I also use FreeBSD on a homemade PC, which is $1300 cheaper than and 5x as reliable as a comparable Mac. The Intel boards are MUCH more stable than any Mac I've ever used.

Have you ever used FreeBSD? It takes a little hacking, but it's cheap and rock solid. You learn a lot and it's fun to play with.

In my opinion Gentoo is better than FreeBSD. It's got better support forums and overall community, among other things. They are both quite similar though.

I have a Sotec laptop (what Averatec was before a namechange). It is a 12" screen and is exceptionally light and well made. I was thinking about an Apple 12" Powerbook, but when I found this laptop I was convinced I should get one considering the price and quality. The gookazoids refine Aryan inventions very well, and there's no reason to hold much hatred for them. End the hate - separate!

Anima has one riced out PC. Very funny. I agree with you that elegant simplicity and efficiency in design are best, never rice. Nikola Tesla was a shining example of this philosophy. His inventions were brilliant.

Dells are all about half-assed computers and cheap pricing, they are not about modern systems. computers and hardware double every 18 months you better have the best and most efficient system available if you are into modern software. avoid Dell. Best thing I recommend is know computer people and have them build you one if you are unable to do so yourself.

Try playing Battlefield 2 or Doom 3 at 1600x1200 on your 5700FX....

I already do on 1280 x 1024 my native 17" LCD resolution, without any problems in Linux.

Both on full effects. Doom3 is just slightly laggy, but it doesn't bother me since I'm not doing multi player, and it's barely noticeble to the point that I wouldn't even pay 30 dollars for an upgrade to get rid of it.
