Looking for any information from those who own or may have owned a BMW motorcycle such as reliability, cost to repair, etc. Specifically, the BMW K1200LT model.

If I bought one it would be used with at least 20,000 miles on it unless I came across someone needing to sell. Would like something I can get on and travel coast to coast without worry of breaking down. Think I've narrowed it down to this bike.

Thanks in advance.

BMW K1200LT

I've found a K1200RS like the one pictured below with very low miles and a price that's hard to beat, but I'm concerned about the seating position since this is more a sport cruiser than a touring bike. I'd be leaning more forward on it than the above LT model.

I owned a Honda 750 (four cylinder) in another lifetime that was a cafe style bike and didn't like the riding position. The below BMW isn't as extreme in its riding position as the Honda was, but would prefer to sit upright like the LT model would allow. However, the RS produces 130 horsepower and 85 ft-lbs of torque and will do close to 150mph if I ever needed that kind of speed. It also comes with hard touring cases that mount to sides behind the rider. Could also put a "trunk" on it.

Both bikes have ABS front and rear. When using the front brake it automatically engages the rear brake and visa versa. Wonderful German engineering.
