This is something I normally would've posted in "This Just In", but I think it goes way beyond "the news." It's one short, two-sentence paragraph from an AP article I read in my local fishwrap this morning regarding Mel Gibson's flick Apocalypto and I believe it speaks volumes. Whether or not the movie deserved any awards is besides the point -- it's the underlying, not-so-subtle message that interests me:
" 'Apocalypto' lost in all three categories in which it was nominated, all for technical achievements. Gibson, whose 'Braveheart' was the big winner at the 1995 Oscars, had been condemned by many in Hollywood for an anti-Semitic rant he made during his drunken-driving arrest last summer."
(It would appear as though ol' Mel needs to make an appointment with a rabbi at the Simon Wiesanthal Center, get down on his knees, kiss his royal highness's hand and beg forgiveness a'la Marlon Brando, eh? Either that or it's bye-bye career).
Wit' jews ya lose; wit' rope deah's hope.
