FF13 Influenced by identity, terrorism and immigration

Despite being only 21 years old, the Final Fantasy Series has seen many transitions from 1987 to now, 2008.
Although each individual instalment has had a different storyline some common elements still transfer to the next title in the series. It’s no lie however that even these elements are susceptible to change and development.
Most people believe the main influences for change is Square Enix’s need for greater realism and deeper storylines. However the outside world plays its part too. Issues such as global warming and war have been transferred into Final Fantasy 7’s “Green Peace” group Avalanche, and Final Fantasy 12’s war torn continent.
Final Fantasy’s latest main title; 13 is no different. The running main theme in 13 is identity. From what we already know, the main antagonist, “Lightning”, will be suffering from some sort of memory loss and in turn she will be trying to discover her own identity, as the player behind the controller is discovering 13’s world. The two main parties on the game, “Pulse” & “Cocoon” too will have their own separate identities.
The problems bigger countries in the World suffer such as terrorism and immigration are also present in Final Fantasy 13’s world. The makers have already confirmed that “the infected”, those with a different identity, will be banished from “Cocoon” and start a new life in “Pulse”. The game apparently also opens up with “Pulse” terrorists committing a form of terrorism in “Cocoon”.
With three major issues already included in Final Fantasy 13, it brings the question what other problems in our world are going to influence Final Fantasy 13, and future Final Fantasy worlds.
