When this show went to color in the fall of 1965, they needed a new son to fill the place of the actor who departed,who played the oldest son,Mike.They had an episode that delt with The fathers effort,being a widower,to adopt the boy,ernie,because back then,even if you were a widower with kids, the system was still hesitant to hand a kid over to you.Kind of laughable today when you see Homos being allowed to adapt, and screw up kids for life.
