The Hero, that great political genius of the 20th century, was wrong. His only mistake throughout his short, but incredibly successful leadership of Germany and most of Europe, was that he was too ethnocentric.

His policy towards the Slavs, a cousin people within the great fold of the Europid race was all but shameful. When Ukrainians rushed to the German side against their Soviet oppressors they were curtly dismissed. This brought dismay and disillusionment not only within the Wermacht, but especially so within the SS. These elite fighting units had a pan-Aryan policy that included Bosnian and Herzegovina Muslim troops. Himmlerâs secretary married the Ukrainian resistance hero, General Vlasov in Berlin, just a month before the war ended. More than a million volunteers from all over Europe, including the Latin countries, were enrolled within the Waffen SS.

And The Heroâs ethnocentric policy also benefited his greatest enemies: the Jews. For with the racial laws, whereby individuals had to prove their Aryan origin up to at least 1800, many Jews, unaware that they were in fact Jews, were branded as such. Thus we had blond giants suddenly transformed into Jews, becoming the best fighting men for the nascent Israel. It can be said that German Sabras saved Israel in the first crucial years of its history.

Had Germany emerged victorious, The Hero would have lived for another ten years at the most. He suffered from Parkinsons disease - and the British knew that, having been informed by Admiral Canaris of the Abwehr. The Fuhrer would have been succeeded by a new elite, certainly from within the ranks of the SS. Pan-Aryanism would have become the policy for a United Europe. The uncouth element of National Socialism would have been swept away by the Old Prussian Aristocracy, within the SS - and with them, would have been the best elements from all European countries - from England to Vladivostock.

It can be said that the right side, the side that represented values of aristocracy as against the mercantile, Jewish view of life, lost in that epic struggle that was WWII. And this primarily because of The Heroâs only mistake, a fatal mistake: ethnocentricity as against Pan-Aryanism.

A lesson that should be learnt, now more than ever. As the White Race diminishes in numbers, we can no longer afford the luxury of divisions and rivalries. We have to be as one: all the Patriotic Forces within the White World. We have to join together in the fight against our mortal enemies: those same enemies who threw the gauntlet against Rome two thousand years ago and who have vowed to destroy us.

And that is what we, of Imperium Europa here in Malta, must achieve. We must become that spark that will burst into a flame which will set Europe, and the whole White World, ablaze. This revolution, this resurgence, this restoration can occur nowhere else but here, in the sacred humus, the Sacred Island of Melita: the Spiritual Centre of the coming, inevitable, unstoppable: Imperium Europa.

Throughout the long reign of J. Edgar Hoover, the F.B.I. voraciously compiled information on suspected national-security threats -- and often put it to damaging use. Beginning with a campaign against the Communist Party, U.S.A., in 1956, the bureau's notorious Cointelpro programs aimed to ''expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit or otherwise neutralize'' their targets. The nearly continuous monitoring of John Kerry's antiwar activities in the early 70's only hints at the sweep of surveillance efforts at the time.

While the F.B.I.'s campaign against antiwar ''subversives'' was largely ineffective, a considerably less ardent campaign against the Ku Klux Klan and its allies proved devastating. In the late 60's and early 70's, membership in white hate groups dropped as much as 70 percent; paranoia over infiltration reached such heights that the national Klan leader, Robert Shelton, threatened to use polygraph tests and truth serum to gauge members' loyalty. While the F.B.I. sought to dismantle the new left, it merely hoped to control the white right. And yet its activities did far more damage to the racists than the radicals. Is there a lesson to be learned from this arguably unintended victory?

When three civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi during the ''freedom summer'' of 1964, Attorney General Robert Kennedy and others in the Johnson administration pushed hard for the F.B.I. to take on a new foe: the militant white defenders of segregation. Hoover reluctantly responded by opening a bureau field office in Jackson, Miss., and transferring 153 agents to the state. Behind the scenes, he also took aim at 26 so-called white hate groups in the South.

The ''Cointelpro-White Hate Groups'' program was not any more aggressive or imaginative than the bureau's campaigns against civil rights or antiwar protesters; in all cases, anonymous letters, phone calls to parents or employers, the planting of derogatory news stories and the covert use of informants were the F.B.I.'s tactics of choice.

But the bureau enjoyed certain advantages when it took on the white right. For one thing, Klan members tended to see themselves as strongly patriotic and vehemently anti-Communist -- and they admired J. Edgar Hoover for sharing those traits. Whatever their own views on civil rights, F.B.I. agents had a ready-made connection with their targets.

Agents consistently exploited this connection when seeking out Klan members. Within only a matter of months, the F.B.I. was able to recruit hundreds of informers. Meanwhile, the bureau succeeded in siphoning Klan adherents into the National Committee for Domestic Tranquility, a phony organization tailored to Klan members' religious beliefs and desire to ''back our boys in Vietnam.''

Because Klan members were disproportionately drawn from poorer rural communities, they were especially susceptible to the F.B.I.'s financial enticements. By official directive, the bureau's fake publications and letters were mandated to include ''appropriate misspellings and poor grammatical construction so as to lend authenticity.'' In one instance, an agent proposed copying and distributing a sticker from Mad magazine that read ''Support Mental Illness -- Join the Klan!'' But Hoover vetoed the idea: he feared that Klan members' ignorance might lead them to believe that the Klan was ''actually supporting a charitable need, mental illness.''

Klansmen were prone to view their lot as shaped by vast conspiracies led by Jews, Communists or Catholics, and agents frequently acted to exacerbate this paranoia. After a Klan unit burned a cross in a black neighborhood outside Houston in 1966, the bureau hatched an odd scheme. Instead of cataloguing the charred remains of the cross as evidence of criminal wrongdoing, they packed the burned cross in a four-foot-long box and hired a local delivery service to drop it off in the dead of night at a supposedly secret meeting of the ''Coon Hunter's Club.'' The intended message was clear: to let the Klansmen know that they were being watched, perhaps even by their fellow members.

The Pastiche of a Presidency, Imitating a Life, in 957 Pages

As his celebrated 1993 speech in Memphis to the Church of God in Christ demonstrated, former President Bill Clinton is capable of soaring eloquence and visionary thinking. But as those who heard his deadening speech nominating Michael Dukakis at the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta well know, he is also capable of numbing, self-conscious garrulity.

Unfortunately for the reader, Mr. Clinton's much awaited new autobiography "My Life" more closely resembles the Atlanta speech, which was so long-winded and tedious that the crowd cheered when he finally reached the words "In closing . . ."

The book, which weighs in at more than 950 pages, is sloppy, self-indulgent and often eye-crossingly dull the sound of one man prattling away, not for the reader, but for himself and some distant recording angel of history.

In many ways, the book is a mirror of Mr. Clinton's presidency: lack of discipline leading to squandered opportunities; high expectations, undermined by self-indulgence and scattered concentration. This memoir underscores many strengths of Mr. Clinton's eight years in the White House and his understanding that he was governing during a transitional and highly polarized period. But the very lack of focus and order that mars these pages also prevented him from summoning his energies in a sustained manner to bring his insights about the growing terror threat and an Israeli-Palestinian settlement to fruition.

Certainly it's easy enough to understand the huge advance sales for the book. Mr. Clinton would seem to have all the gifts for writing a gripping memoir: gifts of language, erudition and charm, combined with a policy wonk's perception of a complex world at a hinge moment in time, teetering on the pivot between Cold War assumptions and a new era of global interdependence. Add to that his improbable life story a harrowing roller-coaster ride of precocious achievements, self-inflicted slip-ups and even more startling comebacks and you have all the ingredients for a compelling book.

But while Dan Rather, who interviewed Mr. Clinton for "60 Minutes," has already compared the book to the memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant, arguably the most richly satisfying autobiography by an American president, "My Life" has little of that classic's unsparing candor or historical perspective. Instead, it devolves into a hodgepodge of jottings: part policy primer, part 12-step confessional, part stump speech and part presidential archive, all, it seems, hurriedly written and even more hurriedly edited.

In fact, "My Life" reads like a messy pastiche of everything that Mr. Clinton ever remembered and wanted to set down in print; he even describes the time he got up at 4 a.m. to watch the inaugural ceremonies for Nigeria's new president on TV. There are endless litanies of meals eaten, speeches delivered, voters greeted and turkeys pardoned. There are some fascinating sections about Mr. Clinton's efforts to negotiate a Middle East peace agreement (at one point, he suggests that Yasir Arafat seemed confused, not fully in command of the facts and possibly no longer at the top of his game), but there are also tedious descriptions of long-ago political debates in Arkansas over utility regulation and car license fees . There are some revealing complaints about missteps at the FBI under Louis Freeh's watch , but there are also dozens of pointless digressions about matters like zombies in Haiti and ruins in Pompeii.

Mr. Clinton confesses that his affair with Monica Lewinsky was "immoral and foolish," but he spends far more space excoriating his nemesis, independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr, and the press. He writes at length about his awareness that terrorism was a growing threat, but does not grapple with the unintended consequences of his administration's decisions to pressure Sudan to expel Osama bin Laden in 1996 (driving sent the al Qaeda leader to Afghanistan, where he was harder to track) or to launch cruise missile attacks against targets in Sudan and Afghanistan in retaliation for the embassy bombings in 1998 (an act that some terrorism experts believe fueled terrorists' conviction that the United States was an ineffectual giant that relied on low-risk high technology).

Part of the problem, of course, is that Mr. Clinton is concerned, here, with cementing or establishing his legacy, while at the same time boosting (or at least not undermining) the political career of his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton. He does a persuasive job of explicating his more successful initiatives like welfare reform and deficit reduction, but the failure of his health care initiative, overseen by Mrs. Clinton, is quickly glossed over, as is the subsequent focus of his administration on such small-bore initiatives as school uniforms and teenage smoking.

Mr. Clinton takes more responsibility in these pages for his affair with Ms. Lewinsky, his lies about that affair and the damage those actions inflicted on his family and his presidency than he has in the past. But he still spends a lot of time like his wife did in her book assailing right-wing enemies for his woes over Whitewater, the Paula Jones case and impeachment. In the end, he says, what brought him and his wife back together was weekly counseling sessions and their shared determination "to fight off the right-wing coup." He sheds little new light on his relationship with Mrs. Clinton, simply noting that he always admired her mix of idealism and practicality, and that she initially hesitated over his marriage proposal, knowing that "being married to me would be a high-wire operation in more ways than one." In another passage, Mr. Clinton tries to characterize his impeachment fight as "my last great showdown with the forces I had opposed all of my life" - with those who had defended segregation in the South, opposed the women's and gay rights movements, and who believed government should be run for the benefit of special interests. He adds that he was glad that he had had "the good fortune to stand against this latest incarnation of the forces of reaction and division."

In comparison to these self-serving, often turgid attempts to defend his reputation, Mr. Clinton's account of his youth in Arkansas possesses a pleasing emotional directness. His portraits of life in the raffish Hot Springs and the more sedate Hope (towns that would became the polestars of his Janus-faced personality, what political guru Dick Morris once called "Saturday Night Bill" and "Sunday Morning Clinton") may lack the raw energy of his mother Virginia Kelley's reminiscences, set down in her 1994 book "Leading With My Heart," but he does provide the reader with some telling snapshots of his awkward childhood: a fat, self-conscious boy dressed in a new Easter outfit every year including, one year, pink and black Hush Puppies and a matching pink suede belt; breaking his leg trying to jump rope wearing cowboy boots; devouring books about Geronimo and Crazy Horse at the local library.

Looking back on those days of living with a violent, abusive stepfather, Mr. Clinton writes like someone familiar with therapeutic tropes. He writes that seeing his stepfather angry and drunk, he came to associate anger with being out of control, and determined to keep his own anger locked away. He writes about experiencing a "major spiritual crisis" at the age of 13, when he found it difficult to sustain a belief in God in the face of his family's difficulties. And he writes about the coping mechanisms he developed including learning to live "parallel lives" where he walled off his anger and grief to get on with his daily life.

Many events recounted in this book have been chronicled before - not just by the dozens of reporters and biographers who have swarmed over Mr. Clinton's life, but by people close to the former president, including his wife, his mother, his brother Roger, Ms. Lewinsky, and former members of his administration like George Stephanopoulos and Robert Reich. For the most part, the self-portrait that emerges from this book is not all that different a Bill Clinton from the one the public has already come to know: tireless, driven, boyish, self-absorbed and optimistic, someone riven by contradictions but adept at compartmentalizing different parts of his life.

Mr. Clinton once remarked that he saw character as "a journey, not a destination," and at the end of this book, he cites "becoming a good person" as one of his life goals. Still, the seeds of his adult self can be glimpsed in an autobiographical essay he wrote in high school: "I am a living paradox deeply religious, yet not as convinced of my exact beliefs as I ought to be; wanting responsibility yet shirking it; loving the truth but often times giving way to falsity." It is only because Mr. Clinton was president of the United States that these excavations of self a staple of celebrity and noncelebrity memoirs these days are considered newsworthy.

The nation's first baby-boomer president always seemed like an avatar of his generation, defined by the struggles of the 60's and Vietnam, comfortable in the use of touchy-feely language, and intent on demystifying his job. And yet the former president's account of his life, read in this post-9/11 day, feels strangely like an artifact from a distant, more innocent era.

Lies about sex and real estate, partisan rancor over "character issues" (not over weapons of mass destruction or pre-emptive war), psychobabble mea culpas, and tabloid wrangles over stained dresses all seem like pressing matters from another galaxy, far, far away.

The kosher scam: I've written about that subject several times. With the recent European Union exemption of kosher food from the new stringent animal rights laws, we need to talk about the kosher scam again. It is also a good refresher for those who have forgotten and an eye opener for those who didn't know.

Many people are completely unaware that they are paying kosher tax whenever they go to the grocery stores. Most find it hard to believe that kosher tax actually exists. Every grocery store shelf in the country has kosher items. Over the years, kosher items are not anymore exclusively food items. Today, you can find laundry detergent, soap, household cleanser, etc. with the little kosher sign.

Once you know the little sign that marks kosher items, you'll find out that more than 50 percent of items in your grocery stores, warehouses, wholesale food outlets, have a tiny little mark of a "K" for kosher or a "U" for the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the "COR" for the Canadian Jewish Congress, the "MK" also Canadian, the "Star K" for the Vaod Hakashrus, the "VKB" for Rabbi Yirmijahu-Rabbinic Administrators, the "Hard K" for the LA Rabbinic Administrators. There are a few more, but we only printed the most common ones to look for.

The huge manufacturers of processed food products in America try to keep a tight lid on the kosher scam. Millions every year are paid to get the kosher approval. The average annual cost for kosher food approval runs around $4,000 for a Mom-and-Pap store and $125,000 every year for a large grocery store, and $1.5 million every year for food moguls like Safeway, Foods-Co, Raley's and Albertsons. More than 200 Rabbis work full-time to make sure the food industry pays their dues to the Jewish community.

Here is briefly how it works: A Rabbi calls a manufacturer and explains that for a certain yearly fee, he will inspect the plant and ensure that the products are being made in accordance with kosher regulations. If the manufacturer does not have the equipment to provide kosher items, the kosher mafia offers to re-outfit their plants with kosher-approved equipment.

Since a single product can have many suppliers for equipment such as cleaning, etc., all the suppliers must be kosher-approved, as well as the suppliers suppliers, and so on. The amount collected in fees has been estimated to be in excess of $100 million yearly in North America alone.

Of course, the manufacturers are not going to pay these out of their pocket, so they turn these over to the supplier and they to the customers. It's nothing but a multi-million dollar rip-off of the American consumer.

You might ask the question, how on earth do they get away with this robbery? The answer: Blackmail! Just like the black civil rights leaders call huge companies and threaten with a lawsuit, unless they hire hundreds of blacks, the Jews do the same. They threaten with anti-Semitism, boycott, and, of course, use their victim status of the holocaust.

The Rabbis even insist that kosher items not be singled out or told to the customers, like many food stores do with ethnic foods.

What is kosher?: The Hebrew word "kosher" means permitted, according to the Torah law.

"Trejhah, a Hebrew term, describing animals found non-kosher due to physical damage or imperfection,"

it is commonly used to describe all foods that are non-kosher. It can be reasonably said that kosher is a Jewish religious ritual, which is set forth in the Torah and the Talmud, the two holy books of the Jews. Kosher items have to meet the requirement of these two holy books. What about separation of church and state?

Kosher becomes much more invasive to your stomach and taste buds when we talk about meat. As you read above, any animal that has been shot or killed any other way then the Talmud requires, is considered non-kosher. The true kosher meat comes from animals that have been slowly bled to death and cleaned of anything but the pure meat. As a chef, I advise not to buy kosher meat. All the good stuff is gone, as well as the nutrients.

Now, why are there items that are not food items, like aluminum foil, cleanser, soap, laundry detergent, coffee, etc. etc. also labeled kosher? No one knows. Greed? Probably, because the Torah and the Talmud never mentioned wrapping paper, laundry detergent or coffee. The kosher racket is just like the holocaust racket. The more money, the better.

The fact is that the use of semi-secret letter symbols violates the truth in advertising and is highly deceptive. It is estimated that the average consumer pays $200 in kosher tax yearly for items labeled kosher. In addition, Jews claim the kosher tax as a deduction on their tax forms.

The solution: Look for the markings above, complain to your grocery store, or make sure you aren't buying kosher products. Another way: Insist to get a list of all kosher items carried at the store you frequent. I requested such a list from Trader Joes. I was provided with that list and know now that Trader Joes offers more than 400 kosher items.

At the recent "G8" meeting in the U.S. state of Georgia, the world at long last heard the official version of the long-awaited political push by the Bush Administration to "democratize" the Mid-East. This following in the wake of the military invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Like it or not, apparently, the sultanates and feudal backwaters of the region are going to be dragged into the 21st Century...kicking and screaming if need be!

As someone who supports the American form of government as spelled out by the Founding Fathers in the U.S. Constitution--a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC--I think it is important for everyone in the region to understand the true nature of this push for "democracy".

Democracy from the Greek means "government by the people". Republic, as originally defined by the Romans, refers to a state of government in which both rulers and government are all subject to a codified and predefined set of laws.

The greatness of the American experiment in republican self government was that it was based on the precept that laws--such as the then-prevalent English Common Law--were based on Biblical injunctions and, hence, derived from God. Man's rights were not given to him by other men, but by God. And governments--even republican ones--had to be strictly constrained from encroaching into the realm of Divine Law. Hence, the U.S. Bill of Rights.

On Nov. 30th, 1928, the U.S. War Department issued its "Manual of Citizenship Training" (TM2000-5, 1928) by order of Secretary of War C.P. Summerall. In it, the U.S. soldiers of the day were told the following about democracy:

"A government of the masses. Authority derived through the mass meeting or any other form of "direct" _expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic--negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy."

(This is a telling indictment of democracy in the U.S. as first implemented after 1933 under Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and leading up to the invasion of Iraq based on "...passion, prejudice and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences"--Ed.)

The U.S. War Dept. did not issue the above instructions in a vacuum. For example, addressing the Constitutional Convention on May 31st, 1787, Edmund Randolph billed the Constitution and its Republican form of government as the cure for "the evils under which the United States labored...evils (as) to their origins every man has found in the turbulence and trials of democracy."

Alexander Hamilton the following year commented that contrary to being the most perfect form of government, democracies "very character was tyranny; their figure deformity...real liberty is never found in despotism or the extremes of Democracy."

(A contemporaneous figure outside the U.S., philosopher Immanuel Kant, stated in 1795 that "democracy is necessarily despotism".)

The famous patriot of the American Revolution, Samuel Adams, warned that "...Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders. There never was a democracy that did not commit suicide."

Article IV, Sec. 4 of the U.S. Constitution, in fact, guarantees that every state in the Republic shall have a REPUBLICAN form of government, reportedly leading one state governor to remark in the 1880s that the main merit of the U.S. Constitution was not that it promotes democracy, but that it checks it.

Future President James Madison's famous Federalist Paper #10--Republic vs. Democracy, The Union as a Safeguard Against Domestic Faction and Insurrection, dated Nov. 23rd, 1787--describes democracies as "spectacles of turbulence and contention...incompatible with personal security or the rights of property."

A non-American, the Duke of Northumberland, may have summed it up best when he reportedly said in 1931 that the adoption of democracy by many European nations was "...fatal to good government, to liberty, to law and order, to respect for authority and religion, and must eventually produce a state of chaos from which a new world tyranny may arise."

Sadly, in the "Greater Mid East" there is such a tyranny waiting in the wings to pick up the pieces of the chaos wrought by "democratization".

What I love about Le Fanu is the psychological complexity of the stories, and his insight into character, especially women: it's a rare male author who truly empathizes with women, and he frequently writes from the female point of view. He's not afraid of true horror and sexuality, very unusual for Victorian times, but he was Irish rather than English, ahead of his time.

ASHLAND -- A police sergeant who allegedly made disparaging remarks about a state police employee was fired last week, a move the union claims was the result of a "witch hunt" led by Police Chief Roy Melnick. Sgt. Roy Testa was fired following a hearing run by the town, according to the police union's attorney, who says Testa was punished for "a passing, humorous comment taken out of context." "We intend to fight this and win, and the town will be facing huge back-pay liability. It has demoralized the Ashland Police Department. People love and respect Roy," said Howard Lenow, the union's attorney. Melnick and Interim Town Manager Dale Morris declined comment about the matter yesterday, saying it is a personnel matter. Morris, according to Lenow, signed off on Testa's firing after the hearing. Selectmen Chairwoman Cassandra Sammons could not be reached for comment.

According to Lenow, the firing stems from an incident that occurred sometime during the spring when a state police chemist and a female trooper were in Ashland working on an investigation. The chemist, who is black, claims that Testa said to him, "'When did the state police start hiring blacks?'" Lenow said. The female officer then replied, "'Right after they started hiring women.'" The chemist, according to Lenow, testified during the disciplinary hearing that he took Testa's comments to be a joke, though he did not think they were appropriate. The female officer also characterized the remark as a joke, Lenow said.

Testa, however, does not remember the comment. He claims he said about the chemist, who was not in uniform at the time, "'Is he really with the state police?'" according to Lenow. Testa, a former Police Officer of the Year in Ashland, did apologize to the chemist and the trooper. Melnick, Lenow said, turned the remarks "into a vendetta to get Roy." "The bottom line is, the current chief, we believe, is terminating Roy not because of what Roy did or did not do but because Roy is part of a group the chief perceives as being disloyal to him," he said.

During the hearing, Lenow said, Melnick admitted he called Ashland Detective Matt Gutwill his "token Jew" and his "token black." Melnick called another officer his "token Jew," though Lenow declined to name the officer. Gutwill, who could not be reached for comment yesterday, is Jewish but is not black. Melnick testified that he thought the remarks were appropriate given his friendship with Gutwill, Lenow said. Lenow described Testa as an exemplary officer who had always received excellent evaluations. Other officers in the department, he said, have not been disciplined for more serious incidents, including fighting at a casino and lying to the police chief.

Israel plays the Kurdish card -- and Americans are caught in the crossfire

The victors in the Iraq war are now moving rapidly to consolidate their gains, and carry out the second phrase of their operation. No, I don't mean the June 30 American handover of pseudo-"sovereignty" to a puppet regime, but the ongoing invasion of Kurdistan by Israeli operatives trying to spark a war of secession. Thanks -- once again -- to the indispensable Seymour Hersh, the truth about what is happening in Iraq -- and why -- is coming out, as the real victors help themselves to the spoils of war. While American troops are fighting and dying to maintain the independence and unity of the Iraqi state, the Israelis, operating behind our backs and in the shadows, are working to split the country up:

"In a series of interviews in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, officials told me that by the end of last year Israel had concluded that the Bush Administration would not be able to bring stability or democracy to Iraq, and that Israel needed other options. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government decided, I was told, to minimize the damage that the war was causing to Israel's strategic position by expanding its long-standing relationship with Iraq's Kurds and establishing a significant presence on the ground in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan. Several officials depicted Sharon's decision, which involves a heavy financial commitment, as a potentially reckless move that could create even more chaos and violence as the insurgency in Iraq continues to grow."

Gee, I thought Israel had nothing to do with this war, and that anyone who said otherwise was merely spreading anti-Semitic canards. Why, in that case, does Israel need "other options," or, indeed, any options at all?

This war was always about enhancing Israel's strategic position, and nothing else [AS ONLY "NAZIS" AND ISRAELIS THEMSELVES SAID FROM THE START; US IN PUBLIC, THEM IN PRIVATE]: not oil, not democracy, not WMD. The goal was to extend Israeli's sphere of influence, and that is precisely what is occurring. To the victor goes the spoils, and Hersh's revelations highlight the Israelis as real winners of this war:

"Israeli intelligence and military operatives are now quietly at work in Kurdistan, providing training for Kurdish commando units [AS ALWAYS, THIS TRAINING WILL BLOW BACK ON IZZY] and, most important in Israel's view, running covert operations inside Kurdish areas of Iran and Syria. Israel feels particularly threatened by Iran, whose position in the region has been strengthened by the war. The Israeli operatives include members of the Mossad, Israel's clandestine foreign-intelligence service, who work undercover in Kurdistan as businessmen and, in some cases, do not carry Israeli passports."

I love how the issue is framed in Hersh's piece: the Israelis advised us to seal the Iraqi borders against Iranian infiltration, we are told, and warned that the violence was bound to increase. As if only they could have predicted the altogether predictable. What geniuses! A former top Administration official cites his Israeli counterparts as saying: "You're not going to get it right in Iraq, and shouldn't we be planning for the worst-case scenario and how to deal with it?"

In other words: if you're not going to install Ahmed Chalabi and his gang -- who promised to recognize Israel and even build an oil pipeline from Mosul to Haifa -- and you won't do to the Iraqis what we're doing to the Palestinians, then we'll just have to take matters into our own hands.

By arming Kurdish commando (i.e. terrorist) units, and launching provocative incursions, the long arm of Israel is reaching out to jab Syria and Iran -- and stab the U.S. in the back. They did it, so we are supposed to understand, more in sorrow than in anger -- after all, they warned us, didn't they?

What chutzpah!

Desperate to maintain a semblance of stability amid increasing chaos, U.S. viceroy Paul Bremer is trying to maintain a delicate balancing act between the Shi'ite Muslim majority, which longs for an Iranian-style Islamic "republic," and the various non-Arab minority groups, notably the Kurds in the north, who demand autonomy, and, in some cases, independence. The Kurds managed to win concessions from Bremer and the interim government, but with the June 30 transfer looming, tried to get these incorporated in the UN resolution -- and failed. In response, the two main Kurdish leaders sent an open letter to the Americans and their Iraqi clients, threatening to pull out of the deal entirely and unilaterally declare Kurdistan's independence.

It is in this context that the Israelis initiated what they call "Plan B": sneaking into Kurdish territory, arming dissident Kurdish factions, and actively undermining the American strategy. Israeli support for the Kurds is nothing new: in alliance with the Shah of Iran, Tel Aviv sought to undermine Ba'athist rule in Iraq by financing and shipping arms to Kurdish rebels, abandoning them when it was no longer convenient. The rationale for starting up the old relationship again, as explained by a senior CIA official to Hersh, is as follows:

"'They think they have to be there.' Asked whether the Israelis had sought approval from Washington, the official laughed and said, 'Do you know anybody who can tell the Israelis what to do? They're always going to do what is in their best interest.'"

Too bad we can't say the same for the Americans. While U.S. soldiers are fighting and dying for the lost cause of Iraqi "democracy," the real beneficiaries of this war are doing their best to make sure that chaos reigns -- and we're caught in the crossfire. Violence is already on the uptick in northern Iraq, including reports of armed conflict between U.S soldiers and Kurdish peshmergas. Assassinations and sabotage are taking place almost daily -- amid the continuing ethnic cleansing of Arabs and Turks from the area, carried out by Kurdish militants with American acquiescence. According to this Knight-Ridder report, Paul Harvey, Bremer's man in Kirkuk, avers the anti-Arab pogrom is entirely justified because:

"They have every right to do so. It's a frontier spirit here. This is their land and they're rebuilding."

But now that the Kurds are once again complaining that they've been "betrayed," U.S. forces are under siege -- but from whom? Gee, I dunno: perhaps the same terrorists who killed a prominent Turkmen politician and evicted 100,000 Iraqi Arabs from their land. Or maybe it was the same guys who did this. It's that Kurdish "frontier spirit."

The target of a recent car bomb attack in the mostly Arab city of Mosul in northern Iraq, Mayor Salem al-Hadj Isa, escaped unharmed, but 10 people were killed and over 100 wounded. The same day, a car bomb shook the northern Iraqi city of Baqouba, near the former Iraqi air force base of al-Faris, now occupied by U.S. troops, killing at least 4 Iraqis and one U.S. soldier, with 16 Iraqis and 10 Americans wounded.

Empowered by the influx of Israeli assistance, training, and arms, growing anti-American sentiment among radical Kurdish nationalists could lead to open warfare, directed not only at their ethnic rivals but also at U.S. troops, the ultimate guarantors of the post-June 30 order.

Habitually blaming all violence in Iraq on the influx of "foreign fighters," Bush administration spokesmen may be telling us more than they mean to say. In the days before Saddam's capture, and for months afterward, all violence directed at coalition military assets was identified as the work of Ba'athist "remnants. These days, however, the culprits are increasingly described as these mysterious "foreign fighters," generally taken to be Al Qaeda and its Islamist allies. But now there's a new "foreign" factor at work -- the Israelis.

If you look at a map of what the pershmerga claim as "Kurdistan," a huge swath of territory that snakes through every country in the northern core of the Middle East, it clearly resembles a very long fuse -- just waiting to be lit. Now that our friends, the Israelis, have struck a match, it's only a matter of time before we witness the resulting explosion.

The Israeli justification for embarking on this dangerous course, as reported by Hersh, is that their "strategic position" is being undermined by U.S. bungling of the occupation, and if that doesn't expose them as the ultimate ingrates of all time then nothing will. We were dragged into this occupation, after all, by Israel's amen corner in Washington, as General Anthony Zinni, the former commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East put it:

"'Certainly those in your ranks that foisted this strategy on us that is flawed. Certainly they ought to be gone and replaced.'

"Zinni is talking about a group of policymakers within the administration known as 'the neo-conservatives' who saw the invasion of Iraq as a way to stabilize American interests in the region and strengthen the position of Israel. ...Zinni believes they are political ideologues who have hijacked American policy in Iraq.

"'I think it's the worst kept secret in Washington. That everybody -- everybody I talk to in Washington has known and fully knows what their agenda was and what they were trying to do.'"

Intelligence expert James Bamford also knows what the neocons were trying to do, and offers further evidence of an Israeli connection to the phony "intelligence" that lied us into war. [ALWAYS JEWS LIE -- ALWAYS] The "blueprint for war," he writes, had been drawn up long ago by pro-Israeli hawks in the highest foreign policy councils of the U.S. government: all they required was a "pretext for war," hence the title of Bamford's bestselling new book. Working through the Office of Special Plans, a Pentagon unit set up by Pentagon policy secretary Douglas Feith, the War Party in this country "forged close ties to a parallel, ad hoc intelligence unit within Ariel Sharon's office in Israel," that "was designed to go around the country's own intelligence organization, Mossad."

Having manipulated the hapless Americans into an unwinnable war, are the Israelis now amping up the violence by organizing such terroristic groups as the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), in spite of their own role in turning the group's leader over to the Turks? The PKK has recently declared an end to their "unilateral ceasefire," a course previously urged on them by the captive Abdullah Ocalan. That this occurred just as news of Israel's infiltration and "support" to the Kurds began to leak out, is, of course, pure coincidence.

This latest development underscores the upside-down "logic" of our Iraqi adventure, which seems to be taking place in some sort of Bizarro World alternate universe, where everything is turned into its opposite. The war in Iraq, as Professor Paul W. Schroeder pointed out in a footnote (not online) to a piece in The American Conservative,

"Would represent something to my knowledge unique in history. It is common for great powers to try to fight wars by proxy, getting smaller powers to fight for their interests. This would be the first instance I know where a great power (in fact, a superpower) would do the fighting as the proxy of a small client state."

As Israeli agents flood Kurdistan with arms and ill intent, Professor Schroeder's thesis acquires another surprising element: it would be the first instance that I know of where a superpower, after fighting a proxy war on behalf of a pipsqueak client, is kicked directly in the teeth by its ingrate of an "ally."

The origins of modern psychosurgery are to be found in the last decades of the 19th century, when science was beginning to understand how the human mind and behavior could be mapped out into the anatomical features of the brain. A German scientist named Friederich Golz, doing experiments with the surgical ablation of neocortex in dogs, reported in 1890 that when the temporal lobe were removed, animals were more tame and calmer than the unoperated ones. This inspired Gottlieb Burkhardt, a physician and supervisor of an insane asylum in Switzerland, to perform in 1892 an operation to remove parts of the cortex of six schizophrenic patients which had hallucinations and became very agitated because of this. Some of his patients actually became calmer after the surgery, but we don't know whether this was a direct effect of the surgery (two of them died). Al Goldstein, the Pompano Beach pornographer who had his formerly rotund stomach stapled, was inspecting something he hasn't seen much of in the past decade. ''It's bigger than I thought,'' he said. He was, thankfully, talking about his house, a bulging monument to ego and eccentricity, and home to the infamous ''Finger'' -- an 11-foot hand on the pool deck rudely gesturing to passing Intracoastal boaters. ''It's 80 percent empty,'' he moaned as movers loaded seven vans with such excess as five satellite dishes, 900 pairs of shoes, thousands of cigars and one dominatrix mannequin. ''I'm having a breakdown,'' he reported. Broward County's favorite loudmouth smut peddler -- publisher of defunct Screw magazine -- has decamped for Florida's Gulf Coast. His company, Milky Way Productions, went bankrupt last year, forcing the sale of Casa de Al and pushing him into a career switch. Goldstein, 68, plans on directing adult films for now, even though ``it's a turnoff, but that's where I have value. And what can I do that's new? Midgets? Pregnant women?''

THE END FOR HOUSE

His 10,000-square-foot hacienda became a landmark in 1996 when he installed the upraised middle digit. Now, Pittsburgh investors who paid $1.8 million plan to bulldoze the place and build two McMansions. Last week, strangers roamed his house and handled his stuff, traumatic for an obsessive-compulsive. He fled to a bedroom with antidepressants and ice cream, to fondle his remotes and fixate on Court TV. ''He can't part with anything,'' complained his fifth wife, Christine Ava Maharaj. My lawyer said, `Let's cancel.' ''

Rick Anderson, the Balistreri Realty agent who sold the house, said he prepared prospects for ``the particular taste of Mr. Goldstein.'' He was ''very cooperative about removing some of the more flagrant articles,'' Anderson added, diplomatically. ``I advised people not to bring small children.'' In Broward, Goldstein's antics got as much attention as The Finger, which he took with him. In 1992, he ran for sheriff wooing voters with a bumper sticker reading, 'Sheriff Al says, `Fight Crime; Shoot Back.' '' In December 2002, SWAT teams swarmed Casa de Al after a heavily armed and deeply depressed hooker barricaded herself in his guesthouse.

Days later, police at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport yanked Goldstein off an American Airlines flight for making sexually suggestive comments to a security worker. Goldstein, in a fog of anxiety and denial, has left relocation logistics to his wife, a British-born psychology student 40 years his junior. She plans a career in sex therapy: ``I want to be the next Dr. Ruth.''

They met two years ago when she was writing a paper on narcissism for a master's program at New York's Pace University, Goldstein's alma mater. They married in January, during an adult entertainment expo in Las Vegas. Best man: porn star and old friend Ron Jeremy. Maharaj sent most of Goldstein's stuff to storage, taking to the new place only things ``that normal people would have.'' 'How can you have `normal' when I'm in the picture?'' Goldstein wondered.

OUT OF BUSINESS

Goldstein's New York-based empire of raunch and rage crumbled last fall. Internet porn, competition from the freebie Village Voice and problems with his ''Mafia distributor,'' as he put it, shut down Screw after 34 years. Then Time Warner Cable pulled the plug on his late-night slimefest, Midnight Blue, for nonpayment. Milky Way owes creditors nearly $1 million, about the same amount he owed on the house. Warran Graham, attorney for the New York bankruptcy trustee, is trying to sell Screw archives and Midnight Blue masters. So far, no takers. Goldstein claims he has been reduced to living on $1,630-a-month Social Security checks, and loans from friends, including $7,800 from comrade-in-porn Larry Flynt. He used to spend that much a week on toys, electronics, lobster dinners for 20 friends and by-the-hour sex. The bankruptcy trustee is allowing him $300,000 from the home sale to start over in a city Goldstein won't name, claiming he wants a low profile. There's a slim chance anyone will recognize him -- at least until he opens his mouth. Goldstein's blubbery bulk used to make him instantly recognizable to Screw and Midnight Blue fans. In June 2003, he underwent gastric-bypass surgery after finding himself ''disgusting'' in a porn video. He dropped from 350 to 175 pounds -- a shock to anyone familiar with his gargantuan appetites.

NO SOAPBOX

Now, he is clearly struggling with something else that has shockingly shrunk: his power and influence. He is an exuberant bully who has lost his bully pulpit, Screw's editorial page. Screw began as a gritty sex/politics/satire tabloid born of the '60s counterculture. Goldstein continually fought First Amendment battles and was arrested 21 times on obscenity charges. But he hung on, and the magazine became a small but important brick in the foundation of America's porn industry.

Plastered with grainy, hard-core photos and supported by hooker ads, it also gave Goldstein a forum for eviscerating anyone who displeased him. He mourns that loss as much as the house. ''There are so many people I want to attack, criticize and destroy verbally, and I don't have a soapbox,'' he complained. ``But I can sue now and then.'' Goldstein is ''a complete lunatic about his enemies,'' notes Charles Di Stefano, the New York lawyer who defended him in two harassment cases -- one of an ex-wife, one of an ex-secretary, both of whom he savaged in print and on the phone.

He lost the secretary case, though an appeals court overturned the conviction. He got three years of probation after copping a plea in the ex-wife case. In February, he defaulted in a Broward defamation suit brought by a former BrandsMart USA manager. Trial for damages is set for September. Goldstein sees himself as a disappearing breed of pioneering flesh peddlers. ``Bob Guccione, a true artist, is bankrupt and has throat cancer. Larry Flynt has two bullets in him. [Hugh] Hefner didn't grow, though you've got to give him credit. ``But I'm a survivor and I changed the obscenity laws. The battle for pornography is won. And every issue of Screw, I'm proud of. It's like a child.''

SALEM -- A recent spate of hate literature distributed in Salem and Hudson has raised concern with a national organization.

[WHAT IS HATE? I MEAN, SIMPLE QUESTION, BUT SERIOUSLY: WHAT IS HATE? WHO SAYS? HATE IS A POLITICAL POSITION TAKEN BY FOLKS IN THE SHADOWS WHO GO UNNNAMED BY THE REPORTERS WHOSE PAPERS THEY CONTROL.]

"Words of hate, if left to fester, can undermine the trust and confidence that binds people together," said Rob Leikind, New England Director for the Anti-Defamation League. "The true character of a community is not measured by the fact that hate incidents happen, but rather how the community responds to them."

Police Chief Paul Donovan said residents in the area of Mathias Street received literature from a group called The White Revolution Sunday morning. The three-page flier was rolled up and secured with an elastic then tossed into people's driveways sometime during the night. It listed a number of questions like, "Are you a white man or white woman made to feel ashamed of the achievements of your ancestors? . . . Are you outraged by the non-white invasion of your country?" It also invited new members to join by inquiring through a post office box in Haverhill, Mass.

In Hudson, Sgt. Detective Bill Avery said some residents reported to police that they received similar literature. "We started to get a couple of calls in the morning complaining about the literature and our officers went over to the area and picked up all the papers they could find," Avery said. He said police collected about 10 one-page fliers. In both towns, the literature was distributed by members of The White Revolution, based in Russellville, Ark. Both Salem and Hudson police said there is nothing criminal about distributing such literature.

Bill Roper, of Russellville, former head of the National Alliance, said during a telephone interview yesterday his group is non-violent and defended the literature. "First amendment free speech rights are not acts of terrorism," Roper said. He said two generations ago, such literature would not have been so shocking as it is viewed today. Roper said his organization's work in the Granite State, where many communities have low numbers of minorities, is to "show them (the residents in the communities) what they hope they don't lose. "We are trying to raise racial conciousness," Roper said. "We are doing that with literature distributions just like African Americans did in the racial struggles they faced in the 1960s." Roper said he sees communities in New Hampshire serving as "a model" for the rest of the country. He said Granite Staters should be watching the national news to see what life is like in urban areas like Chicago and Los Angeles. "Then they can see how life in New Hampshire contrasts to life in those places, and what they could lose," Roper said. "There is an invasion (of non-whites) in America. We have to face the facts."

The organization's Web site lists a New Hampshire contact. There's more local news in today's Derry-Londonderry edition, the hometown daily paper for those two towns, plus Chester, Sandown, Danville, Hampstead, Plaistow, Atkinson, Salem, Windham and Pelham. Police said although many residents found the literature offensive, it is not criminal. "It's more annoying than anything," said Donovan. "People were just more upset that someone would come in to town and stick something like that in their driveway." Police in Salem and Hudson said they plan to keep the literature and information for "intelligence-gathering purposes" and will watch for future activities.

On March 30, the night before Air America went on the air, the liberal radio network threw itself a $70,000 party at Manhattan's hip Maritime Hotel. More than 1,000 guests, including Yoko Ono and Tim Robbins, drank red, white and blue vodka cocktails as they toasted the network's bid to challenge the dominance of conservative talk radio.

But behind the scenes, Air America was running out of money. Today several employees say they still haven't been reimbursed for the costs of attending the New York launch. "It was a fun party, until I knew I was paying for it," says Bob Visotcky, Air America's former Los Angeles market manager, who hasn't been reimbursed for his hotel room and flight.

Mr. Visotcky wasn't the only insider in the dark about the company's problems. Many of Air America's investors and executives say they thought the network had raised more than $30 million, based on assurances from its owners, Guam-based entrepreneurs Evan M. Cohen and Rex Sorensen. In fact, Air America had raised only $6 million, Mr. Cohen concedes. Within six weeks of the launch, those funds had been spent and the company owed creditors more than $2 million.

When the problems came to light, "we realized that we had all been duped," says David Goodfriend, the company's acting chief operating officer. Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen say they didn't mislead anyone about the company's finances. They say they planned to invest more over time but didn't because of cultural differences with other managers. Both resigned in early May. Five months before a presidential election, Air America should be on a roll. Instead, it's grappling with a financial crisis. Creditors are lined up at the door, and it is off the air in two big markets, Los Angeles and Chicago. Air America's left-leaning orientation gave the fledging network a public profile and helped lure donors, including RealNetworks Inc.'s Chief Executive Rob Glaser and New York's Durst family of real-estate developers. It also helped attract big-name talent, including comedian Al Franken. Amid the hype, however, investors and executives overlooked Air America's haphazard organization, opaque finances and flawed business strategy. Trying to make a big political splash, Air America embarked on an ambitious and costly plan to get radio-station owners to carry the network's entire 24-hour lineup. Typically, networks allow stations to pick the shows they want, and both sides share the advertising revenue. Air America got its way in smaller markets. In big cities, Air America agreed to pay for airtime, which ultimately cost more than it could afford.

"When you believe you're doing work for the greater good, you don't question as much," says Javier Saade, a former Air America executive vice president. "People never questioned the curves and obstacles on the road. People just said, 'We're on the road.' "

Company executives now say the business is stabilizing. They note that the network's early ratings have been positive, and its business plan has been restructured. The company has received enough cash from investors to stay afloat, and it is negotiating with its creditors. Air America is "on track" to meet its financial goals, says Doug Kreeger, Air America's current chief executive.

Air America was conceived by a wealthy Chicago couple, Anita and Sheldon Drobny. Mr. Drobny is a venture capitalist and liberal activist who writes an occasional column for a Web site that has compared Republican control of Congress and the White House to the Nazis' rise to power in Germany.

After some unsuccessful fund-raising efforts, the Drobnys met Mr. Cohen in the spring of 2003 through a meeting brokered by Mr. Goodfriend, a former Clinton aide who was interested in the radio concept. Mr. Goodfriend, 36 years old, and Mr. Cohen, 37, attended Beloit College in Wisconsin together. Mr. Cohen teamed up with Mr. Sorensen, 58, a business partner and the founder of Sorensen Pacific Broadcasting Inc., a network of five radio stations in Guam and Saipan. The two men agreed to buy the concept from the Drobnys for about $1 million, according to four people familiar with the transaction. The Drobnys haven't yet been paid. Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen say payment was based on performance milestones that haven't been met. In Guam, where he was born, Mr. Cohen was involved in a number of ventures at least some of which were unsuccessful, including a publishing company, an ad agency and a market research firm. He says the businesses were hurt by the Asian economic crisis of the late 1990s.

Joe Calvo, the general manager of Guam's Pacific Telestations Inc., which owns TV and radio stations, says Mr. Cohen's defunct ad agency owes him $20,000. Mark Pangalinan, president of Guam conglomerate M.V. Pangalinan Enterprises, says the same ad company owes his real-estate division four years in rent; it also owes another division several years' worth of employee health-insurance premiums. Mr. Cohen denies owing both companies money. Mr. Goodfriend says he thought Mr. Cohen was a successful businessman and says he was unaware of these disputes.

In October, Mr. Goodfriend introduced Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen to a potential chief executive. Mark Walsh, a 50-year-old former America Online Inc. executive, had run an e-commerce site called Verticalnet Inc., which was briefly one of the highest-flying dot-com stocks with a peak value of $12.4 billion. More recently, Mr. Walsh headed Internet operations for John Kerry's presidential campaign.

Mr. Walsh says he asked Mr. Cohen for proof of his assets. The entrepreneur showed Mr. Walsh documents that Mr. Cohen represented as real-estate and cash holdings valued at millions of dollars, Mr. Walsh says. Mr. Cohen denies saying the assets were his alone. He says the documents combined his assets with those of Mr. Sorensen and another business partner, Brooklyn real-estate developer Charles Cara.

Mr. Walsh says he was impressed by Mr. Cohen's "seductive" account of his battle with cancer. Mr. Cohen told Mr. Walsh and others that he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2001 only to make a miraculous recovery that spurred him to devote his life to liberal causes. This new radio network, "represented the confluence of business pragmatism and social progressiveness that I wanted for my second chance in life," Mr. Cohen wrote in a fund-raising letter to television journalist Bill Moyers, who didn't invest.

Mr. Walsh became chief executive of a holding company called Progress Media that owned two other entities. One company was set up to create programming and another was designed to buy radio stations.

Air America's purchasing arm struggled to buy radio stations in major markets -- where few big stations were interested in turning over their entire airtime to Air America. But most major market stations were too expensive and the network's $36 million credit line hadn't come through. So the network eventually had to sign costly leasing deals to buy airtime. The expense of the leases, which have largely fallen out of favor in the radio industry, helped deplete Air America's operating cash.

Rick Cummings, president of the radio division at Emmis Communications Corp., one of the nation's biggest station owners, had brief talks with Air America. But he didn't want to dedicate an entire station to its shows, as the network requested. "They quickly realized there were a lot of things they didn't know, and one was how to do radio," says Mr. Cummings.

Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen were meanwhile raising money for their programming arm. They told potential backers they would put $12 million of their own money in the venture, according to two investors and Messrs. Walsh and Saade, who attended many pitches. Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen also told investors and employees they had raised $18 million from individual donors, these people say.

Norman Wain, a Cleveland radio entrepreneur, says Mr. Cohen told him that Air America already had $30 million in the bank. Mr. Wain says he was told that his contribution would not be used until a separate round of financing was completed.

Messrs. Walsh and Saade say Mr. Cohen told them that TV producer Norman Lear had given Air America $2 million and pledged another $2 million. They also say Mr. Cohen told them that Laurie David, wife of comedian Larry David, had invested $2 million and pledged another $4 million.

Buoyed by the good news, Mr. Walsh told reporters on a March 11 conference call that the network was "well on our way" to raising "upward of $30 million" by its planned March 31 launch.

In fact, Mr. Lear and Ms. David were approached by Mr. Cohen but didn't invest, their spokespeople say. The amount raised totaled only $6 million, Mr. Cohen and Air America executives agree. Mr. Cohen denies telling Messrs. Walsh and Saade about investments from the two Hollywood bigwigs and denies misleading Mr. Wain and other investors about the fund-raising efforts. He says anyone who thought the deals had gone through were not in the loop. Mr. Cohen says he told investors and others at the company he would invest "up to $12 million" through a partnership that included himself, his brother, Mr. Sorensen and Mr. Cara, the real-estate developer. Mr. Cohen says they invested more than $1 million in the company and intended to put in more. Mr. Cohen says he told investors and executives that the bulk of the $12 million would come from Mr. Cara.

Mr. Cara says in an interview he was willing to invest up to $12 million but held off when Mr. Cohen ran into problems at the radio network. Mr. Walsh says he doesn't recall Mr. Cohen mentioning Mr. Cara.

Mr. Sorensen, in an e-mail response to questions from a reporter, said: "In all our discussions in private placement documents we listed our LLC with Charlie [Cara] as the funding source being used to further fund the company. This was not hidden in any way."

Meanwhile, the network was starting to create a buzz. Advertising salespeople lined up $700,000 in commitments before the network even started, a former advertising executive at the network says. The war in Iraq and the pending election had fiercely polarized national politics. Personal animosity toward President Bush seemed as intense as the antipathy once aimed at Bill Clinton, an anger that did much to feed the explosion in conservative radio.

The network's lineup included Mr. Franken, a former "Saturday Night Live" writer and performer turned best-selling author of liberal tomes. Also on board were actress Janeane Garofalo and rapper Chuck D. Air America leased stations in the top three radio markets: New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Its high-profile launch party gave the network a big publicity boost. But bills weren't getting paid. Mr. Visotcky, the former Los Angeles market manager, says he discovered in March the company hadn't paid the rent on its office space there. He lost his job later when Air America was kicked off the air in that city. Mr. Cohen says the rent wasn't paid because of a contractual dispute. In April, vendors stopped delivering office supplies because they weren't getting paid and contractors, such as electricians, complained their checks weren't arriving.

One of the network's on-air personalities, Randi Rhodes, formerly of WJNO in West Palm Beach, Fla., opened her own checkbook when her staff wasn't paid. Ms. Rhodes says she found "a group that was running the place that was absolutely not up to it." The New York studio had no air conditioning and some technical equipment didn't work. In its first few days, the network sometimes sputtered off the air.

Mr. Cohen concedes the company should have had tighter financial controls and blames the cash crunch on perks such as car services. Mr. Sorensen says he's "not aware of any bill over 60 days [past due] or any employee whose payroll was not immediately dealt with, if there was an issue." Mr. Walsh says Mr. Sorensen, who was acting chief financial officer, and Mr. Cohen, who was chairman, wouldn't give him control of the checkbook or allow him a look at the financial books. Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen say Mr. Walsh had access to the company's financial documents.

When he returned home to Washington after the launch, Mr. Walsh left a voicemail for Mr. Cohen criticizing the company's lax financial controls and poor organization. Mr. Cohen responded in a three-page letter, dated April 7: "I had expected you to be in constant, close contact with Rex & me, discern what our priorities were, take on the 'family business' culture that we have used successfully in the past, and execute accordingly," Mr. Cohen wrote. "For whatever reason, and it really doesn't matter why, that just did not happen."

Unable to resolve their differences, Mr. Walsh quit on April 12, but his departure wasn't announced for a few weeks. Mr. Goodfriend, who had been the company's legal counsel, was named acting chief operating officer. Mr. Cohen took on the responsibilities of CEO.

At that time, Air America's leasing deals in Los Angeles and Chicago began to fall apart. Air America had bought time on KBLA and WNTD from MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc. but the two companies battled over interpretation of the contract.

The dispute boiled over when MultiCultural locked Air America out of its studios and kicked it off the airwaves in Chicago and Los Angeles. An Air America employee wrote on the network's Web site that MultiCultural's Chief Executive Arthur Liu was a "Liu-ser" and "Liu-cifer" and that Air America was "chasing him down with a pipe wrench."

Air America sued in New York Supreme Court and a judge ordered MultiCultural to put it back on the air in Chicago, where Air America had made more payments, through April, but not in Los Angeles. After that ruling expired, the two companies couldn't come to terms and Air America was off the air in both cities.

As the network tried to repair the damage, it was also fighting with Mr. Franken over how his salary was paid. As the network's star, Mr. Franken had negotiated a pay package valued at more than $1 million a year, according to a copy of the contract viewed by The Wall Street Journal. On the evening of April 26, Mr. Goodfriend says he was asked by Mr. Cohen to show Mr. Franken a deposit slip that would prove he'd been paid a portion of his salary. Mr. Cohen says he only asked Mr. Goodfriend to negotiate with Mr. Franken. The next day, Mr. Goodfriend went to Mr. Franken's Manhattan apartment to meet Mr. Franken's wife, who manages her husband's finances. Over the Frankens' kitchen table, the two tore open an envelope sent over by Mr. Cohen that they thought was going to contain proof of the payment. All they found was a stack of irrelevant documents.

Mr. Goodfriend, who had no access to the company's finances, says he had previously chalked up the network's snafus to growing pains. Now, he worried that Air America had less money than he thought. Mr. Goodfriend started investigating and called an emergency telephone board meeting to quiz Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen about Mr. Franken's salary and other financial issues. Mr. Goodfriend had an outside attorney listen in.

Over the next few days, the pair from Guam talked to company lawyers, executives and investors. After hearing what they considered unsatisfactory answers, the investors called a meeting on May 5 at Air America's Park Avenue headquarters. They asked Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen to resign and hand over voting control of their shares to Mr. Goodfriend, according to three people familiar with the negotiations.

After the meeting, Air America executives examined the company's finances. "When we finally gained access to the bank accounts, we realized they were empty," Mr. Saade says. Mr. Cohen denies the bank accounts were empty although he concedes there wasn't much money left.

Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen say they were asked to resign because of cultural differences with other managers. Neither would be more specific. "There was no longer any support for Rex and I, so as investors, why would we continue to go forward?" Mr. Cohen says. He adds they deserve credit for their efforts. "We built something from nothing," he says.

Mr. Goodfriend, who says he was exhausted by the turmoil, also resigned but agreed to stay until the end of May.

Air America's investors created a new company, Piquant LLC, which bought the assets of the old company, named a new CEO and simplified its business plan. Rather than buying stations or leasing time, Air America is following a more conventional route, allowing local stations to pick up portions of the lineup. It's on the air in New York and 14 other markets including Portland, Ore., and Chapel Hill, N.C.

In a startup, says Mr. Franken, people often exaggerate what they have. Mr. Cohen, he says, "did just that, and somehow got us on the air. For that, I guess I owe him some gratitude."

Every one of these words, and many more, can in one way or another be construed as insulting to whatever group or individual they are directed at. Their use can also lead to lost jobs and promotions, destroyed reputations, public ostracization, fines or civil/criminal penalties and jail. Depending on the circumstances and who says them of course. Talk about confusing, not to mention the double standard that is established.

These rules only appear to apply if you happen to be non-liberal, non-black, non-female and non-gay. Of course, if you happen to be black or white, male or female, gay or straight and have a conservative viewpoint, then these rules apply to you also. If you are a member of a group that these words can be considered derogatory to, then these words are okay to use within that group, whether they are meant to be "hurtful" or not.

The biggest example of this blatant double standard however is the treatment certain individuals receive, or better yet do not receive, from the major media for uttering these words.

As long as you are a member of a "favored" or "correct" group, such as Democrat, black/female/gay (as long as you have the correct thought process), environmentalist, etc.; you can say just about anything and not have the media, or any other group, call you to task for it.

These are just a very few examples of statements by "right thinking," "inclusive" liberals the media has given a pass to:

"You f---ing Jew bastard!" - Hillary Clinton, to her husband's campaign manager after he lost a gubernatorial race.

"It's not 'spic' or 'nigger' anymore. They say, 'Let's cut taxes.'" - Howard Rangel, referring to Republicans.

"Hymies," "Hymie-town" - Jessie Jackson, referring to Jewish people and New York City, respectively.

"White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it" - Rev. Al Sharpton

"We're not goin' to let the white boys win this (2000) election" - Al Gore campaign manager Donna Brazil - referring to the Republican Party.

"Gooks" - John McCain, liberal Republican and media favorite, used numerous times referring to his North Vietnamese captors during his Presidential campaign against George W. Bush.

"A handkerchief-head, chicken-and-biscuit-eating Uncle Tom" - Spike Lee, referring to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

"A virulent Oreo phenomenon, a punk-ass and an Uncle Tom calamity" - author June Jordan, referring to Clarence Thomas.

"A new breed of Uncle Tom and some of the biggest liars the world ever saw" - Former NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Hooks, referring to Black Conservatives.

"When white folks can't defeat you, they'll always find some Negro, some boot-licking, butt-licking, bamboozled, half-baked, half-fried, sissified, punkfied (sic), pasteurized, homogenized Nigger that they can trot out in front of you" -- Khalid Abdul Mohammad, Nation of Islam & New Black Panther Party.

"I want to go up to the closest white person and say, 'You can't understand this, it's a black thing' and then slap him, just for my mental health" - Charles Barron, a New York City councilman at a reparations rally in 2002.

Can you imagine the firestorm of protest and outrage that would have ensued if any of these statements were made by, oh say, anybody other than liberals/Democrats? We'd never hear the end of it. It would be rehashed every time that person's name came up.

The U.S. Constitution guarantees equal protection under the law, for everyone. Now, we find that some are more equal than others. And the list of "more equals" seems to grow daily. You are the leaders of tomorrow. You will have to deal with the results of what is happening today. Is this the type of country you want to inherit when your time comes? One in which the Constitution has been trashed? One in which you can be imprisoned for "thought crimes"? What you do today, in words and deeds, will determine the answer to that question. Whether you agree with me or not, you have the power to influence the course this country takes. Use it. Vote.

So after assassinating Mr. Bull they turned their attention to Saddam Hussein's Iraq and that is why we have repeatedly pursued war with Iraq.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A book by an anonymous CIA (news official titled "Imperial Hubris," describes Iraq and Afghanistan (news - web sites ) as two "failed half-wars" that have played into the enemy's hands and complicated the war on terrorism, reports said.

The 309-page book was written by a still serving Central Intelligence Agency (news - web sites ) officer who from 1996 to 1999 headed a special office to track Osama bin Laden (news - web sites ) and who, in the book, is identified only as Anonymous, said the New York Times which obtained a copy of the book.

In a highly unusual move allowing the publication of a book on a politically explosive topic, the CIA vetted the book to ensure it included no classified information, and a CIA official asked the daily not to reveal the identity of its author -- a former CIA official identified him -- because he could become a target of bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, the daily said.

In criticism directed both at US President George W. Bush (news - web sites ) and his predecessor Bill Clinton (news - web sites ), the author of the book says US leaders "refuse to accept the obvious". "We are fighting a worldwide Islamic insurgency -- not criminality or terrorism -- and our policy and procedures have failed to make more than a modest dent in enemy forces," he said.

He said the threat from radical Islam is rooted in opposition not to American values, but to policies and actions, particularly in the Islamic world.

The book denounces the US occupation of Iraq as "an avaricious, premeditated unprovoked war against a foe who posed no immediate threat," and said it would fuel the anti-American sentiments on which bin Laden and his followers draw. "There is nothing that bin Laden could have hoped for more than the American invasion and occupation of Iraq," the author writes.

In warning that the United States is losing the war on terrorism, Anonymous writes: "In the period since 11 September, the United States has dealt lethal blows to Al Qaeda's leadership and -- if official claims are true -- have captured 3,000 Al Qaeda foot soldiers. "At the same time, we have waged two failed half-wars and, in doing so, left Afghanistan and Iraq seething with anti-U.S. sentiment, fertile grounds for the expansion of Al Qaeda and kindred groups." Anonymous said he has "a pressing certainty that Al Qaeda will attack the continental United States again, that its next strike will be more damaging than that of 11 September 2001, and could include use of weapons of mass destruction."

Nice try, but if they tricked the American Legion hall they booked for this, that's actionable and there is nothing like an American Legion lawyer ripping you a new one, especially if you are a Nazi.

Irving has some more appearences in the States, so if he is coming to your town, make him feel most unwelcome. A Hofstra University student was abducted at gunpoint near the campus, raped, sodomized and brutally beaten during an agonizing five-hour ordeal, police said yesterday. The 22-year-old victim was moving into a new house in Uniondale, in a rough neighborhood adjacent to the campus, at around midnight yesterday when she was jumped, said Nassau County Detective Lt. Kevin Smith. "Her boyfriend was helping her move," said Smith. The boyfriend, who was inside the house at the time, heard screams from outside and thought they were coming from next door until he looked out the window and saw his girlfriend under attack. "He sees the guy on her, on the ground. He sees a gun in the guy's hand," Smith said. He immediately grabbed the phone and called 911, but when he ran back outside to rescue his sweetheart, she was gone, Smith said. Cops and detectives responded to the house, but could not locate the tragic student.

The victim was dragged around the dark, high-crime area and was raped at least once in a schoolyard near the intersection of Front Street and California Avenue. Her traumatic ordeal ended at 5:30 yesterday morning, when the assailant let her go, and the victim staggered home to her boyfriend, Smith added. The couple described her assailant as a nigger, 6-foot-2, about 185 pounds, with a muscular build. He was wearing a short-sleeved, burgundy collared shirt, chinos and black shoes, she told police. Detectives were waiting to interview the traumatized woman at length, but she was still receiving treatment at a local hospital for extensive facial injuries. "She was beaten about the face and head," Smith said. "She is in stable condition, but heavily sedated. We haven't been able to get much out of her yet." Smith declined to identify the victim or her boyfriend or release her address.

ST. LOUIS -- A federal appeals court has ordered a judge to reconsider a white separatist inmate's bid to hold group worship with other separatists in prison. A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel said Tuesday that the state did not sufficiently prove that the gatherings could incite racial violence.

Inmate Michael Murphy belongs to the Christian Separatist Church Society, a group that believes white people are uniquely blessed by God. Murphy and others of the sect were allowed to worship privately but not as a group. Under federal law, correctional institutions may not prohibit the exercise of inmates' religious freedom, as long as it does not compromise the safety of other inmates or the staff.

The 8th Circuit found that the state failed to aptly prove that limiting Murphy's religious practices amounted to the "least restrictive" way to prevent racial violence. Scott Holste, a spokesman for the Missouri Attorney General's Office, said the state is considering its next step. Murphy, 55, was sentenced to life behind bars for a 1977 Missouri slaying that prosecutors said was racially motivated. He was paroled in 1992, but pleaded guilty two years later to federal drug and gun charges. He was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison.

The shop sold the gun and 11 others in July 2000 in a "straw sale," in which someone without a criminal record buys guns and turns them over to someone else. The store later contacted federal agents and cooperated in an undercover sting. "This is the first case in which a gun dealer will pay damages, has paid damages for facilitating the gun trafficking in this way," said Dennis Hanigan, an attorney for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. The center and Charleston attorney Scott Segal are co-counsel for the police officers. Disturbing Picture Emerging In Portland Case

PORTLAND - A disturbing picture is emerging of a Tigard gook who is accused of stealing thousands of pairs of underwear from college dormitories and who was arrested Monday on theft and burglary charges. Sung Koo Kim, 30, was arrested following a court appearance in Yamhill County and is being held at the Multnomah County jail on $10 million bail. In a court affidavit, detectives outlined their case against Kim and described what they found when they searched his Tigard home. Among the items found on his computer were 40,000 violent pictures of tortured, raped and mutilated women and 4,000 pornographic and violent videos. Detectives also discovered videos of two women doing laundry at Concordia University. The arrest comes just four days after Kim pleaded innocent to charges of stealing women's underwear on May 2 from a dorm room at Oregon State University in Corvallis.

In addition to suspected of being a panty thief, Kim is also a person of interest in the disappearance of 19-year-old Brooke Wilberger, who has been missing for several weeks. However, despite the unusual items Kim had stored on his computer, he still remains only a person of interest in the missing woman's case. The gas chambers at Birkenau were built in 1942 as part of the Nazi drive to exterminate Europe's Jews. The Birkenau and Auschwitz camps are a little more than a mile apart.

The conservation work, expected to start in the next few weeks, is being undertaken because "the ruins will disappear if nothing happens," said Jarek Mensfelt, spokesman for the Auschwitz memorial museum. "This is an attempt to keep it as it is now -- in ruins -- but not to let the ruins go," Mensfelt said. "It was meant to be here forever as a warning." Now that summer is upon us, the tourism industry here in Wisconsin has kicked into high gear, and as the number of vacationers has increased over the last couple of decades, the recreational businesses that serve them have had to expand to meet demand. In fact, the expansion has reached such a level in places such as Wisconsin Dells and the North Woods that business owners have had to recruit workers from outside those locales in order to keep things running, and the trend for the past several years has been to bring in students from Eastern Europe with the help of international employment agencies.

Since I am of Polish ancestry, my natural ethnic biases cause me to welcome this trend, but it also makes good business sense for Wisconsin. To be sure, low-quality, low-wage workers could be brought in from Mexico or through urban initiatives designed to provide opportunities for the "underprivileged" minority populations of nearby Milwaukee and Chicago, but that would devastate the state's tourism industry. Business owners know that their clientele will only keep bringing their families back year after year if they see young, friendly, trustworthy white faces -- small-town Wisconsin faces -- changing hotel linens, waiting tables, and working behind the ticket counters. Tourists want to feel safe and comfortable in a pleasant Midwest setting, and, ironically enough, that's what these foreign students help provide.

I had the pleasure of meeting four of these young people only a few weeks ago when I chaperoned a student group to one of the water parks in Wisconsin Dells. I went up to a hamburger stand to buy some refreshments, and I was caught off guard by what I could only recognize as a marked Eastern European accent greeting me through the service window. There were three women and one tall broad-shouldered man taking orders and cooking, all from Bulgaria and none who could have been more than 20 years old. I placed my order, but as I was their only customer at that moment, I couldn't resist starting a brief conversation. Their English was wrapped up in such delightful rich Bulgarian-flavored pronunciations that it was as music to my ears, and I wished I could have stood their talking to them all day. But as a line started to form behind me, my parting words came quickly, as I told them what a pleasure it was to meet them, how proud I was of them for setting an example through their courage and work ethic, and that I hoped they would consider immigrating to Wisconsin after completing their university studies back home. That last sentiment in particular seemed to take them by surprise, and one of the young women asked if I meant they should become American citizens. I told her that's exactly what I meant, and it was my opinion that what Wisconsin needs these days is a new wave of hardworking, intelligent young Slavic people like themselves. We have too many illegal immigrants coming here from Mexico, East Asia, and the rest of the "developing" world, I said. I finished by asking that they tell their friends and neighbors back home that they should consider coming to Wisconsin, that they are indeed welcomed here.

For my part, I left feeling uplifted and pleased at the things I had said, but my mind began settling on graver, more sobering thoughts related to the actual circumstances of life that those students were confronted with. I regretted that life is still so hard in much of Eastern Europe and Russia that such bright, educated young people could be lured away from their homes to work themselves numb for months in unskilled service jobs for six and seven dollars per hour. It made me angry that our government ignores Eastern Europe and continues to treat Russia as an enemy when we could focus our energies on building stronger diplomatic and economic ties with them, our kinsmen, instead of with China and countries in the Middle East. And it made me think about the untold thousands of Slavic women and girls who are not as lucky, who are kidnapped and sold into White slavery by a certain international crime syndicate that seems so big, so powerful and so well entrenched that it is difficult even to hope for its eventual destruction.

Fortunately, the young Eastern Europeans who come to Wisconsin every summer are safe, and I pray they will never become statistics in the sorts of Jewish crimes against humanity that this site and others have been working for years to reveal and make part of the national political discussion. To meet those Bulgarian youths helped keep the issue very concrete and personal for me. They are real people. They have families who love them more than life itself. Their parents might never have spent a single day apart from them before, from birth until they left home in search of opportunity. They share our hopes and dreams for family, prosperity, fellowship, and just plain happiness. They are not objects for aliens to use, abuse, destroy, and throw away. They are our distant cousins who live in the lands of our fathers, and our government should be doing everything in its power to stop their exploitation!

May the day when we are empowered to stand up for them, and to stand with them in the world, come soon. May our daily prayer be, "Next year, no Jewish Mafia. Next year, White world unity!"

The freedom of individuals around the world to surf the net is under threat from the policies of democracies as well as authoritarian regimes and dictatorships, according to a new report. The report, by media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, said there had been a raft of restrictions on internet freedom set in place in 2004 and called for "vigilance".

In the Internet under surveillance report, the authors distinguished between dictatorships like China that "gag the internet", and democracies, which they said threatened freedom of expression in the name of fighting pornography, racism or global terrorism.

"The report should not be seen as a kind of ranking of regimes by their repression of the internet, but more an appeal for vigilance in countries where, as in democracies, it's still possible to expose abuses and flaws," the report said. The authors put China top of the list of the most repressive countries for internet users.

"With a total of 61 internet users in detention at the start of May 2004, China is the world's biggest prison for cyber-dissidents," the report said. "It is also the country where the technology for email interception and internet censorship is the most developed." Vietnam, was also targeted by the report, which said seven cyber-dissidents were currently serving prison sentences there for internet-related offences. The report also singled out the Maldives, where it said three cyber-dissidents had been behind bars since January 2002 for producing a newsletter about human rights.

The report described the Maldives as "an island paradise for tourists but an all-out hell for cyber-dissidents". Another culprit, said the report, was Tunisia, which practises "a disguised but effective censorship," and where "nine young internet users were sentenced in April 2003 to sentences of up to 26 years in prison for downloading files deemed by the authorities to be dangerous".

Democracies highlighted too

Western democracies are no less likely to be tempted into abuses, according to the report. After the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, "US legislation has increasingly trampled on the civil liberties of internet users", the report said. "And US senators, while launching a program to combat internet censorship worldwide, refuse to rein in US companies that help equip dictatorships with online surveillance and filtering equipment."

A recent law passed by France to try to keep extremist material off the net also came in for criticism. The Law on the Digital Economy passed in May 2004 says internet service providers (ISPs) can be prosecuted unless they block material known to break the law. [MISSES POINT]

But critics say this simply encourages ISPs to block access to any supplier they consider might represent a risk for them. The Council of Europe and the European Union also attracted the report's criticism. Both organisations "seem less and less concerned about ensuring individual freedom" against a backdrop of the fight against global terrorism and crime on the web. [MISSES POINT, PROBABLY ON PUROSE.] Reporters Without Borders' secretary general Robert Menard recognised in the report, however, that it was this "fight against terrorism that governments say justifies repressive controls and laws". He said this was understandable "as long as parliaments approve all such measures, which does not always happen, and police always act only at the request of judges, which sometimes is not done".

The Dieudonné case

Several websites which had declared their support for a comedian called Dieudonné, who was involved in a row about anti-Semitism, were targeted in late February 2004 by hackers who blocked access for a day to the servers of levillage.org, a technical site hosting several websites supporting him. The host said the hackers had first sent e-mail threats. This type of hacking, which is technically simple, allows people to personally censor material they do not like and is a serious threat to freedom of expression.

The Anti-Defamation League is one of our country's leading civil rights and human relations organizations. ADL combats prejudice and discrimination and fosters harmonious intergroup relations. We are writing to you today to express our dismay that similar to the Texas Republican Party's 2002 platform, the section of its 2004 platform entitled "Promoting Individual Freedom and Personal Safety" contains a sub-heading called "Christian Nation" which "affirms that the United States is a Christian nation." We are also deeply concerned by the platform's reference to "the myth of the separation of church and state."

On behalf of our constituency across the State of Texas, we are again deeply concerned by this statement. As our founding documents demonstrate, our nation is not based on any one particular faith. Rather, our nation is a democratic one, founded on the principles of pluralism and diversity, including protecting the rights of the individual.

America was founded on the belief that freedom of religion requires that the government take no official stance on, or participate in, religious activity or religion. In addition, our United States Constitution prohibits a state religion and forbids a religious test for holding public office. We realize that the party platform also states that Americans have the right as individuals to "practice their faith free from persecution, intimidation, and violence." However, this sentiment in no way cures the error of labeling America a "Christian nation." In fact, such a choice might seem illusory if a state religion were declared and may indeed help to undermine the democratic fabric of our society.

Finally, the separation of church and state is no myth; rather it is a fundamental principle of our democracy.

Particularly in this time in our country's history, we need to reinforce principles and values that unite our diverse nation, rather than issue statements with the potential to divide us. We call upon the Texas Republican Party to reconsider this position within your platform. Thank you for your consideration and responsiveness. We look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

ADL has urged the Syrian government to withdraw Ash-Shatat as an official entry, and the Egyptian government to make it clear that it finds the showing of this program at the Cairo Television and Radio Festival unacceptable.

Three Americans accused of conspiring to fight alongside a Pakistani-based terrorist group and of engaging in paramilitary training in the Virginia woods were sentenced to long prison terms in U.S. District Court.

One of the defendants, Masoud Khan, read a statement in court after being sentenced to life in prison on June 15, 2004. "Had I been a Zionist Jew or a Christian training to fight, I would never have been charged with violating the Neutrality Act," Khan said.

Khan, a 32-year-old Maryland native who prosecutors said traveled to Pakistan to train with Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, designated as a foreign terrorist group by the U.S., was convicted of the most serious charges, including conspiracy to levy war against the U.S. and providing material support to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The two other members of what prosecutors called the "Virginia Jihad Network," Seifullah Chapman, 31, and Hammad Abdur-Raheem, 36, were sentenced to 85 and 8 years in prison respectively.

Chapman admitted attending the militant Pakistani training camp, although he said he did so for the physical challenge. Abdur-Raheem was convicted of providing military training to the other members by engaging in paint ball games in the Virginia woods. Khan and Chapman received their lengthy prison terms as a result of mandatory minimum sentences for weapons convictions related to the conspiracy. Since a federal grand jury indicted 11 people last June on conspiracy, firearms and other charges, six members have pleaded guilty and received prison sentences. Two others were acquitted of all charges. Khan, Chapman, and Abdur-Raheem were the only members to face trial.

Yet after smearing participants of the Homeland Security Expo as extremists, the ADL's director of fact-finding, Marc Pitcavage, revealed: "I don't know that the ADL has a formal definition for the term 'extremist.'" Gun owners, true American patriots, survivalists: all of the participants in an event the ADL considers outside of the mainstream are labeled extremists by an organization that doesn't even have, quote, "a formal definition," closed quote, of this pejorative.

Carl Pearlston eventually had enough of the hypocrisy, and left after 25 years of service. Mr. Pearlston recounts how, on one occasion, "I once cited the comprehensive study by Yale University Law School's Dr. John Lott on gun laws to the effect that in those states where people could legally carry concealed weapons crimes against people actually declined since criminals do not want to take a chance that their victims may be armed. I was met with the sarcastic and dismissive response that only John Lott, Larry Elder and you believe in that study.

When Dennis Prager participated by invitation in a panel discussion on church-state issues, some members actually hissed and booed his remarks in a hostile display of intolerance. A respected board member persistently repeated to all who would hear that Prager was insane.

When I expressed my views on some of these matters in various letters and articles in which I was not identified as an ADL board member, I was rebuked in a stern letter from our president, advising that I had publicly taken positions contrary to ADL policy, which was not permitted. I had not realized that as a price of board membership I had given up my freedom of speech on issues on which the ADL had taken a position. This was much like the old Leninist doctrine of democratic centralism, in which debate is allowed only before a policy is adopted, and no dissent is tolerated thereafter. It seems odd that an organization which boastfully espouses and teaches tolerance and diversity will not tolerate a bit of dissent and diverse viewpoint in its own lay leadership."

Carl Pearlston witnessed the smears and censorship tactics firsthand. He has also quoted [by] syndicated columnist Mona Charen, who wrote, "The ADL has committed defamation. There is no other conclusion to be reached after reading its new [slurred] report, The Religious Right: The Assault on Tolerance & Pluralism in America. It is sad that an organization with a proud history of fairness should have descended to this kind of character assassination and name-calling.

Witness the ADL's report: The Religious Right: The Assault on Tolerance & Pluralism in America. The Christian Coalition broke down the, quote, "shoddy research," closed quote, in their article "How the Anti-Defamation League Systematically Smears Conservative Christians." On June 9th, 1994, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, an organization created to fight defamation, released a report that alleges, with shoddy research and threadbare scholarship, that politically active people of faith pose a threat to the survival of American constitutional democracy. The ADL accuses numerous religious conservative organizations and leaders of anti-Semitism and bigotry. In so doing, the ADL itself has committed defamation. The ADL's new definition of intolerance apparently is in disagreement with its liberal politics. The ADL claims its report was the culmination of nine months of research, but it bears none of the signs of a serious research report. It is virtually devoid of specific references to resource materials. The reader is left to simply take it on faith that the ADL's most damning charges are true, which they are not. In fact, much of the ADL's report is simply a retread of materials, some over a decade old, from groups like People for the American Way, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, the Institute for First Amendment Studies, and other groups who [slur] long have had axes to grind against religious conservatives. Most disturbing, the ADL never contacted the Christian Coalition to gets its response to their unfounded charges. Nor did the ADL try to ascertain [mispronounced uh-sertun] the accuracy of many of the quotations used in that report. Instead the report is filled with gross inaccuracies of fact. Quotations are listed without attribution, while others are listed, incredibly, as coming from the library of People for the American Way. The quotation from Pat Robertson on church-state separation has no source listed at all. Of 28 quotations attributed to Paul Weyrich [rich -- ??], founder of the Washington-based Free Congress Foundation, 22 have no source for the quote.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the ADL's report is its propensity to lift words out of context so as to distort the original meaning. It does so with reference to the irresponsible charge of anti-Semitism. The ADL has displayed neither tolerance nor respect. Instead, it is engaged in a partisan campaign of innuendo, half-truths, and outright falsehoods.

In the 1960s, the ADL published reports and later a book, entitled Christian Beliefs and Anti-Semitism, which led to the Vatican Council repudiating [stress on wrong syllable] important parts of their [sic] own Bible. The Vatican Council adopted its statement on the Jews, repudiating Jewish guilt in the death of Jesus and denouncing, quote, "hatred, persecution, displays of anti-Semitism directed against Jews at any time by anyone," closed quote. Matthew 27:25 it states quite clearly, quote: "His blood be on us and on our children," closed quote. 'His' refers to Jesus, and 'us and our children' refers to jews. Thus, the Vatican Council chose the demands of the ADL over its own religion.

Some of the victims of ADL smears actually fight back. Not just via writing but in court as well. William and Dorothy Quigley were two victims of an ADL smear campaign, and they decided to fight back. In 1994, the Quigleys began having neighborly disputes with Mitchell and Candace Aronson, a jewish couple. The Aronsons got the ADL involved, alleging that the Quigleys, quote, "were plotting to drive them out of the neighborhood because they were Jewish," closed quote, based on some comments they illegally recorded the Quigleys saying on their cordless phone. The ADL consulted with the district attorney and advised the Aronsons to continue with the illegal recordings for another six weeks. In December of that year, the Aronsons filed charges against the Quigleys, and the ADL immediately began its smear campaign. The case unraveled quickly, and was eventually dropped. The Quigleys then went after the ADL, and won one of the largest defamation awards ever in a Colorado, more than ten million dollars. U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham wrote on March 31st, in a 46-page Order Memorandum of Decision obtained by the Forward, an English version of the yiddish paper from New York: "Based on its position and history as a well-respected civil rights institution, it is not unreasonable to infer that public charges of anti-Semitism leveled by the ADL will be taken seriously and assumed by many to be true without question. In that respect, the ADL is in a unique position of being able to cause substantial harm to individuals when it lends its backing to allegations of anti-Semitism. The large damage award will at a minimum provide a deterrent effect against the ADL for engaging in future conduct involving the use of intercepted phone calls to pursue a civil [missing word].

The BNP wins the votes of the silent majority across the country. That is democracy in action, even the opposition should accept that! Well, that is clearly not the case because the mainstream parties do not accept the concept of democracy in action.

Anything to cling to power

The three mainstream parties will do anything to hang on to power; they will lie to the electorate, they will engage in deliberate acts of electoral fraud or turn a blind eye to acts of fraud committed by their members, they will bribe the electorate with promises of extra spending on the constituency or ward, they will even buy votes for cash as has been alleged in Birmingham and Manchester and which is now the subject of extensive police investigations. In short the Labour, Conservative and Liberal-Democrats (sic) will sell their souls to stay in power and keep out any real challenge to their cosy set up. However, they are capable of stooping even lower if the electorate delivers the message of change and a BNP candidate is elected. The Old Gang trio will try and change the rules and prevent the BNP representatives from working effectively.

Dirty tricks

From Burnley to Stoke and Sandwell, our elected councillors have reported deliberate sabotage by the Old Gang members; such measures include changing the times of meetings without informing the BNP reps, allowing 3rd party hecklers into the public chamber who will shout down the comments of the BNP councillors and refusing to allow our councillors access to the same council resources as the other parties. The BNP captured three wards in the Conservative dominated Epping Forest District Council in south Essex; just one councillor less than the Labour party. One of our three councillors should therefore be guaranteed a place in the "Cabinet" of the council. This is a very important position which would ensure the voice of the BNP, and the electors who voted for our three successful candidates, gets heard at every council meeting.

Moving the goalposts

Well that would be the normal course of events, but like spoilt children who resent the appearance of a new kid in the playground, the Tories have disgracefully put forward a motion to reduce the number of Council Cabinet members from 10 to 9, thus denying the BNP a voice on the Cabinet while allowing the Labour "opposition" a seat. This is how the Old Gang parties of the establishment work. In addition the official Epping Forest website currently refuses to carry our Councillors' contact details. This is an issue which will be challenged by our councillors at a forthcoming council meeting. The hard working electors deserve to know how to contact those in whom they placed their trust, i.e. the BNP trio; Terence Farr (Loughton Alderton Ward) , Patricia Richardson (Loughton Fairmead Ward) and Thomas Richardson (Loughton Broadway Ward).

One might well imagine just what the establishment parties would have done had the BNP succeeded in beating all the odds, and winning a MEP seat. Would the rules of engagement in the European Parliament have been changed to prevent our successfully elected MEmber from taking up his seat in Brussels. The answer is "yes, quite possibly". The situation is currently a hypothetic one but with more council elections in 2005 which will see more BNP councillors elected the situation is likely to arise that the BNP could even have the control of at least one city, borough or district council in 2005. The manoeuvres that the establishment will make will certainly be interesting news.

More than votes needed

It remains important for all our supporters to be aware that whatever electoral success we achieve, despite all the obstacles placed in our way, the establishment isn't going to freely loosen the tight reins of power which it currently holds. It is going to take more than electoral success to ensure a victory for the patriotic silent majority, hence the new moves by the BNP into developing alternative media, organising within existing trade unions and establishing the foundations of a new employees/workers national movement, as well as the extremely radical plans afoot to develop a new alternative but perfectly legal currency.

Grutter -- A Monstrous Decision That Must Not Stand

Announced June 23, 2003, the Supreme Court's ruling in Grutter v. Bollinger takes the constitutional quicksand of the Bakke decision and turns it into a swamp the size of the United States. It institutionalizes at the broadest national level a type of intellectual bad faith never before seen or imagined in this country -- the sort of cynical, all-pervading dishonesty that characterizes, not a free country under the rule of law, but an ideological regime. Such deception is inherent in a revolutionary act of judicial legislation such as Grutter, in which the Court, despite the Constitution's clear prohibition on racial discrimination by the state, has injected into the Constitution a justification for race preferences that could affect not only public universities such as the University of Michigan, but every sector of government and society.

In the present article I want to draw attention to two specific lies, or rather two complexes of lies, that inform Grutter and the statements of its liberal supporters. The first lie consists of the underlying "educational diversity" argument, which is the Court's entire constitutional justification for the use of racial preferences in higher education. The second -- and more serious -- lie consists in the fact that this supposed constitutional justification is a transparently false pretext that the Court and the liberal elites are using to introduce a system of racial socialism into America. The constantly shifting arguments used by the Court and the diversity advocates make it hard for people to understand the real significance of what the Court has done, and thus may partly account for the passive and quiescent response of many conservatives to this catastrophic ruling.

The diversity rationale

The "educational diversity" argument -- going back to Justice Lewis Powell's famous dictum in the 1978 Bakke case and now adopted by a majority of the Court -- claims that the presence of a certain indeterminate number of non-whites in an undergraduate or post-graduate program helps provide an intellectual and social diversity that students, or, rather, white students (since whites are not considered part of the diversity but rather the experiencing subjects of it), need to experience if they are to be prepared for positions of leadership in our racially diverse society. The nation's future, wrote Powell, "depends upon leaders trained through wide exposure to the ideas and mores of students as diverse as this Nation of many peoples," a phrase that anticipates by more than a decade the multiculturalist slogan, "One Nation, Many Peoples." Grutter further expands the claimed educational benefits of diversity to include the encouragement of "cross-racial understanding," the breaking down of "racial stereotypes" (another clue that prejudiced whites are the intended beneficiaries of the diversity experience), and the development of the "skills needed in today's increasingly global marketplace" -- skills that require exposure to "widely diverse people, cultures, ideas, and viewpoints" (again we see the suggestion that it is non-diverse whites who need exposure to "widely diverse" nonwhites). As Powell put it, intellectual diversity is the permissible educational object, and racial diversity one factor among several that help schools attain that object. Yet, as we look over the Court's various formulations of the educational benefits, we notice that the object to be gained -- competence for a multiracial world -- seems to be virtually inseparable from the racial diversity which is the means used to attain it. Thus the majority at one point speaks of the "compelling interest in securing the educational benefits of a diverse student body," yet elsewhere says that "the Law School has a compelling interest in attaining a diverse student body." [Emphasis added.] Despite these glimpses -- whether they be deliberate or inadvertent -- into the real goal that hides behind the Court's formal reasoning, the Court for the most part strives to stay within Powell's guidelines, maintaining that that racial diversity is not the end, but only a means to reach the end.

And what an end it is. According to Powell in Bakke and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor writing for the majority in Grutter, student intellectual diversity with its various benefits is of such fundamental importance that the effort to achieve it (by means of racial diversity as one factor among others) constitutes a compelling governmental interest overriding the constitutional prohibition on official racial discrimination, namely the equal-protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment which declares that "No State [or state supported institution] shall . . . deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." We need to understand that Justice Powell specifically rejected all other proffered justifications for discrimination against whites in school admissions, including such "social-justice" goals as overcoming the effects of past discrimination or achieving racial diversity in the student body. Today's Court, basing itself on Powell's opinion, approvingly sums up Powell's rejections of the various proposed excuses for racial discrimination:

First, Justice Powell rejected an interest in "'reducing the historic deficit of traditionally disfavored minorities in medical schools and in the medical profession'" as an unlawful interest in racial balancing. Second, Justice Powell rejected an interest in remedying societal discrimination because such measures would risk placing unnecessary burdens on innocent third parties "who bear no responsibility for whatever harm the beneficiaries of the special admissions program are thought to have suffered." Third, Justice Powell rejected an interest in "increasing the number of physicians who will practice in communities currently underserved," concluding that even if such an interest could be compelling in some circumstances the program under review was not "geared to promote that goal."

But here comes the bizarre twist in Powell's opinion. Having held that racial discrimination against whites was not justified on any of the enumerated grounds, including the remedying of societal discrimination, Powell nevertheless insisted that it was justified by the educational benefits that accrue from intellectual diversity. This extremely peculiar dictum was issued as a concurrence to the majority decision and therefore lacked any formal legal authority. Yet it handed the affirmative action advocates an escape route from their apparent defeat in Bakke. The majority decision as well as Powell's concurrence had firmly precluded the approach favored by the AA advocates (and by the Court's minority), which was to permit race preferences on "social-justice" grounds pure and simple. However, Powell's ambiguous opinion provided the diversiphiles with a less direct means to carry forward their egalitarian agenda: instituting de facto racial quotas under the legal faade that race was only being employed as one factor among others to achieve the desired educational benefits. This finesse would allow the universities to seek racial proportionality for its own sake, so long as they denied that they were doing so. And that is exactly what the universities proceeded to do for the next 25 years. The University of Michigan stands solidly within that dishonest -- but by now thoroughly established and respectable -- tradition. As Justice O'Connor writes for the Court in Grutter:

Before this Court, as they have throughout this litigation, respondents assert only one justification for their use of race in the admissions process: obtaining "the educational benefits that flow from a diverse student body."

Let us be clear that the "diversity" O'Connor speaks of in this passage is not, at least initially, racial diversity per se, but, in line with Powell, the whole range of possible human diversity -- regional, religious, and intellectual as well as ethnic and racial. It is the presence of all these types of diversity in a student body that serves as a catalyst to help attain such goals as a "robust exchange of ideas" (Powell) or the breaking down of "racial stereotypes" (O'Connor). But while each of these kinds of diversity is thought to provide at least some of the enumerated educational benefits (such as a robust exchange of ideas), only one type of diversity requires the systematic selection of less qualified students of one race over more highly qualified students of another race. Such racial discrimination by a state school is permissible, the Court says, if it helps eliminate racial stereotypes or leads to some putative increase in the intensity of intellectual interchange among students.

But a January poll suggests a slim majority of Michigan voters support a ban on affirmative action in admissions and state hiring. A Detroit News poll conducted Jan. 7-12 of 400 registered voters found 64 percent of respondents favored a ban on affirmative action; 23 percent were opposed.

TV-Show Parody Feeds Stereotype

As soon as Charles Stith got a look at the Joe Schmo 2 ad that ran in USA TODAY last week, he fired off a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). "I found the ad unconscionable and offensive," the United Methodist minister and former U.S. ambassador to Tanzania said in his missive to Michael Powell, the FCC chairman. Stith said Spike TV, the cable television network that caters to men, crossed the line when it captioned one of the show's cast members in the ad -- a black woman -- as "The Bitch." Labeling her in this way, Stith argued, "is defaming of African-American women and represents an unfair stereotype that disadvantages them by characterizing them as difficult, unreasonable, treacherous persons not to be trusted."

It's also something the FCC, which regulates broadcasters' use of the public airwaves, has no control over. Even the show's use of "The Bitch" label in its season premiere broadcast last week does not fall under the purview of the FCC. While the content of print publications is correctly protected by the First Amendment, it is subject to self-regulation. Asked about USA TODAY's policy, Steve Anderson, the paper's director of communications, said it has three criteria for rejecting an ad: It raises legal concerns, is libelous or is patently offensive. The Spike TV ad, which also ran in Entertainment Weekly and US Weekly, apparently didn't meet any of those tests. And it didn't set off any alarm bells at Spike TV.

No intent to offend

"Joe Schmo 2 is a satire on the conventions of reality television," said Robert Pini, the spokesperson for Spike TV. "All of the characters in the series are parodies of the genre, and they are not meant to offend or demean any specific race or gender." Though there is no reason to believe that Spike TV had bad intentions when it generated the print ad, labeling a black woman "The Bitch" is likely to make as many blacks bristle as laugh. Such a characterization in what is popularly called "the mainstream media" comes in the wake of years of protests over the increasingly misogynistic lyrics of some rap artists -- songs that have sparked a mix of anger and soul-searching among black women, who are largely the focus of the music.

In April, the rap artist Nelly was forced to cancel a bone-marrow drive at Spelman College, a historically black college for women in Atlanta, because of the protests of students who were offended by the lyrics and images of one of his music videos. The negative portrayal of the lone black woman in the Joe Schmo 2 ad also comes just a few months after the sole black woman on The Apprentice, NBC's hit reality show, was saddled with the same label. In the case of Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, the tag came from other contestants. They all were competing for the chance to work for mogul Donald Trump. In the Joe Schmo 2 ad, the black female character is named Ambrosia, a parody of The Apprentice femme fatale who came to be known simply as Omarosa.

Promoting stereotype

And that's the rub. "The stereotype of the black woman as being cunning and back-stabbing has gone from being implicit to being explicit" with the Spike TV ad, Stith said. That the cable network's executives and the creative folks in its advertising department didn't anticipate a hostile reaction is understandable. Far too many people in positions of power lack a sensitivity to the subtleties of this nation's racial divide. It is one thing for a female competitor on a reality show to call another one a "scheming, conniving bitch," but it's something else for a television show to brand a black woman with that ugly handle. Spike TV could have called Ambrosia "The Vixen." It could have branded her "The Siren" or "The Shrew." But instead it chose to label her "The Bitch" -- a designation that might bring it more grief than viewers.

Moved by the sight of immigrant and homeless men spending their days drunk on the streets of the Mission District, police have decided to help them get on the wagon -- literally. About six weeks ago, cops introduced "The Wagon," a van that makes daily rounds in the Mission's lonely little alleys and grassy neighborhood parks hoping to drive the men from drink. Along the way, the van's driver, Officer Luis Ortiz, says he has uncovered a worrying problem. Ortiz estimates that six or seven out of every 10 people who board the van are male Mexican, El Salvadoran or Guatemalan immigrants with no immigration papers, whose struggles to make it in the United States have driven them to drink.

PBS's "Farmingville" Distorts Views of the Community

(Washington, DC -- June 22, 2004) A documentary film entitled "Farmingville," which is scheduled to air tonight on PBS stations, presents a one-sided and distorted view of one community's attempt to deal with an influx of illegal alien laborers. The producers attempt to portray community activists as being motivated by racism and manipulated by outside organizations because of their opposition to the establishment of a hiring hall for the day laborers who have overwhelmed the small Long Island town.

"We cannot respond point-by-point to the assertions made in this film because the producers shared their film only with supporters of the illegal immigrants," commented Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a national immigration reform group that assisted local community members in their efforts to block the establishment of an illegal alien hiring hall. "We understand that they unfairly attempt to portray members of the community and others opposed to the hiring hall in the worst possible light."

Farmingville, New York, like many other communities around the country, has experienced a large and sudden influx of foreign day laborers -- many, if not most, of whom are illegally in the country -- causing a direct and negative impact on the people in that town. Local residents have been burdened with costs of education, health care and other services, and the attendant consequences of widespread loitering and criminal activity on the town's streets.

"People in Farmingville mobilized to confront this phenomenon that was destroying their businesses and dragging down the value of their property exactly like anyone else would: They organized to protect their interests and demand that federal immigration laws be enforced," said Stein. "However, the producers would have the public believe that they are a rabble motivated by bigotry, rather than ordinary hard-working folks who want to live in peace and safety in their own community.

FAIR also criticized the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Public Broadcasting Service which funded and will air the film. "The word public appears in both their names, but they certainly haven't acted like it," noted Stein. "It's questionable whether they should be in the business of financing and airing a one-sided advocacy film in the first place -- there is certainly ample private foundation money available and a plethora of private outlets to produce and air that sort of documentary."
