Is this new format supposed to be an improvement?

Is it just me or was it easier to just click on the latest post in a thread to see what's been added to that thread? To navigate this little running thread box that pops up top now when I click on a new post is nightmarish, especially in a long thread. It's like going over your shoulder to scratch your ass to have to keep clicking on "More replies below current depth" only to be taken farther away from where you used to be able to go with just a simple click when searching for the latest posts in a thread. Some threads are so jumbled and out of chronological sequence that it's impossible to find the latest posts.

Is this some scheme to drive people away from the VNN forum, to get them to start checking out the new blog instead? It's more likely that this new deal will just drive people away altogether. I check the blog occasionally, but find VNNF more interesting. When I go online and want to check out VNNF I've found I can bypass the Main Page blog stuff altogether by clicking on an email that alerts me that I have a PM, then "New Posts." But this latest "improvement" has me muttering, "I've got better things to do than this." Am I alone? Is there something I'm missing here?

Don't know. Haven't run into that problem, at least not that I have noticed.
The blog is good, and so is the forum, each in their own way.
I mostly read the blog, and participate in the forum, but that's just me.

We installed an updated version of the VB software which is necessary to close hacker loopholes. Some features have changed, but I'm not sure the ones you're talking about. My preferences for showing new posts are pretty much the same: I got to "user CP" and there are all the threads in which I have posted, where someone else has replied.

Go to User CP - Edit Options and change display mode to "linear , oldest first".

Thanks, GB. That User CP feature is interesting. I went to the Edit Options thing and my display mode was set for "Linear, oldest first," like it has always been, a very orderly mode for navigating threads, yet what is being displayed after I leave User CP, even after making certain I was in "linear, oldest frist," is the damned "post tree" of the "Threaded Display" mode, which shows only one post at a time with endless "More replies below depth" crap. Unnavigable threads from hell, they are. So, it shows that I'm in "Linear, oldest first" in edit options, while I'm, in fact, in "Threaded Display." Any solution?
