Poll workers in KJ say boys chanted ‘loser,’ threw eggs

KIRYAS JOEL - Poll workers recruited by Woodbury activist Jonathan Swiller to monitor voting in Kiryas Joel on Wednesday say a crowd of jeering boys pelted them with eggs as they left the polling station that night.

“They were shouting, screaming at us, and we couldn’t quite figure out what they were saying,” said Woodbury resident Mindy Prosperi, one of about 20 poll workers brought in from outside the Hasidic community.

Swiller, who leads a citizens’ group called OCEAN, said he and one of the poll workers soon found themselves surrounded by the same boys, who chanted “Losers!” Swiller said members of the village’s Public Safety Department escorted him and the poll workers through the hostile crowd.
