One of the few things the State of Mississippi does well is produce some DAMN good looking women. No college experience is complete until you've strolled around the campus at Ole Miss. and seen just the unbelievable numbers of petite, cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed barbie dolls roaming around. Or done a tail-gate party at the Ole Miss. vs Miss. State football game and watched them go by.

So it is with some interest, until recently, that I followed the Miss Mississippi contest. It became clear a few years ago that we were on a quota system. Every third year or every other year, she had to be a sheboon or some kind of mystery meat. So I had just quit watching it and this years' pageant went by without me even noticing. But I guess this year was the white girls' year and we finally got one that I'm not ashamed of:

Miss. Anna Tadlock. Miss. Mississippi 2009

Last year was Mexican(?) Mexiphino(?) Filipexian(?) year: Christine Kozlowski

As non-white women go, she's certainly not the worst I've seen. But she doesn't hold a candle to Miss. Tadlock, above.

And God forbid, 2007:

What in the fuck is that? Does anybody who can see really believe this . . . . this . . . . THING this buscuit lipped, gorilla nostrilled Thing is the most beautiful woman this state can produce? How in hell are we going to attract any kind of high-paying industry here if we hold this thing out as the best that we can do?
