Memphis police say they've made a big dent in the heroin trade after raiding an East Memphis neighborhood store.

Drug Response Teams searched El Jaliscience in the 4400 block of Mason Road Wednesday night. Inside, investigators say they seized more than 200 grams of marijuana, nearly 7 grams of cocaine, and close to 2 pounds of heroin.

"You've got to understand, this is a large quantity of heroin," explained Memphis police director Larry Godwin. "This is going to make a big difference in the community out there."

"What makes this particularly significant, was this was for the local Memphis market," added Andy Diamond, Resident Agent In Charge with the DEA. "This is a very, very large organization."

Godwin announced the arrests during a news conference Thursday, standing in front of more than 30 guns seized from inside the store, and owner, Edwin Mayorga's, home.

"If you can imagine, these weapons on our streets, every single day, this is what we're dealing with," said Godwin, setting down an AK47 seized in the raid.

Police also recovered more than $1400 cash, and $740 in counterfeit bills.

26-year-old Mayorga, the store's owner, and El Jaliscience employee, Iban Arcos, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
