The event in the Belgium capital on 29 November, which is to be attended by thousands Jews from around Europe and several members of the European Parliament, is organized by Roger Pinto, the chairman of the ‘International Committee for the Release of the Three Israeli Kidnapped Soldiers’.
The rally will take place in front of the EU Council and EU Commission buildings in Brussels.Brussels has been chosen by the organisers because the European Union institutions are headquartered in the city. “We want to draw the attention of the European authorities about the fate of the three soldiers,” an organizer told EJP. The humanitarian gathering will take place at the Schuman square, in front of the European Commission and the EU Council buildings.
Nothing has been heard of the whereabouts or condition of Goldwasser and Regev since they were kidnapped, as well as Gilad Shalit who was taken by Hamas close to the Gaza Strip in June.
The families of the three soldiers have been continuously campaigning for the world community to put pressure on Lebanon, Hezbollah and Hamas to free the soldiers. Goldwasser and Regev were both on reserve duty when they were captured in an incident which sparked off the 34-day conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The 21-year-old Shalit, who holds dual French and Israeli citizenship, was serving in an armoured unit as part of his national service when he was taken.
