If you are anywhere close to Caledonia, Ontario this is not a protest to miss. Those located in Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara or even outside of Ontario should come out to support this.

Tension Builds Over Rally
Mayor to Declare State of Emergency if Violence Erupts
By Marissa Nelson
The Hamilton Spectator(Oct 12, 2006)

The man organizing the controversial "March for Freedom" in Caledonia this weekend says it will go onto the disputed Douglas Creek Estates, despite pleas from the mayor, the OPP and politicians of all stripes at Queen's Park.

"At least it's legal for us to walk down a street and onto government land," Gary McHale said in an interview from his Richmond Hill home. "We spent $20 million for that precious land and we have a right to be on it."

The OPP issued a statement yesterday urging anyone planning to participate in the protest to reconsider.

Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer said last night she is ready to declare a state of emergency in Caledonia if the march triggers violence.

The rally comes after several months without serious clashes, and Trainer said it amounts "to poking the bear just because it is there."

The mayor said she's hoping for rain Sunday to dampen any tempers.

McHale, a 44-year-old computer programmer, stressed that he has called for a peaceful march.

"I've held town hall meetings. If we're peaceful, we win. If there's one racial slur, the media will focus on that and we'll lose," he said.

When asked if he'd force his way on to Douglas Creek Estates Sunday, McHale said he hoped the OPP would enforce the law.

"We will walk up and people will see first-hand that the only reason we cannot step on that land is because of our race," he said.

"The fact is we have a system now in Caledonia and Ipperwash where the laws of the land are dictated by your race. That's the whole point of the march."

McHale and his wife of 25 years, Christine, run a website called caledoniawakeupcall.com.

The couple, who have come to prominence in the last few months, maintain they have no connection to the town and didn't know anyone in town before they got involved in the issue. McHale said he got involved only because of the crimes, media coverage and police handling of the dispute.

"In the last two days, I've done 25 interviews. I'm probably the N0. 1 news story in Ontario at this time," he said, adding that he's getting advice from police about how to stay safe after receiving "serious threats."

McHale said he's had to sweep aside his own life to take up the cause.

He puts race at the centre of the Caledonia dispute, then scoffs at any insinuation he is racist.

"Obviously anyone takes a stand against a group in Canada, people throw out the racist card. I make no racist statements against them," he said. "The concept of equality, multiculturalism, the concept of freedom are not exclusive to any one group."

On his website and in interviews, McHale often refers to a "two-tier justice system," to the violation of the Charter of Rights, and to accusations the OPP are not enforcing the law.

He said a fence put up next to the Catholic school near the former subdivision is "segregation."

"People have to recognize that the natives are so violent that we have to build walls, put up cameras and station OPP officers (at the school) and yet we still don't have them being arrested."

The rally, which he hopes 20,000 will attend, will start at 1 p.m. at the Lion's Hall in Caledonia, near Douglas Creek Estates and on the same side of the Grand River so protesters can't be stopped at the bridge.

this is on sunday eh? I suggest anyone going to not wear any racial clothing or people with visible racial tattoos to cover them, so this cannot be called a racist rally of any kind (except, on the part of the indians this cause is geared towards). I dont know if i'll make the trip or not (no means to get there), but I certainly hope it gets a good turnout of Caldonians & other concerned people around Ontario. Ipperwash seems like a stepping stone, this wont stop unless we say enough is enough. I may not be a big fan of police, but I understand the tough position the opp has been put into... They need to see that the majority of us, Canadian citizens (and not just us evil, racist, "neo nazis" either [lol], but everyone), do not support these indian land grabs.

Totally agree Chris, that is sound advice. The days of bringing out the battle flags and such is passing if we wish to be taken serious and see numbers grow.
Show the average 'Joe' That its 'US' or the law breakin wiggers, muds, and diversity. The better presented we are.. the more who come to stand.

I have family just outside Caledonia, so leaving Saturday night after the UFC fights to make sure I am there early.

Also like you, I have little respect for the police, as they don't tend to stick to ethics. Just get controlled.
I have seen many videos of this standoff, where the OPP did nothing to help the town.

The objective is to not dress like a racist. Don't chat slurs. Staying calm and peaceful will force the Indians to loose it, and get caught on film doing what they do best. Attacking and starting the trouble. This time, the media will have it all caught.
The OPP needs to be forced into doing their job, or better get the military into this.

Hope people can make it. I kno Fromm has been making plugs for this on SF Radio.
88!
