Subject: SPLC on Fortier being released
Domestic Terrorism
10 Years Later, OKC Bombing Figure Walks Free
Michael Fortier, the smirking Arizona hardware store attendant who watched with his wife as Timothy McVeigh used soup cans to demonstrate how he planned to blow up the Oklahoma City federal building, walked out of prison on Jan. 20, after serving less than 11 years for his role in the mass murder. His current lawyer, Mike McGuire, said Fortier now "owes nobody" and is "excited about his future."
And with that, Fortier, his wife Lori and their two children disappeared into the federal Witness Protection Program, according to the Dallas Morning News. The government will give the family new identities and provide them free housing.
The decision to cut a plea-bargain deal with Fortier was always controversial, but he and his wife were said to be crucial witnesses in the trials of McVeigh, who was executed in 2001, and his co-conspirator Terry Nichols, now serving a sentence of life without parole. Fortier pleaded guilty to failing to alert authorities to the plot, which resulted in the deaths of 168 people; lying to federal agents after the bombing; and selling stolen guns in order to help raise money to finance the attack.
Fortier's involvement was not minor. McVeigh told him of the plot nine months before the bomb went off on April 19, 1995. Later, McVeigh diagrammed how he intended to build the bomb, using soup cans in the Fortiers' kitchen to show how he would place barrels of ammonium nitrate and nitromethane racing fuel so as to cause maximum damage. Fortier even cased the federal building with McVeigh.
Later, as the FBI investigated him, Fortier bragged to friends over tapped phones of how he planned to make "a cool million" by selling his story for a movie, complained about his treatment by the media, and reminisced about smoking crystal meth. He also made sneering, foul-mouthed comments about those investigating the case.
Lori Fortier, who watched McVeigh build the bomb model and heard him discuss his planned attack, joined in, too. Using an iron at her home, she laminated the fake driver's license that McVeigh later used to rent the Ryder rental truck in which he assembled the bomb. Thanks to a provision of her husband's plea bargain, Lori Fortier was never prosecuted for her role in the Oklahoma massacre.

BSU immigration march sponsored by Racist Organization
by Jonathan SawmiLLER
Opinion Writer
April 20, 2006
I was shocked when I picked up last Thursday's Arbiter and saw the giant headline screaming at me in Spanish. Spanish? Was the Arbiter now being published in a foreign language, the latest victim of the anti-American "multi-cultural" and "diversity" movements? To my relief, I realized only the headline was foreign.
I could read in good old American English the story of how Boise State students protested immigration reform along the recently renamed Cesar Chavez Lane (Ironically enough, in 1969, the infamous socialist labor organizer marched along the border to protest illegal immigration, which was cutting the wages of his farm workers).
"I don't believe in borders," The Arbiter quoted one protester, Kimberly Buringrude, as saying. Of course borders are wrong. Why would we want to keep criminals, terrorists, drug dealers and dirty illegal aliens out of our country?
Worse than the idiocy displayed by some of the protesters is the insidious agenda of one of the student organizations that sponsored the event. Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA), which translates to Chicano Student Movement of Aztlán, is a student organization with chapters at universities and high schools nationwide. What are their members' aims?
To quote from El Plan De Aztlán, the guiding document of MEChA since its formation in the late 1960s, "Brotherhood unites us, and love for our brothers makes us a people whose time has come and who struggles against the foreigner gabacho who exploits our riches and destroys our culture. With our heart in our hands and our hands in the soil, we declare the independence of our mestizo nation."
That's right, these racist Neo-Nazis want to "liberate" by force what they call a "mestizo nation" – they have outlined how they plan a revolution to seize the southwestern portion of the Unites States of America, and turn it into the Chicano country of Aztlán. I said racist, because these radical revolutionaries want to establish a nation without Americans, Africans, Europeans, or Asians – only Chicanos will be allowed. Their slogan is "Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada," which translates to "For the Race, everything, for those outside of the Race, nothing." How chilling.
Even more sick and twisted is MEChA's plan to incorporate Hispanic gangs in their revolution. Section 5 of El Plan De Aztlán says that "For the young there will no longer be acts of juvenile delinquency, but revolutionary acts." Imagine a country in which gang violence against non-Chicanos is legal and encouraged. Just hope your grandkids aren't living in Arizona when the ethnic cleansing begins.
I suppose it's good for diversity at BSU to have a student organization with such a blatantly racist agenda. The Klu Klux Klan all retreated to Arkansas, the Hitler Youth are extinct, and the Aryan Nations are hiding in the woods up in Sandpoint. Some organization had to step up to carry the banner of bigotry, racism, hatred and treason.
Speaking of treason, isn't it against the law for BSU to fund organizations that call for the overthrow of America? Ah, never mind. We know "diversity" and "multi-culturalism" comes before the law or the welfare of our country.
Opinion Editors Note:
Many readers have recently expressed their disgust with the reference, "dirty illegal aliens" in the above written article by Mr. Sawmiller. Sawmiller, a recently elected ASBSU Senator and opinion writer for The Arbiter has denied that he wrote that reference, a fact that The Arbiter has independently confirmed.
An Arbiter staff member added the word "dirty" before the story went to print. As Opinion Editor, I take full responsibility for not catching this beforehand, and apologize to all readers and Mr. Sawmiller for letting such a disgusting and hateful reference in the pages of The Arbiter. Every effort will be made to find the individual that added this word and ensure this person faces severe disciplinary action.

Saving the Last "Nazi" Church
Jesus, a German soldier and an Aryan family adorn the pulpit
Großansicht des Bildes mit der Bildunterschrift: Jesus, a German soldier and an Aryan family adorn the pulpit
A protestant parish is trying to raise money to restore the Martin Luther Memorial Church in Berlin -- and its National Socialist ornamentation -- as a memorial to the victims of the Nazis.
The imposing Martin Luther Memorial Church in Mariendorf, south Berlin, looks like many others built in the 20th century, with its brick and stone Bauhaus-style exterior. But the last surviving Nazi-era church in Germany is also a place where pastors preached from pulpits adorned with Aryans, and babies were baptised in a font featuring carvings of a Nazi storm trooper.
In fact, the National Socialist link is clear from the outset. In the lobby, an iron cross chandelier illuminates the busts of Martin Luther and Field Marshall Paul von Hindenburg, Germany's famous World War I commander. Church officials believe that there was initially a likeness of Adolf Hitler -- after whom the church was supposed to be named.
The swastikas have been removedBildunterschrift: Großansicht des Bildes mit der Bildunterschrift: The swastikas have been removed
In the main part of the church, stained glass windows framed by a stone arch face pews for 800 worshipers and a giant organ. The organ was first used at National Socialist rallies in Nuremberg in 1935 -- the year the church was opened and two years after Hitler came to power.
The huge stone archway has friezes on its square panels. Images of crosses and other religious symbols are next to those of workers, soldiers, eagles and some blank panels -- the swastikas were removed because they are illegal in Germany.
The altar features a Jesus that could have been a body builder.
"Everything is about power, strength and victory," said Ilse Klein, a historian who works at the church. "They are clearly fascist symbols."

Sophomore Novelist Admits To Borrowing Language From Earlier Books
In confidential letter, McCafferty's publisher says it is 'certain that some literal copying actually occurred'; new versions of Viswanathan's "Opal Mehta" will be edited to omit "inappropriate similarities"
By PARAS D. BHAYANI and DAVID ZHOU
Crimson Staff Writers
Kaavya Viswanathan '08 admitted yesterday to borrowing language from two books by Megan F. McCafferty, though the student novelist said that "any phrasing similarities between her works and mine were completely unintentional and unconscious."
In a statement released through her publisher, Little, Brown and Company, Viswanathan apologized to McCafferty and said that future printings of her recently-released novel, "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life," will be revised "to eliminate any inappropriate similarities."
She confirmed that she has read McCafferty's novels "Sloppy Firsts" and "Second Helpings," though she said she "wasn't aware of how much I may have internalized Ms. McCafferty's words."
But Random House, which published McCafferty's novels, is confident that "literal copying" occurred in Viswanathan's book, according to a confidential letter from the publishing giant to Little, Brown that was obtained by The Crimson.
"We are continuing to investigate this matter, but, given the alarming similarities in the language, structure and characters already found in these works, we are certain that some literal copying actually occurred here," read the letter, which is dated April 22 and was signed by Random House lawyer Min Jung Lee. "As such, we would appreciate your prompt and serious attention to this matter."
Lee wrote that illustrative examples of similar passages between "Opal Mehta" and McCafferty's novels were enclosed. The missive, which came on the letterhead of Random House and its parent company Bertelsmann, said that it was transmitted "by hand delivery."
Lee did not return repeated requests for comment Sunday and yesterday.
In a statement released alongside Viswanathan's yesterday, Little, Brown senior vice president and publisher Michael Pietsch said he received a letter from Random House on the morning of April 24 that included passages Random House had deemed similar between Viswanathan's novel and McCafferty's books.
"We consider this a serious matter and we are investigating it immediately," he said in the statement.
Pietsch added, "Kaavya Viswanathan is a decent, serious, and incredibly hard-working writer and student, and I am confident that we will learn that any similarities in phrasings were unintentional."
Little, Brown gave the Harvard sophomore a two-book, $500,000 contract when she was just 17. In February, DreamWorks bought the movie rights to "Opal Mehta."

Rumsfeld Says Success of War in Iraq Key to `Containing' Iran
April 25 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said success in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are key to containing what he said were ``extreme impulses'' coming from Iran, a country he tied to the American-led war on terrorism.
In an interview on the Pentagon's internal television channel Rumsfeld said those who believe the cost of the war in Iraq is too high should consider how failure would ``advance'' the cause of the Iranian government, which the U.S. says is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
``We need to put Iraq and Afghanistan in that context so that those people in our country who are deeply concerned about Iran, which is understandable, recognize that success in Afghanistan and success in Iraq is critical to containing the extreme impulses that we see emanating from Iran,'' Rumsfeld said according a transcript released by the Department of Defense.
President George W. Bush's approval rating, which fell yesterday to a record low in a CNN poll, has declined steadily since the start of 2005 as dissatisfaction with the course of the Iraq war has increased. U.S. military deaths in Iraq this month are nearly double those for March, according to DoD figures.
The U.S. and the European Union are trying to get Iran to suspend its nuclear program, which they say is aimed at building nuclear weapons, a claim the Iranian government denies.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday rejected a United Nations deadline to suspend Iran's nuclear program, threatening to quit the Non-Proliferation Treaty if the UN doesn't recognize the country's right to nuclear technology.
Comments on Jews
Ahmadinejad also said Israeli Jews should go back to the European countries from which they came, as the exodus was created by World War II belligerent nations, not by the Palestinians.
``The last thing Iran wants is to have successful regimes, representative systems, free people in Afghanistan and Iraq,'' Rumsfeld said in the interview. ``It is harmful to their view of the world, to their extreme view of the world.''
Asked if Iran is ``tied together'' in the War on terror, Rumsfeld replied ``indeed.''
Ahmadinejad has said the country is a peaceful nation, while China and Russia have said Iran's nuclear program isn't a threat to international peace and oppose discussion of sanctions. U.S. President George W. Bush said last week he won't rule out a military attack against Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
Mounting tensions over the Islamic nation's nuclear research helped push oil in New York last week to above $75 a barrel. Iran, the world's second-largest holder of oil and gas reserves, wants a ``fair price'' for oil on international markets, Ahmadinejad said yesterday, without elaborating.
