoons of the prophet Mohammed has canceled plans to reprint several
cartoons dealing with Israel, a senior editor told Haaretz yesterday.
"We wanted to show that we make fun of everyone, not only Muslims," said
Pierre Collignon of Jyllands-Posten. "But for fear of being misunderstood, we
canceled the plan at the last moment."
One cartoon that was to be published on Sunday depicted a Star of David, to
which a bomb with a burning fuse had been attached. This cartoon, which has
been published in the newspaper in the past, was drawn by the same artist who
drew the cartoon of the prophet Mohammed with a "ticking bomb" on his head.
"We wanted to show that even the Jews, with all the historic sensitivity,
accepted satire aimed at their sacred symbols without staging angry
demonstrations."
Meanwhile, a Jyllands-Posten's editor said on CNN yesterday that he would
cooperate with the Iranian daily Hamshahri, which announced a competition of
cartoons on the Holocaust. However, the newspaper hastened to issue a denial.
Editor-in-chief Carsten Juste said the editor had been misunderstood. "On no
account would we publish Holocaust caricatures together with the Iranian
daily," he said.

I just hope that if any of you do feel as strongly as he did about it that you pay attention to just how all of this ended and think about it. GASSVILLE, Ark., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The teenager suspected of an ax attack on gays in a Massachusetts bar was near the Arkansas headquarters of white supremacist groups when he was shot.
Gassville, Ark., where Jacob Robida killed a police officer during a traffic stop, is a short drive on the highway from Harrison, home base of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Another group, White Revolution, is headquartered in nearby Russellville, the Boston Herald reported.
Glenn Miller, a White Freedom Party member, lives in Springfield, across the state line in Missouri, where Robida died in a hospital. Miller endorsed Robida's assault, which left three patrons of the Puzzles bar in New Bedford, Mass., seriously injured.
"I approve," he told the Herald. "Hell, I'd like to see that on TV every hour."
Police found Nazi posters and other items in a search of Robida's home after the New Bedford attack. But authorities have not said whether he had formal ties with supremacist groups.

Weinbaum said that the Web site operator, Alex Linder, who serves as publisher and editor of The Aryan Alternative newspaper, posted a message on the site saying that an anonymous complaint caused the host company to shut them down.
Linder vowed to find another host server to continue the Web site.

I was staying with some friends in Muizenberg near Cape Town in the early 70's and was taken one evening to meet Robert Ardrey who lived not far down the coast in Kalk Bay.
He regaled us with stories about Eugene Marais who was well known within South Africa, his books translated into English.
It was a fascinating evening though I don't recall the details of Ardrey's comments except that he had tremendous admiration for Marais.
I used to have a copy of the Soul of the White Ant which was published in South Africa. This was a treatise written by a scientist who was also a poet and observer of the highest calibre. I later came across the writings of poet naturalist Loren Eisley which reminded me a little of Marais.

defended apartheid as a necessary bulwark against black domination and the

According to the Jewish newspaper, Forward (Jan. 6, 2006), Ted Haggard [right], president of the National Association of Evangelicals, accused Weinstein of "endangering Jewish-Christian relations" by attempting to "limit freedom." Haggard says "... you are working to muzzle freedom of expression under the guise of separation of church and state." The author of the Forward article, E. J. Kessler, says there now exists "growing tension between leaders of the Christian right and Jewish activists, as Jews have pressed the evangelicals over matters pertaining to church-state separation. Haggard has added his voice to a small but growing chorus of evangelicals who suggest that the Jewish community's tactics in the church-state debate could weaken Christian conservative support for pro-Israel causes."
The Forward article continues: "After Anti-Defamation League's national director Abraham Foxman gave a speech last November warning of a broad-based conservative campaign to 'Christianize America,' a top official of one of the leading Christian groups, Focus on the Family, told the Forward that evangelical groups might temper their strong support of Israel in light of Foxman's sallies. 'If you keep bullying your friends, pretty soon you won't have any,' said Tom Minnery, Focus on the Family's vice president of government and public policy."
On radio, Rev. Donald Wildmon, leader of the American Family Association, echoed Focus on the Family. Land of Blessing for Jews
America is supposed to be a land of tolerance and fair play. Yet the ADL mentality asserts that, having suffered so bitterly at the hands of Christians for the last two millennia, it's now payback time. Such evil Jewish leaders have the right to mock, weaken, and even attack Christian symbols and values. Christians, they feel, should take it on the chin, or even in the solar plexus, without being so "anti-Semitic" as to identify the race or religion of their attackers.
For at least the last century, Christians have given evil Jewish leaders what they wanted: freedom from criticism. Meanwhile, such Jews have permeated the courts, government, finance and the media.
Yet, despite unprecedented favor, evil Jewish leadership only bites the hand that protects it.
America: Temple of Freedom
Emerging 300 years ago from the strife and persecutions of Europe, the United States of America gleams as a splendid temple of freedom to the nations. It is still a sanctuary of hope that all may visit and be ennobled by. Yet evil Jewish "civil liberties" organizations have set themselves up within this temple as not only its moneychangers, but also lawgivers. Instead of God's law and the Constitution, they substitute twisted definitions of those critical values that guide society.
For example, under the Hate Crimes Statistics Act of 1990 Congress gave ADL authority to preside over hate crimes definitions, education, and statistics-gathering for state governments and local police. ADL instructs government officials that "hate" equals bias against federally protected groups, especially homosexuals. "Tolerance" equals acceptance of homosexuality as normal. Thus, Bible-believing Christians and social conservatives become haters in the eyes of the law. (Already, on Oct. 10, 2004, eleven Christians were arrested as "hate criminals" by Philadelphia district attorney and ADL national board member Lynne Abraham. Her proposed penalty for the Christians? 47 years in prison and $80,000 fines each.)
Similarly, ADL/B'nai B'rith constitutes the new "Department of Anti-Semitism" within the U.S. State Department. It asserts that anti-Semitism is agreement with the New Testament that Jewish leaders had Christ crucified. Bible-believing Christians (most of whom are passionate supporters of Israel) are thus made into anti-Semites. (In Canada today, the penalty for conviction of the "hate crime" of anti-Semitism, under B'nai B'rith's federal hate law, is up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.)
Hollywood: Fountain of Evil
Such perversion of America's Christian values has also spewed out of Jewish-controlled Hollywood. The recent Golden Globe awards gave top honors to Brokeback Mountain, Capote, and Transamerica, all promoting sexual perversion as normal. Such continues the Jewish media's sordid record from its inception: encouraging immodesty and pornography, fornication and adultery, profanity, tobacco, alcohol and drug use, gratuitous violence, teen rebellion, the theory of evolution, the occult, and all forms of liberalism and secular humanism.
How Jesus Reacted
Two thousand years ago, Jesus found evil Jewish leaders, the Pharisees, ensconced within God's temple in Jerusalem. There, they bought and sold, transforming God's house of prayer into an ancient strip mall.
Christ went on rampage. He upended their tables, sending coins clattering and doves flying. He whipped the astonished moneychangers into panicked exodus. In the weeks that followed, He publicly excoriated the Pharisees, the fathers of modern Judaism, in the most specific, vitriolic, and extensive manner.
Now, as ADL threatens even greater opposition to Christian symbols and witness in America and ADL/B'nai B'rith laws indict Christians worldwide, Christians and their leaders, may have to react differently in order to survive. Contrary to all the church and the Jews have taught them, and against all their instincts, even perhaps against the law of the land, they may have to do the unthinkable:
Respond like Jesus.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- A Northwestern professor's support for the Iranian
president's denial of the Holocaust is angering students and faculty
across the university.
McCormick Prof. Arthur Butz recently backed Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad in comments published by several Iranian news agencies.
Calling the Holocaust a myth, Ahmadinejad said Israel should no longer
exist as a country. The remarks are causing global controversy.
"I congratulate him on becoming the first head of state to speak out
clearly on these issues and regret only that it was not a Western head
of state," Butz said. His comments were reprinted in Saturday's Chicago
Tribune.
Butz's statements circulated on campus through student listservs,
includes ones through Hillel Cultural Life and Shepard Residential College.
One widespread e-mail asked students to sign a petition calling for the
university to take action and prevent Butz from causing future
embarrassment.
Butz did not return phone calls or e-mails asking for his comment.
In a statement released Monday, University President Henry Bienen said
the university cannot take action against the tenured professor because
Butz has kept his views out of the classroom and unaffiliated with the
school.
Uncomfortable with free speech
"We cannot take action based on the content of what Butz says regarding
the Holocaust -- however odious it may be -- without undermining the vital
principle of intellectual freedom that all academic institutions serve to
protect," Bienen wrote.
Stuart Loren, a Weinberg sophomore, created the petition against Butz
on Saturday after reading the professor's statements in the Tribune.
The petition has about 200 signatures.
"The importance of the petition is not so much whether he is fired or not,
but to make a loud response from the Jewish community and the university
as a whole," said Adam Dorsky, a Communication freshman who signed
the petition.
Loren said he hopes the petition will encourage NU to clarify its standard
of conduct for faculty and make wiser decisions when giving tenure to
professors.
"Northwestern should not serve as a forum or haven for the spread of hatred
or historical inaccuracy," Loren said.
Butz' stance is nothing new. In 1976, just two years receiving his tenure,
he published book denying the Holocaust titled The Hoax of the Twentieth
Century. Since, his views have been published through various articles and
speeches.
Rabbi wants to 'sit down and cry'
His latest statements have reverberated beyond NU's campus. Since Saturday,
Loren has received e-mails from NU parents, alumni and a Holocaust survivor.
"I think we're forming a respectful and civilized platform to hold a dialogue on,"
Loren said. "I'm glad people are being respectful."
For many, the appropriate limits of free speech remain the salient issue.
Some, like Chabad House Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein, define the professor's message
as "hate speech."
"The pain and hurt associated with this is beyond words," Klein said. "I just
want to sit down and cry every time I think about it." Rabbi Josh Feigelson
from the Fiedler Hillel Center has also issued a response condemning Butz'
comments.
Aside from signing the petition, some Jewish students in McCormick also refuse
to take courses that Butz teaches.
"I would never take a class with him; it would be very uncomfortable to take
a class with someone who denies the Holocaust," said Alex Thaler, a McCormick
sophomore.
A community forum on Holocaust denial will take place tonight at 8 p.m. in room
212 of the Fiedler Hillel Center.

Universities and Women These Days
We have learned that more women than men are now in America's universities. This is, to us, bad news in several different ways.
First, it means that many young women are not staying home to have and raise children.
Second, it means that more women will run or control American society in the near future.
Third, it means that divorce rates will remain rather high, since the both-partners-working feature strains relationships more than the one-partner-working feature, since less free time is available for personal interactions.
Women are great when they are in their realm, just as an auto mechanic is great when he is in his realm. But we wouldn't hire an auto mechanic to perform, say, plumbing repairs to our home, since plumbing wouldn't be in his realm. Likewise, we don't want women running American society when they have a more natural, more important role to focus upon. Besides, women tend to embrace ideas that do not mesh with White, Western culture, e.g. racial and gender quotas/mandates in the workforce.
We say: let women thrive in their realm, and let men thrive in theirs. It seems so...simple [actually, it was simple for hundreds if not thousands of years until the Jewish-led feminist movement came along in about 1970].

I was just watching a program on the History Channel about "Modern Marvels." The subject was a steel mill blast furnace that can manufacture 11,000 tons of steel every day. At one point the narrator mentioned that steel cannot be manufactured without iron and iron is one raw material that the United states has in abundance. Suddenly it occured to me that indians, the ones with feathers in their hair, not dots on their forehead, had iron ore right under their noses for centuries yet they were too ignorant to do anything with it. Liberals tell the American public that these savages inhabited this continent for 10,000 years before the White race appeared on "their" shores. Before that time, American aboriginies had only flint knives and arrowheads. With the advent of the White race, "squats in squalor" was introduced to iron ore knives. It took the technologically advanced intellect and drive of Whites to add other raw materials to that iron ore to create the modern marvel of steel. The indians never entered the picture. Were it not for the White creativity and innovation there would be no modern industrial civilization. Liberals would be humped over in tee-pees, living like nomads as they depleated the natural resources of one area only to move to another to repeat the cycle. Who would they blame that bit of primative "harmony" on then?
In another related instance, the niggers had 6,000 years of uninterrupted oportunity to tap the natural resources of the African continent, yet they did no more with it than the abos in North America. Again, it took the White race to develop the wealth of diamonds and gold that was buried just beneath the surface. This is just one of several reasons why the niggers were put to work by the White race recovering the wealth they overlooked. The fact that the niggers and the indians were only coincidentally aware of the treasures that lay just beneath their feet, or how to develop them, speaks volumnes of their superficiality as individual races.
The White race, not niggers, not indians, not chinese, none of the muds, is responsible for the advance of civilization. Without White intellect, liberals and muds would be living in primative ignorance. Thank you History Channel, even though the points you made were unintentional, the White race still perceived and understood them. I revel in White Pride, White Power and White creative intellect.

Alex,
I just wanted to comment on how refreshing your media is. I recently purchased cable for female-entertainment purposes, and in less than 5 minutes of flipping channels, I remembered why I didn't turn it on in the first place. It is literally a sewer, especially when compared to the content available on the Internet. There is nothing that really appeals to normal white males. Almost every commercial has obvious minorities on display and it generates nothing but embarrassment and anger. They even have the gay channel LOGO in my area, which is really bizarre, and a Black Family Channel (different than BET). I may keep it for educational purposes only, to see the state of the art of propaganda in this country, but we'll see.
I find myself craving content from sites like VNN, Hal Turner, and National Vanguard each day (such as I remember feeling towards some TV shows in the past before I became aware of thoughts and sites like yours). I think there is a significant urge for real, brutally truthful opinions that white males can relate to.
The new live streaming is really good, and is much better than Hal Turner's network. Your site seems to get delayed (DOS attacks?) and skips sometimes, but I haven't been disconnected during a stream, so your IT guy has done well.
