What causes a 31-year-old vet to die suddenly from “natural causes” that can’t be released while in protective custody?

I for one am not buying this story.

Ex-soldier convicted of racist killings dies

FAYETTEVILLE

A former paratrooper convicted of killing two black residents in what prosecutors said was a racist group's initiation rite has died at a federal prison hospital in Missouri.

James Burmeister, 31, of Thompson, Pa., died Wednesday morning at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Mo., said Keith Acree, a spokesman for the N.C. Department of Correction.

[color="red"]Acree said that Burmeister died of natural causes but said he couldn't elaborate because of federal privacy laws.

Although sentenced to life in Cumberland County Court, Burmeister was transferred in 1999 to the federal prison system to protect him from retaliation from other prisoners. Officials said that Burmeister's reputation as a racist made him a target.

Burmeister and two other soldiers involved with a white supremacist group were charged after Michael James and Jackie Burden were shot Dec. 7, 1995, in Fayetteville as part of a skinhead initiation.

Burmeister and Malcolm Wright of Louisville, Ky., both privates in the 82nd Airborne Division, were convicted of first-degree murder in 1997 and sentenced to life in prison.

A third soldier, Spc. Randy Lee Meadows of Mulkeytown, Ill., pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was sentenced to a prison term of 13 to 16 months. He was released because he had spent more than 17 months in jail awaiting trial.

District Attorney Ed Grannis of Cumberland County said that Burmeister's crime was "as despicable as any that we have ever handled."
