Libertarians consider racist filer NEWS-LEADER STAFF AND WIRES Officials of the state's Libertarian Party will spend the weekend trying to decide whether to allow white supremacist Glenn Miller to run for Congress under their banner. The Army veteran and retired truck driver from Aurora wants to run for the seat held by Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Indian Point, who filed for re-election on Friday. Miller originally filed with the secretary of state's office as a Democrat on Monday. His $100 filing fee was forwarded to the Missouri Democratic Party, which rejected the money, meaning he is not qualified to run on the Democratic ticket. He said he would run as a Republican; party leaders told him not to bother. "As the party of Lincoln, we do not support anybody who is a white supremacist," Jared Craighead, executive director of the state Republican Party, said Friday. Miller filed Friday afternoon as a Libertarian. Keith L. Rodgers, the chairman of the Greene County Libertarian Party, said an executive conference will be held Sunday to discuss what they will do. "Personally, I don't want him. Nobody seems to," Rodgers said. But he added that he doesn't speak for party as a whole. Miller, the former leader of the White Patriot Party, became the subject of a national manhunt in 1987, after he violated the terms of his bond while appealing a North Carolina conviction for operating a paramilitary training camp. Federal agents found Miller and three others in an Ozark mobile home, filled with hand grenades, weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition. According to the secretary of state's Web site, as of Friday afternoon, four other people had filed to seek the 7th Congressional District seat: Republicans Blunt, Mitchell E. Potts and Clendon L. Kinder and Libertarian Kevin Craig.
