Directions for Live Audio Broadcast

Machine A:

Purpose: holds the skype conference call and plays songs when needed. All audio which is broadcast must originate on this machine.

Sound card in: show host's mic.
Sound card out: to Machine B

Machine B:

Purpose: hosts the Shoutcast DSP which broadcasts to the Linux Server.

Sound card in: from Machine A
Sound card out: to Machine C

Info for DSP:

Download DSP: http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml#plugdownload

Once DSP is installed on Machine B configure with this information

Output Tab:
address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
port: xxxx
pw: xxxxxxxxx

Encoder Tab:
set it to 24 kbps mono, MP3 Encoder

Sound card in: Machine A

Machine C:

Purpose: records broadcast. Use your favorite sound recording software. I use Wavepad.

Sound card in: from Machine B

Linux Server:

Linux Server Info:

IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
uid: xxxxxx
pw: xxxxxxx

Start the shoutcast deamon:

1) Log in to server

2) Change directory to:
> cd to_your_directory

3) ensure there is not another shoutcast instance running
> ps -ef | grep sc

if there is another instance of shoutcast running find the process ID (pid) and kill it with this command

> kill "number"

if that fails to kill the rogue process then add the optional "-9"

> kill -9 "number"

(omit quote marks)

4) start shoutcast daemon

> ./sc_serv

5) now start up shoutcast client on Machine B

6) host call on machie A

7) record show

Note: you'll need an ssh client to start up the shoutcast daemon. The best free one is here:

Note: if port number, SC daemon password, or IP address change you'll need to configure this file
