If you thought race-based entitlements were a thing of the past, think again. The race factor is still in play, thanks to the Obama Administration. Obama’s new Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, announced the USDA would spend $6 million of taxpayers money to “socially disadvantaged farmers.” What exactly is a “socially disadvantaged farmer?” The USDA has an answer:

A socially disadvantaged farmer or rancher is one of a group whose members have been subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice without regard to their individual qualities.

Translation: everyone but white males. Sorry guys.

This sort of discrimination is running rampant in the Administration of Change. Check out the video below. Then ask yourself; how is this not abject racism?

Further, since the money is doled out by the Government, you can bet that Vilsack’s preferred method of farming–otherwise known as slash-and-burn corporate agriculture–will be the model these new entitled minority farmers are schooled in. What better way to get ethnic people to support you, give them a farm.

This is typical urban elitist thinking. They’re going to come out here to the country and show us how things should be done. Never mind that the rate of female-owned farms is on the rise along with the number of black farmers. Now, that’s going to be a surprise to some of the race-based crowd, but it’s true.
According to Vilsack, “President Obama has pledged to ensure that government is inclusive and USDA is committed to that pledge and to opportunities that support a diverse population of producers who might not otherwise seek our support.”

In the official press release, USDA officials made it clear that this is nothing more than an old-fashioned affirmative action program:

These grants enable organizations to help farmers and ranchers successfully acquire, own, operate and retain farms and ranches and to assure equitable participation in the full range of USDA programs.

The Administration wants to make sure rural America is as “diverse” as they think it should be. Of course, it doesn’t say how many socially disadvantaged farmers they are proposing to help “acquire and own” farms.

The reason for the increase is simple: the definition of “farm” is changing. Instead of a 7,000-cow dairy operation where the animals live in filth and are literally milked to death, the term “farm” is starting to mean what it used to mean: a small-scale, family operated rural enterprise. Not a giant CAFO. Rural America is enjoying a growth in small-scale farms, and everyone is benefiting–black people, women and sustainable operators.

The rural community has enough problems without a bunch of race-baiting elitists trying to force their big-government agenda down our throats. Just because the liberal elitists in Washington D.C., are a bunch of closet racists, that doesn’t mean rural Americans are. We’re too busy busting our humps to worry about what color/religion/gender our neighbors are. It’s obvious the urban bureaucrats aren’t working hard enough. If they were, they’d be too tired to make such racist policies. Someone give those yahoos at the USDA a pair of boots and a shovel.
