Giuliani blames cop shootings on black-on-black crime

Former Mayor Giuliani ignited a heated exchange on TV on Sunday after pointing to a black commentator while discussing the fatal shooting of an African American teen by a white cop in Ferguson, Mo., and saying, “The white police officers wouldn’t be there if you weren’t killing each other.”

The former two-term New York City mayor, who oversaw a large decrease in crime during his tenure, was debating the upcoming grand-jury decision on the police shooting when he made the reference to black-on-black crime.

Giuliani was emphatically gesturing toward fellow commentator Professor Michael Eric Dyson with his hand at the time.

Dyson, who is black, shot back that Giuliani’s remark was a vile “defensive mechanism of the white supremacy at work in your mind.”

The two talking heads had originally gotten in a verbal tussle when Giuliani said, “Ninety percent of blacks are killed by other blacks.”

He insisted that the Ferguson shooting was the exception to the regular violence in most cities.

But Dyson got Giuliani’s blood boiling when he challenged his thesis.

“Most black people who commit crimes against other black people go to jail,” Dyson said. “White people who are policemen and kill black people do not go to jail.”
