Fort Bragg, North Carolina -- Two American soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg have been arrested and charged with stealing a 105mm howitzer -- an artillery piece -- which they intended to sell to a white organization to be used in an uprising against the US government.
According to news reports, Joffre “Trey” Cross and Jason Niewoit were arrested June 4th after they sold stolen body armor and drugs to an undercover FBI agent posing as a "neo-Nazi". During the subsquent investigation, it has been discovered that the two also stole an artilley piece and a humvee, which they had hoped to sell to anti-government groups in the US for use against American forces. The two may have also sold other weapons and pieces of military equipment, and an investigation is ongoing.The FBI launched the investigation after discovering Niewot's MySpace page, which indicated he was an active duty soldiers with ties to "white organizations."
No details of the white organizations involved have been released, though the two have been described as "Neo-Nazis".
According to his parents, Niewot had joined the Army to fight in Iraq, but had been denied deployment there because he suffered heatstroke during a twelve mile desert march. Since the denial of his deployment, he had become angry at the government and had openly spoken back to his NCOs and officers and spoken of his intent to sell weapons to American anti-government dissidents.
