Don't forget that in Silicon Valley "diversity" is a convenient excuse for abuse of work visa programs to bring in foreigners to do IT work at much lower pay than Americans would be paid for the same tasks.

This is part of the backdrop for the Google story. The manifesto apparently doesn't address the visa issue directly, but that lurks in the background. Of course, the H-1B and L-1 visas are predominantly issued to "people of color". Then you have the gender-diversity issue as icing on the cake. At Google and the other companies in Silicon Valley, the majority of workers are either foreign men here on work visas or American women, with few American men of any color to be seen. If you're one of those few American men, you feel as if you have a big target on your back—and you do.
