We are thinking of getting a watch dog for our family but not sure what breed to get. I would greatly appreciate suggestions.

Criteria:
- does not shed a lot
- good with children (including toddler and newborn baby)
- safe, loyal, and predictable
- will protect the humans from people and other dogs
- preferably low energy
- preferably very big

No pit bull, rottweiler, doberman, or german shepherd.
We are considering bullmastiff, dogue de bordeaux, and bloodhound.
I really don't like dogs that run around the house, jump up on people, beg at the table, etc. I don't like dogs that are always looking up at you and panting and such, or dogs that look silly. I like dogs that look serious and dignified, and are content to just hang out and lie down on the floor for most of the day.

I know a lot of the posters here are dog owners which is why I ask. Thanks so much for your time and advice
