It is annoying. I have heard it mostly from dumbasses striving to sound uber-refined, along with "h'why" and "h'when". Such people tend to pronounce the "t" in "often" much too often too.

Remember when NPR story tellers and leftist youth in general started phrasing declarative sentences with an ascending Brit-like higher tone and a interrogatory sounding "statement"? Example: "I don't think most White people agree with racism at all." (All spoken with an ascending tonal and "stated" as if there were a question mark at the end of the sentence-- especial interrogatory verbal tonal ascension upon phrase "agree with racism at all?").

Well, this is very common now. They apparently think they are leading you to make "rational" conclusions which will agree with their pronouncements as they speak. It sounds quite stupid. They do it over and over.

Another funny is Yankee Jim's imitation of the omnipresent interviewed/activist nigger saying the "black ca-mune-i-ty"-- as if the ca-mune-i-ty is a swell place and by over enunciating the syllables it emphasizes or exoticizes the hood.

Back when I was in college, a zillion years ago, I found the airs they put on so ridiculous and so irritating I was at a loss for words. I just wanted to hit them. But ridicule would be much better. I can just see the act, limp wristed, pretend outrage, "this school is unnaturally h'white, and these h'white children won't be prepared for the real world unless they are in a classroom environment that reflects the makeup of America."

Leftists can dish it out, but they sure can't take it. I've seen that first hand. Post-college I started to figure out the weaknesses of these types, and I was half drunk at a house party in Boston once, and I said in a falsetto, "diversity is o-wer stwength" and a gangly multicultist from Ireland actually attacked me! I wrestled him to a headlock, laughing all the while, and his Italian (from Italy) friend who was a giant of a man picked me up by my armpits and separated me from him and ejected me from the party.

Leftist multicultist types live in an insular, protected world and actually have a lot of insecurity and aren't used to being ridiculed. I sure wish I was in an environment where I could ridicule them and get away with it. as it is, I don't see them at all. Mostly they are on college campuses or large law offices or government offices, protected and shielded by their position and the authorities that back them up. If someone were to ridicule them, the "boss men" would ban the ridiculer from the premises, or fire them from their position.

But the day may come when they are no longer so insulated from the real world. I'm interested to see how long they stand up for their beliefs out here in the real world.

No, I do not think you have got it wrong. I was rather expanding with more examples and depicting the kind of people that would talk like that. Something like: "I pronounce "h'white" with such disdain, so it ought to mean something bad, but look how beautifully I enunciate, therefore I am a much learned person and you must trust my judgements. I am an authority figure. H'what?"

Phonemes are not the physical segments themselves, but mental abstractions of them.

That raises a good point....we need to learn how to "counter" them using their own, pompous "logic" against them. You will know you scored a hit when they pinch their butt cheeks together and leave.

I think the "h" is due to an abundance of petrochemical calories, and in the leftist brain it causes this speech impediment. Once peak-oil is here we won't have to worry about this very important and widespread change in the way the English language is spoken.
