Cops are very nearly worshipped in our society. On endless TV shows, in movies, police procedural novels, in the newspapers and on the nightly news, police are usually presented as virtue personified -- as if it's heroic to button up a blue shirt and pin on a badge.
All cops are not heroes.
But because of the myth that "all cops are heroes," there's minimal call for disciplining bad cops, and maximal call for "forgiving," and "understanding" the tough work of being a cop.
And that's despicable. And terrifying.
Letting cops get away with crime ...
... Or "punishing" police misconduct with long, leisurely paid suspensions ...
... Or probation ...
... Or sweet deals that allow a policeman's own police record to be expunged ...
... Or any of the other special treatments cops typically receive when they're accused of wrongdoing ...
... is assinine and counterproductive.
We'd like to see good cops get a raise, and bad cops held accountable for their crimes.
Any other policy is an invitation to savages and brutes -- to button up a blue shirt, pin on a badge, and break the law with impunity.

Conservation law students make a practice of taking first-year students to the Pittsfield Police Department firing range and make frequent hunting trips. Hunters bring their kills to campus, proudly displaying them to their friends, according to Meghan Bursey, Wildlife Conservation student.
Bursey, who takes a 12-gauge shotgun to school, goes hunting or scouting for game about every other day with her friends. She applauded the school's gun policy.
"I'm really thankful that Unity College lets us continue to keep hunting," Bursey said, "and not putting all these strict rules."

Black Arrested, Charged With Murder Of White Nursing Student
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A black was arrested and charged with the murder of a 23-year-old nursing student. Kimothy Simmons, 17, is suspected in last week's slaying of Sarah Whitlock. Whitlock was stabbed to death in her Riverside apartment on March 10 by Simmons, who may have been impersonating a police officer at the time. Simmons was arrested during a carjacking and brought in for questioning. His arrest came on the same day that Whitlock's ashes were scattered at sea. Undersheriff Frank Mackesy said a detective remembered seeing Simmons on a surveillance tape that showed him allegedly shoplifting a shirt with the word "police" on it. On the night Whitlock was killed, police said they found a narcotics officer's baseball cap, and a price tag from the police T-shirt, plus an unloaded gun and holster. According to police, Simmons was locked up in a juvenile detention center at age 12 for reasons unknown, and was later arrested for escaping from the facility. At 14, Simmons was arrested for carjacking, and at age 15 arrested again for car theft.

In this latest series of ads by Volkswagen, a white clad German man and his stylish blond female assistant question a wigger (whose dress and manner epitomize the latest in MTV-marketed angst-hole "cool") about his "pimped out" automobile, which is decked out in nigger-loud colors and worse-than-useless "high-performance" gimcracks (says the blonde of a drag-generating, vision-blocking foot-high hood scoop intended to "suck in air": "It iss definitely sucking."). German Guy then announces "It is time to un-pimp your auto" and, at the push of a button, the whiggermobile is destroyed in a spectacularly ignominious way. For added viewing pleasure, German Guy, speaking in thick accent, mocks the wigger's stupid jive talk throughout the commercial. We are then shown Volkswagen's latest model, white, clean-lined and bullshit-free ( i.e. aryan).

Man found with wife's head in bag
A man is being held by German police after walking into a petrol station with his wife's severed head in a bag.
The 40-year-old man, of Turkish origin, was covered in blood when he approached the night counter at about 0400 GMT and asked the attendant to call the police.
Hamburg police said officers found the head in a bag on a grass verge and arrested the man, who was in a confused state and admitted killing his wife.
The body of the woman, aged 39, was found in their nearby flat.
Hamburg police spokeswoman Ulrike Sweden said the man seemed "a bit crazy" and may have to see a doctor before charges can be brought.
Daughters safe
She said police found a large knife in the flat in Eissendorf, in the south of the city.
"It seems he used the knife to kill his wife and cut off the head," she told the BBC News website.
The couple's two children - girls aged 13 and six - were found in the flat and taken into police care.
"It seems they didn't see the body or what was going on," the spokeswoman said. A motive for the attack is still unclear.
Both the man and his wife were of Turkish origin, with German citizenship.
