Jewish leaders hailed ex-President Bill
Clinton yesterday for saying that he would grab a rifle and
fight and die for Israel if Iraq attacked the Jewish state.
"Any time a former American president says he is willing to
fight for Israel, that is a good thing. You will not see any
other world leaders saying that," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean
of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.
"If Bill Clinton says he wants to fight for Israel, that's
OK with me."
In a speech at a Jewish fund-raiser in Toronto Monday
night, the ex-president said he would jump into the trenches
if Iraq attacked Israel.
Neil Goldstein, executive director of the American Jewish
Congress, said, "We're very pleased to hear of his great love
and support for the state of Israel. We all appreciate his
love for Israel."
