Croatians are typically Roman Catholic, Serbs typically Orthodox, and "Muslims"...well...Muslim. Albanians are also majority Muslim, though a notable percentage are Orthodox as well.

Being that every ethnic group has established its own territory, they are becoming more and more seperated, except in the case of Bosnia (though even there it is geographical). There are large populations of Serb minorities still living in Croatia, and vice versa.

I am going to limit my answer here to the primary ethnic groups of this war, being the Slavic Croats, Serbs, and Bosnian Muslims. Despite attempts by the Croats to distance themselves ethnically from the Serbs, there is little blood difference between these groups. Croats originated as a Western Slavic group that migrated into the Balkans from the North, while Serbs came from the East. The Bosnian Muslims are the descendents of mostly Serbs who converted to Islam after the invasion of the region. There are other Slavic Muslims, mostly in the Sandzak(a region in Serbia proper) but they have never had much of an identity unlike the Bosnian Muslims. Croats are Catholic, Serbs are Eastern Orthodox, Slovenes are Catholic, Macedonian Slavs are Orthodox, "Bosniaks"(a term that usually refers to a Bosnian Muslim) are Sunni Muslims. Albanians can be Sunni, Catholic, and Orthodox, but are mostly of the former two.

- Are they pretty much segregated?

Yes and no. Croatia and Serbia are for the most part separated by Bosnia and Herzegovina, but Croatia and Bosnia have had large Serbian areas.

- Why did the US get involved?

To assist in hemming in Russia. The US had no intention of allowing another superpower to exist, even if it was now "friendly" and non-Communist. Chaos in Bosnia provided a good opportunity to move closer to Russia.

- Who should we WN be surporting?

Nobody. We should only support a faction that condemns fratricide and stands for a racial world view rather than out-dated nationalism. It is the duty of outsiders to study all the history in an objective manner, (which is by no means easy) so as to provide the catalyst for the formation of such movements. Otherwise it is highly unlikely that such movements will originate from the local populace.

Another question I have is about Chechnya. Are chechens White? I'm pretty sure they are muslim, I'm not sure of their race or ethnicity.

Some Chechens, for all intesive purposes could be called "white". The issue is whether they WANT to be white. Exceptions can always be made on a case by case basis, but it is far better for the most part to keep Chechens in Chechnya and Russians in Russia.

Ok and in what alternate universe did this happen in? In Bosnia the Muslims were the most urbanized of the population, historically, while the Serbs lived in the agricultural hinterland and are seen as "rednecks" by some of the population. The Serbs were afraid to let Bosnia go because they would be LOSING more industrial and urban territory, as they already had in Croatia. Nobody brought up the racial question because there is no racial difference. The Muslims also weren't the first to put out PR propaganda because the Croats had already done it before.
