The U.S. Supreme Court: Not Western. Why Not?

I was talking to a fellow about the U.S. Supreme Court. I remarked that it is scary to think that the highest court in America is not Western. He asked, “what do you mean by that?” I explained to him that, out of the 9 court justices, 5 are not White (the non-Whites are: Sotomayor [Puerto Rican], Thomas [Black], Kagan [Jewish], Ginsburg [Jewish] and Breyer [Jewish]). I asked him, “why does a Western country have a Supreme Court that is majority-non-Western?” He just looked at me and said nothing. He seemed shocked at that news, and he should be [1].
