But please consider this scenario. Perhaps Iran has made this threat to 'bait' you into acting as you did in 1981 when for a similar necessity, you bombed the Osirak nuclear power station near Baghdad, effectively smashing former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's nuclear program.

The world assumes Iran does not yet have a nuclear capability. You nervously wait for the UN to pressure Iran into dismantling its nuclear program, but the Security Council made up of countries dependent on Iranian oil are reluctant to react to the threat.

Finally, in a desperate act of self-preservation, you launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran's
nuclear facilities.

You've now taken the bait. Dozens of missing nuclear devices, from the former Soviet Union have made their way into Iran through the black market. Iran has mounted these on their Shahab-3 ballistic missiles, programmed to target your major population centers and military industrial complex. It launches these in 'self defense', responding to your 'unprovoked' attack.
