A 15-year-old boy was left in serious condition and two 17-year-olds in fair condition after shots were fired during a birthday party at a Forest Park nightclub Sunday night.
"They went into a back of a little corner and just started shooting," is how Roger Stevens described what he witnessed at Club Locura in Clayton County late Sunday night. He was one of more than 100 mostly teenagers attending two simultaneous birthday parties that ended when gun shots ran out at the Jonesboro Road nightclub just after 10 p.m.
Forest Park Police Major Chris Matson said some teens were apparently kicked out of the party earlier in the evening and may have come back shooting. He said the parties were winding down and everyone was about to leave when the shooter or shooters came in an exit door and opened fire.
A 15-year-old boy was listed in "critical" condition at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital Monday morning and was later upgraded to serious. The conditions of a 17-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were described as fair. So far, police have not released the names of the three teen victims.
"We have a few leads," said Major Matson, but he added that police still don't know if the shooter(s) fled on foot or in a vehicle. He asked anyone who may have important information about the shooting and potential suspects to call the Forest Park Police Department.
