Reclaimed archives show the full treachery of an infamous MP, says Tim Luckhurst
As the Nazi blitzkrieg smashed its ruthless way through Poland, the MP for Peebles and South Midlothian retired calmly to his office in the House of Commons to pen new lyrics to the tune of Land of Hope and Glory.
Captain Archibald Maule Ramsay's version, entitled Hymn 1939, begins "Land of Dope and Jewry, land that once was free, All the Jew Boys praise thee, while they plunder thee." That opening line alone might betray the unpleasant mettle of the man, but now the last surviving copies of wartime newspapers, salvaged by curators of the Tweeddale Museum in Peebles, have exposed the full, astonishing story of Scotland's most vehement Nazi sympathiser.
With his outrageous views and virulent anti-semitism, Ramsay would come to be regarded by MI5 as a greater threat to national security than the British fascist leader Oswald Mosley. Unlike Mosley, however, the captain's name is virtually unknown.
Perhaps schoolboys of the 1960s and 1970s can be forgiven their ignorance, for Ramsay's fall from grace was swift and conclusive. True, in the autumn of 1939, the Peeblesshire News and South Midlothian Advertiser record that Ramsay was highly regarded in some quarters. On a visit at the time, he was given "a very warm welcome and was greatly encouraged by the expressions of goodwill which he received". His local reputation was as a politician who "prefers to use every means in his power to overcome difficulties and secure practical results, rather than indulge in specious promises". He saved his anti-semitism and reverence for Hitler and Mussolini for audiences further from home.

Subject: Denmark in flames, thanks to muds

The ancient harbour city has seen nothing like it in its history. The most exciting thing that happens here is the ferry sailings for our capital Copenhagen but for several nights in a row, there have been the worst riots in Århus for many years and the attacks, just like those in Paris have been carried out by angry young Muslims. Whereas the Muslim rioters in France come from North Africa the ones here come from Turkey, Lebanon and Somalia. Policemen have been attacked, shops looted and one building set on fire. It seems as if Europe is about to ignite and it is now almost winter here. I fear what might have happened if this had been midsummer with our long hot sunny days bringing more people out on to the streets. Our local paper, Jyllands Post is the only paper that mentions the identity of the attackers. Our television channels have only talked about violence but not who has been the cause of the trouble.
"This land belongs to us", declared the young rioters.
On Sunday evening the Århus fire department needed police escorts to get in and extinguish an arsonist fire in Søndervangs Alle.
The words of the young Muslims sound like an open declaration of war against Danish society. The police must stay away. This area belongs to immigrants.
Four youngsters sit at the wall in the Rosenhøj centre, Sunday afternoon, self declared spokesmen, for those groups who three nights in a row has rioted, and set businesses on fire. All around the parking lot, there are swarms of cars with youngsters from the immigrant community, who are celebrating the worst riots in Århus in several years. Every night, 30 to 40 immigrant youngsters participated. Only two have been arrested. It was a victory.
A window was smashed in a house and a petrol bomb thrown in setting the building ablaze. The fire engines waited for a police escort so they could enter in and try to put out the fires. Bricks from the street have been thrown and used to smash windows along the street. The police reports that the youngsters came to the area armed with rocks that they brought in.
On Saturday(29th), a 16 year old from Somalia was jailed for committing dangerous violence, because he attacked a bakery with large rocks. One rock barely missed an employee's face.
Raids
"We are tired of being oppressed. We are tired of the police raiding our parents. We are tired of the police stopping our cars, and raids (sic) us in public and damages our honour."
"We are tired of the police beating up our friends, like they did this afternoon", screams a young man with his face covered.
He calls himself 100 percent Palestinian, born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, 19 years ago, and is now unemployed in Denmark.
"The police has to stay away. This is our area. We rule this place"
Local newspaper cartoons
Anger has also been directed towards a local newspaper, the Jyllands Post for apparently posting cartoons deemed to be offensive to the young Muslim migrants.
"We are angry to what has happened to our prophet. We are tired of the Jyllands Post …. but we are not going to take this, what the Jyllands Post has done towards the prophet", he states aggressively, and the others nod in agreement.
Planned for three weeks
Two of them are Turks, and it is the first time that Turks and Palestinians have joined forces, according to the spokesman.
"We have planned this for three weeks. That's why only two were arrested on Saturday.
Police tried to block us in, but we know how to get out", he states and disappears chewing on a piece of pizza that he has looted from Fun Pizza.
England, France, Denmark, the Netherlands; not one country which has opened its doors to large scale migration from Africa and the Middle East seems spared from the anger that the young people from these places bring with them. We have not seen people killed here in Denmark yet but many are wondering just how long it we be before we have a death reported. Local people, especially the older people are angry of course but too many are afraid of speaking openly because no one wants to be labelled as a racist.

Subject: free speech defenders stand up in Britain
Our appeal for a good turn-out in Leeds today was answered by a fantastic response, with just over 350 supporters of free speech in attendance to cheer on BNP Chairman, Nick Griffin, and key Publicity Team member, Mark Collett, who both had to attend the city's Crown Court.
A blanket ban has been placed on the media, including the BNP's own media operations, which prevents us mentioning what happened inside the court, except to say that it was the first day of legal arguments, with today being the turn of the defence counsel to put forward its case.
Another day of legal arguments takes place tomorrow (3rd), after which the judge will retire to deliberate and report his findings; a process which may take several weeks. There is a possibility that the case could be thrown out at this stage. If however the case against the Free Speech Two is to continue the full trial will commence on 16th January 2006.
Case background
It might be useful to remind our growing army of website visitors about the background to the case and the nature of the charges against Mssrs. Griffin and Collett. Both patriots delivered speeches to separate private BNP meetings throughout West Yorkshire during 2003 and 2004, where both speakers described their concerns, to the private BNP gatherings, about the threat of Islamification and the disastrous consequences of mass migration to Britain. An individual working undercover for the BBC, an agency of the State which is headed by a New Labour appointee and funded by British taxpayers, was present at the meetings and used covert cameras and microphones to capture video and audio footage of the meetings. This footage was passed on to West Yorkshire Police who, in turn, passed this on to the Crown Prosecution Service; an agency of the State headed by a New Labour appointee, Lord Goldsmith in his role as Attorney General.
The CPS decided that there was enough evidence and a case to answer. Both Nick and Mark were subsequently charged earlier this year with "using words or behaviour intended or likely to stir up racial hatred." Both now face up to seven years in some god forsaken overcrowded prison, just because they told the truth. Both men have had their family homes ransacked by police officers in a desperate search for evidence; both men have had to endure hours of agony and angst whilst detained in urine stinking police cells; both have had their personal computers removed for forensic analysis by the police in a desperate attempt to uncover "incriminating" evidence.
Poppy sales
Despite the serious nature of this assault by New Labour tyrants upon a fundamental freedom; the freedom of speech, all the BNP supporters in Leeds were good humoured, sang patriotic songs and thanks to two lovely ladies, Anita and Angie managed to sell several hundred poppies, on behalf of the British Legion, to shoppers and passers-by.
A combined effort by the bizarrely named United Against Fascism (UAF) and several Marxist dominated trade unions, which together have a combined membership of several million resulted in a turnout of 300 assorted full time union officials, students from local colleges who were skipping lectures and the permanently unemployable. A spokesman for Unison, the public sector workers union, was clearly embarrassed by the poor nationwide response and told a local reporter that "this was the day we could have got Griffin, the response from the union membership is to be blunt bloody pathetic".
BBC man attacked
The juvenile antics of the anti free speech crowd were clearly evident when the award winning Indian born BBC reporter Barnie Choudhury was struck by an egg, thrown by some individual in the union/UAF crowd.
Another unfortunate victim of the infantile and criminal behaviour of the union/UAF crowd was the Student Editor of Leeds University newspaper who was hit by a "flour bomb".
So far West Yorkshire Police have made no arrests but a spokeswoman from Leeds Police has tonight confirmed that CCTV footage is being viewed to identify the attackers.
The website team has been asked tonight to pass on a message that both Mark Collett and Nick Griffin are sincerely appreciative of the support given to them and would like to personally thank every single person who attended today's demonstration in support of free speech. Whatever happens to Mark and Nick the BNP will, day by day, continue to win over more new supporters and members and help bring about the historic change which will one day in the next few years ensure a future for British children for all time to come.

French youths open fire on police

French youths fired at police and burned over 300 cars last night as towns around Paris experienced their worst night of violence in a week of urban unrest.
The French prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, was involved in a series of crisis meetings today following the clashes between police and immigrant groups in at least 10 poor suburbs, during which youths torched car dealerships, public buses and a school.
Four shots were fired at police and fire officers in four different towns without causing any injuries, said Jean-Francois Cordet, the senior government official for the troubled Seine-Saint-Denis region north of Paris, where the week of violence has been concentrated.

Protestors set fire to 315 cars in the Paris area overnight, half of them in Seine-Saint-Denis, where nine people were injured, officials said.
The violence has once more trained a spotlight on the poverty and lawlessness of France's rundown big-city suburbs and raises questions about an immigration policy that has, in effect, created sink ghettos for mainly African minorities who suffer from discrimination in housing, education and jobs.
In the north-eastern suburb of Aulnay-sous-Bois, gangs of youths set fire to a Renault car dealership and incinerated at least a dozen cars, a supermarket and a local gymnasium.
In nearby La Courneuve, two shots were fired at riot police, Mr Cordet said. A third shot targeted firefighters in Noisy-le-Sec, and a forth was aimed at a fire crew in Saint-Denis, home to the Stade de France stadium.
Bands of youths forced a team of France-2 television reporters out of their car in the suburb of Le Blanc Mesnil, then flipped the vehicle and set it on fire.
Unrest spilled over to public housing projects in the area, where police engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with youths, who would break car windows and toss petrol-bombs inside before running away.
Today, France's government was in crisis mode with Mr de Villepin calling a string of emergency meetings with government officials throughout the day.
One was a working lunch with the interior minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, who has been accused of inflaming the crisis with his tough talk and police tactics. Mr Sarkozy has called troublemakers "scum" and vowed to "clean out" troubled suburbs, language that some say further alienated their residents.
The unrest was triggered by last Thursday's accidental death in Clichy-sous-Bois, five miles from Aulnay, of two African teenagers who were electrocuted while hiding in a power substation from what they believed, apparently wrongly, was police pursuit. An interior ministry official described the clashes as "more like sporadic harassment, lightweight hit-and-run urban guerrilla fighting, than head-to-head confrontation". Small, highly mobile groups of up to a dozen youths emerge, hurl stones or petrol bombs, and disperse. "It's hard to contain," the official said.
The minister of social cohesion, Jean-Louis Borloo, said the government had to react "firmly" but added that France must also acknowledge its failure to deal with anger simmering in poor suburbs for decades.
"We cannot hide the truth: that for 30 years we have not done enough," he told France-2 television.

New York, NY, September 21, 2005…The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned as "insulting, disgraceful and dangerous" plans by leaders of Southern Baptist Convention – the nation's largest Protestant group - to consider forming a partnership with a Messianic Jewish group in order to missionize Jews in the United States and around the world. The League called on the Southern Baptist Convention to stop their efforts to convert Jews.
On September 20, the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention approved a proposal to study whether the SBC's North American and international mission boards should formally recognize the Southern Baptists Messianic Fellowship – a Messianic Jewish group – as "an evangelistic mission to Jewish people in the United States and throughout the world."
The executive committee's vote to recommend that the proposal be put on the agenda at next year's SBC annual convention follows the launching last year by the SBC of the Pasche Institute of Jewish Studies at Criswell College in Dallas, whose purpose is to teach Baptists leaders how to minister to Jews.
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
The idea of the Southern Baptist Convention using a so-called Jewish messianic group – which misrepresents two faiths – to target Jews for conversion is disgraceful, insulting and dangerous.
We are outraged over the continuing efforts by the Southern Baptist Convention to target Jews for conversion, especially by considering 'deputizing' a Jewish Messianic group, part of a deceptive movement that falsely claims they are interested in Jewish practices when the real goal is to convert Jews to Christianity. These efforts should be stopped once and for all.
Together with the establishment last year of an institute aimed at teaching Baptist leaders how to minister to Jews, the Southern Baptist leadership continues to show its disrespect and disregard for the validity of Judaism and the Jewish people.

Why Weis, but not Willingham?

I believe it was the great Negro philosopher Don King who best summarized Charlie Weis' Notre Dame contract extension: "Only in America."
Because only in the land of apple pie, baseball and hypocrisy would a major sports organization have the audacity to give a white football coach a record contract for winning five of his first seven games just a few months after prematurely firing a black coach who won his first eight.
You have to be impressed with Notre Dame's arrogance.
Critics be damned! You might think the firing of Ty Willie was racist. That was nothing. Wait until you see how we treat his successor.
Weis got the better of Willingham this season -- but Willingham had the better start at ND.
For the record, I didn't have a problem with Notre Dame's firing Willingham. Yes, he deserved five years. But his firing didn't strike me as particularly racist, just shortsighted and unfair. Life is rarely fair, and we're certainly an instant-gratification society. The same factors could and do lead to the premature demise of white coaches (see Rick Carlisle and Larry Brown, Detroit Pistons).
Now, Weis' new 10-year contract, reportedly worth between $30 million and $40 million … that strikes me as racist. Because there's just no way Notre Dame, or any school for that matter, would do the same thing for a black coach.
How do I know this?
Because Willingham was far more impressive in the first two months of his initial season than Weis has been in his, and all Tyrone got was a pat on the back.
Sit down before reading the next couple of sentences, because what I'm about to tell you will shock you.
SOUND OFF
Jason Whitlock says that Charlie Weis' contract extension is not only shortsighted, but in the wake of Tyrone Willingham's dismissal at Notre Dame, it's quite possibly racist. How do you feel about that?
Charlie Weis has not proven that he's the second coming of Joe Paterno, or Jimmy Johnson, or Pete Carroll, or even Bob Stoops. Charlie Weis has not won one football game that he wasn't supposed to.
Notre Dame has beaten a mediocre Michigan team, a Dave Wannstedt-coached Pittsburgh team that is .500 only because the Big East is terrible, the third- or fourth-best team in the Mountain West Conference (BYU), a bad Purdue squad, and a Washington club with one victory (vs. Idaho).
Please don't tell the CIA I told you this -- this information is classified top secret -- but the combined record of Weis' victims is 17-24.
I know, I know. You turn on the TV, pick up the newspaper or click on the Internet, and you're led to believe that Notre Dame, under the ingenious direction of the "Great Weis Hope," is undefeated, having hammered USC, Texas and Virginia Tech all in the same weekend.
Sadly, it's not true. Weis' greatest accomplishment so far is that he led Notre Dame to a close loss against USC. Buddy Teevens (Stanford) and Karl Dorrell (UCLA) put the same thing on their résumés last year. But they're still waiting on their 10-year, $30 million-$40 million contracts.
In case you've forgotten, in 2002, Tyrone ran up an 8-0 record against Maryland, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, Pittsburgh, Air Force and Florida State. Six of those teams -- all but Stanford and Michigan State -- played in bowl games that year. The combined record, including bowl games, for those eight clubs was 60-43.
And how 'bout this?
Willingham won those eight games with Carlyle Holiday, an option quarterback recruited by Bob Davie, running Willingham's West Coast passing offense.
The Great Weis Hope is beating marginal teams with a Willingham-recruited quarterback -- Brady Quinn -- so talented that some NFL draft experts suggest he would be taken ahead of Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart.
Yes, Weis is doing a nice job working with the offensive talent Willingham recruited. But while Willingham inherited offensive personnel recruited to run the football, Weis inherited players recruited to operate in a pro-style passing offense.
Forgive me for not being shocked that Weis is getting points out of all that mature, experienced talent Willingham left behind.
Who's gotten a sweeter deal than Weis after seven games?
I'm sorry if this column comes off like a vicious attack on Weis. It's not. I think Weis has a chance to be an outstanding head coach. I'm actually rooting for Weis to be successful. Two members of his coaching staff -- defensive coordinator Rick Minter and tight ends coach Bernie Parmalee -- go back to my Ball State playing days. Minter owns the best football mind I've ever been around, and he deserves another head coaching position. Parmalee, my former teammate, is as good a human being as you'll ever meet. I consider Minter and Parmalee friends. If Weis succeeds, it means my two friends will benefit.
Weis just needs to earn it, like everyone else. Weis and his handlers shouldn't get away with floating the story about his $1.5 million buyout and how that makes Notre Dame vulnerable to an NFL team stealing him. The media shouldn't act like Notre Dame had no choice but to hand Weis a new deal.
If the New York Giants or any other NFL team decides it wants Weis as its coach, there's no amount of money that is going to stand in the way of that getting done. Only Weis can stop that deal by saying he'd prefer to remain a college coach.
You think Weis is the only college coach the NFL has ever been interested in?
After winning a national championship, Stoops has had to turn down the NFL almost every year. You think an NFL team wouldn't give Carroll another opportunity?
This is a gigantic overreaction by a school administration that should know better. They watched Willingham experience early success and then struggle. Notre Dame has no clue whether Weis can recruit or sustain success.
Let's call this exactly what it is: greed and stupidity. Just like Terrell Owens -- but with far less proof -- Weis and his advisors reached the conclusion that the Great Weis Hope outperformed his contract. So Weis and Notre Dame concocted an excuse for the South Bend skies to rain money, and the fawning, lazy, hypocritical media co-signed for it.
Maybe had Willingham tried push-ups and sit-ups in his driveway, he would still be Notre Dame's coach. Never mind. T.O. tried that.
