Dr. Partha Banerjee in the book In the Belly of the Beast explains the religious fascism behind Hindutva ideology – which is based on Hindu nationalism and intolerance toward low-caste Hindus (untouchables) and the non-Hindu minorities in India. Hindutva political and religious groups have become so powerful now that they not only threaten the safety of minorities but are driving the so-called “secular India” to its ultimate balkanization.

Early this month, Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, was especially invited to perform Hindu ritual of Pooja at the official residence (Varsha) of Maharashtra’s chief minister-designate Ashok Chavan. The Sai Baba also attended a Hindu religious concert by Bollywwod singer Sonu Nigam in Goregaon.

The Sai Baba controls many facets of India’s landscape – which include religion, politics, showbusiness, military, drug mafia, etc. One of his famous devotees include former Indian President Dr. Abdul Kalam and Indian prime minister V.P. Narasimh. The Sai Baba is regarded as the living God by his devotees, while he himself claims to be the reincarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi. Like some of TV Evangelists, Sai Baba is also famous for miracles. However, his miracles have been exposed by Indian Rationalist Associations. Sai Baba is also accused of sexual abuse.

Like a god for each day – there has never been a shortage of “Holy men” in Hindu society – such as Gurus, Sants, Mahrajs, Sai Babas, etc. Some of those have succeeded in recruiting thousands of westerners looking for an escape from their materialistic world.

Ram Puniyani in his article Invading the Secular Space has detailed the take-over of India by the Hindutva fascism.

“Overall religiosity has been on the upswing and not many are protesting the promotion of blind faith by many God men. The rational thought and movement is on the back foot and political leadership, social leaders of many hues are bending over backwards to please these Babas, some of whom are also dispensing health and some of them claim to be looking into the crystal ball of future.

A new Hindu religiosity is getting deeply rooted in every day life, in public and private spheres. The distinction between private and public is getting eroded. Hindu rituals and symbols are becoming part of state functions: Hinduism de fact is becoming state religion. Hindu religiosity is becoming part of national pride with the aspiration of becoming a superpower ….”

Meera Nanda in her book ‘The God Market: How Globalization is making India more Hindu”, questions the Zionist myths, such as, Robert Kaplan’s article “Trouble in the Other Middle East”, published in The New York Times, December 8, 2008 – in which he painted Hindu civilization as bright and forward in world globalization context while Pakistan and Islam as ‘dark, denomic, and backward-facing’. “A virtuous, victorious, and Hindu India against the evil designs of Islamic terrorism – or rather, to use the language of Hindu nationalists, the evil design of all those who follows the “criminal Semitic creeds” (Judaism, Christianity and Islam): The growing liberalization and globalization of Indian economy is not only compatible with, but actually contributing to the growth of a virulent form of political Hinduism which is as wedded to the project of politicizing and universalizing a Hindu (or “Vedic”) worldview…….”

Hindutva has resulted in the assassination of Mahtama Gandhi and over 20,000 Muslims in communal riots plus more than 80,000 Muslims have been killed in occupied Jammu & Kashmir Valley while more than one million have been made homeless. India has achieved in sixty years which Muslim rulers could not achieve in 1000 years of their rule. Muslims are still a minority in India. Why? The answer lies in India’s first prime minister Pandit Nehru’s book ‘The Discovery of India’ in which he wrote: “So far, over 300 years, Islam had come peacefully as a religion and taken its place among the many religions of India without trouble and conflict. When Mahmud (Ghaznavi) had established himself as a ruler, Hindus were appointed to high office in the army and the administration. It’s thus wrong and misleading to think of a Muslim invasion of India or the Muslim period in India….. Islam did not invade India. It had come to India some centuries earlier…..”

If one read the views of professor Stanely Wolpert on Nehru, Yogesh Chadha on Gandhi, Philip Zeigler on Lord Mounbatten, and Jaswant Singh on Jinnah – one will conclude that it was neither Jinnah nor the Muslims who brought the division of India on religious basis; rather it was the policies of Hindu leaders who created distrust between Hindus and Muslims and gave rise to uncompromising conditions that cause the division. For example, Gandhi’s abandoning the Hindu-Muslim unity pact, and Gandhi’s rejection of Jinnah’s offer of mutual cooperation between Congress and the League in 1937. Pandit Nehru’s record is even worse. He not only refused to negotiate with the Muslim League, he also establish underhand dealings with Lord Mountbatten with the help of Lady Edwina Mountbatten with whom he had sexual relation. Sardar Baldev Singh, the defence minister in the interim government before partition (1946-47) had kept most of the Muslim army units out of India (in Burma and Far East). As a result, Muslim population was left at the mercy of Hindu and Sikh mobs and Hindu-Sikh army units.
