Hello,
So as some of you know, there's a big Supreme Court case up right now regarding affirmative action. Now I know that you folks are probably opposed to it, and frankly so am I. I think it's OK to show favor to kids REGARDLESS of race who grew up in tough or poor conditions and perservered but I don't think it's right to discriminiate against students based on race.
I guess I'm curious about whether you folks think that affirmative action will be killed by the court and what you think will happen as a result. I guess I see less blacks and Latino kids getting accepted in the short term, but I actually think it could be GOOD for our community in the long term, since black kids will be working harder to succeed. If they're just being carried along by the system, it doesn't do them or anyone else any good int he long run. I also think it's PSYCHOLOGICALLY important for black youths to know that their succeeding on their OWN and not because they're given special treatment. I know that I've felt that way in my life, even though I know at the end of things that I've got to where I am on my own intelligence and what not.
Also thought you folks my be interested in this HIDEOUS hook-nosed jew I saw last night on the Stephen Colbert show promoting affirmative action and diversity for the SAKE of diversity:
