Perhaps I am the only dummy in town, but I thank you very much for the
articles by Mike Jones on the "Revolutionary Jew." After reading these for
the third time Jones has me completely convinced that no "sect or version"
of Christianity has been able to protect its constituency from the
"predations of the Jews." This may not be what Jones intended with his
articles which are rife with "jesuetical errors" and the presuppositions of
all Roman Catholics. But that is the result. No version of the Christian
faith was capable of protecting its followers from the exploitations of the
Jews, revolutionary and otherwise. Indeed some versions of Christianity
appear to be enthusiastic supporters of the destruction wreaked by the Jews
in these societies, but none were "proof" or effective by holding the wall
against the Jews. So with that conclusion in place perhaps one should
consider a more effective Christian Church. How about ".44 Magnums for

In January, 1978, the tenth anniversary of MLK's
death,
the pupils in my daughter's 5th grade class was given
an assignment to write a poem in his honor. My wife
sent the teacher - a negress - a note requesting that
our daughter be given a different assignment. The
teacher, on reading the note, told our daughter that
she had already been given her assignment.
Upon being informed of that I felt positively inspired
to write a poem of my own. It appeared in the Jan.
1978
issue of "The Liberty Bell," published by George
Dietz.

Australia will donate another $3 million in humanitarian assistance to refugees in the Palestinian territories, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said today.
Mr Downer announced during a four-day visit to the Middle East that the new contribution brought estimated aid flow to the Palestinians to $11 million this financial year.
"I have announced a further contribution of $3 million in humanitarian assistance to refugees in the Palestinian territories," Mr Downer said in a statement.
The United Nations Relief and Workers Agency will receive $2 million and the International Committee of the Red Cross $1 million.
"Peace between Israel and the Palestinian people is possible," the statement said.

Our lax government will admit most of them and the foreign governments, like Mexico, are eager to ship their overflow to America. We need to seal our borders with something similar to the Berlin Wall and place troops all along it.

Gov't Hands Tied by Conservatives

Filipinos are becoming sexually active at a younger age, but the Philippine government feels its hands are tied by conservative groups, including the Catholic Church, that resist more active state involvement in population programmes and the use of artificial means of birth control.
MANILA, Jan 27 (IPS) - Twenty-three percent of young people aged 15 to 24 are sexually active in a country where Catholic mores frown on premarital sex, says the 2003 State of the Philippine Population Report.
The report used much of the fresh data of the 2002 Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Survey, a national study by the University of the Philippines Population Institute that interviewed nearly 30,000 youth across the country.
In the 1982 and 1994 surveys, the University of the Philippines established the average age of sexual initiation at 18. In 2002, the age of initial sexual activity changed slightly to 17.5. The study also found out that young people who had sex before age 15 has increased eightfold from less than two percent in 1994 to 16 percent in 2002.
For many, the first sexual encounter was a spontaneous event; 55 percent said it was something they did not plan to happen at that time, but went along with it anyway; 43 percent said it was something they wanted to happen at that time. But 40 percent of those who had their first sexual encounter said they did not have any means of protection.
The population report, published by the Commission on Population and the United Nations Population Fund, listed sex as something that happens often at the end of the occurrence and intermingling of risky behaviour such as smoking, drinking and drug use.
But amid this backdrop, Tomas Osias, executive director of the Commission on Population, says the government is treading on fragile ground, wanting to respond to young people's needs but also aware of the sensitivity of the matter.
²There is no clear policy if government would provide services to unmarried sexually active young persons,² he said.
Health centres run by the state in localities, he says, offer free health services but these are not ready for services appropriate for the young.
²To the conservatives, we are seen as promoting promiscuity and are allowing unmarried youth to have premarital sex every time we attempt to provide information and services on reproductive health, especially about sex education or the proper use of contraceptives, ² he said.
But the fact is that ²the more we withhold information from the youth, the more problems it would create,² said Cecille Villa, executive director of the Foundation for Adolescent Youth, which has peer education programmes for the youth.
The Catholic Church frowns on any artificial means of contraception, including the use of condoms, and sees their provision as encouraging premarital or casual sex, or sex outside marriage.
This stance has had a lot of influence in a political environment where politicians and governments are often wary of offending the Church, given that more than 80 percent of people in this country of 84 million people are Catholics.

In his latest work, Mexifornia: A State of Becoming, Victor Davis Hanson offers a report from immigration¹s front lines. An unusual but appealing mix of argument and autobiography, Mexifornia provides a compelling‹and frightening‹portrayal of the transformations that decades of mass immigration have wrought in the cultural and political fabric of California. Hanson¹s anecdotal account of his own life there‹from attending grade school with mostly Mexican-American classmates and working alongside Mexican laborers on his generations-old family farm, to confronting Mexican trespassers stealing fruit or dumping garbage on his property‹proves a most effective vehicle for conveying the deep costs our current wave of immigration has brought to his state: crime, poverty, inferior education, ethnic separatism, the creation of a new racial underclass, and a vague but insidious atmosphere of lawlessness and fear.
Critics of immigration have, of course, worried about these consequences since at least the 1980s. Hanson¹s book is more interesting for his spirited attack on a pair of unlikely allies who bear special responsibility for our current immigration mess: the corporate and libertarian right, and the multiculturalist left. Corporate America, eager for the quick profits of cheap labor but indifferent to the long-term costs for the country, has imported a class of diligent and cheap workers. Somewhere around age forty, however, these once-strong immigrant bodies give out, no longer able to sustain the physical grind of menial labor, leaving behind an ever-growing class of uneducated poor who are dependent for their survival on state assistance or crime and are permanently excluded from the prosperous world of middle-class America, with only their bitterness to bequeath their children. (Given the tendency to dismiss as racist all criticisms of immigration from the right, it is worth emphasizing the considerable empathy with which Hanson describes the plight of these Mexican immigrants.)
Hanson is even more critical, however, of the "race industry" on the multicultural left. Their program of bilingualism and ethnic separatism, combined with an unshakeable faith in the deep racism of mainstream America, divides the state into warring ethnic groups and denies to immigrants the opportunity for the only kind of education‹in history and civics, literature and mathematics‹that could equip them for success in their new country. Noting persistent Mexican educational failure under the multiculturalist regime, Hanson pointedly writes, "[I]t is now legitimate to question the very motives of some in the . . . movement: do they wish the best for the children of aliens who are poor, or continued spoils for themselves who are affluent?" Indeed.
We should not imagine, though, that Hanson¹s indictment applies only to agribusiness and multiculturalism. They may have most actively pursued the policies behind our current problems, but many more are complicit in the fiasco. Indeed, confronted by Hanson¹s criticisms, we all stand in the dock‹all of us ordinary Americans who have made "the Devil¹s bargain . . . to avoid cutting our own lawns, watching our own kids, picking our peaches, laying our tile, and cleaning our toilets." If we think that only others are to blame, we deceive ourselves.
If the decay runs this deep, what are we to do? Apart from maintaining the disastrous status quo, Hanson offers three alternatives. We could permit continued high levels of legal and illegal immigration, but embark on a serious new program of Americanization, replacing bilingualism and multiculturalism with an insistence on quick assimilation; we could forgo assimilation and make our peace with multiculturalism, but crack down on illegal immigration while also curtailing legal immigration; or‹Hanson¹s preferred approach‹we could both restrict immigration and insist upon assimilation by those immigrants who do come.
Having surveyed these possibilities, Hanson ends on a note of guarded optimism: "To recover our state, our region, and ultimately our nation, we still need not do everything right." Yet his own arguments underline the difficulty of any of the three alternatives he proposes. This becomes clear from his discussion, in the book¹s most interesting and provocative chapter, of American popular culture as an engine of assimilation. In spite of having abandoned traditional efforts to assimilate immigrants, we have been granted a reprieve from chaos, Hanson argues, only because American popular culture has proved extraordinarily powerful at incorporating people of all backgrounds into a single global culture that is accessible to all because it rests upon lowest-common-denominator appeals to basic human passions. "Globalization can now unite any two people from the most disparate backgrounds in taste, appearance, and manner of daily life." This has serious costs, because it substitutes "schlock" for real culture, "exchange[s] standards and taste for raw inclusiveness," and at best "gives America a few years of respite before we must deal with the catastrophe that we are not educating millions, not teaching them a common and elevated culture, and not addressing the dilemma of open borders."
At the same time, this popular culture is relentlessly and radically democratic and egalitarian, creating a historically unprecedented situation in which age-old barriers of race, class, and sex are destroyed among a mass of people who wear the same clothes, listen to the same music, watch the same television shows, and buy the same consumer goods. Without these homogenizing effects, Hanson suggests, we could not have gotten away even this long with our unwillingness to promote a more substantial common culture in the face of mass immigration.
Unfortunately, these effects of the popular culture raise deep questions about the possibility of Hanson¹s various alternatives for righting the ship. Any approach that merely seeks to cut immigration levels without addressing the issue of assimilation seems bound to fail, for it would leave the task of Americanization to the popular culture. But, as Hanson notes, such "superficial immersion in American culture is no substitute for real civic education about American history, culture, and values." Sustaining a valuable culture does not happen automatically; it requires real work. As Hanson writes, "Our elites do not understand just how rare consensual government is in the history of civilization." If we wish it to endure, we must actively seek to maintain it.
So the only real alternatives are those that include genuine attention to the task of preserving a common culture capable of sustaining self-government. Yet Hanson¹s discussion of popular culture leaves one deeply pessimistic about the possibility of launching a new program of assimilation. For as familiarity with the historic American culture vanishes behind "the high-decibel magnetism of popular entertainment and its ferocious dumbing-down to the level of easiest comprehension and acceptance," into what exactly do we propose to assimilate newcomers? And who, apart from Hanson and a few others, will know how to do the assimilating? Who will even want to?
Any proposal to give immigrants a "real civic education about American history, culture, and values" presupposes that significant numbers of Americans still know what those are. But Hanson¹s discussion of the popular culture calls that assumption into question. Despite its optimistic close, Hanson¹s entire book describes a country in serious moral decline‹from the lawless illegal immigrants themselves, to the "race hustlers" who preserve their own power by creating an ethnic clientele of unassimilated dependents; from the agribusiness corporations, chasing quick profits without regard for long-term public consequences, to the ordinary American citizens who, out of laziness or selfishness, insist on cheap gardeners and nannies while leaving their grandchildren to deal with the social effects of illegal immigration. If the possible solutions that Hanson proposes seem, on the evidence of his own arguments, unlikely, that is in part, at least, because he offers no indication of how such decline can be reversed.
In light of this moral decline, it is useful to consider what resources religion has to offer in building support for a renewed defense of a common American culture. Whether Hanson himself would agree with the following observations, I do not know, since he does not discuss religion. Nevertheless, his account of our immigration dilemma suggests three main obstacles (the enumeration is mine, not his) to a reassertion of America¹s cultural and political identity. A culture informed by a Christian sensibility can potentially help counter all three.
The first obstacle is cultural relativism, with its denial that "some other cultures and nations have been not merely different, but often far worse at providing freedom and security for their people." Christian moral principles, by contrast, provide ethical standards for judging between governmental systems or ways of life that do better or worse jobs of permitting human beings to flourish. At the same time, because it emphasizes human fallibility and counsels humility, a Christian outlook guards against triumphalism. It permits us to affirm and defend what is good in our own tradition without insisting that all people everywhere adopt precisely the same tradition.
Hanson¹s second obstacle to a renewed insistence on assimilation is the corrosive effect of the popular culture already described. By undermining standards of taste and discernment and appealing (through the drive for profit) to those basic human passions shared by the broadest possible audience, it gradually substitutes a culture that is cosmopolitan but low for one more distinctively American. A Christian ethics, by reasserting the importance of standards, can exercise a check on this downward slide and thus reopen a space for maintaining a richer culture, one that elevates us above our lowest instincts. In doing so, it can help us understand (in Burke¹s famous phrase) that "art is man¹s nature"‹that we become more fully human precisely through the cultural traditions that distinguish us from other peoples, with their own distinctive traditions.
Finally, there is the question of whether we are willing to defend our own way of life. Even if we recognize its value, after all, it need not follow that we think ourselves justified in maintaining it, particularly when doing so requires‹as it does in the immigration context‹summoning the coercive power of the state (and a relatively privileged state, at that) against needy and vulnerable outsiders in search of a better life. The trend of much contemporary political thought‹especially those versions of liberalism (they are not its only versions) that regard all political assertions of cultural norms as "impositions"‹is that we are not so justified. The Christian moral tradition, to be sure, regards the use of force against such people as requiring justification. Yet it also reminds us that in addition to our universal obligations to all human beings as humans, we also have, as creatures of time and space, special obligations towards those people with whom we stand in special relationships‹family, neighbors, countrymen. In so doing, it helps us see that the preservation of our common life can indeed be a justifiable political endeavor.
Insofar as Christianity remains a vital force in American society, then, it provides potential resources for defending Hanson¹s proposed policies‹and for justifying, at least sometimes, the defense of our common life. Whether that defense is justified in any particular case, of course, calls for careful political and ethical reflection. But if Victor Davis Hanson is right, we had better not reflect too long.

I ran across your page coincidently one day after viewing an HBO special on hate groups and the Internet. Your page certainly does fit into the type described.
I should state up front (since you value such information) that I am "white" (German, British, and Irish ancestry) and highly educated (doctorate and two master's degrees).
I am not writing to engage in an ideological debate because that would quickly degenerate into a circular argument. But, what I find most interesting (and disturbing) is that you never mention the one inevitable fact: no matter how much you write, criticize, complain, and cry about "whites" becoming a minority, demographics will always win and change, as President Kennedy wisely said, is the only constant in the universe.
Your movement, though certainly assisted by the Internet, represents less than 0.1% of the U.S. population (as former academics, I thought you'd appreciate an empirical fact). Also, you and your ideological counterparts always refer, implicitly or explicitly, to "war" or "conflict" in this country "between the races." That will be impossible for a couple of reasons.
As already noted, you're in the absolute minority. Second, our military is composed of a majority of "minorities" who would be a deciding factor in such a conflict. Third, your simplistic, narrow views of human evolution do not recognize the fact that all of human history is one of what you call "miscegenation" and blending of language, culture, and ideologies. What is occurring in the US as well as Europe and Japan is historical and not unusual.
Lastly, you ignore the fact that most "whites" either have accepted multiculturalism or participate in it via intercultural or interracial marriages (this is also an empirical fact, not one person's opinion). Thus, your views are not even shared by most of those that you consider to be "your people" (myself included).
I have personally visited over 20 countries and speak four languages. I'm sorry you cannot escape your world of hate and enjoy what the world has to share.
Ed. Note: The people who conceived and direct our descent into the jungle disagree with you. They see the need for active measures. If mixing were as natural as you claim, they'd hardly need to propagandize it in every school and from every media outlet. What the world has to "share" is mostly undesirable. Perhaps you enjoy muti or sutee or some of the darkies' other advanced practices, and think highly of yourself for it, but I and most whites -- who vote with their feet by moving away from coloreds -- do not.

Anyone puzzled by the vast difference between European and American
attitudes toward Israel ought to spend some time comparing two
newspapers: The New York Times and the Paris-based International
Herald Tribune.
That may seem like an odd statement, since the IHT is owned by the
Times and most of its articles are Times reprints - or at least, so
the reader would assume, as they are credited to the Times and
appear under Times reporters' bylines.
But it turns out that IHT editors often "improve" the Times copy a
bit. The adjustments are minor in terms of the amount of text
changed, yet sufficient to give the reader a completely different
understanding of events.
I discovered this only last month, having never before thought to
compare an IHT article to its Times original. What sparked the
discovery was a piece in the IHT's December 27-28 edition, entitled
"Israeli tactics assure future bombings, Palestinians assert" and
credited to the Times. The article's main thrust was that the Israel
Defense Forces believes its two-pronged anti-terror campaign -
construction of the separation fence and frequent raids aimed at
arresting terrorists and destroying bomb-making facilities - has
significantly reduced the number of successful attacks.

But the article also claimed that the December 25 bombing at the
Geha Junction ended a three-month period that "seemed to be a sort
of unofficial cease-fire. In that time, Palestinian radical groups
carried out no suicide bombings."
This struck me as outrageous, since a cease-fire implies that no
attacks were attempted - whereas, according to IDF statistics, there
were no fewer than 22 attempted suicide bombings during that time,
all foiled by Israel's security forces. But when I checked the
article on the Times Web site (http://www.honestreporting.com/a/r/713.asp)
in preparation for an angry letter to that paper, I discovered the
following:
- The Times never referred to this period as a cease-fire.
- The Times explicitly mentioned that "numerous terror attempts" had
been made during this period and were thwarted by Israel; that
entire paragraph was cut from the IHT piece.
- The Times did not say that Palestinians "carried out no suicide
bombings," giving the false impression that they attempted none; it
merely said, correctly, that no bombings took place.
Moreover, the Times article carried a very different -- and far more
accurate -- headline:
"Bombing after lull: Israel still believes the worst is over."
The result is that the average Times reader came away with the
following impression: Israel's military activity produced three
months in which no Israelis were killed, despite "numerous terror
attempts." This activity is thus saving Israeli lives, and therefore
potentially justifiable.
But the IHT reader received the opposite impression: Neither the
fence nor the raids were justified, since there was an "unofficial
cease-fire" and Palestinians were not committing attacks in any
case. Moreover, since no attempts took place during this period,
Israel's activity did not save a single life.
In short, rather than preventing bombings, Israel is, as the IHT
headline asserts, "assuring future bombings" by persecuting the
Palestinians for no reason.
The IHT later published a letter from me on this subject, but again
with crucial distortions. One sentence was cut altogether: "The
version of the article that appeared in The New York Times did
mention that 'numerous' attempted attacks were thwarted during this
period and did not refer to it as a 'cease-fire.'"
Another sentence -- "according to Israeli army statistics,
Palestinians attempted to carry out 22 suicide bombings during this
time" -- was replaced by "according to one count, Palestinians
attempted to carry out more than 20 suicide bombings during this
time."
Thus the IHT cut both of the sources I cited for my assertion that
attacks were attempted -- the Times and the IDF -- and substituted an
unsourced "according to one count." That leaves the reader with the
impression that I have no source -- I cannot even say according to
whose count -- and my assertion is therefore not credible.
Since this episode, I have discovered that the IHT often subtly
alters Times copy to make its readers dislike Israel more.
On January 2, for instance, the Times ran an article stating that in
1973, the Nixon administration considered invading three Arab
countries "if the [oil] embargo, imposed by Arab nations in
retaliation for America's support for Israel in the 1973 Middle East
war, did not end." The IHT altered this to state that Nixon planned
to invade "if tensions between Israel and its Arab neighbors
continued to escalate after the October 1973 Middle East War or if
the oil embargo did not abate."

Moreover, the IHT erased the statement -- repeated twice in the Times
article -- that the embargo was due to America's wartime support for
Israel, substituting the statement that it was imposed "to try to
pressure the United States and other Western countries to force
Israel to withdraw from Arab land."
Thus the Times reader concludes that Nixon was angered by an Arab
action, the embargo, which was retaliation for an American action --
wartime support for an ally. Israel was clearly involved, but this
was primarily an Arab-American dispute.
The IHT reader, in contrast, concludes that Nixon's main concern was
not the Arab action, but "tensions between Israel and its Arab
neighbors"; the embargo gets only second billing. Moreover, the
embargo was aimed not at American policy, but at a mysterious
Israeli seizure of Arab land whose background -- the fact that it was
captured in a defensive war -- is never explained. In short, the
entire crisis was Israel's fault.
Very few people know more about Israel than what they learn from the
media. It is therefore not surprising that readers fed on a diet of
such subtle distortions view Israel as the villain.
Unfortunately, in Europe the IHT's behavior is the norm rather than
the exception.

An arrogant gang of so-called scholars and journalists is conducting a very public crucifixion of Mel Gibson for daring to make his new film, "The Passion of the Christ," and it's about time that the motives behind their attempt to destroy him were examined.
To begin at the beginning, after being alerted to the film by Gibson's appearance on the Bill O'Reilly show and by a sleazy New York Times magazine smear of Gibson's father, a group falsely depicting itself as an official arm of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) got its hands on a shooting script of the film, then in the first stages of production in Italy, and charged that it was a historically flawed work that would promote anti-Semitism.
Unreported was the real motive behind the complaint: This group of Catholic and Jewish revisionists doesn't think very highly of the New Testament, which the Roman Catholic Church for 2,000 years has insisted was inspired by the Holy Spirit and is therefore, as other Christian churches agree, unerrant.
Based on these scholars' own historical research, which simply contradicts the most basic tenets of Christianity, they charge that the New Testament is based on the prejudices of the apostles and rigged by their successors. One of them even claimed that the Gospel accounts of Christ's passion and death were written to curry favor with the Romans - the same Romans who returned the favor by gleefully executing many of them.
After their first attacks on the film based on their perusal of a stolen, rough, shooting script were met by the rejoinder that the film, then simply titled "The Passion," is solidly based on the Four Gospels and is therefore factual, the critics charged that the Gospels themselves can be construed as anti-Semitic and therefore any script based on them can be expected to stir up anti-Semitism among viewers.
To put it simply, these revisionist scholars are telling the world that the Gospels can't be trusted and, by implication, that the biblical story of Christ's passion and death is at the very least partially fictional because it is slanted in favor of the Romans and, in their warped opinions, historically inaccurate.
But the details in the New Testament accounts of Christ's passion and death are not the only evidence backing their authenticity. There is another source - one just as vivid as Gibson's film in showing the incredible horrors Jesus endured in the last 12 hours of his life.
That source is the Holy Shroud of Turin, an artifact that has been subjected to much of the same kind of treatment Mel Gibson is now enduring.
I know a few things about the Shroud of Turin. I have been intrigued by it since I was a young boy, studied it for years, wrote a small book about it in 1996 and, just as Gibson has done, concentrated on Christ's ordeal at the hands of his Roman tormentors and executioners.
My motives were the same as Gibson's: to reveal in the most graphic manner possible what our Lord endured for all of us, to show the extent of his love for a flawed mankind.
The Shroud has been called "The Fifth Gospel." Experts of all kinds, from forensic medical examiners to widely respected Israeli horticulturists, have testified as to its authenticity. Others have all but demolished the widely reported Carbon 14 testing that allegedly dated the Shroud to the 14th century.
What the Shroud depicts are the terrible wounds inflicted on Jesus by the scourging. It reveals that the Lord was whipped by Roman flagrums, some 120 marks caused by double-thonged flagrums with barbell-shaped pieces of metal or bone embedded in their tips.
The Shroud reveals that Jesus was scourged by two men, one taller than the other, and that all over his torso his flesh was deeply lacerated and torn from his body by the thongs and their cruel tips.
The Shroud reveals the wounds inflicted on Christ's head by the so-called crown of thorns and shows it to have been a cap rather than a crown. Christ was the only victim of crucifixion ever to have such a cap placed atop his skull.
The Shroud, whose image does not penetrate the linen but floats mysteriously on its surface, is stained with his blood, which did sink into the fibrils.
Step by step, Christ's final hours can be traced. The face of the man on the Shroud bears mute testimony to the beatings he endured at the hands of Romans, his knees show the contusions caused when he fell on the rough surfaces as he carried the patibulum, the crosspiece of his cross, to Calvary. And his shoulders show the wounds caused by the 100-pound patibulum digging into them.
The Shroud shows the nail marks in his wrists, testifying to the agony Christ endured when the nails rubbed against the great and highly sensitive median nerves located there.
In my book, "Sancta Sindone," I was able to follow Christ as he endured the final 12 hours of his life, just as Mel Gibson has now done. His source was the Gospels, mine the Shroud and medical experts who interpreted what it showed.
Our accounts agree in most details. (Mel shows Christ carrying the complete cross; the Shroud shows he carried only the patibulum, which on Calvary was affixed atop the stipes, the upright piece embedded in the ground. And Mel shows the nails being pounded into Christ's palms, while the Shroud shows them penetrating his wrists).
The whole story is told in my book, which, although dated and overcome by new evidence of its authenticity, allows the reader to learn the basic facts about the Shroud and follow Christ step by step to Calvary. Jewish education can begin in first year of life

Jewish educators now believe it is possible to begin giving children a Jewish education before they're even a year old.
"By 9 months of age, children 'play' with a variety of sounds they hear in their environment. If they are exposed to Hebrew sounds - through language, music or Israeli songs - in a legitimate way, [the sounds] can be 'hard-wired' into the brain and the children can pick it up later," Ilene Vogelstein, coordinator of the early childhood department at the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education, told Jewish educators here last week.
Vogelstein spoke to some 100 preschool educators from across the country who gathered in Atlanta to discuss the latest findings in brain research, Hebrew teaching techniques and curriculum development at the Union of Reform Judaism's (URJ) Jewish Early Childhood Education Conference.
At one session, Vogelstein cited research indicating that critical brain development occurs from birth until age 6 and that by 14, the brain gradually "prunes" the number of synapses - the brain's connections between neurons through which nerve impulses travel - down to adult levels.
"We know that we can modify or determine the structure of brain centers in these critical years," she said. "We need to build pathways through culturally rich Jewish preschools to hard-wire children to be part of the Jewish community."
Preschool is also a critical time for teachers to identify potential social and learning difficulties, said Vogelstein.
Joy Salenfriend, director of the Schiff Preschool at Temple Emanu-El, says preschool teachers are better trained these days to notice sensory and auditory processing challenges and behavior issues in their young students.
"There's a reason for the [behaviors] we see in kids. We can be a support to parents at a really crucial time," she said.
Yet getting parents on board can be "amazingly difficult," said Lynne Rednik, a preschool director from Cherry Hills, N.J. "As far as 'special needs' has come, it still has a negative connotation."
Salenfriend says early Jewish learning can also benefit a child's family.
"We're not only educating the child, we're educating a family. We have so many people who never celebrated Shabbat or Havdalah. We help make it comfortable and easy to celebrate and practice Judaism. Everything we teach is from a Jewish perspective."
For example, Temple Emanu-El preschoolers recently learned about Martin Luther King Jr. in the context of Jewish values - the mitzvah of welcoming guests, creating a shalom bayit (peaceful home) and how the African slaves were like the Jewish slaves in Egypt.
Last week, in Joanne Grabia's class of 4-year-olds, children wore "Nobel Prizes" around their necks, awarded in recognition of doing something special to promote peace in their classroom or home.
Grabia and Salenfriend also presented their Martin Luther King curriculum at the conference.
"Everything is hands on," said Salenfriend, describing how the children cracked open brown and white eggs to discover they are the same on the inside.
According to Sheila Riegel, associate director of Atlanta's Jewish Educational Services, approximately 1,800 children are enrolled in area Jewish preschool programs.
And that education can carry a hefty price tag.
For example, Temple Emanu-El members can send their 18-month-old to school two days a week for $2,502 over nine months; the five-day program runs $4,563.
Robin Singer, a Judaics specialist and a parent in the Weisberg Preschool of Temple Kol Emeth in Marietta, knows first-hand the costs of Jewish preschool.
"Jewish parents are limited in their preschool options. I'd say church-based programs are a third of the cost of Jewish preschools, but we're willing to pay for the best," she said.
Nancy Bossov, the URJ's director of early childhood education, says last week's conference, now in its fourth year, is proof of the importance of preschool in the Jewish community.
"Preschool educators are finally getting recognition for the value that they contribute."

Into the Crosshairs
Israeli officials have signaled that they are again targeting the leader of Hamas, Sheik Ahmed Yassin, for assassination. They shouldn't.
It's not that Yassin doesn't deserve to die. He has, without an ounce of shame, sent suicide bombers to attack Israeli civilians and soldiers, and he has said Hamas will never rest until the Jewish state is eradicated.
Far from being a "spiritual" leader - as he often is styled in the captions of pictures showing him in the wheelchair to which he has been confined for half a century - he is a vicious, malevolent killer. If Israel had known exactly how implacable his hatred is, it surely would not have released him from prison in 1997.
Since then, Israel has tried several times to kill him, generally in response to yet another Hamas atrocity. Last September, it bombed a Gaza City apartment building where he was meeting with other Hamas leaders. Yassin escaped with a light wound because Israel used too small a bomb, in an effort to avoid exactly the sort of civilian casualties that he delights in inflicting on Israeli innocents.
Targeting Yassin is not an issue of morality. Killing him could be justified either as an act of revenge or as an efficient way to decapitate the Hamas leadership and make it less able to carry out further attacks.
Most of the civilized world would be as pleased to have him gone as they were to have Saddam Hussein deposed and his brutal sons killed.
Indeed, the Palestinian people as a whole would be a lot better off without the sheik and his swarm. What good, after all, did it do them to have Reem al-Reyashi, a 22-year-old mother of two children, blow up herself and four Israelis at the Erez crossing in Gaza last week? It cost thousands of Palestinians the opportunity to work in Israel while the crossing was closed. And, of course, the brutal act didn't affect Israeli determination not to be terrified.
Still, killing Yassin would probably not advance Israel's security. It would give him the martyrdom that he has repeatedly said he seeks and it would surely incite other bombings. Better by far to try to capture Yassin alive and toss him back in prison. Think of the impact that could have on his followers to show him Saddam-style as a prisoner.
Israel should not lose sight of its goal, which is to reduce the level of violence and to give the Palestinians time to come to their senses. Killing Yassin would have the opposite effect.
The Ambassador's Protest
Israel's ambassador to Sweden wasn't acting diplomatically when he trashed the "art" work at the Museum of National Antiquities in Stockholm last week, but he sure did the morally right thing.
Invited to a gala opening, Ambassador Zvi Mazel was infuriated to see the smiling photo of the suicide bomber who killed 22 people at Haifa's Maxim restaurant in October floating serenely on a model boat in a large basin of blood-red water. After reading the accompanying text justifying her terrorism, Mazel pulled the plugs on the exhibit's floodlights and tossed one into the basin, causing a short circuit. "This was not a piece of art," he said. "It was a monstrosity, an obscene distortion of reality."
He is correct. Art can rightly urge us to reflect on genocide - think of Picasso's Guernica - but it has no business praising it. That isn't art, it's propaganda and it deserves to be trashed as vigorously and undiplomatically as possible.

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - A former Lebanese militia chief has told a court he was forcibly sodomised on the order of an Israeli secret service interrogator who then left him shackled and soaking in excrement for almost two weeks.
Too ashamed to repeat the order allegedly given by an intelligence major codenamed "George", Mustafa Dirani spelled it out to the Tel Aviv court hearing his civil suit for 6 million shekels in damages for the 1994 interrogation.
Dirani was summoned at short notice to testify because he is to be repatriated in a prisoner swap on Thursday between Israel and Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbollah. The state said he had concocted the charges.
Israeli commandos abducted Dirani in 1994 in the hope of trading him for information on missing air force navigator Ron Arad. Dirani's Amal militia captured Arad in 1986. Dirani told interrogators he had handed the airman to Iran, but on Tuesday he said this confession was false and forced out of him.
Dirani accused George of ordering a soldier to sodomise him within days of his capture, and described another incident in which he said a police baton was inserted into his rectum.
"The pain was indescribable," said the bearded and bespectacled Dirani, 52, who needed a walking stick to take the stand. "I screamed out to God and then he took it out."
Prosecutor Shammai Becker dismissed the charges as having "no basis whatsoever". He accused Dirani of trying to justify to his countrymen information he divulged in Israel. "The interrogators didn't touch a hair on his beard," Becker said.
According to security sources, George was suspended after Dirani filed a complaint through his lawyer. A picture of George presented to court showed a broad-shouldered man lounging in a stripped sweater.

His Arabic testimony translated into Hebrew, Dirani quoted George's threats before the alleged rape, but stopped short of profanity. "They said they were going to S-C-R-E-W me," he said, adding: "In our community we don't use such words."
Dirani said he spent most of the next two weeks shackled and wearing adult diapers that left him soaked in urine and faeces.
"They wanted to know how they transferred Ron Arad by car, but I did not see. I wasn't there. They wanted details I did not have," Dirani said, insisting that he had only confessed to involvement in the airman's handover to Iran under torture.
Dirani, who said he oversaw interrogations as Amal security chief, told the court Arad spent the first night in captivity at his home and that he did not know what became of him thereafter.
Yet under cross-examination Dirani said that when he broke away from Amal with other militiamen two years later, they took Arad with them. He did not give further details.
In Thursday's exchange, Israel is to free 436 prisoners, most of them Palestinians, in return for an Israeli businessman held by Hizbollah and three Israeli soldiers, now presumed dead.
Israel denies its security services use torture. In 1996 the Supreme Court allowed "moderate physical pressure" -- including sleep deprivation and violent shaking of a subject -- in urgent counterterrorism cases, a ruling decried by human rights groups.
Security sources said Dirani was interrogated in Facility 1391, a secret prison reserved for top-priority foreign captives. The Supreme Court is expected next month to consider an Israeli rights group's appeal to shut down Facility 1391.

Council of Europe Reproached Bulgaria for Minority Discrimination

Bulgaria still drags leg with stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination practices against minority groups, particularly Roma, as well as against immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), Council of Europe's expert body on combating racism, wrote in its report presented in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
The ECRI outlined the serious problems connected with the excessive use of firearms and force by Bulgarian police against Roma, and draw attention to the segregation of Roma children in schools.
According to the report, the new Denominations Act passed in 2002 does not remedy all the shortcomings as regards freedom of religion in Bulgaria.
Besides Bulgaria, the ECRI has released reports on examining racism, xenophobia, anti-semitism and intolerance in Belgium, Norway, Slovakia and Switzerland.
Nevertheless, the Commission recognised that in all of these five Council of Europe member countries positive developments have occurred.
These reports form part of a third cycle of monitoring of Council of Europe member States' laws, policies and practices in order to combat racism. Their purpose is to examine if ECRI's main recommendations from previous reports have been followed, and if so, with what degree of success and effectiveness.
Bulgarian government's official stance refuted any allegations in exercising xenophobic, racist or discriminatory activities against its national minorities, including the Roma population. No supporting facts thereof have been presented by the ECRI's report, Bulgaria claimed.

Mayor: North's racism must be tackled
It is the duty of all people in the North to tackle racism, a rally was told today.
Belfast's Lord Mayor Martin Morgan told a rally attended by around 500 people that society needed to act in unity to ensure that the city was "not dragged down by bigotry, hatred and intolerance".
Mr Morgan insisted that there could be no selectivity about threats or violence from any group against sections of society.
The SDLP mayor said: "All political and community leaders and people with influence have a responsibility to speak out against such attacks whether they are racist or sectarian.
"We must not be selective but should condemn all acts of violence or threatening behaviour from whatever source, without reservation, as a scourge in our society.
"Neither is it the sole responsibility of politicians and government to address racism.
"Every man and woman has a leadership role to play in addressing racism.
"It may be by writing a letter to a paper, talking to a relative or empathising with victims or by joining groups.
"Our roles are limited but not irrelevant."
Today's rally outside Belfast City Hall coincided with the city hosting the UK commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day.
It was organised by the Anti-Racism Network in conjunction with the trade union movement.
Among those who attended the rally were Sinn Fin leader Gerry Adams and the party's chief negotiator Martin McGuinness, Progressive Unionist leader David Ervine, Eileen Bell, the deputy leader of the cross-community Alliance Party, senior Ulster Unionist Michael McGimpsey and SDLP Assembly members John Dallat, Alex Attwood and Patricia Lewsley.
Among those who addressed the rally were representatives of the Chinese and Islamic communities as well as Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Nigel Williams.
At the start of today's rally a statement was read which was endorsed by the main political parties in Northern Ireland condemning racism and urging all sections of society to deal with the problem.
Anna Lo, of the Chinese Welfare Association, said during her address that her community had experienced racial abuse and attacks in recent years.
She recalled the murder of Simon Tang in Carrickfergus in 1996.
She urged people in Northern Ireland not to let racism develop further and not to let Belfast become known as the racist capital of Europe.

Swiss told to step up anti-racism efforts
Switzerland has been criticised by a European body for failing to make sufficient progress in combating racism and intolerance.
The report released by the Council of Europe on Tuesday also noted the hardening of political attitudes towards foreigners and police abuses.
Responding to the findings, the Swiss authorities admitted that some of the criticisms were justified.
The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), which wrote the report, said Switzerland had made progress in combating discrimination in some areas but there remained much work to be done.
"Progress remains fairly limited in a number of areas," said the executive secretary of ECRI, Isil Gachet.
"We are preoccupied with some cases of discriminatory treatment by the police towards members of certain minority groups and in particular black Africans," she told swissinfo.
On a positive note, the ECRI welcomed Switzerland's new constitution, which came into force in 2000, which prohibits discrimination, as well as Swiss plans to extend criminal law provisions to combat racism.
However, there were more brickbats than bouquets for the Swiss.
The commission said that the Swiss authorities had to do more to ensure that cantonal and federal authorities, as well as the general public, were aware of the constitution's anti-discrimination clause.
Police abuses
The police were also criticised, in particular for their conduct towards black Africans.
The European body reported that members of this minority group were subjected to frequent identity checks and were often taken into custody for no reason.
It also criticised the practice of closing off certain areas of towns and cities to members of ethnic groups, which affected mostly young black asylum seekers.
It was noted that there was no independent mechanism in place to investigate allegations of police violence, resulting in a lack of redress for victims.
The ECRI recommended more police training to clamp down on incidences of violence towards foreigners.
This recommendation was deemed unnecessary by the Swiss government in its reaction to the commission's findings.
"Issues such as xenophobia and police violence are systematically covered during basic police training," it said.
"The police are well aware that, given the numerous police operations carried out around the clock everyday, mistakes may sometimes occur," it added.
The government also denied that the police were racist: "We reject the assertion... that the Swiss police behave in a racist, discriminatory and violent way towards minorities, in particular black Africans."
Asylum seekers
The commission called on the Swiss authorities to do more to counter the negative public opinion about asylum seekers and refugees.
In particular, it said, politicians and the media should be more sensitive to this issue and learn to address it in a balanced fashion.
The ECRI was also concerned that accelerated procedures to deal with asylum applications at airports and detention centres might not give applicants sufficient time to make their case properly.
Michele Galizia, head of the Federal Anti-Racism Service, told swissinfo that the ECRI had listened too closely to the complaints of non-governmental organisations.
"Allegations made by NGOs were simply accepted, often uncritically. There could have been more understanding for Swiss federalism."
"In a country with a central administration, criticism can be dealt with more simply and measures taken directly. In Switzerland, each cantonal and municipal police force has to be engaged," he added.
However, Galizia agreed that the report was broadly correct.
"The findings were expected they reflect the situation in Switzerland."

The PC Police Push for Fascist Policies at UT-Austin

Recent events at The University of Texas at Austin have prompted many students, faculty and citizens to call for action in the name of improving race relations. Three incidents in particular are cited to convince people that something is needed to change the "unfriendly atmosphere" on campus. A few months ago some unknown person tossed eggs at the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a couple of other buildings on campus. The Daily Texan reported that certain students attending an off campus fraternity party wore "racist" attire. Also, the paper reported the claims of student Kevin Curry, who said that he was harassed by a police officer in the Union because he is black.
Many student leaders have demanded that the university do something to deal with its "historically racist" atmosphere. Courtney Morris, a member of African Americans for Radical Organizing, wrote a few months ago, "Promises of diversity have a hollow ring when student leaders and potential UT students are confronted with the reality of the university's systemic racism." President Larry Faulkner held a meeting in which he listened to such complaints and created a task force that just released its findings and recommendations. Certain points in this report while well intentioned in their formulation are startling and saddening in their effect.

Many students see this as an attempt to stifle meaningful discussion and debate about very serious racial issues. They say that when engaging in debate with radical students who resort to name calling, they refrain from asking tough questions about the real reasons behind small numbers of minority UT students. One student said that he recently asked a black student to explain the sub par academic performance of blacks as compared to the exemplary performance of Asian-Americans. Immediately the black student threw out the epithet, "racist", and walked out of the room. The same thing occurred to a student that suggested that society cannot afford a diverse workforce if it means sub par performance in fields involving life and death. He gave an example of the health care industry, arguing that if some medical students were allowed to get into medical school with lower standards, then it could be very dangerous for their future patients. This student was met with the same label as the first, and left the room discouraged by the discussion.
Until a real discussion can occur about racial issues in this country, a solution to the complex problems will not be determined. Fear of making important arguments that may be misconstrued as racist stifles positive discussion on these matters. Americans will only be able to solve real problems afflicting our society when we are able to allow all opinions to be examined with equal scrutiny. Dr. King would probably be appalled at the behavior of those who use the weapon of "political correctness" to limit acceptable arguments in a debate about racial issues.
Any attempt at codifying so called "offensive speech", relocating statues of historical persons or requiring students to attend sensitivity training are political correctness at its worst. I urge every student at UT to read the recent task force recommendations and think clearly about the issues. No one has the right not to be offended in this country. I am offended every day by statements made about the nation I love, the President I support and the religion I profess. But that does not entitle me to some sort of protection from the speech of others, in order to prevent my feelings from being hurt. We should allow the marketplace of ideas to deem racist speech racist, offensive speech offensive and hurtful speech hurtful. Those who are ignorant and hateful enough to use racial epithets of any kind, or to discriminate against someone for any reason will be left alone in their blissful and ignorant state of mind. Society will reject them by not doing business with them, by not talking with them and by not respecting them. Let us not ask someone else to enforce the boundaries of ideas or speech. Let the people, instead, be the ultimate arbiters of what speech is right and what speech is wrong. That is the very essence of our republic.

It doesn't take much to get slammed as a racist these days. Just ask Jennifer Cundiff.
Back in February 2001, the Southwest Airlines flight attendant was trying to coax passengers boarding a flight from Las Vegas to Kansas City to find their seats quickly so the plane could take off. "Eenie meenie minie moe," she said over the intercom, "pick a seat, we gotta go."
Cute and harmless, right? Not to two black passengers, it wasn't. Louise Sawyer and Grace Fuller, who are sisters, interpreted Cundiff's couplet as a racist insult and said they were sure it was intended to humiliate them. It was so upsetting, Fuller claimed, that it triggered a seizure and left her bedridden for days. Eventually the women sued, charging Southwest with violating their civil rights and inflicting physical and emotional distress.
If you're scratching your head in bewilderment at this point, you aren't alone. Unless you're old enough to remember flappers and speakeasies, you probably don't know that the words that originally followed "eenie, meenie, minie, moe" were "catch a nigger by the toe." Cundiff, who was 22, certainly didn't know. Like most of us, she grew up saying "catch a tiger by the toe" -- she had never heard the older, uglier version.
Ah, but innocence offers scant protection against contemporary racial victimology. Neither does common sense or the right to free speech. Any of those should have been reason enough for US District Judge Kathryn Vratil to summarily bounce the lawsuit as frivolous. Instead, she ruled that Cundiff's little rhyme "could be reasonably viewed as objectively racist and offensive," and said a jury would have to decide "whether Cundiff's remark was racist, or simply a benign and innocent attempt at humor."
The trial took place last week. A jury of eight deliberated for less than an hour before finding Cundiff and Southwest innocent of racism. Needless to say, the stewardess and the airline will not be reimbursed for the lost hours and legal fees this preposterous lawsuit has cost them. And that isn't all that they lost.
Every time a case like this occurs -- every time someone is sued or punished or forced to hire a lawyer just for expressing an opinion or making a comment that someone of a different color finds offensive -- all of us are left with a little less freedom of speech. Dismayingly, such cases seem be occurring more frequently than ever. Now and then one of these incidents draws national scorn. A few years ago, a vast wave of ridicule forced the mayor of Washington, DC, to rehire an aide who had been accused of racism and forced to resign for using the word "niggardly" -- a synonym for stingy -- in a conversation.
But most of the time, these cases end with racial correctness trumping fairness and free speech.
Consider a story out of Omaha last week. According to the Omaha World-Herald, several students at Westside High School were punished after they "plastered the school on Monday" -- Martin Luther King Day -- "with posters advocating that a white student from South Africa receive the 'Distinguished African American Student Award' next year." The posters featured a picture of junior Trevor Richards, whose family moved to Omaha from Johannesburg in 1998, smiling and giving a thumbs-up.
School officials tore the posters down, apparently in response to complaints from a few black students, and denounced them as "inappropriate and insensitive." Trevor was suspended for two days, according to his mother, and two of his friends were also penalized for helping to put the posters up. A fourth student, the World-Herald reported, "was punished for circulating a petition Tuesday morning in support of the boys. The petition criticized the practiced of recognizing only black student achievement with the award."
The students were punished, in other words, for expressing an opinion -- that it is wrong to create an award for which only black students can qualify. That is hardly an outlandish point of view. There are 1,843 students at Westside High, of whom fewer than 70 are black. Why should 96.2 percent of the student body be barred from a school honor on the basis of their race? Isn't that just the sort of offensive racial thinking that Dr. King condemned?
A message is not "inappropriate and insensitive" merely because some people complain about it -- not even if those people aren't white, and not even if the message is politically incorrect. The real outrage at Westside High last week was that four students were disciplined for exercising a freedom guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Other students may not have liked what they had to say. That didn't entitle them to suppress their speech.
The First Amendment says nothing about a right not to be offended. The risk of finding someone else's speech offensive is the price each of us pays for our own free speech. Free people don't run to court -- or to the principal -- when they encounter a message they don't like. They answer it with one of their own.

NEW YORK (CNN) --Actor and writer Spalding Gray, known for writing and starring in the autobiographical film "Swimming to Cambodia," has been reported missing.
The 62-year-old performer, who has appeared in movies such as "The Killing Fields," "Beaches," "The Paper" and "Kate & Leopold," disappeared over the weekend.
Gray's wife, Kathleen Russo, reported her husband missing at 7 p.m. Sunday, about 24 hours after he was last seen, a New York Police Department spokesman said.
She is believed to be staying at the couple's other home, in Sag Harbor, where their children live with a nanny.
A woman who answered the phone at that home told CNN that Gray's wife did not want to talk but "she just asks that you help us find him."
She said Gray "does have a history of depression but he has never disappeared like this before."
The investigation is being jointly conducted by the New York Police Department and the Southampton Town Police Department, the spokesman said.

Although the article doesn't specifically say, we'll assume the flight attendant is a Human, because speech controls have never been aimed at shit beasts.

Our first observation should be that the flight attendant was obviously delusional. She attempted social interaction with shitty animals, but the animals saw a foraging opportunity instead. Just as one shouldn't go around kissing rattlesnakes, one also shouldn't attempt treating shitty animals as Human. As sad as it might be, it is unlikely the flight attendant was ever a true racist.
Truly dedicated racists possess far more discipline than our flight attendant, and despite what goddamned jewish propaganda would have you believe, the Forces of Shit, more often than not, will decline a direct confrontation with a dedicated racist. Goddamned jews and shitskins tend to be cowardly for the most part. Shitty animals still follow nature's programming, from the days before the White Man had tamed them. Shitty beasts tend to prey on weak and defenseless Whites - culling worthless Whites out of our gene pool and thereby providing us with a valuable service. The nigger apes saw a de-racinated White flight attendant and decided to forage.
It should be obvious that the Forces of Shit were not looking for true racists. Because if they had been looking for true racists, all they'd have to do is to turn to White Revolution. ROME A poll on anti-Semitism in Europe Monday showed 46 percent of those asked said Jews in their nations were "different," and 35 percent said Jews should stop "playing the victim" for the Holocaust.
The poll by the Ipso research institute for Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera was conducted in Italy, France, Belgium, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Britain.
The poll, released a day before many European countries mark a day of remembrance for Holocaust victims, was the latest pointing to what Jewish leaders see as a worrying trend.
Asked if Jews in their countries had a "mentality and lifestyle" different than other citizens, 46 percent said yes.
About 40.5 percent said Jews in their country had "a particular relationship with money" and 35.7 percent said Jews "should stop playing the victim for the Holocaust and the persecutions of 50 years ago."
Nearly 18 percent said they felt Judaism was "intolerant" and nearly 17 percent did not consider Jews "real" compatriots.
Jewish leaders contacted by Reuters expressed concern over the findings.
"Obviously the virus of anti-Semitism is far more resilient and determined than we might have thought in the past," said British-born Rabbi David Rosen, international director of inter-religious affairs of the American Jewish Committee.
Rosen, who is based in Israel, said he believed there was a rise in anti-Semitism because of the half-century that has passed since the horrors of the last world war.
"The moral implications of anti-Semitism simply don't speak to a younger generation of Europeans," he said.
"What's more amazing than the percentage of people who hold those opinions is the percentage of people willing to express them," he added by telephone from Spain.
The poll suggested the attitude of Europeans toward Jews was linked to criticism of Israel over the Middle East conflict.
More than 71 percent of those polled said Israel should leave the occupied territories and Palestinians should stop attacking Israeli targets.
More than 68 percent said they believed Israel had a right to exist but the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was "making the wrong choices."
Nationalist feelings appeared to be higher in Italy.
While 46 percent overall said Jews were "different," that rose to 50.5 percent among Italians and while 16.9 percent said Jews in their countries were not "real" compatriots, that rose to 23.2 percent in Italy.
Tullia Zevi, Italy's best known Jewish leader, said she believed the results were linked to the rise in the number of Muslims in Italy, nearly all of them immigrants.
"They have carried with them a very negative attitude toward Zionism and Sharon. There seems to be a transfer of their attitude to others who are turning against the local communities that have existed here for centuries," she said.
Italy has the oldest Jewish community of the diaspora, dating back to Roman times.

As a member of several internet groups and the moderator of one, I've been impressed with the continuing underlying anti-semitism that marks several contributors. Impressed and appalled.

One of the perpetrators,
Ed. Note: 'Perpetrators,' as in criminals. Criminals guilty of...what? The crime of making Beaman cry? The crime of criticizing jews? Note as is always the case with the sycophants we might call anti-anti-semites, the "argument" immediately shifts from facts and evidence to feelings and labels. 'Anti-Semitism' has no objective meaning. It is a political attack masquerading as a normal word. By "anti-Semitism" Doc Beaman means: "I've come across an argument I can't or don't want to deal with, so I will smear and dismiss it by using this handy, Jew-supplied label." Beaman isn't interested in debating or arguing, but reinforcing the jew-set borders of allowed opinion.
Edgar Steele, lists abuses to which he has been subjected by Jews. It's a clever bit of sophistry. Jews are involved in some, and maybe even all, of the actions but there are some non-Jews, as well. He doesn't mention that.

In a recent posting, he talks about how ethnic jokes have gone by the boards and he cites the lack of "Rustus and Eliza" jokes, of late. I assume he means black jokes but what does that have to do with the Jews?
As far as ethnic jokes go, I enjoy them. They satirize stereotypes and let us laugh at them and ideally ourselves, too. I don't like jokes that make people look like fools. My ancestry is German-Irish and I enjoy Irish jokes. I also enjoy Italian, Jewish and Polish jokes. As far as German jokes, there don't seem to be that many, possibly because of what happened in World War II but Mel Brooks made a fortune out of offending everyone.
One time, in casual conversation at my hospital, I observed that my father-in-law's BMW motorcycle looked typically German. A Jewish intern said, "All business". I replied, "Well, yeah, but if I were riding down the street on a BMW and you were to come from the other end on anything else but, I would expect you to salute me." Everyone, including a listening black surgeon laughed. That could probably be considered an ethnic slur.
But let's not give all Jews a free ride. Like any other group of people, their members must be held to a level of accountability. There were Jewish gangsters - Bugsy Siegel, Arnold Rothstein, Meyer Lansky, and Jack the Ripper may have been but overall, the Jews come off pretty well. Throughout history, they have been people of peace. There have, of course, been exceptions and many of the people running Israel haven't been nice to the Palestinians but this is not the fault of the world's Jews.
I have watched references to violent passages from the Talmud by David Duke. I have also read an alert about the Kol Nidre. I did a Google search and read the Kol Nidre along with an explanation. The Kol Nidre is a way of Jews avoiding the obligations of previous oaths they have made and starting over. Rabbinical councils were torn over the idea but, eventually, approved it for the hope of forgiveness. Isn't that what religion is supposed to be about? I accept the explanation. Anti-semites use it as an example of how Jews can avoid responsibility for their acts. Like the practices of other religions, the Kol Nidre is subject to distortion.
How about that holiday where they eat their enemies' ears? Is that subject to distortion? Come to think of it, how many of their holidays aren't nasty celebrations of misery inflicted on their enemies? What about the jewish concept that non-jews are goyim, i.e., cattle? Is that a distortion? When they call white girls "shiksas," i.e., whores or unclean meat -- that a distortion too?
It's dangerous to try to infer too much from these things.
Actually, doc, the danger is in inferring too little. Actually, doc, the jews are and continue to be the "great masters of the lie," as Schopenhauer named them, and the "common enemy of mankind," as a Roman described them 2,000 years ago.
In one gospel, Jesus says that it's his intent to sow discord, even in families. It's a difficult passage and I remember a priest saying just that in a sermon. But Christianity has had a great positive effect on the world.
Let's look at the results of the Talmud. Throughout history, Jews have been in the forefront of community activities, including the arts. From the Talmud, they take it as a noble charge to be involved and lead. As humans, some have failed while others have succeeded. Bugsy Siegel and company's shortcomings have been more than compensated by Maimomides, Felix Mendelsohn and Martin Buber. And if you need further examples of decent Jews, try Jesus Christ and His Apostles as well as almost all of his disciples.
Anti-semites like to cite Jewish predominance in international banking and other businesses. Jews are prominent in banking. The Rothschilds and Warburgs were in the center of the hyper-inflation that led to Hitler's ascendancy. But there were non-jews, too. It might help, also, if these anti-semites examined the historical reasons for Jewish banking dominance. Jews were excluded from the craft guilds during much the Middle Ages and Renaissance. They were left with the remainder, among which were business and banking. Some became good at them and developed a tradition which they handed down to their descendants. So despise them and give them no other choice, then despise them because they become successful at it. Wow! They just can't win.
One problem that Jews must address is the ongoing perception of exactly where their loyalties lie, especially vie a vie Israel. A frequent presumption is that between America and Israel, Jews would choose Israel. I've known several who visited, and like Christians who have visited the Holy Land, they were grateful to get back to the United States. One classmate of mine from NYU did. He went over as an American Jew and came back as a Jewish American. Like everyone else, they know where their bread is buttered and this country has an abundance like no other.
As far as Israel goes, it merits close scrutiny, like all other nations of the world. Zionism is an understandable idea, especially in light of what happened under German National Socialism. But Israel's founding should have been handled much differently. There are many anti-zionist Jews and to question Israel's actions is neither anti-semitic nor anti-zionist.
Many anti-semites overlook the one religion that has had its teachings result in the most violence - Islam. There are many good Muslims, but its spread was almost entirely by sword rather than persuasion. Areas that were dominated by Christianity were overrun by Arab hordes and the people were given a choice - conversion or death. St. Augustine was the Bishop of Hippo, in today's Muslim Algeria. Almost everywhere that Islam interfaces with another faith, there is violence - Pakistan, Israel, The Phillipines, Indonesia, Nigeria, the Balkans, etc. I can only conclude this is not accidental but rather a consequence of its teachings. Its sacred texts have many violent passages with recommendations for violence against others, many more than The Bible.
Muslim societies are the most intolerant on the face of the earth. Try to conduct a mass in Saudi Arabia. Try to do missionary work in a Muslim city and make conversions to Christianity. It can bring a death sentence. When was the last time you heard of a Jew issuing a death warrant for anyone who ridicules Moses as was done with the Fatwa imposed on Salman Rushdie? And don't overlook the assassination of Malcolm X at the behest of Elijah Muhammad. Call the Black Muslims a renegade sect of Islam but they weren't Jews or Christians.
Others like to cite the prevalence of Jews in organizations like the ACLU and Americans for Democratic Action. But Roger Baldwin wasn't Jewish. Some point to strong Jewish tendencies to vote Leftist but I've met a lot of Jews who are extremely conservative. And where would free market economics be today without Milton Friedman? Almost singlehandedly, he made non-Keynesian economic thought respectable. Like many other libertarians, I subscribe to the Austrian School but I went through Friedman's Chicago along the way.
It is dangerous for libertarianism to be associated with this type of thought. Its hatred can very easily deteriorate into violence which is inimical with reasoned discourse. True conservatives must dismiss it out of hand. When William Buckley organized National Review magazine, he insisted on no anti-semitism. Its first religion editor was a Jew. We need the same statement of principle in libertarian circles. I offer it now.

He has responded with an egregiously inaccurate summary of Jewish history and of the contributions made by Jews to civilization.
Dr. Beaman assert that: "Throughout history, they have been people of peace. There have, of course, been exceptions and many of the people running Israel haven't been nice to the Palestinians but this is not the fault of the world's Jews."
Perhaps, during the good doctor's medical training, some courses in history were omitted. The Jewish Scriptures could have been enlightening to him; the ruthless genocidal habits of the early Jews are detailed in their Scriptures. Massacres committed by Jews against non-Jews were horrifying and common during the first three centuries of the Christian Era. He could look up the history of Cyprus and discover what they did there that got them banned from the island in perpetuity. He might investigate what the Jews did in Jerusalem in 614 A.D. He might also search the web for the Najran massacre - an event so horrible that is recorded in the Koran.
Naturally, without a state of their own the Jews were in no position act out their more gruesome fantasies until twentieth century. They returned to form at Deir Yassem and have kept it up since.
Dr. Beaman is upset that many people criticize Jews by referring to the Kol Nidre prayer which he explains thus: "The Kol Nidre is a way of Jews avoiding the obligations of previous oaths they have made and starting over." [My italics]
His is an aberrant interpretation of the Kol Nidre prayer. I quote by contract the full text of the Kol Nidre from the revised Festival Prayers published in 1919
by the Hebrew Publishing Company, New York.:
"All vows, obligations, oaths or anathemas, pledges of all names, which we have vowed, sworn, devoted, or bound ourselves to, from this day of atonement, until the next day of atonement (whose arrival we hope for in happiness) we repent, aforehand, of them all, they shall all be deemed absolved, forgiven, annulled, void and made of no effect; they shall not be binding, nor have any power; the vows shall not be reckoned as vows, the obligations shall not be obligatory, nor the oaths considered as oaths."
Perhaps, Dr Beaman's eyes failed to notice that the text refers to future vows, not to vows previously made. Quite a difference!
Dr. Beamen alludes to three famous Jews to support his contention that : "Throughout history, Jews have been in the forefront of community activities, including the arts. From the Talmud, they take it as a noble charge to be involved and lead. As humans, some have failed while others have succeeded. Bugsy Siegel and company's shortcomings have been more than compensated by Maimomides, Felix Mendelsohn and Martin Buber." The reader is assumed to know may glowing things about the three named individual since Dr. Beaman simply waves their names at us without specifying any details of their contributions.
Let us look at these three illustrious men in turn.
Maimonides was a physician, Talmudic scholar, and a philosopher.
A typical ruling of this creature on a moral issue involving the obligations of Jews to non - Jews is:
"As for Gentiles with whom we are not at war ... their death must not be caused, but it is forbidden to save them if they are at the point of death; if, for example, one of them is seen falling into the sea, he should not be rescued, for it is written: 'neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy fellow - but [a Gentile] is not thy fellow."

As a philosopher Maimonides also had some unkind words to say about Negroes, words commonly omitted from modern editions of his most famous philosophic work (one might wonder why, ha!, ha!):
"Some of the Turks [i.e., the Mongol race] and the nomads in the North, and the Blacks and the nomads in the South, and those who resemble them in our climates. And their nature is like the nature of mute animals, and according to my opinion they are not on the level of human beings, and their level among existing things is below that of a man and above that of a monkey, because they have the image and the resemblance of a man more than a monkey does."

Dr. Beaman's last candidate for illustrious Jewish contributor to civilization in Martin Buber. This gentleman wrote numerous works eulogizing the Jewish Hassidic movement without ever alluding to the doctrines taught by the Hassids about non-Jews. One of the fundamental books of this powerful sect is the Hatanya or Tanya in which all non-Jews are defined as totally Satanic creatures in whom there is absolutely nothing good. Buber glorified a movement holding and actually teaching doctrines about non-Jews not unlike the Nazi doctrines about Jews; teachings he was very careful to avoid explaining to his non-Jewish readers. Buber's works have been translated into Hebrew, have been made a powerful element of the Hebrew education in Israel, have greatly increased the power of the blood-thirsty Hassidic leaders, and have thus been an important factor in the rise of Israeli chauvinism and hate of all non-Jews. If we think about the many human beings who died of their wounds because Israeli army nurses, incited by Hassidic propaganda, refused to tend them, then a heavy onus for their blood lies on the head of Martin Buber.
This fact has been brought into stark relief with the recent release of a book by Rabbi Saadya Grama, an alumnus of what Jews call 'America's largest Torah institution,' Lakewood Yeshiva in New Jersey, also known as Beth Medrash Govoha. The book is titled Romemut Yisrael Ufarashat Hagalut in Hebrew, which translated means The Superiority of Israel and the Question of Exile. Living in one of the most rigidly Islamic nations on earth as I do, I can testify that although I have encountered many who are not happy with the policies of the United States I have never encouraged hostility as a result of my non-Moslem religious status. Islamic history does also show that the initial Moslem conquests were marked by a disinclination to demand religious conversions among Christians or Jews. Converts, unlike those who continued to practice their Christian or Jewish faith, were exempt from taxation. The Moslem rulers preferred Christian and Jewish taxpayers instead of tax exempt Moslems.

Schwäbisch Hall. Die Resonanz auf eine Einladung des Oberbürgermeisters war überwältigend: Wirklich alle relevanten Gruppen der Stadt Schwäbisch Hall waren am Montag abend im Rathaus vertreten. Dabei kam man schnell zur Entscheidung, eine riesige Unterschriftenaktion anlaufen zu lassen, bei der möglichst alle Haller Bürger über 18 Jahre unterschreiben sollen. Parallel dazu wird eine Unterstützerliste aufgelegt, auf der auch Nicht-Haller und Jugendliche unter 18 Jahren unterschreiben können. Das Ziel ist klar: Auf viele tausend Unterschriften gegen den geplanten Neonazi-Aufmarsch am 6. März wird gehofft - als beeindruckende Willensbekundung der Bürgerschaft und als Petition fürs Verwaltungsgericht. Seit gestern werden die Listen verteilt, die bereits mit Erstunterzeichnern aus wichtigen Bereichen des öffentlichen Lebens versehen sind.
Zwar muss damit gerechnet werden, dass die Petition mit den Unterschriften der Haller Bürger das Verwaltungsgericht kaum in seiner Entscheidung beeinflussen dürfte, jedoch will man kein Mittel unversucht lassen, um sowohl der Justiz als auch den Neonazis friedlich mitzuteilen, dass Schwäbisch Hall solche "importierten Aufmärsche" mit erpresserischem Charakter unerträglich findet.
Das Signal von OB Pelgrim und vor allem der Fraktionsvertreter von CDU und FWV im Gemeinderat war am Montag deutlich: "Wir Haller werden mit dem Problem selber fertig und brauchen keine Unterstützung von außen." Damit erteilte OB Pelgrim einem "Demo-Tourismus sowohl von rechts als auch von links" eine klare Absage. Im Internet gibt es bereits verschiedenste Mobilisierungen. Claus Unser, CDU-Stadtrat und Vorsitzender des TSV Hessental: "Wir wolllen eine Hall-verträgliche Lösung."
Ob und welche offiziellen Aktionen gegen die Neonazi-Kundgebung initiiert werden sollen, steht nicht im Zusammenhang mit der Unterschriftenpetition. Es gibt zwar erste berlegungen über gewaltfreien zivilen Ungehorsam, doch das werde zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt entschieden. Spätestens Mitte Februar gibt es ein weiteres Treffen, so der OB. Spontan wurde beispielsweise ein ökumenisches Friedensgebet auf dem Marktplatz mit tausenden von Menschen vorgeschlagen. Die Art von Aktionen hängt auch davon ab, ob der Marktplatz als Aufmarsch- und Kundgebungsort verhindert werden kann oder nicht. Unterdessen hat der Antragsteller der Neonazi-Demo, Lars Käppler, die Stadt wissen lassen, dass es seit dem Haller-Tagblatt-Artikel vom vergangenen Samstag nichts mehr zu verhandeln gebe. Ein für gestern geplantes Gespräch mit Ordnungsamt und Polizei sagte er ab. Lediglich den Anfangstermin für die Demo habe er von 12 auf 13 Uhr verschoben, weil bis Mittag Wochenmarkt auf dem Marktplatz ist. Die Demo-Route soll übrigens fast sech

Wenigstens auf den Routenverlauf und ein Marktplatzverbot hofft Pelgrim Einfluss nehmen zu können.

The Omaha suspension of a white high-school student originally from South Africa is sending shock waves across America as debate rages over who can claim rights to the term "African-American."
South African native Trevor Richards suspended over African-American campaign
The case centers on Trevor Richards, a junior at Westside High School, who moved from Johannesburg to Nebraska six years ago.
Richards and his classmates, 16-year-old twins Paul and Scott Rambo, were booted from classes last week after distributing posters touting Trevor as a candidate for Westside High's "Distinguished African-American Student" award on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
"The posters were intended to be satire on the term African-American," Scott Rambo told the Omaha World-Herald.
Principal John Crook says the posters were disruptive.
"It was offensive to the individual being honored, to people who work here and to some students," Crook told the paper. "My role is to make sure we have a safe environment, physically and psychologically. We can't allow that kind of thing to be hung up on our walls."
Records from 2002-2003 indicate only 56 of Westside's 1,632 students were black, and some in this year's student body were reportedly upset by Richards' poster.
Ironically, the first two recipients of the student award were white.
"It was not intended at the beginning to be one race only," Clidie Cook, who helps organize the annual event, told the World-Herald.
But Westside officials pushed to change that, feeling the spirit of the honor meant giving it to a black student, and by 2001, the ministerial alliance in charge specified it was for blacks only.

Reductionism and extremism both try to keep things simple. Reductionism attempts to reduce the complex to the simple, both in matters of type, kind or form, and causality. Where there are many types or forms, differing in both minor and major degrees, reductionism -- unable or unwilling to make distinctions -- claims there is only one type or form. Where there are many different causes combining to produce an effect, reductionism insists there is only one cause. Extremism, the other product of simplistic thinking, defines an issue only in terms of its two extreme positions, denying the possible existence of alternative positions between the two extremes. For the extremist there is no middle ground, only one extreme or the other. Non-support for one extreme position is equated with support of the opposite extreme position. The problem with simplistic thinking, whether reductionism or extremism, is that in a world of almost infinite complexity and variety it rarely provides an accurate or truthful portrayal of reality.
This problem is particularly acute in the fields of definition and categorization. For example, racism -- the subject of this chapter -- is a term that is frequently subject to simplistic definitions. It is common to define racism as having only one cause and existing in only one form, or being of a uniform type. Definitions that describe a wide variation in types of racism, and a great diversity in causes or motives for racism, are conspicuous by their absence. Furthermore, the single uniform type that racism is usually reduced to in these simplistic definitions is almost always of an extremist character. In the hope of correcting the distortions, misconceptions and inaccuracies inherent in simplistic definitions, a more complete definition of racism, in its variety of forms, kinds and types, causes and motives, will be presented here.
Racism can be broadly defined as including any ideology -- or system of ideas, values, ethics and beliefs -- in which race and racial differences are recognized and regarded as valuable and important. It can also be defined as the opposite of racial nihilism, which denies race and racial differences and regards them as being without value or importance. In terms of causality or motive racism can be based on a wide variety of opposites, as can its own opposite -- racial nihilism. It can be based on love or hate, knowledge or ignorance, idealism or realism, loyalty or envy, benevolence or malice. [Note 1] These different bases, causes or motives can themselves interact and blend in such a wide variety of combinations that it is often difficult to determine which cause is primary and which secondary. Former BNP chief helps police crack secret codes of far right

They are secret signs known to fellow travellers of the far right but leave the general public unaware of their sinister meaning.
For example, in the symbolism of the far right, the number 14 means: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children," while, for young members of the British National Party, the Odal rune, an ancient Norse symbol, indicates a broken swastika that will be remade.
Now, police, judges, prison officers, local authorities and even football clubs are being trained to identify members of extremist right-wing groups from their use of secret badges, symbols and coded messages.
Their guide to the world of extremist imagery is a former member of the National Front. Matthew Collins, who is also a former chairman of the South London British National Party has co-written a new guide for the anti-fascist organisation, Searchlight Information Services, called Signs of Hate.
The guide shows how followers of the ultra-right and other hate groups can be detected by their use of badges, symbols, tattoos, jewellery, and clothing. Researchers have also identified race-hate computer games and bands.
The 60-page book has already been adopted by Scotland Yard, the Crown Prosecution Service, the Prison Service and the National Probation Service.
At least one Premiership football club is to issue the guide to its stewards to help recognise racists among the fans, and councils are to issue them to their education departments to help identify children who are being influenced by the far right.
The Metropolitan Police has distributed the book to all community safety units and custody suites, partly to help officers detect suspects likely to have been involved in a hate crime, such as a racist attack.
Mr Collins joined the NF at the age of 15 and by his late teens was talked about as a possible future leader of the British National Party, as the "acceptable face" of the extreme right.
But following an attack by far-right activists on a group of local residents - mostly women - in south-east London in 1989 he decided to switch sides and contacted the anti-fascist magazine Searchlight. Over the next three years, he handed over damaging information about the internal workings of the National Front and several dangerous splinter groups, including the self-styled "paramilitary unit" Combat18. His assistance led to the arrest of several neo-Nazi leaders and prompted others in the ultra right to co-operate with the authorities.
He was later forced to flee to Australia after being warned by Special Branch officers that his life was in danger. He returned to Britain last year after 10 years abroad.
Mr Collins said: "Most people do not realise what many of these symbols really mean. The far right has become more sophisticated and does not use such obvious signs as Nazi swastikas. The guide is aimed at helping people in the probation service, police, social services and in education understand what these symbols mean."
The other author of the book, Gerry Gable, publisher of Searchlight magazine, said: "One of the main reasons for the book is that, over the years, we have had probation officers and magistrates coming to us and saying we have got a client or someone in court and they have got a tattoo and we don't know what it means. They could be up for attacking mosque and claim they were just drunk, but our guide will help to provide evidence of whether they are racists." He added: "We have noticed an increase in people using the numbers 88 and 14 [which refer to Hitler]. Another common symbol is the tree-of-life symbol - which looks like an inverted CND sign - which gets used by all sorts of people."

The spider's web was a code sign for those who had committed rape on both men and women. In the USA the spider's web symbolises Nazis caught in the web of the penal system.
Odal rune:
An ancient Norse symbol which has been adopted by neo-Nazi groups. It represents the broken swastika awaiting reconstruction on Der Tag ("The Day") when they believe Nazism will rise again. It has been adopted by the youth wing of the BNP.
The number 88:
The number 88 refers to the eighth letter of the alphabet, HH - the German Nazi greeting Heil Hitler.
14 words:
The number "14" or phrase "14 words" is code for the phrase: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children". It has become the rallying cry for white supremacists.
Tree of Life:
Widely-used symbol among modern Nazi organisations, especially in countries where the swastika is banned.
Blood and Honour
Ian Stuart Donaldson, who died in a car crash in 1993, and his band Skrewdriver, the most famous of the original wave of British Nazi bands, set up Blood and Honour as an umbrella group for all neo-Nazi bands.

January 27, 2004 -- EXETER, N.H. - Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken
yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to
shout down Gov. Howard Dean.
The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he
was not injured.
Franken - who seemed in a state of shock and out of breath after the
incident - was helped back to his feet by several people who watched the
tussle. Police arrived soon after.
"I got down low and took his legs out," said Franken afterwards.
Franken said he's not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of
people to speak freely. "I would have done it if he was a Dean supporter at
a Kerry rally," he said.
"I'm neutral in this race but I'm for freedom of speech, which means people
should be able to assemble and speak without being shouted down."
The trouble started when several supporters of fringe presidential candidate
Lyndon Larouche began shouting accusations at Dean.
Franken emerged from the crowd and charged one male protester, grabbing him
with a bear hug from behind and slamming him onto the floor.
"I was a wrestler so I used a wrestling move," Franken said.

The United States was warned of impending September 11 terrorist attacks by an Iranian spy, but ignored him, German secret service agents testified yesterday in the trial of an alleged al-Qaida terrorist.
The spy, identified as Hamid Reza Zakeri, tried to warn the CIA after leaving Iran in 2001, but was not believed, two German officers who interviewed him told the Hamburg court.
Zakeri worked in the department of the Iranian secret services responsible for "carrying out terrorist attacks globally", one of the officers said.
Prosecutors called the spy as a surprise witness against a Moroccan man, Abdelghani Mzoudi, who is on trial for being a key aide to three of the September 11 hijackers.
He is said to have handled money, covered for absences by members of the al-Qaida cell based in Hamburg and trained in an Afghan al-Qaida camp himself.
He is charged with 3,066 counts of aiding and abetting murder, one for each of the victims of the New York and Washington suicide attacks.
Mzoudi is one of a clutch of suspected al-Qaida operatives being held around the world.
Iran said for the first time yesterday it was planning to try a dozen suspects who have been detained in the country.
The Bush administration, which has accused Iran of harbouring al-Qaida militants, countered by saying Tehran should send the suspects to their home countries for judgment.
The US has long suspected that the detainees slipped into Iran from neighbouring Afghanistan following the American-led invasion in 2001.
"We want to see action, and the action we want to see is that they turn over those al- Qaida members in their custody to their country of origin," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.
Western intelligence officials believe that among the Iran-held figures could be an Egyptian, Saif al-Adel, the security chief of Osama bin Laden's network.
A son of Bin Laden and a spokesman for the network chief could also be in Iran, Saudi sources said.
The testimony at the Hamburg trial could heap more embarrassment on the US state department and secret services, which have denied allegations that they were forewarned of the attacks.
The White House and US intelligence agencies have been plagued by accusations of a catastrophic failure since the four planes were hijacked to such devastating effect in 2001.

In his State of the Union Address a year ago, President George W. Bush didn't have a sufficiently alarming formula to describe the immediate danger that Iraqi weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posed for the United States. The following February 5th, in front of the U.N. Security Council, Secretary of State Colin Powell claimed to put forward absolute proof of the existence of such a threat.
A few weeks later, evoking weather constraints, President Bush launched the war. There was no question of waiting longer: the danger was too great. It wasn't possible to allow the U.N. disarmament inspectors to do their work on the ground: that would take months, with people incapable of finding anything whatsoever... In London, Prime Minister Tony Blair held forth the same language: not only did the Iraqis have WMD at their disposition, but they were in a position to use them to attack within 45 minutes.
Close to a year after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, the head of the American inspection mission in Iraq has just delivered his conclusions. He worked with hundreds of men. He operated in a favorable environment in a country administered by the United States. David Kay is unequivocal: the WMD did not exist. This man, named to his post by the CIA, unsuspected of some blissful pacifism, favors one theory: under pressure from U.N. disarmament inspectors- the same so reviled by the Bush administration-, Iraq got rid of its WMD arsenal after 1991 and never reconstituted it-even if Hussein allowed the opposite to be understood for reasons both of domestic prestige and regional leadership.
The Bush government indulged in an operation of "deception" to go to war, Senator John Kerry, running for nomination as Democratic Party Presidential candidate, thundered this weekend. The word is a euphemism. It has been taken up by a number of Democratic congressmen, who, like Mr. Kerry, feel they have been tricked by the White House, when, believing in the threat that it projected, they voted in favor of the war.
"Deception" because this WMD arsenal was really the main argument Mr. Bush put forward to justify "a preventative war" conducted in the name of legitimate self-defense against an "immediate danger". Saddam Hussein was a danger- recognized for a long time, alas- for Iraqis, not for the United States. And George W. Bush wanted this war for a cocktail of complicated reasons, dominated by a desire to break the strategic status quo in the Middle East.
Normally, his political and moral credibility should have been torn to shreds by Mr. Kay's conclusions. That hasn't happened at all: a majority of Americans continue to approve of the war. That's because there was another manipulation: a similar majority of Americans still believe that Saddam Hussein was involved in the September 11 attacks. Nothing, absolutely nothing, proves it. But the administration has played on the confusion of public opinion, adding one "deception" on top of another...

Poll: Europeans 'tired of Holocaust victim games'

Every third European feels Jews should stop playing "Holocaust victim" games, an Italian newspaper reported Monday. The poll came out on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, a day Israel this year dedicated to combating anti-Semitism.
The Corriere della Sera survey of nine European countries also found that 46 percent of those interviewed feel Jews are "different," and 71% of them urged Israel to withdraw from the territories. Nine percent of respondents do not "like or trust Jews," and 15% would prefer that Israel not exist.
Just over 68% said they believed Israel has a right to exist but that the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is "making the wrong choices."
Forty-eight percent of Europeans polled in Italy, France, Belgium, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Britain said that Jews have "a particular relationship with money."
In all the countries, anti-Semitic sentiment was positively correlated with anti-Israel sentiment.
The number of people polled and the margin of error were not clear.
Also on Monday, the IDF General Staff held a discussion on the strategic threat posed by Islamic anti-Semitism.
On Sunday, Natan Sharansky, minister-without-portfolio for Diaspora and Jerusalem affairs, presented a report on anti-Semitism in 2003 at a Yad Vashem ceremony marking the designation of January 27 as Israel's National Day to Combat Anti-Semitism.

"For the first time this year, we decided to mark January 27 as the day to combat anti-Semitism because we feel there is a very deep connection between remembering and facing the challenges of today," Sharansky said. "When cemeteries and synagogues are being burned and destroyed, not somewhere in the dark corners of the world, but in the middle of enlightened Europe, it is a problem that belongs to all of us."
The anti-Semitism report indicated a drop in anti-Semitic incidents worldwide alongside a dangerous convergence of traditional anti-Semitism with the new anti-Semitism which demonizes the state of Israel.
At the ceremony, attended by 15 ambassadors and representatives from 14 other embassies, Sharansky and Yad Vashem officials unveiled a lesson plan titled, "Remembering the Holocaust and Combating Xenophobia." Sharansky also sent letters to all European education ministries to request their participation in the program.

In the 1960s, Dr. Robert Muller, U.N. deputy secretary-general, prepared a "World Core Curriculum." Its first goal:
"Assisting the child in becoming an integrated individual who can deal with personal experience while seeing himself as a part of 'the greater whole.' In other words, promote growth of the group idea, so that group good, group understanding, group interrelations and group goodwill replace all limited, self-centered objectives, leading to group consciousness."
The U.N.'s global education program took a major step in 1968, when UNESCO provided the funding to create the International Baccalaureate Organization, a non-government organization, in Geneva, Switzerland. The IBO is now providing the curriculum for 33,000 teachers in nearly 1,500 schools around the world, 55 of which are middle schools in the Washington D.C. area.
UNESCO says the IB curriculum promotes human rights, social justice, sustainable development, population, health, environmental and immigration concerns.
"We're living on a planet that is becoming exhausted," says George Walker, IB's director-general in Geneva. "The program remains committed to changing children's values so they think globally, rather than in parochial national terms from their own country's viewpoint."
Jeanne Geiger, an outspoken critic of the program in Reston, Va., wrote to a local newspaper: "Administrators do not tell you that the current IB program for ages 3 through grade 12 promotes socialism, disarmament, radical environmentalism and moral relativism, while attempting to undermine Christian religious values and national sovereignty."
The IB program was dropped at Woodson High School in Fairfax, Va., when critical parents told local school officials that the best universities in Virginia did not give full credit for the IB program.
The goals and methods of the IB program reach much further than the 502 U.S. schools now officially enrolled. The Center for Civic Education , which, by law, writes the curriculum for civics education in the United States, says:
"In the past century, the civic mission of schools was education for democracy in a sovereign state. In this century, by contrast, education will become everywhere more global. And we ought to improve our curricular frameworks and standards for a world transformed by globally accepted and internationally transcendent principles."
This global influence can be clearly seen in the new mission for the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies:
"The United States and its democracy are constantly evolving and in continuous need of citizens who can adapt to meet the changing circumstances. Meeting that need is the mission of social studies. Students should be helped to construct a pluralist perspective based on diversity [and] should be helped to construct a global perspective."
A critical review of "We the People; the Citizen and the Constitution," a civics textbook written by the Center for Civics Education, reveals that the teaching of historical facts is replaced with teaching attitudes and values about multi-culturalism and world-mindedness. A review of science, and even math texts, reveals that sustainable development, environmental protection and social justice dominate the material children are taught.
No longer are American children learning about the structure of a federal republic compared to a parliamentary democracy. No longer are children learning the difference between capitalism and socialism. No longer are children being taught why the United States became the most powerful economic engine the world has ever known.
Instead, they are being taught that with less than 5 percent of the world's population, the U.S. uses 25 percent of the world's resources and produces 25 percent of the world's pollution. They are being taught that the U.S. is the No. 1 terrorist nation. They are being taught that the rest of the world is mired in poverty because of the greedy capitalists in the United States.
The effectiveness of generations of this U.N. globalist curriculum is evidenced by many of the talking heads interviewed on the nightly news, and even by some of the presidential hopefuls.

For a week now I have taken out time to read and study
the Versailles Treaty. Would you believe that I've
never read it before? A member of my fan club mailed
it to me. It's about 200 pages long and should be read
by everyone who wants to understand the workings after
WWI and WWII. Of course, this is my opinion, and in no
way is it scientific.
Erupting as a conflict between Serbia and
Austria/Hungary and spreading quickly to engage most
major countries, WWI resulted in the end in the defeat
of the German Empire and the Versailles Treaty.
The treaty was the most humiliating and impertinent
document I've ever read. I think I can safely call it
the "Treaty of Terror."
Often, critics call me a "Hitler Apologist." After
reading the treaty, it doesn't bother me anymore. The

It will be an eye-opener. It became crystal clear for
me that Adolf Hitler was the liberator of an enslaved
nation that had been demonized by the world for its
strength and greatness. Germany constituted the
greatest danger to the ever so growing Jewish power.
Just like the "de-Nazification program" and the
holocaust, the Versailles Treaty was a method to
destroy, to humiliate, and terrorize a nation that did
not agree with the major players. The treaty turned
the Germans into slaves. No military on land or water,
no economy, no right to defend itself, and, to top it
off, $35,000,000,000 was the penalty for the Germans.
In addition, Germany lost more than half of its land,
including overseas colonies.
The pirates divided the loot. The Versailles Treaty
was an attempt to prevent the German nation from ever
becoming a powerful force again in world politics. The
crowning piece of the treaty was Article 231, The War
Guilt Clause, by which Germany had to assume full
responsibility for starting the war.
As one can imagine, this treaty was enforced with
numerous invasions on German territory, and the
killing of innocent people. Eventually, it destroyed
the German economy, and drove unemployment to gigantic
proportions.
As I continued reading it, I finally found the reason
why Americans hover so much hate against the Roman
Catholics. Bob Benedict XV, who rose from the ranks of
a simple priest to cardinal, and was elected Pope,
appealed to the allies to stop the slaughter of the
German people. The Holy Father proposed a settlement,
without punishment, retaliation, solely based on
disarmament and freedom of the seas, and the
restoration of allied occupied territories to the
Germans.
The Holy Father said:
"Nations do not die in humiliation and revenge, they
pass from generation to generation the sorrowful
heritage of hatred and retaliation."
There was no lasting peace, as promised by the
Americans. The Versailles Treaty was an act of terror
and soon a German Army corporal, who had been wounded
and gassed in battle, almost losing his eyesight, was
determined to free the German nation. His name was
Adolf Hitler. WWI's most devastating legacy was that
it became the direct cause of WWII.
Then, President Woodrow Wilson called the Holy Father
an
"unwitting German agent"
Pope Benedict IV told the whole world that the Allies
had created a
".....horrendous blood bath, which dishonored Europe.
The darkest tragedy of human hatred and human
madness."
The Versailles Treaty was the beginning of a new world
order. A world order that was ready to destroy Western
culture as we know it, with its power in the United
States of America.
By the time Adolf Hitler rose to power, the Versailles
Treaty had done what it was supposed to do. Destroy
the country and give communism its reign in Germany.
Surely, those who have read the Versailles Treaty must
have come to the same conclusion, that Adolf Hitler
was the salvation for the German people. A hero, a
leader that the world hadn't seen again. Within a few
years, the German Reichs Kanzler restored the German
nation to its former greatness. He singled out the
illness that Germany suffered, trying to get rid of it
once and for all. But, as history teaches us, the
Germans would suffer again - more horrifying then they
would have ever imagined.
The Jewish power had chosen the United States as their
capital. The old Allies formed again and were
determined to destroy Germany for good. Germany,
again, was defeated and the Jewish power took
merciless revenge, leaving millions of dead German
bodies behind.
Another "treaty" was formed. This time, the Allies did
not leave anything to coincidence. The largest
brainwashing program was applied, called the
"de-Nazification program." Again, the German nation
was forced to turn over their treasures to the
conquerors. The major loot going to the Jews and their
new State of Israel, in form of trillions of dollars
in reparations. The Versailles Treaty and the
de-Nazification programs are nothing but programs of
terror, to destroy those who dare oppose the Jewish
power.
A new mighty weapon was welded. One that would bring
almost the entire world to its knees: The holocaust.
It made the Versailles Treaty pales in comparison. 60
years have passed since, and the holocaust propaganda
has rendered almost all nations helpless in the hands
of one country, where the Jewish power is
concentrated: The United States of America.
Versailles Treaty's are written all over again. With
different names, but with the same purpose: To strip a
nation of its values and heritage and to bring them in
line with the world power.
In a perfect world, Adolf Hitler would be the most
celebrated leader in the world. However, this is the
world of the Jews. The Versailles Treaty then was the
foundation for American foreign politics today.
As the voices in Germany erupt again against its
masters, the world power is trying desperately to
silence them by more humiliation and terror. Laws,
which crush freedom of speech; multi-culturism, which
destroys a country's fiber are the new weapons of the
enemy.
Once one is finished reading the Versailles Treaty,
the questions comes to mind: How was it ever possible?
How was it that a nation that prides itself to be the
freest country in the world and a constitution that
guarantees 14 Amendments (Bill of Rights), to protect
its citizens. One is Freedom of Speech. The other the
right to bear arms. The right to freely assemble, and
the freedom of religion.
How can it we that the same nation goes around the
world, ignoring these principles by signing on to
terror plans like the Versailles Treaty,
de-Nazification programs and hate-crime laws. All
phony-baloney. What's the best example, the simplest
example to explain this to people, so Kindergarden
attendees would understand it?
Along came Mel Fowler. An Internet junkie whom I've
never met. But, your typical arrogant American, who I
ran into a thousand times in my 25 years. He still
lives the American dream, you know, like we are all
Americans, and anyone else who deviates from this norm
is unfit for democracy and freedom.
You know the freedom I am talking about. The freedom
that liberated Dachau, when Americans marched into it
and murdered more than 600 members of the camp staff,
without the beloved American justice. Have you ever
asked the question why the Jews chose the USA to
become the power capital of the world? Shouldn't it
have been Germany? Well, Mel Fowler is the example. He
perfectly demonstrates why only 2.5% of the American
population control the country and from there the
whole world. Why was it possible that the Versailles
Treaty, the de-Nazification Program and the holocaust
lies were ever tolerated by a nation that claims to
put freedom, liberty and justice for all first, and
the goes around the world to behave to the contrary?
Mr. Mel Fowler criticized me for my defense of David
Irving. You know, the little episode with the
waitress. He felt that I was an arrogant bastard. You
see, 60 years of brainwashing turned him over to the
group-hugging and can't-we-all-get-along crowd. He is
one of those Americans that don't do constructive
criticism, unless you agree with them, you are nothing
but a "stupid immigrant", a "charity case of America,"
who has never tasted the wonderful freedom of this
country. Please do not take this as un-American on my
part. Don't hold it against me, and I won' hold
against you either the years of humiliation, every
time I had to put up with the holocaust culture of
this country. I've been more of an American than all
these "Patriots" put together.
Mel Fowler called me an "arrogant bastard" for
demanding decent service for my money. The world calls
the German people whenever they are out of line
"Nazis," thinking that the brainwashing of the past
will deter rebellion. Mr. Fowler also reacted sort of
like this: The Mel Fowler Versailles Treaty: Do not
enter the restaurant, unless you worship the waitress,
be willing to pay for bad service, and reward her
generously for rudeness.
I pointed out to Mr. Fowler that calling me by my
first name is considered arrogant and rude in my
culture. Especially since I've never met the guy. His
response to others (Mr. Fowler never had the guts to
respond to me directly):
"He should know by now that the old world formality of
address do not prevail here."
There you are. It's the same thinking, the same
attitude that the killers of Dachau had. What Mr.
Fowler is trying to say is what American's do best.
Trying to force other to live up to their "standards"
because it does not fit the macho, ball-scratching,
and spit-on-the-ground behavior of Americans.
It is a good and respectful tradition in my country to
only call those who offer or are family by their first
name. It keeps the distance that is needed to have a
civilized conversation when people don't know each
other. As my mom used to say:
"Es ist viel leichter zu sagen 'Du Arschloch' als 'Sie
Arschloch'."
That's what made it so easy for the Jewish power to
prevail: The lack of decorum.
But, times have changed. Today, multi-cultural
cesspools of America have one benefit for
European-Americans. I am now free to finally say that
I am of German heritage and that I demand that you
respect my traditions and heritage, as you are forced
to respect and even celebrate those of Third World
immigrants.
Mr. Mel Fowler also writes to others:
"Mueller wants to be the big cheese."
The news is not good for him. Because I am the big
cheese. And you know why? Because I am not afraid to
do the work and get my hands dirty.
The Fuehrer was one of the "big cheeses" because he
was willing to get filthy. My first name should have
been an indicator to him, since he takes the privilege
to call my by my first name. Walter comes from the
Celtic name "Walthan", meaning "Anfuehrer des Heeres"
(Leader of the masses).
Mr. Fowler continues in his writings to others:
"He (me) can be very thorny, rude, and off-putting."
Yeah, that's true. As I said before, leadership
requires the truth. But, then again, it is a strange
concept for many Americans. My motto is not "It takes
a village to raise a child", because I am the one who
is paying for the village.
Mr. Fowler also calls me "thin-skinned." "Unfitting
for a leader." I am not striving to fit those who want
to follow me. I am not a famous American Hollywood
star. I believe great leadership must have these human
qualities, like being thin-skinned, anger, joy, and
sadness. Anything else is bullshit. Forget about the
Hollywood brainwashing of the "Terminator",
"Superman," "Navy Seals" and all these other tough
guys, who single-handedly destroy a whole regiment of
soldiers.
The framework of Mr. Mel Fowlers behavior is the
result of 60 years of brainwashing. The foundation was
laid with the Versailles Treaty, and continued with
the de-Nazification Program and has become hate-crime
laws today. The norm for American foreign policy is
Mel Fowler. When faced with the truth, they get either
violent or call you a stupid Kraut.
A few words about criticism. It's just as much a myth
when people say "Words can never hurt me." Criticism
without alternatives is like bird shit on a car
window. Eventually they windshield wiper will clean it
off.
The new Versailles Treaty is the war on terrorism.
Again, only possible because the Jewish power has
chosen the most vulnerable people to do this again.
The ones they are the easiest brainwashed. And again,
American forces invade other countries under the
disguise of freedom and justice for all. What they are
really doing is serving their masters.
Mr. Fowler also makes the assumption that I have a
"fan club". "Small, but a fan club." Well, when Adolf
Hitler started out in 1923, he only had a handful in
his fan club, but by 1933, 92% of the German
population joined his "fan club."
Ladies and Gentlemen, you better wake up. The days of
American Nationalism are over. Multi-Culturism is the
dominant force today and to blame is not the enemy,
but ourselves. People like Mel Fowler.
"Have a nice day". "Nice to meet you". "How are you"
don't cut it anymore. Leadership requires to point out
that the day wasn't nice, and that meeting you wasn't
either and that it is none of your business on how I'm
doing. Leadership also requires to get into the middle
of the difficulties. Sending your armies under the
disguise of liberty and justice, to force other
nations to sign yet another Versailles Treaty, while
you sit safe and sound in front of your Philips TV is

"War against the Weak" is a new book by Edwin Black,
who has raised some eyebrows in Germany. In fact, it
received front-page coverage in Der Spiegel. The book
is actually in English, and the author is an American.
The distributor is Four Walls Eight Windows in New
York. The book is $27.00.
War against the Weak has received very little press
coverage in the US. Author Edwin Black has collected
about 50,000 documents from the American archives in
dairies and court files, to prove that the Nazi
Euthanasia Program was actually copied from the
Americans.
Euthanasia Laws, until the 70's, could be found in
almost all states in the US. Black documents that the
Americans castrated and sterilized more than 60,000
men and women. Mostly poor folks and blacks.
Black alleges that the USA was trying to breed a
superior race, comprised of only Nordic people.
"The idea of America being the melting pot is a myth,
writes Black."
In fact, Black says that most immigrants formed their
own communities with their own heritage. The first
state with a euthanasia law was Indiana in 1907. 32
states followed that example. A guy named Laughlin
wrote the law. Now here is where it gets interesting.
Laughlin's pilot law was translated into German and
used for Germany's euthanasia law. Laughlin received,
according to Black's book, an honor doctorate from
Adolf Hitler in 1936.
Laughlin also brought over a 2-part propaganda movie
from the "Nazis" entitled "Erbkrank" and it was
distributed in the US in high schools from New York to
New Jersey and Connecticut.
The American government actually had its own
euthanasia department, ERO, and made Laughlin the
Superintendent. Only after the Second World War was
the department closed. Nevertheless, in many states,
Doctors continued forced sterilization. It was in
April of last year that the last state, North
Carolina, got rid of their euthanasia law.
As mentioned, the press in the US is boycotting the
book, because it is again testimony of what hypocrites
the Americans are.

Germany: Dortmund: For one semester, the Department of
Human Services in Germany encouraged students to
design posters and postcards to fight fascism and
Nazism. 47 of these designs from over 150 students
will be made into posters and will be shown on
billboards throughout Germany. Some of these designs
are incredibly vulgar and stupid. For example
"Nazis sind im Kopf ganz braun weil sie Scheisse
fressen."
("Nazis are brown on the head, because they eat shit")
and a picture of a man, eating feces is shown.
The second example:
"Faschos sind doof und haben kleine Schnipel"
("fascists are dumb and have little dicks"}
It is accompanied by a picture of a naked man with a
little penis.
You can tell already that these ideas where put inside
the students heads by the Jews. No one else has this
obsession with feces.

and the holocaust." The study points out that every

I believe you are on the right track when you pointed
out that the Canadian Justice [sic?] is holding him
without charges, without showing any respect for the

A recent trip to a grocery store in Tucson gave us an
indication of things-to-come in the social future of

Regarding the Mel Gibson movie, "The Passion of the Christ," you were quoted on January 23 in the Los Angeles Times saying, "[Gibson is] hawking it on a commercial crusade to the churches of this country. That's what makes it dangerous."
This is very disturbing. To say the film is dangerous because the people who are previewing it are church-going Christians is an insult to practicing Christians. The subtext of this remark is that church-going Christians are latent anti-Semitic bigots ready to lash out at Jews at any given moment.
As president of the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organization, I am requesting that you make a public apology immediately. Thank you for your consideration.

Home-schooling advocate Karl Bunday used to get a lot of blank looks when he visited college fairs in his native Minnesota and pitched the virtues of students educated around the kitchen table.
Nearly a decade later, things have changed. ``It seems like this time, everybody has heard of home schooling,'' said Bunday, who operates the Web site learninfreedom.org about ``taking responsibility for your own learning.''
Until recently, educators say, home-schooled students mostly gravitated to small, primarily religious colleges. Now, as the movement keeps gaining in popularity, they can be found on many _ even most--campuses nationwide.
``As the numbers (of home schooled) have increased, and there have also been more admitted to college, they've actually performed quite well,'' said Barmak Nassirian, a policy analyst with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
While exact figures are not available, the number of middle and high school students educated at home is now estimated at between 1 million and 2 million.
Such young people have grown up academically with a greater emphasis on learning--rather than testing--compared with conventionally educated students, said Laura Derrick of the Home Education Network. [The actual difference is between intellectual instruction vs attitude adjustment.]
Derrick thinks colleges are starting to recognize that. Schools are ``looking at kids as human beings and as people who bring a specific experience to their school rather than just a grade or a grade point average,'' she said from her home in Austin, Texas.
Educated at home from kindergarten through high school, Holly Porter said the flexibility of home schooling made the transition to university life easy.
``It prepared me better than going to a regular high school would have because I was independently motivated,'' said Porter, now a graduate student at the University of Denver.
Asher Albertson was home schooled until age 16, when he started attending classes at a community college.
Now a junior at the University of Wyoming, Albertson said finding his way to classrooms was the most difficult adjustment to college life. ``Before, it was the dining room table,'' he joked.
Academically, Albertson added, the move to campus was nearly seamless.
``In college, you go to class, but you spend most of your time studying outside of class getting ready for tests, so it wasn't much different from what I was doing before,'' he said.
Beyond academics, the uptick in home schooled students on college campuses has helped them overcome the stereotype that they're socially maladjusted, said Mark Hegener, the publisher of Home Education magazine. When Porter moved into her first undergraduate residence hall at Denver five years ago, she felt like it was the conventionally schooled freshmen who had trouble adjusting.
``It was kind of a shock,'' she recalled.
``I had been given a lot of independence and a lot of freedom inside my parent's home. And I kind of got the feeling that there were all these girls that had never been away from their families before and they just went hog wild.''
Within a week, Porter transferred to a dormitory that emphasized academics.
Porter and others say the home-schooled develop their social skills through volunteerism and other networks that allow them to join in as many or more extracurricular activities than conventional students.
Texas State University admissions director Christie Kangas said home schooled applicants almost always list more community service than those conventional students.
Nassirian said the barriers that once discouraged the home schooled from attending secular colleges began to fall five years ago after the schools overcame ``fundamental misgivings'' about applications who lacked grade transcripts and report cards.
Porter encountered some of those obstacles.
``On paper, I looked like a high school dropout,'' she said.
``I had a (high school equivalency diploma) but I didn't do an accredited high school curriculum. So I had to explain that I'm not a high school dropout--that I have had a lot of unique experiences that a regular high school student doesn't have.''
Tom Bear, dean of admissions at the University of Evansville, credits home-schooled students' strong performances on standardized tests for changing their image.
Additionally, applicants to Evansville--a private institution in southern Indiana--must submit a reference from a coach, minister or another source.
``We have some checks and balances in place,'' Bear said. ``But the home schooled kids who are here have done well.''

Austrians stunned by Nobel prize-winner's Nazi ideology

AN EMINENT Austrian scientist who specialised in genetics and won the Nobel prize for his work on malaria has been revealed as an exponent of racial purity who advocated the forced sterilisation for people regarded as genetically impure.
The discovery that Julius Wagner-Jauregg was a member of the Nazi party and backed Hitler's ideas about racial purity has shocked Austrians, who have named schools, roads and hospitals after the respected former physician and psychiatrist.
Wagner-Jauregg, considered one of the leading scientists of his time, was honoured with the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1927 for his work in the field of malaria inoculation.
He died in 1940, but, instead of being discredited after the war, his role promoting Nazi ideology and close links with them were swept under the carpet.
The truth came to light after a Vienna city councillor, David Ellensohn, called for a review of all people awarded honorary status at the city's central cemetery in the period under Nazi occupation.
A team of historians was commissioned to examine the lives of more than 200 Austrians in this category. They found Wagner-Jauregg was a proponent of racial purity before the country became part of Hitler's Third Reich in 1938.
Member of the commission, Wolfgang Neugebauer from the Documentation Centre of the Austrian Resistance, has presented the findings to the Vienna City Council.
Wagner-Jauregg applied to become a member of the National Socialist Party (NSDAP) in 1939 after calling for a ban on "people with mental diseases and people with criminal genes" from reproducing.
According to his biographer, Madga Whitrow, his first attempt to join the party failed on account of "race". Whitrow said Wagner-Jauregg's first wife, Balbine Frumkin, was Jewish. But in her biography she wrote: "It isn't clear if his unhappy marriage to Frumkin fuelled his anti-Semitic sentiments."
Nevertheless, Wagner-Jauregg continued to promote his theories and said people with mental diseases or criminal genes were "individuals who, because of lasting genetic mental defects, are a danger to the community and unable to fit in".
He also backed a proposal for a law to carry out sterilisations for "eugenic purposes", which was rejected by the pre-war parliament. Working women were also commented upon by Wagner-Jauregg. He described them as "degenerate" and said they would be unable "to bear children or breast feed".
Head of the commission, Kurt Scholz, said: "I cannot recommend Wagner-Jauregg's honorary status is maintained. His statements concerning racial care' and attitude after 1938 alone are enough."
He added that a public debate on academics' participation in Nazi doctrines following the end of the Second World War was absolutely non-existent, and Wagner-Jauregg's role had been a whitewash.
Green councillor Ellensohn said not only should Wagner-Jauregg's honorary status be withdrawn, but "in face of the facts - both about his activities in illegal Nazi circles and his membership in the NSDAP - all public places named after him should be renamed".
Vienna City Council has promised a full review and expects to make a decision in summer.
