Deputies: Couple Used Electric Cattle-Prod on Children

(Aiken County) - An Aiken County couple has been charged with repeatedly using an electric cattle prod to shock two young boys.

Kip Smith, 25, and Dana Smith, 30, were taken into custody earlier this week. Kip Smith is charged with two counts of unlawful neglect by a legal custodian and cruelty to children. Dana Smith is charged with two counts of unlawful neglect by a legal custodian.

Officers say the incidents happened in June and July. They say the couple repeatedly used an electric hand-held cattle prod on the boys, who are ages 12 and 14.

Officers also say Kip Smith struck the victims with a cane across the buttocks and legs back in March.

The victims now live with relatives.

Kip and Dana Smith are free on bond.
