Mother, daughter give birth 13 hours apart

KINGSTON - Wednesday was a day of milestones for Donna Velano. First she gave birth to her second child. Then she became a grandmother.
Velano, 38, delivered Corbin John at 7:12 a.m. in Kingston Hospital. Less than 13 hours later, at 8:20 p.m., Velano's daughter, 16-year-old TaShena Velano, gave birth to Kaydin Alejandra in the same hospital. Both mothers said they were surprised they had their babies on the same day, even with their concurring pregnancies.
"Everybody said it, but we didn't think so," TaShena said.
"I was shocked," her mother said. "I thought one of us would go earlier."
TaShena said she was having mild contractions when her mother was giving birth to her new baby brother. But she stayed in the room to watch the delivery - which she said only served to make her nervous about her own impending delivery.
Unlike her mother, though, TaShena wound up having a C-section.
Both babies were whoppers. Corbin weighed in at 9 pounds, 11 ounces; Kaydin tipped the scales at 10 pounds even. Both babies were 22 inches long.
The two new moms have adjoining rooms at Kingston Hospital and have the same obstetrician, Dr. Dominique Delma. Their rooms at their Saugerties home adjoin, too. And TaShena's fiance, Alexander Rodriguez, Kaydin's father, also lives there...
