Judaism's Hatred for Women
Editor's introduction: Much of esoteric Judaism is concerned with either cursing someone with the "evil eye" or defending against the evil eye (another of their fears is to drown in spit). The bendel (red string
bracelet) now in vogue among Hollywood harlots is for purposes of defending against the evil eye. Such defense is common to superstitious and witchcraft-oriented cultures worldwide.
It's of interest that the New York Times uses the goy orthography for Kabbalah ("cabala"), perhaps to emphasize the influence of a CABAL on on our world?
You will note that toward the end of the report, Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz is trotted out to voice official disapproval of these dingaling trends among the goyim, in the familiar tradition of the pot calling the kettle black, as if Judaism does not benefit from the prestige accorded it by these tinseltown losers who ascribe to Judaism, with pathetic cult-like credulity, the miraculous powers of a wonder-working religion.
Steinsaltz's complaint is not the traffic in Kabbalistic black magic per se (he makes no protest about the magical paraphernalia and good luck charms for which Kabbalistic rabbis are justly infamous).
The real irritant to Steinsaltz and company is that this trend is largely led by "meat from the butcher shop" (i.e. women, in Talmudic parlance). Many revered Judaic "sages" have decreed that women are mostly witches, including the "good" Pharisee, Hillel ("many women many
spells") and Rashi ("It is mostly women who practice withcraft"). These rabbinic observations are passing strange, in that all of the authors of the major Judaic books of black magic, from the earliest (the Sefer
ha-Razim) to the Zohar itself, were male rabbis.
Islam has the misogynist notoriety, but it is Judaism that out-mullahs Mullah Omar when it comes to absolute contempt for women. Retards like Demi Moore and Britney Spears make obeisance to a Judaic abbatoir where, in the words of the Gemara, it is permitted for women to be consumed (sexually or otherwise): "salted, roasted, cooked or boiled."

Uma Thurman, photographed with a quilted Chanel tote on one arm and the hotelier Andr Balazs on the other, is a portrait of chic. But Ms.
Thurman has nothing, it seems, on Demi Moore. In recent weeks, Ms. Moore has appeared on the red carpet with Ashton Kutcher at her side and a slender red string encircling her wrist a diminutive bracelet that could become one of the most coveted accessories of the season.
The bracelet, known as a bendel, is said to protect one from the evil eye and marks the wearer as a devotee of cabala, a mystical branch of Judaism or more likely, simply as an acolyte of hip. Bendels are in high demand not only at the 50 Kabbalah Centre stores around the world but also on the Web and in boutiques across the country.
"The bracelet has been huge for us," said Jaye Hersh, the owner of Intuition, a trendy Los Angeles boutique offering silver and red string bendels for $45. Since May, Ms. Hersh has sold more than 1,000 bendels, the amulet of choice for the likes of Ms. Moore, Mr. Kutcher and Britney Spears. "It's all about, `I've got to wear what the celebrity has,' " Ms. Hersh said.
The bendel is but one in a catalog of pop Judaica that is finding its way into the marketplace. There is cabala water, sold in plastic bottles. There are tefillin, the sacred assemblage of leather boxes and straps worn by Orthodox Jewish men during morning prayers. There are red candles, and, of course, there is the Star of David, now a gleaming badge of cool.
The adoption of such symbols by the fashion flock was perhaps to be expected, given that they have the endorsement of none other than Madonna. Cabala's most visible practitioner, she has worn the bendel, along with tefillin and a T-shirt bearing the slogan "Kabbalists Do It Better," on her Re-Invention World Tour.
Never mind that she is not Jewish. "Madonna has brought a lot of attention to Judaism," said Sara Schwimmer, a Brooklyn merchant of pop Judaica. Ms. Schwimmer welcomes the current flirtation with Jewish iconography. "Madonna has made Judaism hip," she said, "and I hate to say it, but the hip factor goes really far."
Far enough, evidently, to have prompted Ms. Schwimmer to develop ChosenCouture.com, a Web site offering silver and gold bendels and kitsch like "Moses Is My Homeboy" T-shirts, graffiti-airbrushed skullcaps and a crystal-studded Star of David, promoted on the Web site "for those nice Jewish girls with a rock-and-roll edge."
A less flippant spirituality impelled Harry Slatkin, a fragrance entrepreneur, to introduce a line of candles, called simply Kabbalah, imbued with frankincense, cinnamon and myrrh and said to promote sexual energy, spiritual cleansing and the like. Each candle will be packaged with a bendel blessed at Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem, said Mr. Slatkin, who is himself a cabala devotee. "We hired an armored car expressly to transport them there," he said. Come September, he added, the candles will be sold for $20 at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Not surprisingly, the embrace of cabala and its symbols has raised alarms among some Jewish scholars. Pop culture cabala is to the genuine practice what pornography is to love, Adin Steinsaltz, a Hasidic rabbi in Jerusalem, told The New York Times last year. "Pornography is intrinsically soulless and doesn't have any obligations attached," Rabbi Steinsaltz said. "It's just using externals." Pop cabalists, he said, are doing the same thing.
The proliferation of Jewish trinkets also raises concern that its merchants are obsessed with profits, not piety.
"We wouldn't want to look mercenary that is something we all have to be very careful about," said Mr. Slatkin, whose company will donate 20 percent of the retail price of his candles to the Kabbalah Centres worldwide.
Ms. Hersh of the Intuition shop said she had not heard complaints that her wares smacked of sacrilege.
"I actually was thinking that was a possibility," she said. "We are thinking of donating a portion of our proceeds to the Kabbalah Centre.
That way we'll be covered."

But there is a way you can insulate yourself and your family, you have to buy and hold onto real physical gold, not a lot, but everyone should have some. Book by CIA's "Anonymous" Reflects Analyst Outrage

The book has an apt title: "Imperial Hubris: Why the
West is Losing the War on Terror." And the author
spells out "why." We are losing because of the
misguided war on Iraq and the upsurge in terrorism it
has engendered.
Sadly, that conclusion was validated last week by the
widespread, coordinated attacks by the Iraqi
resistanceattacks that brought Vietnam to mind and,
specifically, the country-wide "Tet" offensive by
Communist forces in early 1968 that made Walter
Cronkite and many other Americans realize we had all
been badly misled into thinking that that war was
winnable.
The final week of formal US occupation of Iraq was a
bad one. And the last thing the Bush administration
needed was publication of the challenging judgments of
a CIA analyst who devoted 17 years to tracking
al-Qaeda and other terrorists. That analyst (let's
call him Mike) wrote that the Iraqi adventure was "an
unprovoked war against a foe who posed no immediate
threat." He emphasized, "There is nothing that bin
Laden could have hoped for more than the American
invasion and occupation of Iraq."
Mike added that the US has "waged two failed half-wars
and, in doing so, left Afghanistan and Iraq seething
with anti-US sentiment, fertile grounds for the
expansion of al-Qaeda and kindred groups."
Asked yesterday to comment on these biting charges,
National Security assistant Condoleezza Rice refused
on grounds that she did not know who Anonymous is. Did
she not think to ask the CIA? If I had no trouble
finding out, certainly she should have none.
Worse still for the administration, during an
interview with NBC's Andrea Mitchell on June 23, Mike
rubbed salt in White House wounds, subjecting to
ridicule the dumbed-down bromide that what motivates
bin Laden and his Muslim followers is hatred of our
"freedom," our "democracy."
It's the Policy, Stupid!
"It's not hatred of us as a society, it's hatred of
our policies," Mike insisted. He gave pride of place
to the neuralgic issue of Israel. With candor not
often heard on American television, he emphasized
"It's very hard in this country to debate policy
regarding Israel," adding that bin Laden's "genius" is
his ability to exploit those US policies most
offensive to Muslims"Our support for Israel, our
presence on the Arabian peninsula, in Afghanistan and
Iraq, our support for governments that Muslims believe
oppress Muslims."
Asked how bin Laden views the war in Iraq
specifically, Mike said bin Laden looks on it as proof
of America's hostility toward Muslims; that America
"is willing to attack any Muslim country that dares
defy it; that it is willing to do almost anything to
defend Israel. The war is certainly viewed as an
action meant to assist the Israeli state. It isa
godsend for those Muslims who believe as bin Laden
does."
Mike drove home this general message again Sunday on
ABC's "This Week." He argued that it is US policies
that "drive the terrorism," and said failure to change
those policies could mean decades of war. Only if the
American people learn the truth can more effective
policies be fashioned and implemented, he added.
What Sets Mike's Teeth on Edge
Here is where Mike's understated outrage shows through
most clearly. The undercurrent in both interviews is
that his analysis was offered well before the war but,
as he told NBC, "senior bureaucrats in the
intelligence community (were unwilling) to take the
full truth, an unvarnished truth to the
presidentWhatever danger was posed by Saddamwas
almost irrelevantThe boost that (the war) would give
to al-Qaeda was easily seen."
Many experienced intelligence analysts will find it
easy to identify with Mike's frustration. Put on your
analyst hat for a few minutes and put yourself in his
place. You have studied the issue with painstaking
professionalism for 17 years and have acquired an
expert view of the forces at play and the likely
result of this or that policy. You warn, you warn, and
you warn, as Mike did. And yet, because of wooden
headedness, stupidity, or sycophancy, your superiors
disregard your views and you are reduced to looking on
helplessly as a calamitous course is set for the
country.

The extended weekend of Independence Day is around the
corner. I will celebrate it with family and friends by
ribs and corn, bratwurst and sauerkraut. The dessert,
probably some ice cream and strudel.
Some of you might wonder why bratwurst and sauerkraut?
Because this 4th of July, we are celebrating the
tremendous contribution of American Germans to the
founding of this country. I suggest you Scots, you
Irish, you French, you Poles, you Yugoslavs, you
Czechs, you Italians, and so forth celebrate the
tremendous contribution of your ethnic groups as well.
Of course, as an American of German heritage, I
believe that the German immigrants made the biggest
contribution to this country.
But way before, over 200 years ago, on September 10th,
1785, the United States of America, represented by
John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin,
and the Kingdom of Prussia, concluded a treaty of
amity and commerce. This is the earliest document of
diplomatic relations between Germany and America. It
regulated not only the commercial exchange between the
two countries, but also guaranteed rights such as the
most perfect freedom.
In a letter, written in July 1786, George Washington
said of the treaty:
"It is the most liberal treaty which has ever been
entered between independent powers."
This was just the start. German influence in building
and shaping the United States of America was the
greatest of all immigrants. By 1980, more than 60
million Americans of German heritage lived in the US.
Technology, science, health and education were the top
occupations of German-Americans. But German immigrants
predominantly did also farming. California, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa,
North Dakota and South Dakota became the stomping
grounds of Americans with German heritage.
Even in Hawaii then 9.19% of the population were
German-Americans; in Texas 15.2%; in Washington 66.7%,
and Nevada 21.9%.
What was started 200 years ago by two great leaders,
King Frederick II The Great of Prussia and George
Washington, turned into a snowball effect for the New
World.
It was 150 years later that the US entered into war
with Prussian Germany (1917 - WWI). Today, after two
World wars and 60 years of holocaust brainwashing,
German Americans are mostly quiet, afraid to be
demonized again. So, I think it's a great idea to
celebrate Independence Day by celebrating European
American heritage and its contributions to the
founding of this country.

THE PORN THING
The recent ruling of the Supreme Court about the porn
thing on the Internet keeps hunting me in my box. I
must have gotten more than 60 messages, and they are
all from people that can't see the forest for the
trees. Doom and gloom messages, because they can't see
the bigger picture. It's not that I necessarily
support the porn thing, in fact, I am vehemently
opposed to child pornography, however, I whole
heartily support the Supreme Court's decision. Yes, it
is a First Amendment issue, and if we ever let these
prude morons get their way, forget freedom of speech
on the Internet.
I personally don't understand it. Isn't this a
declaration of incompetence on the part of American
parents? And at the same time, I wish that some of
this opposition to porn would be directed towards
Hollywood. 12 and 13 year old kids there are show,
falling in love and dressed so provocative that it
borders on pornography. Even these so-called
"wholesome" family movies from Disney are falling into
this category.
What's badly needed is that parents take back the
responsibility for their children. It's not mine, or
the government's, or the churches, or the ADL's or the
Jews job.
Those are the same signs as I have seen when I was
heavily involved in the Second Amendment movement:
"For the children." For the children we have outlawed
almost any effective gun in the country and California
is the worst.
The truth: No one is really concerned about the
children, because if they were, there would be a war
against missing children. But I guess, as long as we
have a war against terrorism and a war against drugs,
who cares about the hundreds of thousands of children
that disappear every year?
I am tired that in the name "for the children" my
constitutional rights are being taken away. If you
don't like adult porn, don't look at it. It's just
like if you don't like a magazine. Don't read it. No
one is holding a gun to your head.
It is my opinion that children have no business owning
a computer, being on the web. They should study and go
to church. So, my dear parents, if you can't control
your children, then you suffer the consequences, but
don't put it on me.

NATIONAL INVESTOR UPDATE--Wednesday morning, June 30,
2004
Well, today's the big day. After four years of
declining or steady interest rates, the F.O.M.C. this
afternoon will confirm what everyone but Rip Van
Winkle already knows; short-term interest rates are
heading back up. Following its two-day meeting,
Greenspan and Company will raise the federal funds
rate by 25 basis points from its long-running
"emergency" level of 1 percent.
What lingering uncertainty (or anxiety, if you will)
remains about the best-telegraphed rate hike of all
time concerns what the Fed SAYS in addition to its
rate action. As I've commented recently, the Fed does
not want to let the bond market get any farther out in
front of it; and has to be worried about long-term
rates spiking higher if, as a result of today, the
vigilantes' perception is that the Fed will continue
moving too slowly as inflation heats up.
Greenspan does not want to move the federal funds rate
any higher than he absolutely has to for lots of
reasons I've discussed over the last few months.
Right now, most expect that it will only take the next
year or so until we get to a "neutral" rate in the
neighborhood of 3.5-4%. We'll see; but Yours Truly
doubts that very seriously. Already, there are signs
that the economy is slowing of its own accord. In
fact, we've had a "triple whammy" in the past week
from General Motors, Target and Wal-Mart; all key
companies in the consumer spending equation--and all
companies warning that the consumer is tiring.
The market has begun to pay attention to such things,
as well as worrying about the corollary to this;
that--just maybe--people are too optimistic on second
quarter earnings that will now start trickling out in
mere days. This, together with everyone waiting still
on Greenspan, helps explain why stocks (though "market
internals" have technically strengthened some) STILL
are having trouble sustaining a rally.
We'll see how much help Alan gives them today. But,
as I said above, the kind of dovish statement as to
staying at a "measured pace" that might help stocks
would be most likely to have the opposite effect on
the bond market. And, at this point in time, it's
more important to keep long-term rates capped as best
as possible. --
Thus, if there are any surprises today, it will be
that the Fed will be moderately more "hawkish"
regarding inflation than it has been until now.
Still, though, even this might not mean that the Fed
accelerates in the near term; IF you hear this today,
understand that this is mere rhetoric intended to keep
long-term interest rates (and gold) in check. After
all, as others have quipped recently, Greenspan has
clearly adopted a policy of "speak loudly, and carry a
small toothpick."--
Speaking of gold, I was VERY tempted two mornings ago
to add a bit more aggressiveness to my posture on gold
shares; and am now glad I didn't! Gold failed to hold
above $400 per ounce (spectacularly so yesterday, in
fact.) This was for two reasons. First, as I
discussed in June's issue, there is simply not
sufficient interest from investors for the metal right
now, after so many of them had to run for the hills
when almost all metals imploded in April. Though
they'll eventually be back, there just aren't enough
of these folks right now with the willingness and fuel
to sustain a rally.--
Second, the dollar refuses to break down anew. Just
when it looks like the buck will break down further,
it catches a break. This happened yesterday, when a
stronger-than-expected report on consumer confidence
came out (the pollsters actually made a mistake, and
the results were skewed by consumer's excitement over
the imminent release of Spiderman Part 2, or whatever
it's technically called.)--
Of everything I follow, I will be most interested in
seeing the dollar's behavior in the moments after the
smoke goes up the chimney at the F.O.M.C. That will
dictate what gold does as well and, possibly, the bond
market. As for stocks, my guess is that whatever
happens this afternoon will prove almost irrelevant,
as it often does; more telling will be how stocks look
going into tomorrow's open.
So, folks, none of us any longer will have the
"excuse" after today of needing to wait for important
events before we can do more than sit on our hands
(not a bad tactic for most of the year, though, given
that the market is flat as we're at 2004's halfway
point.) It will be humorous if, following the rate
hike that everyone knows is coming, we STILL have such
tentative behavior as we've been seeing. It might not
be all that strange, however; after all, on Monday we
had a strong rally for half a day following what was
sold as the handover of power in Iraq; but by day's
end, it was gone.
I remain comfortable with the additions to my
recommended list of Tuesday morning, whatever the
outcome. Beyond this, we'll see what transpires in
the next 24 hours, after which I may be making more
new recommendations.

Army Recalling Thousands Who Left Service

WASHINGTON - For the first time in more than a decade, the Army is forcing
thousands of former soldiers back into uniform, a reflection of the strain on
the service of long campaigns in Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news -
web sites).

Army officials on Wednesday announced that 5,674 former soldiers -- mostly people
who recently left the service and have up-to-date skills in military policing,
engineering, logistics, medicine or transportation -- will be assigned to
National Guard and Reserve units that are scheduled to deploy to Iraq or
Afghanistan. The first notifications are to be received July 6.
They will be put on active duty for a minimum of 12 months and mostly likely for
18 months. The Pentagon (news - web sites)'s policy is to not keep troops in
Iraq or Afghanistan for more than 12 months.
Robert Smiley, the Army secretary's principal aide on troop training and
mobilization, told a Pentagon news conference that more former soldiers, in
addition to the 5,674, are likely to get called up next year. He said he could
not estimate the number but would not rule out that it would be thousands.

Agreement in Swiss bank case could mean more for survivors

NEW YORK, June 29 (JTA) -- Swiss banks and the U.S. judge overseeing a $1.25
billion settlement of Holocaust-era claims have reached an agreement that may
yield hundreds of millions of dollars in additional assets for survivors and
their heirs.
Reached June 10 between Credit Suisse, UBS AG and the U.S. District Court of
Eastern New York, the agreement for the first time will publicize information
about thousands of accounts and will establish a U.S. database to field claims
through the Claims Conference, the principal body dealing with Holocaust
restitution. "This gives us the information to try to give the money to the
right people,"
Burt Neuborne, a New York University law professor and the court-appointed lead
settlement counsel, told JTA.
The agreement comes in the wake of a stormy April hearing before U.S. District
Court Judge Edward Korman that saw survivors and dozens of groups from the
United States, Israel and Europe vying for the lion's share of some $650 million
remaining from the historic 1998 class-action settlement with the Swiss banks.
Their pleas came after Korman issued several memorandums earlier this year
indicating that after $593 million had been awarded to survivors or their heirs,
as well as others impacted by Swiss complicity in Nazi actions -- including Swiss
refugees and slave laborers for Swiss firms -- he likely would award most of the
remaining money to the poorest survivors, who are believed to live in the former
Soviet Union.
Korman also accused the Swiss banks of trying to "delay justice" and cover up
frozen Holocaust-era assets through strict secrecy laws.
If it helps more survivors to recover lost assets, the June 10 agreement could
mean that less is available for needy survivors who didn't have Swiss accounts.
Of the money awarded so far, nearly $155 million has gone directly to some 2,000
survivors who had accounts in Swiss banks, or their heirs. A claims tribunal
screened 33,000 claims for 20,000 names the Swiss agreed to make public.
Court memos indicate that the average award was $170,000, though assets varied
widely in size, officials said.
Under the latest agreement, the banks will publish information about 5,000 more
Swiss accounts where the names match lists of Holocaust survivors but lack other
corroborating documentation.
That will "give people a chance to step forward" to provide additional evidence
linking them to the accounts, Neuborne said.
The banks also finally allowed 13,500 claims that did not match bank lists, but
agreed to rank them on the basis of relative documentary strength such as bank
books, documents or personal narratives, Neuborne said.
The banks also agreed to try to match those claims not from a 13,600-name
database but from a much broader file of 4.1 million names, dubbed the "total
account database." Two thousand of the strongest claims will be reviewed in
depth to determine if they match account data.
Jerusalem resident Martin Stern, one of the original plaintiffs in a separate
case that sparked the Holocaust insurance policy settlement that produced the
International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims, or ICHEIC, lauded
the latest Swiss pact.
"We have, thank God, broken a barrier," Stern said of the latest steps.
But Stern, a member of the World Zionist Organization's audit and treasury
committees, also called on the banks and Korman to allow a "cross-check" between
the 500,000 names in the ICHEIC database and the Swiss database to see if any
account holders surface.
"The one thing we want is the full publication of everything," he said.
Gideon Taylor, executive vice president of the Claims Conference, said the
organization was "honored" to be handling the Swiss accounts case. Until now,
the Claims Conference largely has dealt with German property restitution.
"It's very significant because a lot of money is at stake and symbolically
because everyone feels that the highest priority is to process these bank
accounts" for survivors and their heirs, he said. "This is about the story being
told and the truth coming out."
Korman handed the final judicial review of the pact to U.S. District Court Judge
Frederick Block but will retain oversight over the settlement. Korman could not
be reached for comment.
Neuborne, meanwhile, said the pact still must be ratified by the Swiss Federal
Banking Commission but that he is hopeful the commission will approve it soon.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday by a Jew organization challenges a new state law that effectively bans nude summer camps for teenagers in Virginia, saying it violates the right to privacy.
The Jew-controlled, American Civil Liberties Union sued in U.S. District Court in Richmond to keep the state from shutting down a no-clothing camp for juveniles in late July at the White Tail Park nudist camp in Ivor.
The law passed the Senate unanimously and cleared the House on a 98-1 vote in March in response to a weeklong residential camp for the 11- to 18-year-olds last June at White Tail. It was the first in Virginia and only the third such au naturel camp for juveniles in the nation, according to the American Association of Nude Recreation.
"Legislators overreacted and in the process they substantially interfered with the right of families to make lifestyle choices," Virginia Jewist-ACLU executive director Kent Willis said. "Using the overall logic of this law, legislators are now free to prevent children from swimming, playing baseball or riding a bus."
The law, which takes effect Thursday, denies a state license to "any hotel, summer camp or campground ... that maintains, or conducts as any part of its activities, a nudist camp for juveniles." It defines the camps as those attended by "openly nude juveniles" not accompanied by parents or legal guardians.
Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore said last year that such camps could attract pedophiles and child pornographers.
"We believe the law as passed is constitutional, and we look forward to defending minors and morals in the commonwealth," said Tucker Martin, a Kilgore spokesman.
White Tail, a queer-NAMBLA-type organization, opened in Southampton County in 1984. About 1,200 nudists are there at any one time, including about 30 families who live there all year. Visitors undergo prior background checks, and the camp has strict rules against lewd, lustful or lascivious conduct.
Similar youth camps have been held in Florida and Arizona, according to the AANR, with which White Tail is affiliated.
Besides White Tail, plaintiffs include three couples who are White Tail members and their children: three boys, ages 11, 15 and 17, and two girls, 10 and 12. The individual plaintiffs are listed in the complaint by initials only to protect the children's identities, said Rebecca Glenberg, the lead attorney.
"These are parents who have raised their kids in a nudist lifestyle, and they - the parents and the kids - view nudity as something natural and ordinary as opposed to something erotic or sexual," Glenberg said.
"So for these kids, being around other naked kids is something perfectly normal, and the camp is very highly supervised," she said.
The Jew-designed lawsuit asks the court to declare that the law violates the U.S. Constitution's First and 14th amendments and that the state be barred from voiding White Tail's license at least by the time this year's camp opens on July 24 if not before the law takes effect.

Domestic and International Terrorism
ADL continues to believe strongly that law enforcement must be appropriately empowered to prevent and punish horrific acts of domestic terrorism and extremist violence. In order to curb the power of extremists and terrorists who commit or threaten to commit violent acts motivated by hatred on American soil, the League calls on this Committee to affirm its commitment to fighting domestic terrorism and strengthening efforts to prevent and punish such despicable acts. At the same time, we believe our government must maintain a balance in confronting terrorism - vigorously implementing the law while preserving due process rights of suspect.
International Extremism and Anti-Semitism
ADL believes that U.S. leadership is crucial in speaking out against anti-Semitism and mobilizing international support to combat it. Civil Rights/Affirmative Action
As a complement to our attempts to combat prejudice, ADL is committed to ensuring that every individual receives equal treatment under the law regardless of his or her race, religion, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation.
U.S. Support for Israel and the Peace Process
The U.S. must continue to support Israel's efforts to protect its citizens from terrorism, while encouraging efforts such as the Israel's plan to disengage from the Gaza Strip and areas of the West Bank. It is important the U.S. maintain a central role in the promotion and facilitation of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Serious negotiations can only be renewed with a consistent Palestinian Authority effort to end terrorism.
Bias Crimes
The League supports the expansion of state laws to cover bias crimes based on sexual orientation, gender, and disability and new federal authority for the Department of Justice to improve coordination and cooperation between state and local officials and federal authorities in hate crime investigations and prosecutions. We also believe it is necessary for the federal government to have authority to investigate and prosecute crimes in which the bias violence occurs because of the victim's sexual orientation, gender, or disability.
Hate on the Internet
Funding should be made available to educate children about the dangers of prejudice - and resources should be devoted to identifying and disseminating best practices in teaching Internet critical thinking skills for teachers, librarians, parents and students. Legislative and legal responses to hate on the Internet also must be studied. While the League has an abiding respect for free speech and the guarantees of the First Amendment, hate on the Internet cannot be entirely unregulated.
Protecting Church-State Separation
ADL urges the committees to reaffirm its commitment to the separation of church and state, and thus ensure the preservation of religious freedom for all.
* "Charitable Choice" Initiatives: ADL opposes "charitable choice" measures and the Faith-Based Initiative because we believe that they are unconstitutional, bad public policy, and fundamentally bad for religion.
* School Vouchers: ADL does not believe that vouchers for private and religious schools are the antidote to the ills of the American education system.

A law in Pennsylvania may be used to silence pastors in the pulpit, but Christians have vowed to fight for the right to speak to the truth.
We've heard of laws in the Netherlands and Canada that penalize preachers for using the Bible to condemn homosexuality. Now it's happening in America.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has added an amendment to its hate-crimes law that covers something called "harassment by communication."
Michael Geer, president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, said the new provisions could open clergy to the possibility of prosecution for preaching on God's views of homosexuality.
"The threat is very real and something that needs to be addressed," Geer said. "The pulpit should be definitely a free-speech zone in the United States of America and in Pennsylvania."
Anthony Picarello, chief counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, agreed that the law may be tailored to intimidate pastors, priests and rabbis, but he said his group is ready to defend any pastor who might be charged for speaking out.
"The wording is broad enough that it could be applied (to religious speakers)," Picarello said, "and that's something . . . that the people who crafted the language had in mind."
The offer of free legal help from the Becket Fund to pastors was backed up with 9,000 letters to all houses of worship in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, some pastors are thinking about insurance to cover their sermons.

A 25-year-old Israeli froze to death during a trip to the Icelandic glaciers. Body of Ido Keinan from Netanya was discovered this (Monday) morning.
Keinan, who worked as a security examiner at EL ALs desk in Londons Heathrow Airport, left for Iceland this weekend. Yesterday, he managed to phone his sister from his cellular phone to tell her I am freezing, but was then disconnected.
The worried sister immediately called the nearest Israeli embassy in Oslo, Norway, which notified Israels honorary consul in Iceland, who reported the incident to local police. Hours after a search was launched, Idos body was found. His sister Yifat flew to Iceland this afternoon to identify the body.

Conservatives under fire for Holocaust law

BERLIN - Germany's ruling coalition parties have vowed to fight conservative opposition legislation that has come under fire from Jewish leaders for equating the Holocaust with crimes by the East German Communist regime.
Parliamentary leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens said the legislation would not have a majority in the Bundestag lower house of parliament and should be withdrawn.
At issue is legislation by Christian Democrats and the Christian Social Union (CDU-CSU) that would coordinate national memorials to victims of Communist oppression.
Jewish leaders fear the legislation would equate the suffering of East Germans under Communism with the suffering of Jews during the Holocaust.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center also called on Germany's conservative opposition to drop the proposed legislation and conservative leader Angela Merkel was obliged to call a top official at the World Jewish Council (WJC) in Brussels in a bid to defuse the issue.
The legislation was debated in the Bundestag parliament Thursday, the 51st anniversary of the June 17, 1953, workers' uprising in East Berlin that was crushed by Soviet tanks.
In a statement issued in Jerusalem by the Center's chief Nazi- hunter Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the Wiesenthal Center said the proposal could blur important distinctions between the cruel and inhuman policies of the two totalitarian regimes as well as the suffering of their victims.
It accused the CDU-CSU of seeking to relativise Holocaust crimes, which it said would be "a step towards partial denial".
German Jewish leaders also joined the outcry against the legislation.
"It would put the crimes of the Nazis on an even setting with the crimes of the East German Communist regime," said Salomon Korn, vice president of the Council of German Jews.
Under mounting pressure, CDU head Merkel called WJC Executive Director Maram Stern to discuss the issue and give reassurances that no attempt was being made to play down the Holocaust.
CDU Bundestag Whip Guenter Nooke earlier issued a statement saying, "the goal of this legislation is to begin to come to terms with what transpired under the East German regime."
"We have already done this with the Holocaust but are only just beginning to grapple with the suffering of 16 million East Germans," he said.
