This is a film about racism, sex, and murder. Joseph Paul Franklin killed more than 20 people between 1977 and 1980. His favorite target was "mixed-race couples," or, as he would say: "MRC's," but he also killed lone black men and Jews. He is the man who shot and paralysed Larry Flynt (because Hustler magazine ran an issue celebrating interracial sex). He also shot and wounded Bill Clinton's friend Vernon Jordan.
Immy Humes spent almost 30 hours talking to Franklin, on death row in Missouri. In these taped interviews, Franklin gave the filmmaker new insight, and new information about his crimes.

He was a sniper, who never stopped moving--he committed murders in at least twelve states, picking people off as they put groceries in the car, jogged in a park, or left a synagogue service. Since his arrest in 1980, Franklin has given detailed confessions--most of his crimes would otherwise have remained unsolved. He has been tried in several states and, in Missouri in 1997, he was sentenced to death.

The film retraces Franklin's path, from his abused childhood to his years as a rising member of the American Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan. In nine cities around the country, we visit crime scenes, families of his victims, detectives, and the murderer's own family. We come away with new psychological and social insights, seeing links between virulent racism, sexual anxiety and paranoia.

Franklin’s real name was James Clayton Vaughn. He was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1950, a poor white boy, with a violent mother and father. His sisters tell us he was always strange and angry, and became obsessed with Nazism while still in high school. We follow his restless career up and down the east coast, from a stint in the Alabama national guard to membership in white supremacist groups in Georgia and Washington, DC. In 1976, he changed his name to "Joseph Paul Franklin." He chose "Joseph" in honor of the Nazi Paul Joseph Goebbels, and "Franklin" for Ben Franklin.

Franklin’s violence escalated steadily and openly. He firebombed a synagogue, he threw mace at a racially-mixed couple. Then he set out on a 3-year trail of racist murder, supporting himself by robbing banks. He picked up prostitutes for company, and spoke them and others about his ideology. He says he was commanded by God to start a race war.

DR. DOROTHY LEWIS, a psychiatrist and well-known expert on killers, diagnosed Franklin as a paranoid schizophrenic, and insists he was incompetent to stand trial.

In Montgomery, Alabama, civil rights lawyer MORRIS DEES says the Klan and American Neo-Nazis share moral responsibility for Franklin's killings. Dees shows us The Hunter, a novel by the same man who wrote the Turner Diaries--the racist screed that inspired Timothy McVeigh to plant his bomb in Oklahoma City. The Hunter, written in 1989, boasts a chilling dedication to Franklin, "a devoted son of his race, who did what any white man should do, without regard for the personal consequences."

We get deeper into Franklin's insistence that he doesn't fit the now-established profile of a serial killer. Franklin says he is motivated by political conviction not sex or aggression; that he didn't touch his victims, doesn't fantasize about his killings, and never tortured animals as a child. One by one, his assertions are put into question, as telling clues leak out about his underlying sexual motives.

He's not really a serial killer. The true definition of a serial killer is one who commits 3 murders with a kind of cooling off period between each, and some type of sexual behavior in the murders. I think he would be better classified as a spree killer. Regardless, he is truly a white hero. Much moreso than Timothy McVeigh, who killed innocent white children.

Sorry you are wrong mate, its east to bug a mobile phone, in fact thats what a mobile phone A BUG. They can and do send a signal to your phone that will just activate your microphone and so they can listen to conversations that are going in the place to which you are.

So I was right to question all of this with the invention of camera phones. Basically it's like a portable webcam someone in the proper position could access. No wonder the cellphone companies are offering them free and pushing them so hard. I wonder if they make any extra money for distributing them to certain people?

I've been in the Murrah building, when I was a child no less. And I've visited the memorial countless times.

I don't think McVeigh knew about the kids.
