Couric was born in Arlington, Virginia to Elinor Hene, a homemaker, and John Martin Couric Jr., a journalist at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the United Press in Washington. Couric's father was Episcopalian and her mother was Jewish;[1] her maternal grandparents, Berthold B. Hene and Clara L.
