I do not recall having any contact with this alleged N.A. member, and don't even recognize his name, but since I was the staff member in charge of recruiting and coordinating N.A. members, it wouldn't have been out of the ordinary for me to have exchanged e-mails with him. I exchanged dozens, even hundreds of e-mails a day with members at that time. That does NOT mean that I or anyone else in the N.A. had any knowledge of or approved of any of his actions, however.
Some people have suggested that I gave orders to him that he was following, and that was NOT the case. Noone in the N.A., past or even present, has ever encouraged or suggested that any of their members should do anything illegal, to the best of my knowledge. This is just another case of the government attempting to allege guilt by association. If the F.B.I. seriously believed for a second that I had ever told any member to do anything illegal, they would have already picked me up and I would be locked away, believe that. Especially since they apparently claim to have the e-mail exchanges between this person and myself. If they seriously believed that N.A. was responsible for his actions, they would have already come after them, too. The fact that they haven't done either proves that the government has to admit at least to themselves that he was acting alone and without anyone else's knowledge or approval.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE MEMBER MICHAEL E. SMITH SENTENCED TO 121 MONTHS FOR HATE CRIME
NASHVILLE -- Jim Vines, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, announced that Michael E. Smith, age 35, was sentenced today on federal gun and explosive charges. After a 3 day sentencing hearing, United States District Judge William J. Haynes sentenced Smith to a period of 5 years, the statutory maximum, for his possession of a semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm semi-automatic rifle in a school zone.
Smith was also sentenced to a consecutive period of 61 months for charges related to the possession, manufacture and transportation of 25 destructive devises, including refilled hand grenades and pipe bombs, all of which will be followed by an additional 3 years of supervised release.
"Nazis with bombs, hand grenades and military rifles need to be locked up. Tragedy was on Nashville's doorstep when Smith was stalking the children of Sherith Israel School while armed with an M-16. America has dealt with these craven cowards before..... Nashville will be much safer with Smith in Federal prison," said James Cavanaugh, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. (ATF).
"The FBI believes that this was a significant domestic terrorism investigation involving hate crime at its worse, and we are glad that the investigative and prosecutorial efforts led to a successful prosecution of this matter," said FBI Supervisory Special Agent Doug Riggin, Joint Terrorism Task Force.
United States Attorney Jim Vines applauded the efforts of all the agencies that worked diligently on this case.
Testimony at the hearing revealed that Smith had been a member of the National Alliance, Membership # A6376. The National Alliance, recognized as one of the largest and most active neo-Nazi/white supremacist organizations, was established in 1974 by Dr. William Pierce. The National Alliance handbook describes a white person as "any non-Jewish person of wholly European ancestry." The National Alliance advocates the overthrow of the U.S. Government and has been involved in a number of violent criminal acts.
FBI agent Stephen Dickey testified that his investigation had shown that when the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, occurred, Smith cheered. Smith's e-mails in December of 2001 revealed his hatred for the Jewish race, and included comments such as "If the Jews don't like what E.T. has to say, perhaps they should be stuffed head first into an oven - for real this time" and "I no longer feel like I belong to the cesspool of multi-cultural filth known as the 'United States.'" He also had email contact with Billy Roper in December of 2001. Roper was a ranking member of the National Alliance at that time.
On Friday, January 4, a citizen, who has been recognized by Attorney General John Ashcroft for his alert act of courage, reported to off-duty Nashville Metropolitan Police Department Officer Upchurch who then contacted on duty Officer T. Finchum, that he (the citizen) had observed a vehicle parked on the street in front of Sherith Israel School on West End Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee a few minutes earlier. The school was posted as "Gan Yeladim, the Abraham and Olga Heller Pre-School". Gan Yeladim means Garden of Children.

The subject in the vehicle was described as a well-dressed, white male wearing sunglasses and appearing to have an "M-16" rifle on his lap with the barrel pointed out of the driver's window toward the Sherith Israel Pre-School. Another witness had observed this vehicle at this same location for more than an hour. A check of the registration by police revealed the vehicle to be registered to Michael E. Smith, with an address at Knolls Place, Nashville, TN.
Metropolitan Police set up surveillance and located the vehicle. Detective Sgt. Steve Reed and Detective Robert Doak observed the vehicle, and the white male driving it, pull into Knolls Place, and then continue out of the area. When police attempted to stop the vehicle by activating blue lights and siren, the driver of the vehicle put a gun to his head, refused to yield to the officers, and continued to drive recklessly, at one point driving into oncoming traffic at the overpass at Old Hickory Boulevard and I-65 South. The vehicle was ultimately stopped in the parking lot of Big Lots at Highway 96, Franklin, Tennessee.
Smith exited the vehicle and was placed under arrest. Recovered from the vehicle were a loaded Colt AR-15 A-2 with attached scope and soft case, with 47 rounds of ammunition, a loaded 9 mm Glock Model 17 semiautomatic pistol with 27 rounds of armor-piercing ammunition, a pair of military marine style binoculars, Nikon Buckmaster laser range finder, ASP Baton, a sniper sand bag, 8 Rand McNally maps, and latex gloves. At the time of his arrest, Smith was wearing a Nylon Web shoulder holster. Smith did not have a permit for the firearms.
Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, FBI, ATF and U.S. Secret Service were all actively involved at this point in the investigation as part of a terrorism working group. A subsequent search of Smith's apartment at 451 Knolls Place, Nashville, TN, and another location he utilized revealed among other things a Maadi Griffin .50 caliber bolt action rifle, SigSauer P226 semiautomatic pistol, 25 improvised explosive devices (10 refilled hand grenades and 13 pipe bombs), thousands of rounds of ammunition, including armor piercing and tracer ammunition, M60 military fuse ignitor and an assortment of electric blasting caps and leg wires, numerous military training manuals involving explosives, sniper training and military tactics, books including "The Turner Diaries," "Hunter," "The Testing of Negro Intelligence," "Ambush at Ruby Ridge," "National Vanguard Notebook," "American Dissident Voices (speech excerpts from the president of the National Alliance)," "The Zionist Connection II," "Auschwitz," "American Terrorist," "Advanced Anarchist Arsenal" and "Anarchist Arsenal," "Acquiring New I.D.," "Chemistry of Powder and Explosives," "Improvised Munitions Black Book Volume III," and military sniper manuals. Also found were two Component High Explosive Mixtures, binary explosives 50 solid/50 liquid (which when mixed is the equivalent of 50 sticks of dynamite, two boxes military non-electric blasting caps and military time fuse, and MRE's (ready to eat meals).
An examination of Smith's computer and software by FBI Special Agent Adriaan Valk and forensic examiner John Kerley revealed teen-age pornography, white supremacist connections, a photograph of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, hate e-mails, and indications that a user of the computer had conducted searches regarding Jewish schools and synagogues in the Nashville and Atlanta areas. The computer revealed the name Buford Furrow in a word search. Buford Furrow is a neo-Nazi who on August 15, 1999, attacked the North Valley Jewish Community Center in California, shooting to death several Jewish Pre-school children with a 9 mm.
Smith advised law enforcement that he had buried explosives in Maury County, Tennessee. ATF Special Agent Wayne Kilday and FBI Agent Stephen Dickey, Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit, Nashville Metropolitan Police, and Maury County Sheriff's office went to the area to locate the explosives referred to by Smith. Agents Kilday and Dickey dug up by hand 8 buried ammunition cans. The cans contained 2 improvised explosive devices (refilled hand grenades with military safety fuse), 2 gym bags separately containing approximately 20 pounds of potassium perchlorate and 20 pounds of aluminum powder, 2080 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition, 44 rounds of 9mm ammunition, some appearing to be armor piercing, 20 military smoke grenades, military signal flares, 15 commercial and military blasting caps, 5 rolls of commercial and military time fuse, 19 empty M-16 magazines.
ATF Agent Kilday, THP Sgt. Ed Cherry and Trooper Craig Smith destroyed most of the ordnance located in Maury County, Tennessee, on site. Kilday testified that the 25 explosive devices were of a particularly volatile nature due to the type of homemade mixture of explosive found in them, which Smith admitted to creating himself from ingredients he had acquired and manuals he had on hand. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Hazardous Devices unit and ATF Explosive specialist were able to successfully render safe and destroy the 25 explosive devices during the week following Smith's arrest.
Smith provided information that led to the arrest and conviction of a white supremacist associate who was later identified by Smith as J.R. Spores. Spores has been arrested and convicted of possession of explosive devices and received a sentence of 24 months.
The case was investigated and prosecuted through the cooperative effort of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nashville Metropolitan Police Department with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, the Department of Defense, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Maury County Sheriff's office. Well, he fucked up just by joining the NA. That alone ruins any chance of lone wolfiness. I also do not understand the amount of weaponry he owned....when he only has two hands.
