Everybody Knows a Good Black, Brown or Jew

Consider: You're a U.S. soldier, overseas, in combat. Your commanding officer issues you an order: "Don't shoot all of the enemy soldiers that you encounter. Only shoot some of them, because not all of them are bad people."

How would you react to that order? I'm guessing that you'd think that your commanding officer had lost his mind. How would you differentiate between "good" and "bad" enemy soldiers? You could not.

Not long ago, someone (a woman) said to me, "it's not right for White people to dislike all Black people. Because some Black people are nice and are hard workers." No doubt, some are. But how are you going to "weed out" the good Blacks from the bad ones? Are you gonna track down every Black person in America (all 40 million of them) and interview them all, and check them all for police records [1], and give them all polygraph tests, and hope that the tests are accurate? That would be very impossible. Ditto all Jews. Ditto all Mexicans.

Logic dictates that you must treat "The Other" people as groups [2]. Collectively. Not as individuals. If 85% of them are trouble (e.g., Blacks) then you must treat them as a group: you must say: "collectively, they are a problem and they must be treated as such."

[1] a lack of a police record does not mean that a Black person is a good person per se, it may mean that he/she has been lucky in avoiding the police.

[2] "The Other" = Blacks, Browns, Jews, queers, etc. Anybody not a normal White male.
