Orthodox Jewish Teens Charged In Hate Crime
Five Jewish teenagers are expected to appear in court Friday in connection with the beating of a Muslim man in Brooklyn.
The suspects were arrested Sunday after police say they shouted racial slurs before punching Shahid Amber with brass knuckles and breaking his nose outside an area Dunkin' Donuts.
According to a court document obtained by NY1, the teens also shouted "...terrorist mother-[expletive,] you [expletive] our country. Why are you here? Go back to your country and never [expletive] with the Jews."
The District Attorney classified the assault as a hate crime, and three of the five suspects are being tried as adults.
"The man was attacked by these people who identified him as a Muslim and claimed that was the reason they attacked him and that's of tremendous concern to us because he wasn't attacked just as an individual, but as a member of the Muslim community," said Joel Levy of the Anti-Defamation League.
The bullshits already getting deep.
"We have to send out a message cohesively that this, we are not going to tolerate," said Mohammad Razvi of the Council of People Organization.
"We have been building a coalition in this community since after 9/11 and prior to as well – we are all Brooklyn – and we have been able to meet with and work with different leaders in the community and make sure that this sort of stuff just doesn't hang," said Rabbi Bob Kaplan of Jewish Community Relations.
But, according to Ari Murkoff, who owns a nearby restaurant on Avenue A, this was not a hate crime and he said he did not hear any racial slurs.

“I saw a bunch of teenagers having an argument and one tried to have bravado and tried to call each other names and it escalated from names to hands,” said Murkoff. “This was definitely not racism; this was a bunch of wild teenagers.”
Razvi, on the other hand, said there are other witnesses who back up Amber’s account.
Amber was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is awaiting reconstructive surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Five Orthodox teens charged in bias attack

when he was allegedly attacked by gang of Orthodox Jewish teens because he is a Muslim.
Five Orthodox Jewish teens have been slammed with hate-crime charges in the brutal
beating of a Pakistani immigrant in Brooklyn.
[highlight]"They hit me in the face with brass knuckles four or five times while somebody held my hands,"[/highlight]
said the victim, Shahid Amber, 24, a gas station attendant. "Then they all beat and
kicked me. They were screaming 'Muslim m-f-r. You m-f-g Muslim terrorists. Go back to
your country.' "
Amber, who was eating ice cream outside a Midwood Dunkin' Donuts when the gang attacked
on Sunday, needed 15 stitches on his broken nose and reconstructive surgery.
Witnesses who called 911 said that [highlight]10-12 youths jumped him,[/highlight] a source said.
Amber said the attack began after one of the group asked if he were Muslim and he answered
yes. Amber's father, Umbar Islam, 56, described a brutal assault by [highlight]boys in long black jackets,
black pants and black hats.[/highlight]
"They punched and broke his nose. They ripped his jacket. He was covered in blood.
[highlight][color="Red"]They said, 'Jews rule this country!' " Islam said.[/highlight]

[highlight]Yitzi Horowitz, 15, David Brach, 15, Yossi Friedman, 17, Shulomi Bitton, 16, and Benjamin
Wasserman, 16, all of Borough Park,[/highlight] were charged with assault as a hate crime, gang assault,
menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon.
[highlight]Horowitz and Brach were freed on their own recognizance. The other three were ordered
to pay $5,000 cash bond and are due back in court today.[/highlight] [color="Blue"]($5000? Reverse the roles. $5000???)
Bitton's mother, Irit Bitton, said last night that her son was innocent.
"My son was just standing over there and he did not touch anybody," she said.
"He's a sensitive boy. He wouldn't even kill a fly. I believe my son 100%."
She also denied he was biased.

Amber, who has lived in the U.S. for seven years, said, "I respect all religions . . .
I love this country. It has given me everything. I would defend this country with my blood.
"These guys just break my heart."
