"Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child"

An old saying, back when America was normal: "Spare the rod, spoil the child" (in other words, "if you never spank the child, then he'll grow up to be a total jerk"). In fact, we had a long discussion about that in Political Science class in junior college. It seems that one reason millionaires are assholes is because their parents never punished them. They were raised by nannies -- most of whom were permissive. They "got away with murder" as kids and so when they grew up, they were, of course, assholes.

Headline: "Canadian lawyers, teachers appeal to the Senate to reject bill that would criminalize spanking" (In the old days, kids were sometimes spanked in the schools; that ended circa 1977; our grade school principal, an old but tough White woman, used to spank kids in her office with a wooden paddle circa 1965. I miss those days. Men were men, women were women, queers were disgusting, and everybody was glad of it except for a few freaks and weirdos).
