Israelis arrested in SA for kidney sale

Two Israelis allegedly linked to an international syndicate trafficking in human organs have been arrested in South Africa shortly after a local surgeon performed an illegal kidney transplant.

“The police arrested a 42-year-old man, Ajania Robel, of Israel, who had just undergone a kidney transplant in Durban,” police spokeswoman Mary Martins-Engelbrecht told AFP on Thursday.

He was arrested upon his discharge from a private hospital in the eastern port city of Durban on Wednesday and would face charges of contravening South Africa’s Human Tissue Act which outlaws any trade in human organs.

“Another Johannesburg man, of Israeli origin, Meir Shushan, was also arrested. We suspect him to be the middleman,” Martins-Engelbrecht said.

By Jessica Elgot

Five rabbis are among those arrested for their alleged involvement in a huge money-laundering scheme, including the trafficking of human body parts, as a result of a 10-year investigation by the FBI in New Jersey.

FBI officials said they had arrested 44 people including two mayors, major political figures and rabbis, part of the Syrian-Jewish community who are said to have laundered the money through their personal charities.

The rabbis who have been charged include Saul Kassin, Grand Rabbi of the US Syrian-Jewish community. He allegedly helped launder about $3 million from fake Gucci and Prada handbags.

One of the other accused men, Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, was charged with conspiring to traffic human organs after officials said he had offered a witness’s relative a $160,000 kidney which he himself had acquired for $10,000.

Italian border authorities arrested 77-year-old Israeli citizen Gedaliah Taub on Friday on suspicion of international human organ trafficking. Taub was detained at the Rome airport after officials determined his passport was forged.

Rome police told Maariv that Brazil had issued an international arrest warrant for Taub after he fled the South American country in 2009 during a leave from prison, where he was serving a nine-year sentence for organ trafficking.

Israelis fingered in Costa Rica organ trafficking ring

Investigators say doctors performed operations in both countries, patients paid up to $20,000 for kidneys

25 June 2013, 2:41 am

JERUSALEM (JTA) — An international organ trafficking ring that sold kidneys to patients in Israel and Eastern Europe was broken up by Costa Rica police and Interpol.

The ring also worked with Israeli doctors who have not yet been named, according to Haaretz. Israel’s Health Ministry denied any knowledge of the organ trafficking ring.

The Costa Rican Attorney General’s Office said last week that Israeli doctors had performed kidney-removal operations on some Costa Ricans who sold their organs, according to Haaretz.

Israeli behind organ trafficking ring is arrested

01/06/2018 January 6, 2018

Poor people from Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia and Turkey were paid thousands of euros for their kidneys. A prosecutor said they were left without proper medical care and were treated “like waste.”

Police in Cyprus have arrested an Israeli man described as the ringleader of a world-wide organ trafficking network that operated out of the tiny Balkan country of Kosovo several years ago.

Moshe Harel is accused of luring donors from eastern Europe, Turkey and the former Soviet Union to Kosovo, promising to pay them €12,000 ($14,500) for a kidney. He then allegedly charged people (most of them Israelis) in need of a kidney as much as €100,000 for the implant.

Israel harvested 18,000 organs from dead Syrians during the war

26 July 2017 – 18:25

Since the outbreak of war in 2012, 6.5 million people have been displaced within Syria and another 4.8 million have become refugees forced to flee to neighboring countries like Turkey and Lebanon or 10% have migrated to Europe. With another 386,000 estimated dead, that’s 11.7 million humans in Syria who have violently lost their lives or homes – stunningly over half the total prewar population of 22 million Syrians.

All this tragic human horror only occurs because of an overly aggressive, imperialistic US-Israeli foreign policy creating a path of chaos and destruction across the Middle East and North Africa secretly supporting the terrorists to fight US-Israeli proxy wars to illegally overthrow sovereign national governments like Assad’s.

The ruling elite behind the Greater Israel Project deploys US Empire to manufacture unlawful wars and the subsequent largest migration crisis since WWII to willfully and methodically destabilize the world generating such dire human living conditions that expedite formation of a one world government.

Ironically but also by criminal design, the two closest neighboring countries most powerful in the region that are most directly responsible for the terrorists and the MENA wars – Israel and Saudi Arabia – refuse to even take in a single refugee from the very same wars they both create and promote. Note that Israel, Saudi Arabia along with third wheel Turkey as part of the US Empire-led axis-of-evil, longtime regional ally and fellow NATO member Turkey received a $6.6 billion bribe from the bankrupted EU to “manage and control” the migration crisis, only to then turn around and unleash yet more waves of refugees pouring into Europe to this day. And it’s Turkey and Israel that both also play the most prominent role in the soaring organ trafficking epidemic as well. But more on that later.

Allegations of Organ Theft by Israel Add Insult to Injury in Gaza Middle East

By Politics Today

The allegations of organ theft by Israel have triggered international outcry, with human rights organizations and activists demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Local authorities in Gaza have accused Israel of stealing organs from the bodies of Palestinians, adding to the misery of Palestinians who are facing genocide there. In a strongly worded statement, the government media office in Gaza asserted that the examination of bodies revealed significant changes, pointing to the alleged theft of vital organs.

The statement particularly criticized what it deemed “the silent position of international organizations operating in Gaza,” including the International Committee of the Red Cross, regarding this alleged crime committed by the Israeli occupation.

The accusations come as Israel released the bodies of dozens of Palestinians killed during its ground operation. The bodies were received by the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza through the Kerem Shalom border crossing. According to Marwan Al Hams, the director of Mohammed Yousef El Najar Hospital in Rafah city, the bodies arrived in various conditions—some intact, others in pieces, and some decomposed.

The Gaza-based government media office claimed that the Israeli army handed over bodies without specifying from where they were seized. The statement further alleged that Israel repeated such acts during the ongoing genocide, even exhuming bodies from graveyards.

The allegations of organ theft have triggered international outcry, with human rights organizations and activists demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. The Euro-Med Monitor, a human rights group, had previously accused Israel of stealing bodies from Gaza’s medical facilities for potential illegal organ harvesting.

OPINION – Israel needs to face trial for organ trafficking: Claims and confessions

2015 report by European Parliament, Trafficking in Human Organs, listed Israel as one of the central countries involved in organ trafficking

Cagdas Yuksel | 27.09.2024 – Update : 22.11.2024

Israel’s ongoing wars to subjugate the Palestinians are often viewed through the lens of military operations, territorial disputes, and political deadlock. However, lurking behind these events may be a darker dimension where the vulnerable bodies of the oppressed are commodified for the organ trade industry.

Allegations that Israel has harvested organs from Palestinian detainees and victims of war for use in the international organ trade market or has become a hub for organ tourism have been long-standing. These claims are not limited to times of conflict but suggest that Palestinians’ bodies are commodified even in times of peace, adding a chilling and disturbing perspective to the ongoing human rights violations in the region.

(…)

The first significant emergence of organ trafficking accusations against Israel came during the First Palestinian Intifada in the late 1980s and early ‘90s. During this period, many Palestinian families claimed that the bodies of relatives who died in operations undertaken by Israeli forces were returned missing organs. Although initially dismissed as unfounded propaganda, the increase in similar reports strengthened speculation and concern. The case of young Palestinian Bilal Ahmed Ghanem, killed by Israeli soldiers in 1992, and a 2009 article in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet titled Our Sons’ Organs Were Stolen further highlighted these claims. The article included interviews with families who alleged that Israel had harvested organs from deceased Palestinians and suggested a broader organ trafficking network connected to Israeli medical institutions.

Israeli officials have previously admitted removing body parts from Palestinians and other groups. In a controversial 2014 Israeli television program, senior officials confessed to harvesting skin from deceased Palestinians and African workers, which was used to treat burns on Israeli soldiers. The director of the Israeli Skin Bank revealed that the country’s human skin reserves had reached 17 square meters (183 square feet), a significant amount for a small population, suggesting a more extensive organ collection practice. Israeli doctor and anthropologist Meira Weiss, in her book Over Their Dead Bodies (2002), provided details about the systematic harvesting of organs from Palestinians, which were used for medical research in Israeli universities and transplanted into Israeli patients.

report released by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor in October 2023 rekindled concerns over allegations of organ harvesting involving Palestinians, particularly in cases where bodies returned from Israeli custody showed signs of tampering. Gaza health officials have reported inconsistencies in the bodies released, pointing to organ removal. According to the report, Israeli forces collected dozens of Palestinian bodies from hospitals in northern Gaza, which were returned in a mutilated state. In July 2024, Israeli daily Haaretz reported that the Israeli military held the bodies of 1,500 Palestinians at the Sde Teiman detention center. All these allegations highlight the urgent need for a thorough investigation into the dignity of war dead and broader human rights violations.

(…)

Additionally, Israel has long been criticized as a destination for organ transplant tourism. A 2015 report by the European Parliament, Trafficking in Human Organs, listed Israel as one of the central countries involved in organ trafficking, describing it as an importer and consumer of organs. The same report noted Israel’s refusal to sign the 2008 Istanbul Declaration, which aimed to combat organ trafficking.
